What's the green chip below the processor? Could this be a video chipset? Looks like the processor, but the processor has to be at the top of the image below the heatsink.
We bought some new PCs in my company with the new iCore 7 and 8GB memory and the following hard disk: WESTERN DIGITAL WD8000AARS 800GB CAVIAR GREEN SATA2
The problem we have is that after installing windows XP64 SP2 the write speed of the hard disk is extremely low!.
The windows system monitor shows that the Average Disk queue length is always at 100% and a winzip extract of 350mb takes about 8min.
Is there any idea on where to start looking for the cause of that?
Thanks
Hi
I'm writing code in Visual Studio but whenever I want to test the application and press the green arrow for "Start debugging", Visual Studio does not automatically recompile the active solution for me and I have to manually build the solution then debug it.
Visual Studio used to automatically build before debug and I want this back as contantly having to manually build is a serious pain.
Thanks
I've been trying to configure the above for two days i used ipkall at first and it registered with my sipdroid app because i got a green status light and whenever i make a call from sipdroid it will show it in the pbxes call log but the call drops asap..i downloaded sip2sip to get another number ive gotten the new number from sip2sip now i need to configure sip2sip with sipdroid and google voice...can someone please help me my e-mail is [email protected]
just got a new battery for my macbook pro...charged it for 2 days, battery icon has an x in the middle.also the charge never goes green, stays on orange...
Where are they? I've seen and used a few, but most of them either look awful or behave badly.
Are there any useful add-ons that you would recommend that work and integrate well into Windows Media Center?
Yes, I could go to the green button and sift through hundreds of add-ons. I'm looking for the cream of the crop.
Green initiatives are being pushed onto public organizations, but the price of print chargeback software I've found exceeds the annual expense of actually printing. Is there an open source tool to track and charge library patrons for printouts without breaking the bank?
I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) on a Windows Vista SP2 box. Every day in the 4 PM hour MSE updates itself: The green fortress icon in the notification area displays an animated download arrow, and my computer becomes unusably sluggish for five minutes (or more). I'm generally forced to take a coffee break or read a magazine.
How can I control the time of day when this update occurs? Sometime after 9 PM would be ideal.
Thanks.
I want to add a 1.5 - 2 TB hard drive to a Linux file and backup server we have in the office.
Will it make a difference if I'm using 5400 RPM vs a 7200 RPM hard drive? I was thinking about getting a Western Digital Green Drive or Samsung Ecogreen or similar.
I have an Amazon EC2 + SSL just installed on GoDaddy.
I have successfully managed to install it and get the green https on the main domain https://www.example.com
however it doesn't any https://www.example.com/something but the route works under http://www.example.com
I am using an .htacess file for some rewrite.
Options -MultiViews
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]
the Ec2 instance is ubuntu if that helps in anyway.
I'd like to make colour adjustments to an existing PDF file, the equivalent of Photoshop's adjustments, and save a new version with the altered colours.
I'm after more than a colourspace conversion. I'd like to take a file that's black and white, and convert it into green, blue, yellow, pink etc versions. It's upwards of 100 pages full of text and graphic elements, so doing it by hand isn't really an option.
Is there any way of achieving this?
My colleagues mark folders on mac server using their macs, and sometimes tell me i've marked those folders in green. I'm wondering if there's any mean to see what colours got assigned to what folders using PC. I'm connecting to the server using smb/ssh. Solution can be either windows or linux. Please not i'm not about to change those markings, neither looking for some robust solution, just quick hack.
Evan Anderson mentioned in another solution you could buy a LTO-4 (autoloader, 1 tape / day) - $4,566.00 (the discussion included total cost of tapes for a specific rotation.)
but I don't know specifics on what he or you would recommend for the actual drive and if necessary controller. Show me a newegg URL or CDW, Dell, or HP, or whatever your favorite vendor would be for your solution if you don't mind looking it up or just give me a brand and a model number and I'll be glad to do the leg work myself.
I currently have on have on hand an external LTO 3 drive that uses LVD SCSI interface (and thus have a controller card that has an external LVD SCSI connector). If that card isn't sufficient to interface to a LTO 4 drive let me know.
http://www.fujifilmusa.com/shared/bin/LTO_Overview.pdf shows minimum tape speeds for LTO4 and other LTO formats. It looks like the IBM LTO4 actually has a lower minimum speed than
the IBM LTO3. Either way my average server is too slow to feed LTO3/4 without shoeshining so I'm looking for a drive with a low minimum write speed. If you trust the PDF from 2008 that makes my choices
IBM LTO 4 full height
IBM LTO 4 half height
HP LTO 4 half height
but presumably there are other options out there that weren't mentioned in the fuji PDF.
Again I'm looking for a specific recommendation on a drive to buy (and the controller if needed).
I want to migrate a web application from a Windows Server 2003 to a Windows Server 2008 R2. All works fine except sending emails from the application.
If I configure the application to use the smtp server on "localhost" it works, but changing it to the "real" host name (e.g. mail.example.org) no mail is sent. The error message says, that the remote server needs a secure connection or smtp authentication. But since it works when using "localhost" instead of the host name I doubt that this is the problem.
Also it's unlikely a problem with the mail server, I also tried it with another one.
So for me it seems like the firewall is blocking the outgoing connection to the mail server. I tried to open port 25, but it still did not work. Maybe I just did it the wrong way.
Update:
For clarifying my setup:
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 with hMailServer installed (set up for some of the hosted domains)
For the website I'm talking about I need to use an external mail server (totally different hosting provider)
Apparently I was a bit off the track. It seems like it works when using connecting to the local mail server either with the host name "localhost" or "mail.somedomain.com" (while somedomain.com is set up in my mail server). But when using the host name of the external mail server ("mail.externaldomain.com") it seems like it tries to connect to the local server again, although this domain is not set up in the mail server. Thanks to Evan Anderson for the tip to use telnet - why I have not thought of it myself?... :-)
Note, the website www.externaldomain.com is hosted on my server but the DNS entries are maintained by the other hosting provider. "externaldomain.com" is the only entry which points to my server all other records (MX, subdomains) are pointing to the other server.
So I think the question is now, how do i bring my server to connect to the external mailserver. Do I have to configure this in my mail server or is it a windows server thing?
I have an HP Compaq 2510p laptop running ubuntu 12.04 LTS. ubuntu reports that wireless is disabled by means of a hardware switch. There is a 'soft-key' button on the laptop to control the physical wireless hardware but this does not respond. There is no other button, slider, (fn)+ combination to control the physical wireless hardware. There is no BIOS function to disable wireless (and on XP - previous OS - wireless functioned fine).
mike@ubuntu:~$ rfkill list all
0: brcmwl-0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: yes
1: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
Running rfkill unblock all doesn't change things and I can see no way to change use from 0: to 1: (if that's even possible - or desirable - in the first place).
I have checked for additional drivers and the Broadcom proprietary wireless driver is already installed and has a green light.
Essentially, I believe I need to make the HP 'soft-keys' work - or at least the wireless card toggle.
Advice gratefully received.
Cheers
M
I was at DevWeek last week, it was a great week and I got a chance to speak with some of my geek heroes (Jeff Richter is a walking, talking CLR). One of the folks I most enjoyed listening to was ThoughtWorker Neal Ford who gave a session on emergeant design in TDD. Something struck me about the RGR cycle in TDD in that design could either be missed or misplaced if the refactor phase is never carried out and after the inital green phase the design is considered done. In TDD the emergant design that evolves as part of the cycle is key to the approach. Neal talked about using cyclometric complexity as a measure of your emerging design but other considerations would surely include SOLID and DRY during the cycles. As you refactor to these kinds of design principles your design evolves.
The open-source Unit Test framework tSQLt is a great way of writing unit tests in the same language as the one being tested. In retrospect, after using tSQLt for a while, what are the 'gotchas'; those things that you'd have been better off knowing about before you get started? David Green lists a few tips he wished he'd read beforehand.

Earlier today Scott Guthrie announced the ASP.NET MVC 3 - Release Candidate 2. I installed the new version right after the announcement since I was eager to see the new features. Among other cool features included in this release candidate, there is a new ViewBag dynamic which can be used to pass data from Controllers to Views same as you use ViewData[] dictionary. What is great and nice about ViewBag (despite the name) is that its a dynamic type which means you can dynamically get/set values and add any number of additional fields without need of strongly-typed classes. In order to see the difference, please take a look at the following examples. Example - Using ViewData Controller public ActionResult Index() { List<string> colors = new List<string>(); colors.Add("red"); colors.Add("green"); colors.Add("blue"); ViewData["listColors"] = colors; ViewData["dateNow"] = DateTime. Now; ViewData["name"] = "Hajan"; ViewData["age"] = 25; return View(); } View (ASPX View Engine) <p> My name is <b><%: ViewData["name"] %></b>, <b><%: ViewData["age"] %></b> years old. <br /> I like the following colors: </p> <ul id="colors"> <% foreach (var color in ViewData["listColors"] as List<string>){ %> <li> <font color="<%: color %>"><%: color %></font> </li> <% } %> </ul> <p> <%: ViewData["dateNow"] %> </p> (I know the code might look cleaner with Razor View engine, but it doesn’t matter right? ;) ) Example - Using ViewBag Controller public ActionResult Index() { List<string> colors = new List<string>(); colors.Add("red"); colors.Add("green"); colors.Add("blue"); ViewBag.ListColors = colors; //colors is List ViewBag.DateNow = DateTime. Now; ViewBag.Name = "Hajan"; ViewBag.Age = 25; return View(); } You see the difference? View (ASPX View Engine) <p> My name is <b><%: ViewBag.Name %></b>, <b><%: ViewBag.Age %></b> years old. <br /> I like the following colors: </p> <ul id="colors"> <% foreach (var color in ViewBag.ListColors) { %> <li> <font color="<%: color %>"><%: color %></font> </li> <% } %> </ul> <p> <%: ViewBag.DateNow %> </p> In my example now I don’t need to cast ViewBag.ListColors as List<string> since ViewBag is dynamic type! On the other hand the ViewData[“key”] is object.I would like to note that if you use ViewData["ListColors"] = colors; in your Controller, you can retrieve it in the View by using ViewBag.ListColors. And the result in both cases is Hope you like it! Regards, Hajan
With the updates to Windows Azure CDN announced this week [1] I wanted to help illustrate the capability with a working sample that will serve up dynamic content from an ASP.NET site hosted in a WebRole. First, to get a good overview of the capability you can read the Overview of the Windows Azure CDN [2] content on MSDN. When you setup the ability to cache content from a hosted service, the requirement is to provide a path to your role’s DNS endpoint that ends in the path “/cdn”. Additionally, you then map CDN to that service. What WAZ CDN does, is allow you to then map that through the CDN to your host. The CDN will then make a request to your host on your client’s behalf. The requirement is still that your client, and any Url’s that are to be serviced through the CDN and this capability have to use the CDN DNS name and not your host – no different than what CDN does for Blog storage. The following 2 URL’s are samples of how the client needs to issue the requests. Windows Azure hosted service URL: http: //myHostedService.cloudapp.net/cdn/music.aspx - for regular “dynamic” content Windows Azure CDN URL: http: //<identifier>.vo.msecnd.net/music.aspx - for CDN “cachable” content. The first URL path’s the request direct to your host into the Azure datacenter. The 2nd URL paths the request through the CDN infrastructure, where CDN will make the determination to request the content on behalf of the client to the Azure datacenter and your host on the /cdn path. The big advantage here is you can apply logic to your content creation. What’s important is emitting the CDN friendly headers that allow CDN to request and re-request only when you designate based upon it’s rules of “staleness” as described in the overview page. With IIS7.5 there is an underlying issue when the Managed Module “OutputCache” is enabled that in order to emit a good header for your content, you’ll need to remove, and in my sample, helps provide CDN friendly headers. You get IIS 7.5 when running under OS Family “2” in your service configuration. By default, and when the OutputCache managed module is loaded, if you use the HttpResponse.CachePolicy to set the Http Headers for “max-age” when the HttpCacheability is “Public”, you will NOT get the “max-age” emitted as part of the “Cache-control:” header. Instead, the OutputCache module will remove “max-age” and just emit “public”. It works ok when Cacheability is set to “private”. To work around the issue and ensure your code as follows emits the full max-age along with the public option, you need to remove as follows: <system.webServer> <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true"> <remove name="OutputCache"/> </modules> </system.webServer> Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public);
Response.Cache.SetMaxAge(TimeSpan.FromMinutes(rv));
In the attached solution, the way I approached it was to have a VirtualApplication under the root site that has it’s own web.config - this VirtualApplication is the /cdn of the site and when deployed to Azure as a Web Role will surface as a distinct IIS Application – along with a separate AppDomain.
The CDN Sample is a simple Web Forms site that the /default landing page contains 3 IFrames to host:
1. Content direct from the host @ http://xxxx.cloudapp.net/cdn
2. Content via the CDN @ http://azxxx.vo.msecnd.net
3. Simple list of recent requests – showing where the request came from.
When you run the sample the first time you hit the page, both the Host and the CDN will cause 2 initial requests to hit the host. You won’t see the first requests in the list because of timing – but if you refresh, you’ll see that the list will show that you have 2 requests initially.
1. sourced direct from the Browser to the HOST
2. sourced via the CDN
The picture above shows the call-outs of each of those requests – green rows showing requests coming direct to the HOST, yellow showing the CDN request. The IP addresses of the green items are direct from the client, where the CDN is from the CDN data center.
As you refresh the page (hit Ctrl+F5 to force a full refresh and avoid “304 – not changed”) you’ll see that the request to the HOST get’s processed direct; but the request to the CDN endpoint is serviced direct from the CDN and doesn’t incur any additional request back to the HOST.
The following is the Headers from the CDN response
(Status-Line) HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Age 13
Cache-Control public, max-age=300
Connection keep-alive
Content-Length 6212
Content-Type image/jpeg; charset=utf-8

The following are the Headers from the HOST response
(Status-Line) HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Cache-Control public, max-age=300
Content-Length 6189
Content-Type image/jpeg; charset=utf-8

You can see that with the CDN request, the countdown (age) starts for aging the content.

There is a Bubble notification that appears in the notification area apart from the Mail Icon Message. I only want one notification icon telling me when a new message has arrived.
Right now as seen in the image:
I have the MAIL Icon (Which is White right now but turns blue when a new message arrives) and the First green icon, which is the bubbling talk icon that I want to remove.
When a message appears both of them tell me a new message has arrives. I only want the MAIL icon (The white one between the Keyboard and the Bluetooth Icon)

SCM coverage in early '10 was dominated by major product announcements.
The release of Oracle Global Trade Management and Oracle Transportation Management 6.1 garnered ten unique articles. SearchOracle.com and Supply Chain Management Review primarily focused on the compliance aspect of the announcement while Managing Automation concentrated on the new trade management capabilities. Elsewhere, there was a lot of interest around the new 'Green Dashboard' as reported by Modern Materials Handling, Environmental Leader and TMCnet. Other SCM news included the announced integration of Oracle Hyperion Planning and Demantra S&OP as reported by Database Trends and Applications and Treasury & Risk.
