  • How to disable Gnome-Shell auto-open in Dashboard

    I am personalising my Gnome-Shell in Ubuntu 11.10 I would like to disable the feature to open the Gnome's Dashboard when I close the last Window in a Workspace. Edit to clarify: The dashboard is available only in GNOME Shell. The dashboard opens if you press the windows key (aka SUPER) or if you move the mouse to the upper left corner. If you close the last window of a workspace, but there are open windows on other workspaces, the dashboard opens automatically. The latter behaviour is annoying if you do not want to use the dashboard to open new windows or to change workspace. There are many ways to to both (Gnome do, Docky, keyboard shortcuts, clicking on something on the desktop, ...). Edit: There is a related Q&A, which was closed because the asked the same question for Mint: How can I prevent the activity view for opening when I close the last running app?

    I was thinking about hosting my private project on my server (i may use 'gitolite') and have a copy on my local machine as backup (git clone then automated git fetch every few minute). I want to know what happens if there is a bug gitolite or somewhere else on my server and the source code and git repository has been tampered with? Will my backup also be corrupted? will i easily be able to revert the source using the history?

  • Auto mount USB drive with permissions for all users

    I have an Ubuntu 14.04 based Media Center and I store the media files on a USB HDD. I add files to drive directly on a Mac so I have it formatted as FAT32. The problem is that after reconnecting the drive to the Ubuntu, it mounts at /media/user/drivename and only the root user is allowed access. I need several applications to have full access to this drive. I can change file permissions in the terminal but it doesn't change because of the /media/user location. I am able to manually sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /media/drivename & sudo chmod 777 /media/drivename but the mount point changes each time. Is there a way to make this drive always mount where root and other applications have access?

    I'm currently writing some tests so that I may improve my skills with the Internet interaction through Windows Forms. One of those tests is to find a postal code which should be returned by Canada Post website. My default URL setting is set to: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/fpc/personal/findByCity?execution=e4s1 The required form fields are: streetNumber, streetName, city, province The contentType is "application/x-www-form-enclosed" EDIT: Please consider the value "application/x-www-form-encoded" instead of point 3 value as the contentType. (Thanks EricLaw-MSFT!) The result I get is not the result expected. I get the HTML source code of the page where I could manually enter the information to find the postal code, but not the HTML source code with the found postal code. Any idea of what I'm doing wrong? Shall I consider going the XML way? Is it first of all possible to search on Canada Post anonymously? The color for each series in the stack is different and am setting that in the 'fill' property of the two series. My doubt is how can i get the color specified in the fill property of the column series from the item renderer. if this works then i can very well use the same renderer for both series.     I am searching for an algorithm to fill several slots, which are already filled to some level. The current levels and the available quantity to fill are known Resulting levels should be as equal as possible, but existing level cannot be reduced Slots are filled from left to right, so left slots get higher level if equal level is impossible       The image above shows six examples, each column represents a slot. The grey area is already filled, the blue are is the expected position of the new elements. I could iterate through my slots and increase the quantity on the lowest slot by 1 until the available quantity is consumed, but I wonder about how to actually calculate the new filling levels. I am going to implement this with SQL/PL/SQL, other code is just as welcome though :)

    I have to create a colored button with gradient fill(starting from the middle of the button along Y axis). If I set the background property of the button to the color I want, I lose the rounded look and feel of a button and also the gradient fill(It looks like a TextView with a background). Also, I want this color to change when the user depresses the button. Can i specify this via selector XMLs(Color State Lists)? Any tutorials or links that can help me here is appreciated. Thanks.

    I'm trying to go through the code of TCPDF to understand how it calculates the height of the text to be rendered, but it's too much for me to handle without asking. What I want to know: in the PDF from example 5 http://www.tcpdf.org/examples/example_005.pdf it gives the cell a yellow background. I'm guessing that at the basic level, it first draws a box with this fill color, then adds the text, so what method is it calling to get the height of the text to know the height of the box to fill? Anyone knows how to trace this, because doing it by hand and looking through the code isn't working at all for me.

    I put a TileGroup in a BorderContainer and set the width to 100%, but the content in the TileGroup did not fill the parent container, it leaves a big chunk of blank on the right part.     I'm interested in building a heatmap with geom_tile in ggplot2 that uses a different gradient high color based on a factor. The plot below creates the plot where the individual tiles are colored blue or red based on the xy_type, but there is no gradient. ggplot() + geom_tile(data=mydata, aes(x=factor(myx), y=myy, fill=factor(xy_type))) + scale_fill_manual(values=c("blue", "red")) The plot below does not use the xy_type factor to choose the color, but I get a single group gradient based on the xy_avg_value. ggplot() + geom_tile(data=mydata, aes(x=factor(myx), y=myy, fill=xy_avg_value)) Is there a technique to blend these two plots? I can use a facet_grid(xy_type ~ .) to create separate plots of this data, with the gradient. As this is ultimately going to be a map (x~y coordinates), I'd like to find a way to display the different gradient together in a single geom_tile map.

    I love applications that are able to update themselves without any effort from the user (think: Sparkle framework for Mac). Is there any code/library I can leverage to do this in a Qt app, without having to worry about the OS details? At least for Windows/Mac/user-owned-linux-binaries. I could integrate Sparkle on the Mac version, code something for the linux case (only for a standalone, user-owned binary; I won't mess with distros packaging, if my program is ever packaged), and find someone to help me on the Windows side, but that's horribly painful. Surely I'm not the only one who wants to provide this to users?

  • Stretch image to fill div, but not skew

    I'm trying to make an image stretch to fit inside a div. However I want it to overflow so that the entire div is filled. The div resizes with the page. I want an effect similar to the jQuery bgstretcher plugin (http://www.ajaxblender.com/bgstretcher-2-jquery-stretch-background-plugin-updated.html) , but I cannot use that plugin because I'm already using it for the background image on the page, and it seems to not work when you try and activate multiple instances of it. So what I'm asking is for some sort of simple jQuery function that resizes an image to completely fill a div with overflow hidden, so that there are no gaps, but without skewing the image. Edit: http://jsfiddle.net/R7UCZ/ That's sort of what I'm after, but I want the image to fill the entire div without skewing. If the image goes out of the div a bit, that's fine, but I need it to resize with the div, which resizes with the page, both height and width.

  • ssh over a tunnel in order to configure auto login

    I m trying to copy the id_rsa.pub key to the server. The server in my case also has a virutal machine called dev which runs on the host machine. I copied the id_rsa.pub key to the host for auto log in using this command. ssh-copy-id -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub vickey@host which worked fine and I can auto log in to host. I also wanted to auto log in to the dev machine. I know I can just copy the contents of authorized_keys from the host machine to the dev machine but I m looking for a command line of doing things. Creating a tunnel seemed like the solution ssh vickey@host -L 2000:dev:22 -N now when I tried ssh-copy-id -i ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub vickey@localhost -P 2000 the password that worked here was of my local machine , I expected it to ask me password of my dev machine. The above command adds the pub key to the local machine and not to the dev machine. However this commands asks me for the dev password and copies the files. scp -P 2000 vickey@localhost:/home/vickey/trash/vim . vickey@localhost's password: vim 100% 111 0.1KB/s 00:00 How do I do the same with ssh-copy-id ?
