  • Java works under Firefox but crashes Internet Explorer

    - by Dominic Grenier
Java works under Firefox and Chrome but not under IE. Here's what I tried (the advice normally given on forums): Java applet activated in tools - internet options - security tab - personnalise - Java applets Activated in tools - manage add-ons - tool bars and extensions - Java (tm) SSV2 helper - Activate Activated in tools - internet options - advanced tab - Use JRE for applet I've also deleted my temporary internet files (with Ccleaner), Reinstalled IE8 It is also set as the default Java for IE through the control panel - Java - Advanced tab - default Java for browsers - Microsoft Internet Explorer IE version: 8.0.6001.18702 Java version: 1.7.0_03. (also tried with 1.6.0_31) Windows XP SP3. Any advice? Thanks :) edit: I have activated the ActiveX controls through manage add-ons - all add-ons but now, although the coffe cup loading screen appears (which did not before) it makes IE crash (which is new). I might have fiddled too much with the registry by trying to completely remove Java to reinstall it, so I ran "rereg" (a tool to repair dlls and their registry entries) without success.

  • Small Open source and free java applications

    - by user1089770
I am a Perl Developer who has just stepped into the Java world and I want to be very proficient in Java EE development. However, I have found that, being a Perl guy, I have very high MTI(Mother Tongue Influence). Indians will know what MTI is. For others, it can be defined as an influence of your "main" language whenever you "speak" your new language. In other words, our mind converts/translates what we want to "say" in the new language based on the "main" language, which can be quite absurd or meaning less in the "new" language. Coming back to the point, as a result of this MTI, many lines of my code has this Perl influence and it is absurd and useless for production. Hence, I'd like to see or better do some research on existing small to medium open source java applications, so that I will know how I can "speak" in the native way of the "new" language. Some examples in PHP will be : WordPress, Zend etc. So I'd really appreciate if you guys could suggest any such apps. Apps that have a great commercial value are highly preferred

  • Look Inside WebLogic Server Embedded LDAP with an LDAP Explorer

    - by james.bayer
Today a question came up on our internal WebLogic Server mailing lists about an issue deleting a Group from WebLogic Server.  The group had a special character in the name. The WLS console refused to delete the group with the message a java.net.MalformedURLException and another message saying “Errors must be corrected before proceeding.” as shown below. The group aa:bb is the one with the issue.  Click to enlarge. WebLogic Server includes an embedded LDAP server that can be used for managing users and groups for “reasonably small environments (10,000 or fewer users)”.  For organizations scaling larger or using more high-end features, I recommend looking at one of Oracle’s very popular enterprise directory services products like Oracle Internet Directory or Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition.  You can configure multiple authenicators in WebLogic Server so that you can use multiple directories at the same time. I am not sure WebLogic Server supports special characters in group names for the Embedded LDAP server, but in this case both the console and WLST reported the same issue deleting the group with the special character in the name.  Here’s the WLST output: wls:/hotspot_domain/serverConfig/SecurityConfiguration/hotspot_domain/Realms/myrealm/AuthenticationProviders/DefaultAuthenticator> cmo.removeGroup('aa:bb') Traceback (innermost last): File "<console>", line 1, in ? weblogic.security.providers.authentication.LDAPAtnDelegateException: [Security:090296]invalid URL ldap:///ou=people,ou=myrealm,dc=hotspot_domain??sub?(&(objectclass=person)(wlsMemberOf=cn=aa:bb,ou=groups,ou=myrealm,dc=hotspot_domain)) at weblogic.security.providers.authentication.LDAPAtnGroupMembersNameList.advance(LDAPAtnGroupMembersNameList.java:254) at weblogic.security.providers.authentication.LDAPAtnGroupMembersNameList.<init>(LDAPAtnGroupMembersNameList.java:119) at weblogic.security.providers.authentication.LDAPAtnDelegate.listGroupMembers(LDAPAtnDelegate.java:1392) at weblogic.security.providers.authentication.LDAPAtnDelegate.removeGroup(LDAPAtnDelegate.java:1989) at weblogic.security.providers.authentication.DefaultAuthenticatorImpl.removeGroup(DefaultAuthenticatorImpl.java:242) at weblogic.security.providers.authentication.DefaultAuthenticatorMBeanImpl.removeGroup(DefaultAuthenticatorMBeanImpl.java:407) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) at weblogic.management.jmx.modelmbean.WLSModelMBean.invoke(WLSModelMBean.java:437) at com.sun.jmx.interceptor.DefaultMBeanServerInterceptor.invoke(DefaultMBeanServerInterceptor.java:836) at com.sun.jmx.mbeanserver.JmxMBeanServer.invoke(JmxMBeanServer.java:761) at weblogic.management.jmx.mbeanserver.WLSMBeanServerInterceptorBase$16.run(WLSMBeanServerInterceptorBase.java:449) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at weblogic.management.jmx.mbeanserver.WLSMBeanServerInterceptorBase.invoke(WLSMBeanServerInterceptorBase.java:447) at weblogic.management.mbeanservers.internal.JMXContextInterceptor.invoke(JMXContextInterceptor.java:263) at weblogic.management.jmx.mbeanserver.WLSMBeanServerInterceptorBase$16.run(WLSMBeanServerInterceptorBase.java:449) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at weblogic.management.jmx.mbeanserver.WLSMBeanServerInterceptorBase.invoke(WLSMBeanServerInterceptorBase.java:447) at weblogic.management.mbeanservers.internal.SecurityInterceptor.invoke(SecurityInterceptor.java:444) at weblogic.management.jmx.mbeanserver.WLSMBeanServer.invoke(WLSMBeanServer.java:323) at weblogic.management.mbeanservers.internal.JMXConnectorSubjectForwarder$11$1.run(JMXConnectorSubjectForwarder.java:663) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at weblogic.management.mbeanservers.internal.JMXConnectorSubjectForwarder$11.run(JMXConnectorSubjectForwarder.java:661) at weblogic.security.acl.internal.AuthenticatedSubject.doAs(AuthenticatedSubject.java:363) at weblogic.management.mbeanservers.internal.JMXConnectorSubjectForwarder.invoke(JMXConnectorSubjectForwarder.java:654) at javax.management.remote.rmi.RMIConnectionImpl.doOperation(RMIConnectionImpl.java:1427) at javax.management.remote.rmi.RMIConnectionImpl.access$200(RMIConnectionImpl.java:72) at javax.management.remote.rmi.RMIConnectionImpl$PrivilegedOperation.run(RMIConnectionImpl.java:1265) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at javax.management.remote.rmi.RMIConnectionImpl.doPrivilegedOperation(RMIConnectionImpl.java:1367) at javax.management.remote.rmi.RMIConnectionImpl.invoke(RMIConnectionImpl.java:788) at javax.management.remote.rmi.RMIConnectionImpl_WLSkel.invoke(Unknown Source) at weblogic.rmi.internal.BasicServerRef.invoke(BasicServerRef.java:667) at weblogic.rmi.internal.BasicServerRef$1.run(BasicServerRef.java:522) at weblogic.security.acl.internal.AuthenticatedSubject.doAs(AuthenticatedSubject.java:363) at weblogic.security.service.SecurityManager.runAs(SecurityManager.java:146) at weblogic.rmi.internal.BasicServerRef.handleRequest(BasicServerRef.java:518) at weblogic.rmi.internal.wls.WLSExecuteRequest.run(WLSExecuteRequest.java:118) at weblogic.work.ExecuteThread.execute(ExecuteThread.java:207) at weblogic.work.ExecuteThread.run(ExecuteThread.java:176) Caused by: java.net.MalformedURLException at netscape.ldap.LDAPUrl.readNextConstruct(LDAPUrl.java:651) at netscape.ldap.LDAPUrl.parseUrl(LDAPUrl.java:277) at netscape.ldap.LDAPUrl.<init>(LDAPUrl.java:114) at weblogic.security.providers.authentication.LDAPAtnGroupMembersNameList.advance(LDAPAtnGroupMembersNameList.java:224) ... 41 more It’s fairly clear that in order to work that the : character needs to be URL encoded to %3A or similar.  But all is not lost, there is another way.  You can configure an LDAP Explorer like JXplorer to WebLogic Server Embedded LDAP and browse/edit the entries. Follow the instructions here, being sure to change the authentication credentials to the Embedded LDAP server to some value you know, as by default they are some unknown value.  You’ll need to reboot the WebLogic Server Admin Server after making this change. Now configure JXplorer to connect as described in the documentation.  I’ve circled the important inputs.  In this example, my domain name is “hotspot_domain” which listens on the localhost listen address and port 7001.  The cn=Admin user name is a constant identifier for the Administrator of the embedded LDAP and that does not change, but you need to know what it is so you can enter it into the tool you use. Once you connect successfully, you can explore the entries and in this case delete the group that is no longer desired.

  • Geek it Up

    - by BuckWoody
I’ve run into a couple of kinds of folks in IT. Some really like technology a lot – a whole lot –and others treat it more as a job. For those of you in the second camp, you can go back to your drab, meaningless jobs – this post is for the first group. I’m a geek. Not a little bit of a geek, a really big one. I love technology, I get excited about science and electronics in general, and I read math books when I don’t have to. Yes, I have a Star Trek item or two around the house. My daughter is fluent in both Monty Python AND Serenity. I totally admit it. So if you’re like me (OK, maybe a little less geeky than that), then go for it. Put those toys in your cubicle, wear your fan shirt, but most of all, geek up your tools. No, this isn’t an April Fool’s post – I really mean it. I’ve noticed that when I get the larger monitor, better mouse, cooler keyboard, I LIKE coming to work. It’s a way to reward yourself – I’ve even found that it makes work easier if I have the kind of things I enjoy around to work with. So buy that old “clicky” IBM keyboard, get three monitors, and buy a nice headset so that you can set all of your sounds to Monty Python WAV’s. And get to work. • WCF Service, Java JApplet client, transport error 405

    - by Juan Zamudio
Hi all, I'm having a problem with a WCF Service and Java Client, I will try to give as much information as i can, thanks for your time. The Endpoint of the server is BasicHttpBinding, I tried hosting the server as a Windows Service and in IIS but nothing changed. The weird thing is that the Client works great if I use a simple class, in the moment I switch the class to an JApplet I get the problem mentioned. I'm using Eclipse as an IDE, I tried Axis and Metro to generate the stub with the same bad results. Here is an example of the Java class where everything is working public class TestSoaMetro { public String TestMethod(){ String result=null; IDigitalSignatureService aa = new DigitalSignatureService().getBasicHttpBindingEndpoint(); try { result= aa.getData("1", "id002962"); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataArgumentExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataInvalidOperationExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } return result; } } Here is the example of the JApplet where I get the error: public class TestSoaMetroApplet extends JApplet { public void init() { Container content = getContentPane(); content.setBackground(Color.white); content.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); String result= this.TestMethod(); JLabel label = new JLabel(result); content.add(label); } public String TestMethod(){ String result=null; IDigitalSignatureService aa = null; try { aa = new DigitalSignatureService().getBasicHttpBindingEndpoint(); result= aa.getData("1", "id002962"); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataArgumentExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataInvalidOperationExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } return result; } } In the moment the Applet loads I get the error, is the exact same call so I don't understand why I get the exception using the Applet. I Also tried to call this from a Silverlight client and I was getting a security exception, this is where I found out about clientaccesspolicy.xml and crossdomain.xml, I added clientaccesspolicy.xml to the service and the Silverlight Client works great, so I decided to try crossdomain.xml and nothing, the Applet still does not work. I will put the stack trace at the end, thanks all for your time. • setting something disposed or invisible java

    - by OVERTONE
this might be simple enough as just inserting the right method but i cant seem to get it right. i have a simple program with two buttons. each one changes the picture above them. but anytime i click the buttons i get some odd awt event queue error. i think its because im trying to add something to a frame after its already been made. package icnon; import javax.imageio.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class FrameIconExample extends JFrame implements ActionListener { JLabel j; JPanel p, l, k; JButton picOne, picTwo; Container cPane; public FrameIconExample() { JButton picOne = new JButton("picOne"); JButton picTwo = new JButton("picTwo"); picOne.setName("picOne"); picTwo.setName("picTwo"); picOne.addActionListener(this); picTwo.addActionListener(this); JPanel p = new JPanel(new GridLayout(2, 1)); JPanel l = new JPanel(new FlowLayout()); JPanel k = new JPanel(new FlowLayout()); cPane = getContentPane(); j = new JLabel(new ImageIcon("../meet/src/images/beautiful-closeup-portrait-photography.jpg")); l.add(j); k.add(picOne); k.add(picTwo); p.add(l); p.add(k); add(p); } public static void main(String[] args) { FrameIconExample frame = new FrameIconExample(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setSize(new Dimension(300, 800)); frame.setTitle("Frame Icon Example"); // Display the form frame.setVisible(true); } @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { JButton temp = (JButton) e.getSource(); String src = "../meet/src/images/Majken Kruse portrait - john.jpg"; //System.out.println(src + " " + temp.getName()); if(temp.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("picOne")) { src = "../meet/src/images/beautiful-closeup-portrait-photography.jpg"; System.out.println(src + " " + temp.getName()); Icon img; j = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(src)); l.add(j); System.out.println("1"); } if(temp.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("picTwo")) { src = "../icontest/images/Majken Kruse portrait - john.jpg"; System.out.println(src + " " + temp.getName()); Icon img; j = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(src)); l.add(j); System.out.println("2"); } } } its all just the one program so if you copy paste it into an editor you can see the stack trace. but the source of the image files wont be there. does anyone know how id do it? or where im goin wrong? stack trace: ../meet/src/images/beautiful-closeup-portrait-photography.jpg picOne Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException at icnon.FrameIconExample.actionPerformed(FrameIconExample.java:68) at javax.swing.AbstractButton.fireActionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.AbstractButton$Handler.actionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.fireActionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.setPressed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicButtonListener.mouseReleased(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.JComponent.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.processEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.processEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.retargetMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Window.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventQueue.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpOneEventForFilters(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForFilter(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForHierarchy(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(Unknown Source)

  • So LibGDX / Java or XNA / C# [on hold]

    - by Israel G.
I am curious to know what will be better for me - LibGDX / Java or XNA / C#. I am on the same level with C# and Java (I am pretty advanced with both of them). I really want to get into game development, develop indie games and such. So what are the pros and cons of XNA and LibGDX, what do you prefer personally and why? Java - LibGDX is cross platform and uses OpenGL. C# - XNA is for windows only ( you can use monogame but it will hurt performance and other things), Unfortunately, XNA is not going to be supported anymore but I still see people that recommend it over libGDX. (XNA is more popular and has more tutorials then libGDX). So please help me to pick, I really don't know what to choose. Thanks a lot!

  • Connecting to Magento Web Services with Java

    - by kerry
I was in the unenviable position of needing to connect to Magento, a PHP ecommerce platform, web services using Java.  It was kind of difficult to get the classes generated from the WSDL so I figured I would throw the results up on my github account for any other poor sap in a similar position. First, pull down the project using git: git clone git://github.com/webdevwilson/magento-java.git and build it with maven: mvn install Here is a quick example of how to pull an order using the generated classes: MagentoServiceLocator serviceLocator = new MagentoServiceLocator(); String url = "http://domain.com/index.php/api/v2_soap"; Mage_Api_Model_Server_V2_HandlerPortType port = serviceLocator.getMage_Api_Model_Server_V2_HandlerPort(url); String sessionId = port.login("username", "key"); SalesOrderEntity salesOrder = port.salesOrderInfo(sessionId, orderId); I also have some wrapper code in there that makes it a little easier to call the API. Checkout the project at https://github.com/webdevwilson/magento-java There is another option. it’s called Magja and it is located at google code.

  • Java code generation from class diagram

    - by Sanjay
I'm on the way developing a Java application where user can provide a class diagram and get the corresponding Java code. I don't know how can I let the user interactively draw a class diagram in Java. I am currently getting the required parameters like attributes, functions directly from the user, and then I render a class diagram for him. I show the class diagram on a jdialog. Is there a better way to do this? This is an example of a class diagram, I need to generate this from a Java program, given the values and relationship.

  • Stupid Geek Tricks: Change Your IP Address From the Command Line in Linux

    - by Taylor Gibb
Almost everybody can figure out how to change their IP address using an interface, but did you know you can set your network card’s IP address using a simple command from the command line? Changing Your IP From the Command Line in Linux Note: This will work on all Debian based Linux Distro’s. To get started type ifconfig into the terminal and hit enter, take note of the name of the interface that you want to change the settings for. To change the settings, you also use the ifconfig command, this time with a few parameters: sudo ifconfig eth0   192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 That’s about all all you need to do to change your IP, of course the above command assumes a few things: The interface that you want to change the IP for is eth0 The IP you want to give the interface is 192.168.0.1 The Subnet Mask you want to set for the interface is 255.255.255.0 If you run ifconfig again you will see that your interface has now taken on the new settings you assigned to it. If you wondering how to change the Default Gateway, you can use the route command. sudo route add default gw 192.168.0.253 eth0 Will set your Default Gateway on the eth0 interface to 192.168.0.253. To see your new setting, you will need to display the routing table. route -n That’s all there is to it. • Java or Python for internet application?

    - by jpartogi
In choosing a technology for internet applications where the number of users may scale over time, which one should we consider: Java or Python? What are the considerations in choosing one and not the other? If speed and scalability is our main criteria, which one should we use? We have looked around and it seems that there are more websites that use Python [i.e : Quora, digg, reddit, bitbucket and disqus] than Java. Based on that, can we say that Python is more suitable for internet applications where speed and scalability is the main criteria? However we have browsed around and found some comments saying that Java is actually faster than Python. Thank you for your insights.

  • Submitting Java Code with Junit unit test

    - by LivingThing
I have mostly work on simple java programs and compiled and run it with eclipse on Windows. So, i have no experience of using command prompt for compiling Java projects and do not have much info about what actually happens beneath the play button in Eclipse. Now i have to submit a Java application which will have basic operation on XML. My project also will have (JUnit) Unit Test. My question is related to submission of this Project. Which files would be necessary to submit the code. So, it executes properly? Does chosing eclipse as an IDE or junit as a unit testing framweork produces any dependenices i.e the executor of the program should have eclipse/libraries to execute the program on his machine?

  • what is best book to learn optimized programming in java [closed]

    - by Abhishek Simon
Possible Duplicate: Is there a canonical book for learning Java as an experienced developer? Let me elaborate a little: I used to be a C/C++ programmer where I used data structure concept like trees, queues stack etc and tried to optimize as much as possible, minimum no. of loops, variables and tried to make it efficient. It's been a couple of years that I started writing java codes, but it is simply not that efficient in terms of performance, memory intensive etc. To the point: I want to enter programming challenges using java so I need to improve my approach at things I program. So please suggest me some books that can help me learn to program better and have a chance in solving challenges in programming.

It’s strangely not advertised as a feature, even though other voice command and speech recognition programs are hundreds of dollars. It may not be as perfect as some of them, but there’s definitely something amazing about vocally telling your computer to do things and it actually working Latest Features How-To Geek ETC How To Create Your Own Custom ASCII Art from Any Image How To Process Camera Raw Without Paying for Adobe Photoshop How Do You Block Annoying Text Message (SMS) Spam? • Java 8 for Tablets, Pis, and Legos at Silicon Valley JUG - 8/20/2014

    - by hinkmond
A bunch of people attended the Silicon Valley Java Users Group meeting last night and saw Stephen Chin talk about "Java 8 for Tablets, Pis, and Legos". I was there and thought Stephen's presentation and demos were very cool as always. Here are some photos (mostly taken by Arun) from last night. See: Photos from SV JUG 8/20/2014 The most interesting combination of the topics from last night (to me at least) is to combine Lambdas from Java SE Embedded 8 with running on an embedded device like the Raspberry Pi, or even better on an i.MX6 target device with a quad-core processor. Lambdas and Embedded, now that's a cool combo... Hinkmond

  • Are Java certifications important for an architect role?

    - by Tahir Akram
My this question is career path related. I want to know how much Java Certifications (SCJP, SCWCD and others) are important for an architect position. If a person posses a good experience in Java development and want to pursue his career on architect level, do you guys think he need to have certification on his CV. If he has never worked on lead developer roles? If you conducting my interview for an architect position. And I have worked as a Java web developer in different teams having 5 years of exp. Never lead any. And I am having certification badges on my CV. How can a developer make his career path towards being an architect in a team?

  • Is Java easy decompilation a factor worth considering

    - by Sandra G
We are considering the programming language for a desktop application with extended GUI use (tables, windows) and heavy database use. We considered Java for use however the fact that it can be decompiled back very easily into source code is holding us back. There are of course many obfuscators available however they are just that: obfuscators. The only obfuscation worth doing we got was stripping function and variables names into meaningless letters and numbers so that at least stealing code and renaming it back into something meaningful is too much work and we are 100% sure it is not reversible back in any automated way. However as it concerns to protecting internals (like password hashes or sensible variables content) we found obfuscators really lacking. Is there any way to make Java applications as hard to decode as .exe counterparts? And is it a factor to consider when deciding whether to develop in Java a desktop application?

  • E-books make smart kids using Java ME mobile phones

    - by hinkmond
Worldreader has been distributing e-books on Kindle devices to children in sub-Saharan Africa to teach the students how to read. But now, Worldreader has also created a Java ME app that helps even more students in developing countries to have access to free books. See: Reaching more students w/Java ME Here's a quote: In many African countries, 80 percent of the population owns a cell phone. Up to now, Worldreader has focused on distributing Kindles to classrooms (the organization’s founder is former Amazon exec, but by making e-books available via cell phones the organization can reach a much wider group of readers. Using technology to teach kids how to read in developing nations is a good way to use mobile devices like Java ME feature phones--a lot better than trying to slingshot cartoon angry birds at green pigs on those other platforms, doncha think?
