  • How can I deny users to add/modify/remove printers to cups ?

    Hi, I am using Mac OS X 10.6. I wrote a program which will add and remove printers to a CUPS server using libcups. It works, but now I am considering the security aspects. This program takes a user name and password to authenticate on the CUPS server. Whatever user name and password I use, it works as long as it is valid on the system. How do I restrict access to only a specific user ? Regards Alan

  • Cannot use scp on Mac OS X

    Hi all, when I try to copy any file with scp on Mac OS X Snow Leopard from another machine I get this error: scp [email protected]:/home/me/file.zip . Password: ... ---> Couldn't open /dev/null: Permission denied this is the output of "ls -l /dev/null": crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 3, 2 May 14 14:10 /dev/null I am in the group wheel, and even if I do "sudo scp..." it doesn't work. It's driving me crazy, do you have any suggestion? Thanx!

    I am trying to setup my dev environment on my Mac (running Mac OS X 10.6) for my work's rails application. It requires FreeImage and now that I have installed that, I run rake db:migrate and receive the following error: dyld: lazy symbol binding failed: Symbol not found: _FreeImage_SetOutputMessage Referenced from: /Users/username/.ruby_inline/Inline_ImageScience_cdab.bundle Expected in: flat namespace dyld: Symbol not found: _FreeImage_SetOutputMessage Referenced from: /Users/username/.ruby_inline/Inline_ImageScience_cdab.bundle Expected in: flat namespace Trace/BPT trap I have tried searching around for the error but am at a complete loss as to where to go or what to try in order to resolve this issue.

    On Tiger, I used a custom python installation to evaluate newer versions and I did not have any problems with that*. Now Snow Leopard is a little more up-to-date and by default ships with $ ls /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/ 2.3 2.5 2.6 @Current What could be considered best practice? Using the python shipped with Mac OS X or a custom compiled version in, say $HOME. Are there any advantages/disadvantages using the one option over the other? My setup was fairly simple so far and looked like this: Custom compiled Python in $HOME and a $PATH that would look into $HOME/bin first, and subsequently would use my private Python version. Also $PYTHONPATH pointed to this local installation. This way, I did not need to sudo–install packages - virtualenv took care of the rest.

  • How do I delete folders in bash after successful copy (Mac OSX)?

    Hello! I recently created my first bash script, and I am having problems perfecting it's operation. I am trying to copy certain folders from one local drive, to a network drive. I am having the problem of deleting folders once they are copied over, well and also really verifying that they were copied over). Is there a better way to try to delete folders after rsync is done copying? I was trying to exclude the live tv buffer folder, but really, I can blow it away without consequence if need be.   • One iPhone, two developer machines

    Hi all, I switch between my iMac and MacBook when working on my apps. I've always used my iMac to test the apps on the actual device, but I would like to be able to do this from both computers. I cannot seem to use the profile on my MacBook as it does not have the correct Certificate Signing Request in the KeyChain. Is there a way to copy these between machines and KeyChains? :)

    I have the following file structure (XML files 'index.xml' in nested folders): index.xml foo/index.xml foo/sub/index.xml foo/.../index.xml bar/.../index.xml Now I have to transform each of this XML files with a given XSL stylesheet.     I am an experienced iPhone dev beginning to work on my first Mac app. One thing that is really throwing me off is the differences between UIView and NSView. It seems that I cannot set the background color of a NSView via interface builder as I can with a UIView. It also seems that I cannot do it by simply sending a setBackgroundColor: message to it. All the examples I have seen are overriding drawRect: in a subclass of NSView. Is that really the only way to do it? What is the conceptual difference here, and why is it this way? NOTE: I am only trying to set the background color to the default grey.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

  • double click and select the path(including '/') in Terminal.app

    I'm using Terminal.app on Mac OS10.6.3, with gnu screen and zsh. What I want to do is, see pwd(or an URL) in Terminal.app and double click on it, and select the whole path, to copy and paste after that. But what I get now is a single directory name, because '/' is not treated as a word. I found that iTerm has a setting to change it(iTerm - Preferences - Mouse - Characters considered part of a word), but is there any way to do this on my environment?
