I have gotten suggestions from people stating that I should perform logging using handlers in the application and use a "logger" object for logging from the API. • Can anyone tell me what the authors mean on this line?

  i was going through this link: FAT16 Basics to Assemble Clusters. I have read the structures involved in defining a directory entry in FAT. Now when giving the example for a FAT16 File, it says the data cluster is 0x03 for the example file MyFile.txt. Which means if we logically compute the Data Cluster we will be able to reach to the first node which happens to be cluster no 3. But what I fail to understand is what the author is trying to say in the next line where it says What we can see in the File Allocation Table at this moment? How suddenly we reach to the File Allocation Table? Weren't we already there when we were going through the information of Myfile.txt? I couldn't find any reason how suddenly the author jumped to an offset location of 00000200 and is identifying the emptiness of the clusters. It will be great if someone can help me understand.   I am used to writing C# Windows application. However I have some free hosted PHP web space that I would like to make use of. I have a basic understanding of PHP but have never used it's object oriented capabilities. Is there an easy way to convert C# classes to PHP classes or is it just not possible to write a fully object oriented application in PHP? Update: There are no reliance on the .NET framework beyond the basics. The main aim would be to restructure the class properties, variable enums, etc. The PHP will be hosted on a Linux server.

  Well here goes a sligtly arwkward question, I have changed job roles from Network Admin to SQL Server DBA thus having to learn SQL server 2005. I am quite self motivated and have learned the basics of Transac and a little about Reporting services. The only thing is I need to set senarios as theres not much coming in at work in the way of SQL tasks. I have always kept my interest in networking by setting little "Hacking tasks", I have has a look at some crackme's but can find nothing to play with. I understand the SQL injection is some sort of SQL hack but found not much on the subject.   This is me going right back to basics with TDD for learning purposes. I originally implemented Person.Surname as field of type object (the simplest possible way of passing the test. I then added a test setting Person.Surname stating that the return value should be a string and set Person.Surname=20. I 'fixed' the test by changing the implementation to use string rather than object. The test now long compiles due to static type checking, so I commented it out. So I'm left with no way of leaving my intention in the test. Is there a way of having a failing test in this circumstance?

• How to determine which side of a 3D plane is showing?

  This is a 3d n00b question. I'm working on a WPF control which implements the basics of Silverlight's PerspectiveTransform feature, allowing a 2D plane to be rotated on any of the three axes. It works pretty well. However I'm a little stuck on the math required to determine whether or not the back of the plane is showing. My naive code for figuring that out now is: bool isBackShowing = Math.Abs(RotationX) > 90 && Math.Abs(RotationY) < 90; if (!isBackShowing) { isBackShowing = Math.Abs(RotationX) < 90 && Math.Abs(RotationY) > 90; } However, this fails when the rotation is between +-270 and +-360 on either axis. The underlying transform is using a Quaternion object to do the actual rotation, and that has nice Axis and Angle properties, so I'm guessing I could just use that if I knew how.

  We're in the early design/prep phases of transferring/updating a rather large "legacy" 3 tier client-server app to a new version. We’re looking at doing WPF over Winforms as it appears to be the direction Microsoft is pushing development of the future and we’d like the maximize the life cycle/span of the apps. That said during the rewrite we’d like to make as many changes to our data access/presentation model to improve performance as much as possible up front as many. I’ve been doing some research along that vein but the vast majority of the resources I've found that discuss WPF focus only simple data tracking apps or focus on the very basics UI design/controls. The few items that even discuss data presentation are fairly elementary in depth. Are there any books/articles/recommended reading/other resources recommended for development related to large enterprise level business apps? Any “gotchas” that should/could be avoided?   The difference between connection and read timeout, is that read specifies how long the data connection can be open until it automatically closesc, correct? A connection timeout specifies how long the socket should wait until a connection is established, correct? So if a connection timeout is set to "infinity" what does that really mean? Will it try to establish a connection and if no response is given (as on packets are lost? or port is down?) it will just idle? or will Could someone please explain the basics of network/socket timeouts? and in what situation can a client socket wait infinity?

• When to alter a function vs when to just write a new one...?

  /is n00b Through the gift of knowledge and expertise encoded here, I am doing my best to avoid n00b mistakes as I learn the basics of programming. I use functions when I (think I) can in PHP, and keep them somewhat sorted in different includes. The n00b problem I'm running into now is situations where perhaps 4/5th of an existing function is relevant to a new need. Maybe there are a slightly different set of inputs, or an additional calculation or two in the series, or output needs a different format/structure... but the core of the function is still applicable. Is there a good rule of thumb regarding when one should bolt-on crap to an original function and when one should (literally) copy & paste most of it into a new function and tweak to fit the situation? On the one hand I feel bad duping code, on the other I feel bad cluttering up an existing function with stuff not always needed...

  So - Android is build on top of a stripped down linux system. Most of the convenient utilities are missing but all the basics are there. I can call insmod and rmmod. No problem. But where do kernel-modules and firmware files reside? I can't find any. there is no /lib/modules in the standard distribution. Problem: I need modules. For sure don't want to compile support for each and every usb-device in the world into the linux-kernel. Where should I put them?

  I'm a C++ Programmer trying to teach myself Haskell and it's proving to be challenging grasping the basics of using functions as a type of loop. I have a large number, 50!, and I need to add the sum of its digits. It's a relatively easy loop in C++ but I want to learn how to do it in Haskell. I've read some introductory guides and am able to get 50! with sum50fac.hs:: fac 0 = 1 fac n = n * fac n - 1 x = fac 50 main = print x Unfortunately at this point I'm not entirely sure how to approach the problem. Is it possible to write a function that adds (mod) x 10 to a value and then calls the same function again on x / 10 until x / 10 is less than 10? • DDE Server Windows:orcascr9.exe: Application Error

  Hello I've looked at the queries on SO that pertain to similar errors - but haven't found anything so far, to help with this particular problem I am having with an orcascript which I am running under Powerbuilder9.0. The orca script connects to an SCC service provider, does a full target refresh, and then is supposed to build the exe. It never gets to the last step though. The log is not very informative and simply says this at the point of failure: PBORCA_SccRefreshTarget. Full Rebuild Calling cm_rebuild_application(CM_REBUILD_FULL) While the script is at some way into this above step, it exits and throws up the DDE server error. Can someone help me figure this one out? I just barely know the basics of PB, and the intent of this exercise is to convert an IDE-based build that I inherited, into an orcascript build so that i can run the build unmonitored.
