    On mac osx terminal, I installed many terminal programs while trying to install a programming library. Now I'm wondering how I delete them. I think some of them include pip, macports, vmenven (or something). I'm not sure what these programs are called but they all are called from the command line using something like "macports..." (so I'm calling them terminal programs). First, how do I tell what terminal programs are installed. Second, how do I delete them. And, to be through, where are the programs stored anyway?

    Hey I have some problems with my Win7 so I've ran sfc /scannow and I got this message: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and was unable to fix some of them..." I also told to look at the folder of the log file to find the cbs.log. After that I've ran this command to pull out the actual problems/corrupt files: findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" This command have created an sfcdetails text file (download). Can someone help me to analyze this file? I haven't found a detailed article about it so far.

    I have an issue with touchpad, when I use it and I have one finger on the touchpad plate and another finger very close to the plate (but i do not touch it with the other finger), my mouse pointer is jumping around the screen. It seems to be an issue with touchpad which detects finger even if it is not touching the plate. I have dell e6530 with Apls touchpad driver and windows7, is there some software which can somehow help to mitigate this effect it is really annoying, on my previous laptop (7 years old) i did not have such issue.

    I have an application on Windows Server 2008 that takes different command-line parameters. For example: myapp.exe /A myapp.exe /B I have created a task scheduler task for each of those. While "myapp.exe /A" is running, I want to prevent another instance of it from starting. However, I still want "myapp.exe /B" to be able to run (again, though only one instance of it at a time). How can I set this up?

  • In Jetty, can NCSARequestLog be configured to auto-detect the time zone?

    It looks as though in 2003 or so NCSARequestLog would pick up the system time zone using TimeZone.getDefault().getID(), but in more recent versions it seems as though it's hard-coded to GMT, unless you override it in jetty.xml or programmatically. If true, this kind of annoying, since it means if you don't want GMT logging you have to edit jetty.xml for every installation (not to mention twice a year for daylight saving time). Is there a workaround that will let Jetty pick the time zone up from the system? (X-posted to Stack Overflow.)

    I am writing a script that uses MS KB 823732 to temporarily prevent users from plugging in new USB storage devices. This works fine, and the HKLM\...\Services\UsbStor registry key successfully blocks newly-connected devices from being accessed. Is there a WMI event that will tell me that a drive was connected, regardless of whether it was mounted? I tried querying for __InstanceCreationEvent but that is apparently raised only after the drive is mounted and made available, which doesn't fit my requirements.

    This is what I believe to be an interesting challenge :) A relative (that leaves a bit too far to go there in person) is complaining that their WIFI/Internet network performance has gone down abysmally lately. She'd like to know if some of the neighbors are using her wifi network to access the internet but she's not too technically savvy. I know that the best way to prevent issues would be to change the Router password, but it's a bit of a PITA having to re-configure all wifi devices... and if the uninvited guest broke the password once, they can do it again... Her wifi router/internet connection is provided by the telco, and remotely managed so she can log-on to their telco account's page and remotely change the router's Wifi password, but doesn't have access to the router status page/config/etc unless she opts out of the telco's remote support and mainteinance service... So, how could she check if there are guests in the wifi with this restrictions and in the most "point and click way"? In this case I'd probably use nmap to look for other devices in the network, but I'm not sure if that's the easiest way to do it. I'm not a wifi expert, so I don't know if there are any wifi-scanning utils that can tell us who's talking to the router... Lastly, she's a Windows user as I guess that'll influence the choice of tools available Any suggestions more than welcome Regards!

  • Why does the EFI shell not detect my Windows DVD?

    I'm currently looking into (U)EFI for the first time and am already really confused. I insert the Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise disc into the DVD-ROM and boot into the EFI shell. The shell will automatically list all detected devices, which are: blk0 :CDRom - Alias (null) Acpi(PNP0A03,0)/Pci(1F|2)/Ata(Primary,Master)/CDROM(Entry0) blk1 :BlockDevice - Alias (null) Acpi(PNP0A03,0)/Pci(1F|2)/Ata(Primary,Master) To my understanding, it should have already detected the filesystem on blk0 and should have mounted it as fs0. Why is that not happening? If I insert a USB drive, it gets mounted just fine. The board is an Intel S5520HC in case that makes a difference.

    Is there a way to tell the difference between my ISP blocking traffic on certain ports and my NAT router/firewall blocking that traffic? The sites “Shields Up” and “Can you see me” show my ports closed or not accessible, but I assume that is primarily due to the NAT router. (Obviously, I could just remove the router, connect directly and use those sites, but is there a simple way to test without doing that?)

    I have a few virtual servers + desktops that are used for shared development with remote users, including some consultants. Each user has an account with access to most aspects of the server. I don't want to prevent people from being productive, or track passwords or read emails, but I do want to know when and what files they copy from the virtual server or what they upload from the server to a remote site, and what if any applications they install. This will help make sure my IP is protected, that no one is installing tools they shouldn't, and that things are licensed appropriately. What is the simplest way to do this? In order of importance I would say detecting file transfers off the machine to be most critical. Thanks

  • Windows 7 does not detect my new hard drive?

    I just built a really nice new PC. Some specs... Intel i7-930 CPU ASRock Extreme X58 motherboard with sata 3 and USB 3.0 12gb of G-Skill DDR3 RAM 80gb Intel G2 Solid state drive for Windows 7 and other programs to run on Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS 2 1gb grapghic cards for 4 monitor support Thats the main components. Well today my new 1tb western digital hard drive came which I plan to use for data to preserve the life of my SSD (hopefully). I hooked up it's sata power input and then hooked up it's sata data cable to a sata 2 port on my motherboard, I boot windows 7 and go into my computer and the drive is not showing up with my other drives. I then re-boot again and check again, no luck. I then shut down the PC and open the case back up, I then check my connections and they all look good. I then boot up and I can see the new HD is on and spinning. I then go into my BIOS settings to see if it registers there and it DOES! It shows I have a WD 1tb hard drvie on sata 2 port 6. So I am at a loss of why it is not showing up as an option in windows? Windows acts as if the drive is not there. Please help

  • Drupal7 doesn't detect MySQL on CentOS, but Wordpress3 does?

    Hey guys. I'm running CentOS 5.5 here with Apache2, PHP5, and MySQL 5. My wordpress install on the same system runs perfectly, but the drupal7 install script only detects SQLite. The mysql module is enabled in php.ini, so that isn't the problem. Do you think it could be something with Drupal 7, or my PHP install? I tested it on localhost (I'm essentially running ArchLinux with Apache) and it installs just fine. I don't see a difference between my local php.ini and my server php.ini. I get this when accessing install.php on the server. SQLite The type of database your Drupal data will be stored in. Your PHP configuration only supports a single database type, so it has been automatically selected. Edit: The mysql PDO module is installed already.

In my case I am talking about printers. I have code to go out on the network and find the IP Address of all of my printers, but would like to be able to update a server based on a printer being swapped out of a location for maintenance or repair.     How can I detect page zoom level in all modern browsers? While this thread tells how to do it in IE7 and IE8, I can't find good solution for FF, Safari and Chrome. For FF one of the suggested solution FF stores page zoom level for future. So on first page load would I be able to get zoom level? Somewhere I read it works if you're changing zoom level on that page after its loaded. Is there a way to trap 'zoom' event?     hi, After being through numerous forums available on the net for last 5 days, I am still not able to completely track down the browser close event. My requirement is to generate a popup message, when user tries to close the browser. I have called my javascript function on body 'onbeforeunload' event. And I have hardcoded the conditions to check the mouse-coordinates for the red 'X' buton of browser, refresh, File-close or Alt-F4. My code works fine when browser window is Maximized, but fails if we shrink it after a limit. Please help me, if some body has already found the solution to a similar problem. Thank you. Aggregated Responses of OP Ok, just tell me if it is possible to detect if a user has clicked on the Refresh button of the browser. Also, Refresh can be triggered by Right-click - Refresh or Ctrl-R. My requirement is to make a variable false on Refresh. I am just able to do it on F5, but all other ways are still out of my reach. The same would be applied to Back buton. Hi ppl, Thanks for all who replied atleast. I have talked to my seniors regarding this and they have now understood and have compromised with the browser menu buttons. So now my task has become easy. Now, I am using a variable and making it true by default. As, I mentioned earlier I just have to catch the onbeforeunload and popup a message when user tries to leave.   • My sound stopped working today, how can I fix it?

    This seems to be a problem with pulseaudio. I was logged in over VNC on my phone and started playing a video this caused X to crash (as sometimes happens). I restarted and suddenly the sound doesn't work. I have a Intel HDA/Realtek ALC889 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller alsamixer is detecting this just fine. PulseAudio doesn't detect this alsa device so is using auto_null as the default sink (logs below). When I properly kill PulseAudio (tell it not to auto-start) direct ALSA communication with the sound card works just fine. speaker-test, for example, works. So the hardware and ALSA layers are fine IMO. In the logs, it seems that the card might be "busy" but I really don't know how or why it would be now (and never before). Is there an ALSA lock file somewhere that it still there because of my crash? I just ran sudo fuser /dev/snd/* and saw this: oli@bert:~$ sudo fuser /dev/snd/* /dev/snd/controlC0: 1884 /dev/snd/pcmC0D0c: 1884m /dev/snd/timer: 1884 A look at the process list (ps aux | grep 1884) tells me process 1884 is arecord -c 1 -f S16_LE -r 8000 -t raw.     Suppose I have a long string like "4600airportburlingame150anzablvd.burlingamecalifornia94010". My code is breaking on this string. This is UNUSUAL. 99% of entries will NOT have a period. The CSS in the browser wraps IF there are spaces in the string and there isn't any here. How do I detect the period (".") and insert a space directly after it? Remember 99% of strings will NOT have a period in them. The code has to detect if it has a period and if so, do the insertion, otherwise not. If I determine a maximum string length, how do I insert a space at some length? Thanks

  • How can I write a makefile to auto-detect and parallelize the build with GNU Make?

    Not sure if this is possible in one Makefile alone, but I was hoping to write a Makefile in a way such that trying to build any target in the file auto-magically detects the number of processors on the current system and builds the target in parallel for the number of processors. Something like the below "pseudo-code" examples, but much cleaner? all: @make -j$(NUM_PROCESSORS) all Or: all: .inparallel ... build all here ... .inparallel: @make -j$(NUM_PROCESSORS) $(ORIGINAL_TARGET) In both cases, all you would have to type is: % make all Hopefully that makes sense.
