  • how do I download a large file (via HTTP) in .NET

    I need to download a LARGE file (2GB) over HTTP in a C# console app. Problem is, after about 1.2GB, the app runs out of memory. Here's the code I'm using: WebClient request = new WebClient(); request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(username, password); byte[] fileData = request.DownloadData(baseURL + fName); As you can see... I'm reading the file directly into memory. I'm pretty sure I could solve this if I were to read the data back from HTTP in chunks and write it to a file on disk. Does anyone know how I could do this?

    I'm developing an application for iOS in Xcode 4.5 but I have a problem with a UIWebView. I want to set a header(BASE64 code) to skip a login part. When I try this, using the NPWebView project the webview always fails with an error which looks like this: Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-999 "The operation couldn’t be completed.   • Google App Engine, Java, and HTTP Performance

    A friend and I are currently working on a turn-based game with chat with both desktop browser and Android clients, with Google App Engine as the server. We're using the Java API for GAE and using HTTP for communication with the server. We've implemented simple chat functionality, and we're getting undesirable latencies 1-3 seconds from both the browser and Android clients while just posting simple one-word chat messages. My friend thought it would be best to use XMPP instead of HTTP, but we want to use a Google Accounts cookie for authentication from the Android client, and according to the GAE documentation, XMPP clients cannot use a Google Accounts cookie and must use the user's password. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where the latency might be coming from, how to troubleshoot it, and/or what to do about it? Also, is anyone aware of any opensource implementations of chat (or something similar) on GAE done in Java? Can't seem to find any.

  • Open Source .NET embedded web/http server

    I am working on a project where I need to embed a web server into my C# application so the application could display it's status via HTTP. I suppose I'll want to configure it through the http also. I am looking for an open-source library written in C# and with a licensing scheme that will allow me to link it into my existing closed source code (LGPL). Any suggestions of specific products or where to look first? It would be great if that product could have some kind of scripting, at least templates. All html output would go from the application, only resources would be stored on the disk (images, icons, ...) EDIT: I would like it to run under .NET 2.0, however.

  • HTTP server that handles requests through IO devices?

    This question can probably only be answered for Unix-like systems that follow the "everything is a file" idiom. Would it be hard to create a web server that mounts local devices for handling http traffic? It would enable a program to read raw http requests from /dev/httpin (for example) and write the responses to /dev/httpout. I think this would be nice because it would allow me to create a web server from any programming language that is capable of handling IO streams. I don't really know where to start on this. Any suggestions on how to setup such a system?

"Unexpected end of file from server" keeps on coming . the page is password protected, I would like to know if I am properly giving in my url authentication details. I tried with non protected pages and I can read them properly.   • Handling HTTP 404 Error in ASP.NET Web API

            Introduction:                     Building modern HTTP/RESTful/RPC services has become very easy with the new ASP.NET Web API framework. Using ASP.NET Web API framework, you can create HTTP services which can be accessed from browsers, machines, mobile devices and other clients. Developing HTTP services is now become more easy for ASP.NET MVC developer becasue ASP.NET Web API is now included in ASP.NET MVC. In addition to developing HTTP services, it is also important to return meaningful response to client if a resource(uri) not found(HTTP 404) for a reason(for example, mistyped resource uri). It is also important to make this response centralized so you can configure all of 'HTTP 404 Not Found' resource at one place. In this article, I will show you how to handle 'HTTP 404 Not Found' at one place.         Description:                     Let's say that you are developing a HTTP RESTful application using ASP.NET Web API framework. In this application you need to handle HTTP 404 errors in a centralized location. From ASP.NET Web API point of you, you need to handle these situations, No route matched. Route is matched but no {controller} has been found on route. No type with {controller} name has been found. No matching action method found in the selected controller due to no action method start with the request HTTP method verb or no action method with IActionHttpMethodProviderRoute implemented attribute found or no method with {action} name found or no method with the matching {action} name found.                                          Now, let create a ErrorController with Handle404 action method. This action method will be used in all of the above cases for sending HTTP 404 response message to the client.  public class ErrorController : ApiController { [HttpGet, HttpPost, HttpPut, HttpDelete, HttpHead, HttpOptions, AcceptVerbs("PATCH")] public HttpResponseMessage Handle404() { var responseMessage = new HttpResponseMessage(HttpStatusCode.NotFound); responseMessage.ReasonPhrase = "The requested resource is not found"; return responseMessage; } }                     You can easily change the above action method to send some other specific HTTP 404 error response. If a client of your HTTP service send a request to a resource(uri) and no route matched with this uri on server then you can route the request to the above Handle404 method using a custom route. Put this route at the very bottom of route configuration,  routes.MapHttpRoute( name: "Error404", routeTemplate: "{*url}", defaults: new { controller = "Error", action = "Handle404" } );                     Now you need handle the case when there is no {controller} in the matching route or when there is no type with {controller} name found. You can easily handle this case and route the request to the above Handle404 method using a custom IHttpControllerSelector. Here is the definition of a custom IHttpControllerSelector, public class HttpNotFoundAwareDefaultHttpControllerSelector : DefaultHttpControllerSelector { public HttpNotFoundAwareDefaultHttpControllerSelector(HttpConfiguration configuration) : base(configuration) { } public override HttpControllerDescriptor SelectController(HttpRequestMessage request) { HttpControllerDescriptor decriptor = null; try { decriptor = base.SelectController(request); } catch (HttpResponseException ex) { var code = ex.Response.StatusCode; if (code != HttpStatusCode.NotFound) throw; var routeValues = request.GetRouteData().Values; routeValues["controller"] = "Error"; routeValues["action"] = "Handle404"; decriptor = base.SelectController(request); } return decriptor; } }                     Next, it is also required to pass the request to the above Handle404 method if no matching action method found in the selected controller due to the reason discussed above. This situation can also be easily handled through a custom IHttpActionSelector.   • Google Webmaster Tools Index Status is 0 but sitemap URL shows indexed

    I've added my site to Google Webmaster tools www.medexpress.co.uk. The site was submitted a few weeks ago. The index status shows 0 but it shows 6 URLs have been indexed in the sitemaps section. If I search in google I can see that the site is indexed and several pages appear: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Awww.medexpress.co.uk&oq=site%3Awww.medexpress.co.uk&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 My question is why is the index status 0 when the sitemap section shows several indexed pages and also the pages appear in the search engine.

  • keyboard status leds not working

    Running Ubuntu 13.10 64bit The status leds are not working correctly on my new keyboard under Ubuntu. Pressing Caps Lock and Num Lock do not cause the leds to turn on/off to reflect their status. Rather I have a num lock led stuck on, and a caps lock led that never turns on. The actual function of the caps lock and num lock is unaffected though, just the leds not working. I am able to use ¨setleds¨ to turn the leds on an off from a console session, so I don´t think there's any hardware problem. Also the keyboard does not have the same problem under windows 7. Anyone have any solutions? thanks!   • DNS query re website Status: inactive

    There is a website that I am assisting with which, when you do a DNS look up on Who.is, returns a Website Status of "inactive". I also noticed the server type is incorrectly reported. This is not a website I generally use for DNS queries so am unsure if it is reliable. Using other DNS checking services reports what Iwould expect and the site is functioning correctly. Research I have done with regard to Website Status: inactive suggests an issue with the DNS configuration? I am looking for help understanding if this is something to be concerned with and if possible how to update this value or how it gets set in the first place.

  • Returning status code where one of many errors could have occured

    I'm developing a PHP login component which includes functions to manipulate the User object, such as $User->changePassword(string $old, string $new) What I need some advice with is how to return a status, as the function can either succeed (no further information needs to be given) or fail (and the calling code needs to know why, for example incorrect password, database problem etc.) I've come up with the following ideas: Unix-style: return 0 on success, another code on failure. This doesn't seem particularly common in PHP and the language's type-coercion messes with this (a function returning FALSE on success?) This seems to be the best I can think of. Throw an exception on error. PHP's exception support is limited, and this will make life harder for anybody trying to use the functions. Return an array, containing a boolean for "success" or not, and a string or an int for "failure status" if applicable. None of these seem particularly appealing, does anyone have any advice or better ideas?

  • How to get an unprivileged public status page showing in OpenWrt 12.09 or newer?

    For the use case where the WAN connection goes down, but employees can still access wifi, I'd like them to be able to check on some sort of a public router status page in their problem reports. This may have been available on DD-WRT at one point (or still is), I can't 100% recall anymore. Going through all LuCI's screens with a fine-toothed comb and googling a fair amount isn't producing results. Anyone have a solution?
