• Install 32-bit gstreamer plugins on 64-bit

  I am trying to install the 32-bit gstreamer plugins on my 64-bit system (Ubuntu 12.10 based). I can install the packages gstreamer0.10-plugins-base:i386 and gstreamer0.10-plugins-good:i386. However, gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad:i386, gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse:i386 and gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly:i386 conflict with 64-bit packages already installed on my system: $ sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad:i386 Reading package lists... • would a composite design pattern be useful for group membership?

  I'm trying to think about the best way to handle group memberships on a website. People sign up and select checkboxes in a list of interests. Every week we send out interest-themed emails to those members that indicated that interest. however i store the information in the database, while i am working with the lists and generating lists of email addresses or manipulating group memberships, the composite design pattern looked interesting. it would be easy to populate the group, then do some aggregating functions that say... generate the list of email addresses based on the interests. but i'm not sure i'm seeing any other advantages. i do need something scalable, and flexible. thoughts?

  The old-releases.ubuntu.com mirror hosts the repositories for EOL Ubuntu releases. The main page currently lists up to 11.10 (or 12.04.3 if you count point upgrades), but the dists page lists up to 13.04. Why the discrepancy? When will the main page be updated? When will the newest EOL release (13.10) be shifted here? I'd like documentation backing up answers, please. • Ubuntu - Psychonauts - Camera involentarily listing to the right

  I've recently purchased the Humble Bundle V and have been having an absolute riot with the games given. The one problem I'm running into though, is that whenever I launch Psychonauts and run a game, the Camera lists to the right slowly and I can't get it to stop. Strangely enough when I zoom in (with z), it lists to the left. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there was a solution. Maybe it's even the mouse configs I currently have on the laptop that interacts strangely with 3D environments.

Based on the relation above on selecting element a from List1, List2 shows g,h. On selecting h from List2, in List1 c,d are shown in List1. On selecting d from List1 it shows i,j in List2.   I keep lots of notes as I work - code snippets, TODO lists, account details, links, comments. I currently use plain text files for this - very simple and robust but a bit last-century. I would like features similar to HTML - e.g. to embed pictures, formatting, and crucially hyperlinks within my notes. One particular use-case is an implementation of Getting Things Done - more or less, a collection of hierarchical TODO lists, which I'd implement with hyperlinks between tasks. Most WYSIWYG HTML editors seem to be aimed at web designers, creating beautiful pages for professional websites. Is there a simple tool / editor more appropriate for how I want to use it? (or advice from anyone doing the same)

• Software Center crashes and terminal errors

  *note*I'm a new user to Ask Ubuntu and I've only recently switched to Ubuntu 12.04. When I try to open the software center (Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit) it will flash open, load for maybe 1-2 seconds, and then close. When i try using: sudo apt-get purge software center sudo apt-get install sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade I get this within the terminal: Reading package lists... Error! • Gmail.com detect mail as spam, but the server is not on any BlackList

  I have an issue with Google. (GMail to be exact) About 1 month ago, we had a security breach, and mail was relayed through our servers. we got listed in almost ALL Black-Lists :( we fixed the problem, and requested removal from Black-lists, which was granted easily. currently (over 3 weeks), we are not sending any spam anymore. furthermore, we got clear from all the Black-lists (MxToolBox Black-List Search Result) But, GMail still refuse to get Anything from the server, stating '550 Spam'. • 'Bug in Mailman version 2.1.12'

  I'm working on setting up a server running Plesk 10.4.4 Update #13 on Centos 6.2. I've configured Mailman and now I want to set up some mailing lists. I've created a list in the Plesk control panel, but when I try to administer the new list (by visiting http://lists.[domain].com/mailman/admin/[listname] I see the following error: Bug in Mailman version 2.1.12 We're sorry, we hit a bug! Please inform the webmaster for this site of this problem. Printing of traceback and other system information has been explicitly inhibited, but the webmaster can find this information in the Mailman error logs. I see exactly the same error if I try to go to the list info page at http://lists.[domain].com/mailman/listinfo/[listname]. I would follow the instructions and look in the error logs, but I can't find them. I would expect to find a file at /var/log/mailman/error, but there's nothing there. My test list seems to work correctly. It sends all the expected email. It's just the web pages for the list that seem to be broken. Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions for tracking down and fixing the problem? p.s. I think I've chosen the correct Stack Exchange site, but it this question would be better asked elsewhere, please let me know. Update: I got to the bottom of this, so I'm documenting the answer in case anyone else has the same problem. The fact that I couldn't find the error log was the clue. The problem was that the Mailman process didn't have permissions to create an error log. And it seems that if Mailman can't create an error log then it will respond to any web request with this error page. Creating an error log file (in /var/log/mailman/error) and giving it the correct permissions fixed the problem.

• Cisco access-list confusion

  I'm having troubles implementing access-lists on my asa 5510 (8.2) in a way that makes sense for me. I have one access-list for every interface i have on the device. The access-lists are added to the interface via the access-group command. let's say I have these access-lists access-group WAN_access_in in interface WAN access-group INTERNAL_access_in in interface INTERNAL access-group Production_access_in in interface PRODUCTION WAN has security level 0, Internal Security level 100, Production has security level 50. What i want to do is have an easy way to poke holes from Production to Internal. This seams to be pretty easy, but then the whole notion of security levels doesn't seam to matter any more. I then can't exit out the WAN interface. I would need to add an ANY ANY access-list, which in turn opens access completely for the INTERNAL net. I could solve this by issuing explicit DENY ACEs for my internal net, but that sounds like quite the hassle. How is this done in practice? In iptables i would use a logic of something like this. If source equals production-subnet and outgoing interface equals WAN. ACCEPT.

• Using Openfire for distributed XMPP-based video-chat

  I have been tasked with setting up a distributed video-chat system built on XMPP. Currently my setup looks like this: Openfire (XMPP server) + JingleNodes plugin for video chat OpenLDAP (LDAP server) for storing user information and allowing directory queries Kerberos server for authentication and passwords In testing with one set of machines (i.e. only three), everything works as expected: I can log in to Openfire and it looks up the user information in the OpenLDAP database, which in turn authenticates my user with Kerberos. Now, I want to have several clusters, so that there is a cluster on each continent. A typical cluster will probably contain 2-5 servers. Users logging in will be directed to the closest cluster based on geographical location. Something that concerns me particularly is the dynamic maintenance of contact lists. If a user is using a machine in Asia, for example, how would contact lists be updated around the world to reflect the current server he is using? How would that work with LDAP? Specific questions: How do I direct users based on geographical location? What is the best architecture for a cluster? -- would all traffic need to come into a load-balancer on each one, for example? How do I manage the update of contact lists across all these servers? In general, how do I go about setting this up? What are the pitfalls in doing this? I am inexperienced in this area, so any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.

• GridView doesn't remember state between postbacks

  Hi, I have a simple ASP page with databound grid (bound to an object source). The grid is within the page of a wizard and has a 'select' checkbox for each row. In one stage of the wizard, I bind the GridView: protected void Wizard1_NextButtonClick(object sender, WizardNavigationEventArgs e) { ... // Bind and display matches GridViewMatches.EnableViewState = true; GridViewMatches.DataSource = getEmailRecipients(); GridViewMatches.DataBind(); And when the finish button is clicked, I iterate through the rows and check what's selected: protected void Wizard1_FinishButtonClick(object sender, WizardNavigationEventArgs e) { // Set the selected values, depending on the checkboxes on the grid. foreach (GridViewRow gr in GridViewMatches.Rows) { Int32 personID = Convert.ToInt32(gr.Cells[0].Text); CheckBox selected = (CheckBox) gr.Cells[1].FindControl("CheckBoxSelectedToSend"); But at this stage GridViewMatches.Rows.Count = 0! I don't re-bind the grid, I shouldn't need to, right? I expect the view-state to maintain the state. (Also, if I do rebind the grid, my selection checkboxes will be cleared) NB: This page also dynamically adds user controls in OnInit method. I have heard that it might mess with the view state, but as far as I can tell, I am doing it correctly and the viewstate for those added controls seems to work (values are persisted between postbacks) Thanks a lot in advance for any help! I wondered if the asp engine was databinding the grid during the page lifecycle to a datasource that was not yet defined. (In a test page, the GridView is 'automatically' databound'. I don't want the grid to re-bound I just want the values from the viewstate from the previous post! Also, I have this in the asp header: ViewStateEncryptionMode="Never" - this was to resolve an occasional 'Invalid Viewstate Validation MAC' message Thanks again Ryan

• asp.net 4.0 webforms - how to keep ContentPlaceHolder1_ out of client id's in a simple way?

  I'm attempting to introduce master pages to an existing webforms site that's avoided using them because of client id mangling in the past (and me not wanting to deal with the mangling and doing <% foo.ClientID % everywhere :) GOAL: use 'static' id values (whatever is in the server control's id attribute) except for data-bound / repeating controls which would break for those cases and therefore need suffixes or whatever to differentiate (basically, Predictable) Now that the site migrated to ASP.NET 4.0, I first attempted to use ClientIDMode of Static (in the web.config) but that broke too many places doing repeating controls (checkboxes inside gridviews, for instance) since they all resulted with the same id. So, I then tried Predictable (again, just in the web.config) so that the repeating controls wouldn't have conflicting id's, and it works well except that the master page content placeholder (which is indeed a naming container) is still reflecting in the resulting client id's (for instance, ContentPlaceHolder1_someCheckbox). Certainly I could leave the web.config setting as static and then go through all the databound/repeating controls switch them to Predictable, but I'm hoping there's some easier/simpler way to get that effect without having to scatter ClientIDMode attributes in those N number of places (or extend all those databound controls with my own usercontrol that just sets clientidmode, or whatever). I even thought of leaving web.config set to static and doing a master or basepage handler (preinit? not sure if that would work or not) that would go walk Controls with OfType<INamingContainer() (might be a better choice on the type, but that seems like a good starting choice looking at repeater and gridview) and then set those to Predictable so I'd get static for all my 'normal' things outside of repeating controls but not have to deal with static inside things like gridview/repeater/etc. I don't see any way to mark the content placeholder such that it 'opts out' of being included in child id's - setting the ID of the placeholder to empty/blank doesn't work as it's a required attribute :) At that point I figured there was a better/simpler way that I was missing and decided to ask on SO :) Edit: I thought about changing all my 'fetch by id' jquery calls from $('#foo') to fetch_by_id('foo') and then having that function return the 'right one' by checking $('#foo').length and then $('#ContentPlaceHolder1_foo').length (and maybe other patterns) or even just have it return $('#foo, #ContentPlaceHolder1_foo') (again, potentially other patterns) but changing all the places I fetch elements by id seemed pretty ugly too, and I'd like to avoid that abstraction layer if possible to do so easily :)

• Why might a silverlight ListBox on Windows Phone not allow me scroll all the way down to the bottom?

  I have a ListBox in a grid that gets databound when the page loads... pretty straightforward. The problem I'm having is that, after the box is databound, I can scroll... but not all the way to the bottom of the list. It stops an item or two short and won't let me scroll anymore. Here's the listbox XAML: <Grid x:Name="ContentGrid" Grid.Row="2"> <ListBox x:Name="lbFeed" ItemsSource="{Binding Items}" SelectionChanged="lbFeed_SelectionChanged" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="480"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Key="MyDataTemplate"> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" Width="430"> <TextBlock Text="Some text" TextAlignment="Center" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </Grid> I can post more code, but I'm still getting my feet wet in XAML and I'm not sure what might be causing this. • Details View and integration with TinyMCE <%@ Page validateRequest="false" %>

  I use TinyMCE in a DetailView in in EDIT MODE. I would like to know if there is a solution which can prevent Request Validation to trigger an error WITHOUT USING <%@ Page validateRequest="false" %> for my page. The only way I found out at the moment is to encode TextBox used by TinyMCE using option: "xml" tinyMCE.init({ encoding: "xml", In this way Request Validation does not trigger error but at the time to read the data in the TextBox the result it is Encoded. I also tried to Decode on PageLoad the content of the TextBox using this code myTextBox.Text = HttpUtility.HtmlDecode(myTextBox.Text) But the result is not as expected, so I can visualize it just Encoded text. Any Ideas? Thanks UPDATE I found a solution to my problem. I added in _DataBound event for the DetailsView this code TextBox myContentAuthor = (TextBox)uxAuthorListDetailsView.FindControl("uxContentAuthorInput"); myContentAuthor.Text = HttpUtility.HtmlDecode(myContentAuthor.Text); So on DataBound event, (should work even on post back) the content will be decodene for textbox tinymce. Here how should work: 01 - TinyMCE ESCAPE data inserted in textbox using function encoding: "xml", 02 - Data has been stored as ESCAPED 03 - To read the data and add its content to a TextBox where apply TinyMCE use in DATABOUND EVENT for DetailView and HttpUtility.HtmlDecode (so it will look decoded) 04 - You can modify content in the textbox in edit mode. On post back TinyMCE will encoded again using encoding: "xml" an so on Hope guys can help some one else. But please give me your comment on this solution thanks! Mybe you come up with more elegant solution! :-)

• Passing trough a datagrid value

  I have a datagrid with 2 columns. One databound which display names and the other one is a hyperlink column. Column1 = databound column, Column2 = hyperlink column. column1: column2: --------------------- Name1 Modify Name2 Modify Next when i click on any of the values in Column2 i simply get redirected to a other page. This page contains 2 buttons/hyperlinks with Yes or No. (does not mather wich control, which one would bring the most easy to implement solution atm) When clicked on No it simply redirects back to the orignal page. Now the question is when i press "Yes" how exactly do i acces "Name1" (or Name2 if i press on the second modify)? Meaning if i press Yes i want to use this Name for certain opertions (xml). To put it short if i press on "modify" i want to be able to get that name associated with it (which is already displayed in the first bound column left of it). So the goal is to use that name in Xpath for example so i can make a query towards that node with that certain name. Hopefully this made some sence.
