  • Issues with rake after installing FreeImage on Mac OS X 10.6

    I am trying to setup my dev environment on my Mac (running Mac OS X 10.6) for my work's rails application. It requires FreeImage and now that I have installed that, I run rake db:migrate and receive the following error: dyld: lazy symbol binding failed: Symbol not found: _FreeImage_SetOutputMessage Referenced from: /Users/username/.ruby_inline/Inline_ImageScience_cdab.bundle Expected in: flat namespace dyld: Symbol not found: _FreeImage_SetOutputMessage Referenced from: /Users/username/.ruby_inline/Inline_ImageScience_cdab.bundle Expected in: flat namespace Trace/BPT trap I have tried searching around for the error but am at a complete loss as to where to go or what to try in order to resolve this issue.

  • How can I deny users to add/modify/remove printers to cups ?

    Hi, I am using Mac OS X 10.6. I wrote a program which will add and remove printers to a CUPS server using libcups. It works, but now I am considering the security aspects. This program takes a user name and password to authenticate on the CUPS server. Whatever user name and password I use, it works as long as it is valid on the system.     On Tiger, I used a custom python installation to evaluate newer versions and I did not have any problems with that*. Now Snow Leopard is a little more up-to-date and by default ships with $ ls /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/ 2.3 2.5 2.6 @Current What could be considered best practice? Using the python shipped with Mac OS X or a custom compiled version in, say $HOME. Are there any advantages/disadvantages using the one option over the other? My setup was fairly simple so far and looked like this: Custom compiled Python in $HOME and a $PATH that would look into $HOME/bin first, and subsequently would use my private Python version. Also $PYTHONPATH pointed to this local installation. This way, I did not need to sudo–install packages - virtualenv took care of the rest.

  • DrawRect on the iPhone vs. the Mac

    I am an experienced iPhone dev beginning to work on my first Mac app. One thing that is really throwing me off is the differences between UIView and NSView. It seems that I cannot set the background color of a NSView via interface builder as I can with a UIView. It also seems that I cannot do it by simply sending a setBackgroundColor: message to it. All the examples I have seen are overriding drawRect: in a subclass of NSView. Is that really the only way to do it? What is the conceptual difference here, and why is it this way? NOTE: I am only trying to set the background color to the default grey.

  • How do I delete folders in bash after successful copy (Mac OSX)?

    Hello! I recently created my first bash script, and I am having problems perfecting it's operation. I am trying to copy certain folders from one local drive, to a network drive. I am having the problem of deleting folders once they are copied over, well and also really verifying that they were copied over). Is there a better way to try to delete folders after rsync is done copying? I was trying to exclude the live tv buffer folder, but really, I can blow it away without consequence if need be.   • One iPhone, two developer machines

    Hi all, I switch between my iMac and MacBook when working on my apps. I've always used my iMac to test the apps on the actual device, but I would like to be able to do this from both computers. I cannot seem to use the profile on my MacBook as it does not have the correct Certificate Signing Request in the KeyChain. Is there a way to copy these between machines and KeyChains? :)

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

  • CALayer not obeying object ownership rules?

    I have a custom CALayer - UIProgressLayer - for simulating a progress bar. There is a dispatched GC timer involved to animate its intermediate state. So thats the layer I'm talking about here, although i don't think the problem is restricted to this particular subclass because a CALayer with only the -release and -dealloc overridden produces the same outcome. The problem is when i send this layer, for instance, a theLayer.opacity = 0.5f a -release message is sent to the layer, thus deallocating my layer. Why is this happening? Has it something to do with how the whole CA system works? But it still has to obey the object ownership rules right? I was thinking maybe it creates a copy of that layer for the fading, but that's not the case.
