• why do we all learn and study java or .net or why java or .net are popular?

  My question to be clear is why do we all need to learn java or .net(C#) , still java or .net are more popular than delphi or c++ and even there are lot of resource,articles or books compared to c++ or delphi about java and .net. However, I heard majority, if I am right about 80% of software are developed using c++ or delphi in the software industry. so, why do we bother about other languages specifically about the cosmopolitan languages such as java or .net in education as well as for job interview. Although, still I know the elegance of java and .net, their safe code execution,fully objected oriented behavior ...etc, but still according to the statics they are not preferred on software develpement as a primary language mainly because of their execution time compared to c++ or delphi. So my question are why do they choose them for jobs or educational purpose and everything else? why do we lose our time learning these language if we are forced to use the other languages in the industry?

  I developed a Pre-Update Plugin for the Case entity. In this plugin I want to set a string field to a new value. It works smoothly if the new value is not null. But if the new value si null, it is just ignored. This works: Incident caseTarget = ((Entity) localContext.PluginExecutionContext.InputParameters["Target"]).ToEntity<Incident>(); caseTarget.ProductSerialNumber = "new value"; After the execution of the plugin, the ProductSerialNumber field has value "new value". This doesn't work: Incident caseTarget = ((Entity) localContext.PluginExecutionContext.InputParameters["Target"]).ToEntity<Incident>(); caseTarget.ProductSerialNumber = null; After the execution of the plugin, the ProductSerialNumber field has still its old value. How can I set the target's field to null?

• Tabcompletion and docview while editing rc.lua

  I saw that there is a lua plugin for eclipse and there is a docpage on the awesome main page api_doc and all the .lua files in /usr/share/awesome/lib. So I thought it must be possible to create a Library or Execution Environment so that one has tabcompletion and docview. So I tried making my own Execution Environment: wrote the standard .rockspec file downloaded the documentation made an ofline version of it and put it in docs/ folder ziped the files and folders in /usr/share/awesome/lib ziped all up tried it out ... and it failed. When I try to view a documentaion for a .lua file I get "Note: This element has no attached documentation." Questions: Am I totaly wrong in my doing (because I have the feeling I am)? Is there any way to edit the rc.lua with tabcompletion and docview?

  I am looking for lightweight messaging framework in Java. My task is to process events in a SEDA’s manner: I know that some stages of the processing could be completed quickly, and others not, and would like to decouple these stages of processing. Let’s say I have components A and B and processing engine (be this container or whatever else) invokes component A, which in turn invokes component B. I do not care if execution time of component B will be 2s, but I do care if execution time of component A is below 50ms, for example. Therefore, it seems most reasonable for component A to submit a message to B, which B will process at the desired time. I am aware of different JMS implementations and Apache ActiveMQ: they are too heavyweight for this. I searched for some lightweight messaging (with really basic features like messages serialization and simplest routing) to no avail. Do you have anything to recommend in this issue?

We're running PHP5 on the server and we try to find a good way for managing errors and status reports that arises from the usage of our functions. While using return in functions, the execution is ended, so nothing more can be sent back. Right? What's the best practice to send a status information or error code upon ending execution of actual function?   My program has two threads: Main execution thread that handles user input and queues up database writes A utility thread that wakes up every second and flushes the writes to the database Inside the main thread, I occasionally need to make reads on the database. When this happens, performance is not important, but correctness is. (In a perfect world, I would be reading from a cache, not making a round-trip to the database - but let's put that aside for the sake of discussion.) How do I make sure that the main thread sees a correct / quiescent database? A standard mutex won't work, since I run the risk of having the main thread grab the mutex before the data gets flushed to the database. This would be a big race condition. What I really want is some sort of mutex that lets the main thread of execution proceed only AFTER the mutex has been grabbed and released once. Does such a thing exist? What's the best way to solve this problem?

  I would like to track the value of a boolean (not Boolean) variable in the Eclips debugger. I need to know when it does change and, for this, i need to track it's value through all the execution; not only when it is in scope. More particularly i have a class (let's call it myClass) with a boolean member variable called isAvailable. My program instantiate 4 or 5 myClass objects. I am expecting that at the end of the execution the isAvailable value of all of my objects is set to true. Contrarily to my excpectation one of myClass objects has isAvailable set to false. I need to know which (in a lot of) methods is setting isAvailable to false.

During report processing i am facing an error which states.."An error has occured during report processing .Query execution failed for dataset (datasetno).A severe error occured opn the current command.The results if any,should be discarded.Operation cancelled by user ".   I know the general theory but I can't fit in the details. I know that a program resides in the secondary memory of a computer. Once the program begins execution it is entirely copied to the RAM. Then the processor retrive a few instructions (it depends on the size of the bus) at a time, puts them in registers and executes them. I also know that a computer program uses two kinds of memory: stack and heap, which are also part of the primary memory of the computer. The stack is used for non-dynamic memory, and the heap for dynamic memory (for example, everything related to the new operator in C++) What I can't understand is how those two things connect. At what point is the stack used for the execution of the instructions? Instructions go from the RAM, to the stack, to the registers?

  I've got a simple class that gets most of its arguments via init, which also runs a variety of private methods that do most of the work. Output is available either through access to object variables or public methods. Here's the problem - I'd like my unittest framework to directly call the private methods called by init with different data - without going through init. What's the best way to do this? So far, I've been refactoring these classes so that init does less and data is passed in separately. This makes testing easy, but I think the usability of the class suffers a little.   Morning all. Got myself a simple query which returns ten rows in SQL Server Management Studio. I call the stored proc by right clicking it and feeding in the parameters. The results are returned immediately. In .NET we have set up a dataset class, added a table adapter whose select is this same procedure. I pass in the very same parameters and the execution times out after the standard 30 seconds. It continues to run immediately when called in sql server management studio. Any ideas why the execution time is seemingly infinite in the .net dataset class. The query is very simple.

• Adding more OR searches with CONTAINS Brings Query to Crawl

  I have a simple query that relies on two full-text indexed tables, but it runs extremely slow when I have the CONTAINS combined with any additional OR search. As seen in the execution plan, the two full text searches crush the performance. If I query with just 1 of the CONTAINS, or neither, the query is sub-second, but the moment you add OR into the mix the query becomes ill-fated. The two tables are nothing special, they're not overly wide (42 cols in one, 21 in the other; maybe 10 cols are FT indexed in each) or even contain very many records (36k recs in the biggest of the two). I was able to solve the performance by splitting the two CONTAINS searches into their own SELECT queries and then UNION the three together. Is this UNION workaround my only hope? Thanks.   Hi, I'm testing the CRUD operations of my DAOs in JUnit tests. When i execute the single test, Hibernate always resets the schema and populates the DB in a known state. But when i execute multiple tests in a row, Hibernate resets the schema once, and then the data is accumulated during the execution of the tests. This is an unexpected behavior, so I'd like to add in the @Before method of the tests a function that explicitly resets the schema to avoid the pesistence of side data created by previous tests during the execution chain. • Strange behaviour of Android debugger in Eclipse when using Camera for preview.

  Hi, I have an Android application that uses a SurfaceView subclass and Camera object to preview images before capture. Once I capture an image, I stop the preview and release the camera. Execution stops at any breakpoint after this. However, apart from the "Suspend" and "Terminate" icons, the rest are disabled. This is strange because the "Debug Current Instruction Pointer" is clearly at the said breakpoint and execution is already suspended. I can't perform any debugging operations and have no option but to terminate the session. Sometimes (very rarely), the session terminates by itself. I can confirm that this odd behavior takes place only after I preview the camera capture. I am fairly new to Android development. Is there some obvious mistake I am making? Any help would be highly appreciated.

• Stored procedure called from C# executes 6 times longer than from SQL Management studio

  I have search stored procedure which is my performance bottleneck. In order to get control about what is happened, I added logging for all parameters and also execution time in SP. I noticed, that when I call SP from MIcrosoft SQL server management Studio execution time is 1.3-1.6 seconds, but when i call it from C#, it takes 6-8 secods (!!!)
