Is it really necessary to spell out OPTIONS in every defined route that restricts the verbs supported?

For OC4J: If you do not specify any transaction attributes for an EJB method then OC4J uses default transaction attributes. OC4J by default uses Required for CMP 2.0, NotSupported for MDBs and Supports for all other types of EJBs. (refer to official doc) For JBoss: default for all types EJB is Required. (Maybe , refer to un-official site) To migrate my project within less effort, how to config a default global EJB transaction attribute, e.g. Supports, in JBoss Server?

• Global search box extension - how to make browser to start when suggestion picked.

  Hi, I'm implementing global search box extension (sth like SearchableDictionary sample in android sdk). Everything works fine - suggestions are displayed properly. Problem is that I want browser to start when user picks a suggestion. (each suggestion is a link) Columns of my cursor contain SearchManager.SUGGEST_COLUMN_INTENT_DATA, and I use that to pass http link. My searchable xml contains default intent action set to: android:searchSuggestIntentAction="android.intent.action.VIEW". But when user hits the suggestion, my application is started instead of browser. What am I missing? Regards!

• In CQRS (event-sourced), do you need a global sequence counter in the event store?

  In trying to get my head around CQRS (and DDD in general) I have come across situations when two events occur on different aggregates but the order of them has domain meaning. If so then they could happen so close together that a timestamp (as used by the sample implementations I have seen) cannot differentiate them, meaning the event store doesn't contain a 'complete' representation of the domain as there is ambiguity over the order in which events occurred. As an example, the domain could fire a CustomerCreatedEvent which applies to the Customer aggregate, and then a CustomerAssignedToAgent event on the Agent aggregate. The CustomerAssignedToAgent event doesn't make sense if it occurs before the CustomerCreatedEvent, but typically both of these might be fired as a result of one operation which makes it likely that the timestamps would effectively be the same. So am I just modelling things badly? Should there ever be a situation where the sequence of events across different aggregates is important? Or should you keep a global sequence number on your event store, so that you can identify the exact sequence in which events occurred?

  After installing and using Visual Studio 2010, I'm seeing some newer file types (at least with C++ projects ... don't know about the other types) as compared to 2008. e.g. .sdf, .opensdf, which I guess are the replacement for ncb files with Intellisense info stored in SQL Server Compact files? I also notice .log files are generated, which appear to be build logs. Given this, what's safe to add to my global ignore pattern? Off the bat, I'd assume .sdf, .opensdf, but what else?

• Global variable in a recursive function how to keep it at zero?

  So if I have a recursive function with a global variable var_: int var_; void foo() { if(var_ == 3) return; else var_++; foo(); } and then I have a function that calls foo() so: void bar() { foo(); return; } what is the best way to set var_ =0 everytime foo is called thats not from within itself. I know I could just do: void bar() { var_ =0; foo(); return; } but I'm using the recursive function a lot and I don't want to call foo and forget to set var_=0 at a later date. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this? Thanks, Josh

• I set a global bug catcher in my application for unhandled exceptions and it is picking up all exceptions

  I am trying to figure out why this is happing. In my vb.net application I set a global handler in the ApplicationEvents.vb which I thought would only pick up any unhandled exceptions, although it is picking up every exception that happens in my application whether or not they are handled with try catch blocks.   i have a word document. it have 2 parts one english and one arabic. the problem is that all the numbers are english numbers [0123456789] but i want the arabic part's numbers to be arabic numbers [??????????] how can i do that in word 2007 or 2010? thanks Edit: since i didnt receive any response to the question i created a software that converts english numbers to arabic and then i use it to convert the numbers in the document. but still wondering if there is a more easy way to do it?

  I am able to send email to individual users but when not when they are in a distribution group. When I do I get this report. The message could not be delivered because the recipient's destination email system is unknown or invalid. Please check the address and try again, or contact your system administrator to verify connectivity to the email system of the recipient. #5.3.1 However, like I said before I can select their name from the GAL and send mail that way. Their email address is exactly the same in both the GAL and distribution group. The only difference is these users have external email addresses. Windows Server 2003 Exchange Server 2003 Outlook 2007 and 2010.

• Sonicwall Global VPN Client fails to connect, despite successful connections from other computers from behind the same router

  I've recently been unable to connect to our Sonicwall VPN at work. The Sonicwall client is stuck on "connecting", and the log says "The peer is not responding to phase1 ISAKMP requests". The weird thing is that this is not an issue with my own PC, only my work laptop (Lenovo W530 running Windows 7 64-bit), and this has only appeared recently. This ought to rule out any problems with my ISP blocking VPN, or issues with the router itself. My company's IT department says that they cannot see anything in their logs when I'm trying to connect. My conclusion is that something is wrong on the laptop itself. Disabling the firewall does not help. Can the VPN connection be blocked in other ways? What should I be looking for? EDIT: This problem has "magically" disappeared, without any changes done in my network. I can only assume that this was caused by some network glitch with my ISP.

• Is there a 'global media cache' in Windows 7 that may be used by third party media players?

  Here's the background. I don't use Windows Media Player or Media Centre, in fact both components have been 'turned off' via the 'Programs and Features' option. My media player of choice is a nightly build of MPC-HC, which plays virtually everything. I do, however, have VLC portable available for those rare instances when MPC-HC can't or won't play something correctly. This is the situation. I tend to download various media files via torrent, typically, game trailers or freely availably films, such as the recently released, torrent only, Pioneer One. Quite often these files are quite large, being 1GB+ so I quite often like to preview the file after it has downloaded a significant portion of the file. For the most part, this works quite well, and gives me an idea about the worth of continuing the download. Sometimes, however, the file doesn't play as expected and instead plays a completely unrelated file that has been previously played. Here's the strange thing. if I try to preview the file in MPC-HC or VLC both players play the same, previously played file, regardless of whichever player was originally responsible for playback. Most times, it's not even a file that's been played recently. I have searched the registry for some sort of MRU cache, but have found nothing. I have made sure each player has had it's respective history/cache deleted and can fine nothing on disk that seems to be storing this, apparently shared data. So, the question is, where are these unrelated players getting the file information from? Thnaks.

• Windows/global setting to allow only SSL when on public Wifi?

  Rather than going through each of my apps and modifying settings, or tweaking individual browser settings (I use three different browsers) or just being careful not to type non-SSL URLs into the web address bar, is there a solution at the Windows level that will prevent anything from connecting to the web from my laptop unless it's using SSL? I also have mini apps installed like Gmail checker, etc that connect to the web of their own volition using my usernames, passwords and such, so it goes beyond just web browsers. The reason I'm asking is I want to work securely on the general Internet when on public Wifi (e.g. coffee shops) without a lot of hassle or having to remember everything that needs to be locked down. When I'm back home I want to go back to full access mode using any kind of protocol on the web. If a website doesn't support SSL when I'm out in public then I just don't surf it - that's not a worry to me.

• What does flushing thread local memory to global memory mean?

  Hi, I am aware that the purpose of volatile variables in Java is that writes to such variables are immediately visible to other threads. I am also aware that one of the effects of a synchronized block is to flush thread-local memory to global memory. I have never fully understood the references to 'thread-local' memory in this context. I understand that data which only exists on the stack is thread-local, but when talking about objects on the heap my understanding becomes hazy. I was hoping that to get comments on the following points: When executing on a machine with multiple processors, does flushing thread-local memory simply refer to the flushing of the CPU cache into RAM? When executing on a uniprocessor machine, does this mean anything at all? If it is possible for the heap to have the same variable at two different memory locations (each accessed by a different thread), under what circumstances would this arise? What implications does this have to garbage collection? How aggressively do VMs do this kind of thing? Overall, I think am trying to understand whether thread-local means memory that is physically accessible by only one CPU or if there is logical thread-local heap partitioning done by the VM? Any links to presentations or documentation would be immensely helpful. I have spent time researching this, and although I have found lots of nice literature, I haven't been able to satisfy my curiosity regarding the different situations & definitions of thread-local memory. • View Models (ViewData), UserControls/Partials and Global variables - best practice?

  Hi I'm trying to figure out a good way to have 'global' members (such as CurrentUser, Theme etc.) in all of my partials as well as in my views. I don't want to have a logic class that can return this data (like BL.CurrentUser) I do think it needs to be a part of the Model in my views So I tried inheriting from BaseViewData with these members. In my controllers, in this way or another (a filter or base method in my BaseController), I create an instance of the inheriting class and pass it as a view data. Everything's perfect till this point, cause then I have my view data available on the main View with the base members. But what about partials? If I have a simple partial that needs to display a blog post then it looks like this: <%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" Inherits="ViewUserControl<Post>" %> and simple code to render this partial in my view (that its model.Posts is IEnumerable<Post>): <%foreach (Post p in this.Model.Posts) {%> <%Html.RenderPartial("Post",p); %> <%}%> Since the partial's Model isn't BaseViewData, I don't have access to those properties. Hence, I tried to make a class named PostViewData which inherits from BaseViewData, but then my containing views will have a code to actually create the PostViewData in them in order to pass it to the partial: <%Html.RenderPartial("Post",new PostViewData { Post=p,CurrentUser=Model.CurrentUser,... }); %> Or I could use a copy constructor <%Html.RenderPartial("Post",new PostViewData(Model) { Post=p }); %> I just wonder if there's any other way to implement this before I move on. • Global Temporary Table "On commit delete rows" functionality discrepancy.

  I have a global temporary table. I called my GTT, for that was it's initials. My GTT never hurt anyone, and did everything I bade of it. I asked my GTT to delete rows on commit. This is a valid function in the creation script of my GTT in oracle. I wanted to be able to have different users see GTT with their own data, and not the data of other people's sessions. 'Delete rows on commit' worked perfectly in our test environment. GTT and I were happy. But then, I deployed GTT as part of an update to functionality to a client's database. The database doesn't like to play well with GTT. GTT called me up all upset and worried, because it wasn't holding any data any more, and didn't know why. GTT told me that if someone did: insert into my_GTT (description) values ('Happy happy joy joy') he would sing-song back: 1 row inserted. However, if the same person tried select * from my_GTT; GTT didn't know what to do, and he replied 0 rows returned. GTT was upset that he didn't know what his playmate had inserted. Please, Stackoverflow, why would GTT forget what was placed into him? He can remember perfectly well at home, but out in the cold harsh world, he just gets so scared. :(

• Intercepting mouse events using a global hook. Stop an action from happening.

  I'm attempting to intercept and interrupt mouse events. Lets say I wanted to disable the right mouse button down event, or even the mouse move event. I haven't been able to figure out the interrupting part. I am using the (I assume pretty widely used) following code for Global Hooking of the mouse. • Where should global Application Settings be stored on Windows 7?

  Hi everybody, I'm working hard on making my product work seamlessly on Windows 7. The problem is that there is a small set of global (not user-specific) application settings that all users should be able to change. On previous versions I used HKLM\Software\__Company__\__Product__ for that purpose. This allowed Power Users and Administrators to modify the Registry Key and everything worked correctly. Now that Windows Vista and Windows 7 have this UAC feature, by default, even an Administrator cannot access the Key for writing without elevation. A stupid solution would, of course, mean adding requireAdministrator option into the application manifest. But this is really unprofessional since the product itself is extremely far from administration-related tasks. So I need to stay with asInvoker. Another solution could mean programmatic elevation during moments when write access to the Registry Key is required. Let alone the fact that I don't know how to implement that, it's pretty awkward also. It interferes with normal user experience so much that I would hardly consider it an option. What I know should be relatively easy to accomplish is adding write access to the specified Registry Key during installation. I created a separate question for that. This also very similar to accessing a shared file for storing the settings. My feeling is that there must be a way to accomplish what I need, in a way that is secure, straightforward and compatible with all OS'es. Any ideas?
