• Forking project on Github etiquette

  There is a project on Github that I mostly like and want to use. There are a few things I want to do differently/remove that doesn't make sense for what I want/need. Also I want to add a few things as well. As I understand it, I should fork the project and I can make whatever changes I want and push back to my fork. From there, I also want to occasionally pull into my fork the changes from the original project so I get the latest bug fixes/features. Am I off-base of how I think it should work? How would bring in the changes from the original project?

• How do I chain forms in Access? (pass values between them)

  Hello, I'm using Access 2007 and have a data model like this... Passenger - Bookings - Destinations So 1 Passenger can have Many Bookings, each for 1 Destinations. My problem... I can create a form to allow the entry of Passenger details, but I then want to add a NEXT button to take me to a form to enter the details of the Booking (i.e. just a simple drop list of the Destinations). I've added the NEXT button and it has the events of RunCommand SaveRecord OpenForm Destination_form BUT, I cant work out how to pass accross to the new form the primary key of the passenger that was just entered (PassengerID). I'd really like to have just one form, and that allow the entry of the Passenger details and the selection of a Destination, that then creates the entries in the 2 Tables (Passenger & Bookings), but I can't get that to work either.   Hi, I have two identical databases with same structure, database a in computer a and database b in computer b. The data of database a*(a.accdb)* and database b*(b.accdb)* are different. then in database a i have for example ID:1, 2, 3 and in database B i Have ID:4,5,6 Then i need merge these databases data in only one database(a or b, doesn't matter) so the final database looks like. ID:1,2,3,4,5,6 I search an easy way to do this. because i have many tables. and do this by union query is so tedious. I search for example for a backup option for only data without scheme as in postgreSQl or many others RDBMS, but i don't see this options in access 2007. pd:only just table could be have duplicate values(I guess that pk doesn't allow copy a duplicate value and all others values will be copied well). if i wrong please correct me. thanks for your help.

  I was using a combobox on my search form to select whether to consult or modify a record. To make it more user friendly (IMO), I put a togglebutton on a form, which controls the .AllowEdits property of my form. This way you can easily switch from reading to writing. However I run into a problem; once .AllowEdits is switched to false, the togglebutton is not clickable anymore ! What are my options ?

  I am being offered - as a final year project - to do a Company Website. This is basically an out-house project and I am not completely sure whether I should take it. The requirements are : Company Information User Registration Order placements. The technologies that I should use are PHP, Javascript, HTML, CSS and maybe Java Servlets. This appears to me a very basic project and I need an opinion as to what effect it might have on my CV. Is it worth to do it? • Implementing the NetBeans Project API on Maven in IntelliJ IDEA

However, he's using Maven and IntelliJ IDEA and one of the features he needs is project support, i.e., the project infrastructure that's part of NetBeans IDE. However, an additional step of complexity is added when IntelliJ IDEA is included into the mix and therefore I created the following screencast which, in 15 minutes, puts all the pieces together. Be aware that I'm probably not using IntelliJ IDEA and Maven as optimally as I could and I'm publishing this at least partly so that the errors of my ways can be pointed out to me. • How can I make Access combo boxes unfurl on arrow key down?

  With combo box controls, I'm used to being able tab to them, click the down arrow key to open up the options, and then use the up and down arrow keys to navigate those options. In an Access form I've designed, pressing down while a combo box is active moves to the next control. I already have tab for that, so how can I get the down arrow to behave as I expect? These combo boxes are the only thing between me and a mouse-free form, which I consider essential for data entry. Thanks in advance for your help!

• Dropdown in Access 2007 parameter query. Why not working

  Hello, I want a Access parameter query to ask an user for a value (a location in this case). When I type [Enter location] in the Criteria field it works fine: I get a dialog box (Enter Parameter Value) with a textbox and my text (Enter Location). So far, so good. This works (the result also). But now I want a dropdown/combobox (instead of a textbox ) for the user to pick a location. I made a form and type Forms![Form1]![CmbLocation] in the Criteria field. Like this: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HA011170771033.aspx But I still get a textbox (with the reference as textlabel). What am I doing wrong? Has anybody any advice?

• Changing jobs and leaving a project without a leader (aka, me)

  I'm the lead on a project that has been underway for about a year and a half. Two of us have been working on it. One is the database guy. I'm the javascript/ui guy. Which is to say, essentially no overlap in code knowledge. Here's the thing. Someone is about to offer me a sweet job with a nearly 30% bump in pay. Though I am perfectly happy with my current job and love the project, the new one would be better and I can't imagine saying no. The big problem is that my project is supposed to go into production starting in a few weeks. I will consider the new guys to have disqualified the new job by being bad people who would ruin my life if they won't cooperate and let me start after deployment. Since they seem like decent, ethical people, I don't expect that to be a problem. The current project will be brutalized by my absence. I take some comfort in the fact that I have emphatically requested an understudy for at least six months. That puts a little of the responsibility on the boss's head, but still, it's going to be a really bad thing. What do others of you do when you are a critical to a project when it's time to move on? Do I owe any obligation to stick around even though something better shows up? I know my spouse would object if I found someone else. Does that apply to work? I do have an understudy now, though he's fresh out of college. He's not going to replace me anytime soon. It's a small shop and the boss is going to be crushed. I am traumatized in anticipation of telling him and feel guilty about the practical consequences. I'm looking for some solace and some strategy about how to deal with this transition. I will insist on a compromise where I finish the current sprint (about a month from now) but there is at least a half year, probably a year of solid, full-time, work still to be done.   Currently I'm developing an application with quickly which is divided in two parts: A graphical UI where the user could configure some things, and a daemon which do the most work in the background. I started with the UI, to create some windows for settings and so on. Now I want to start coding the daemon, but I have no clue how to implement the daemon in my quickly project. Could I simply paste the files of the daemon in project folder or is there an implementation method for adding new files to a quickly project? Or do I have to create a new project and merge them together?

• Access Creates new file every time I Compact & Repair

  It didn't always do this, but ever since I split my database and made the front-end an ACCDE file, any time I try to compact and repair either file, a new file called "Database 1" is generated and my original file size doesn't change. Is this normal? My ACCDB is roughly 20MB, and my ACCDE is just over 1M after being used the first time. Before opening, the ACCDE was only 600k (I have lots of forms and queries, and regularly store PDF attachments.

This project is composed by: Client project: Windows Forms where user will do CRUD operations on the models; Server project; Common Project: This project will hold the models (in the image only have the model Item); ListSingleton: Remote Object that will do the operations on the models; I already have all the communication working, but now I need to work on the persistence of the data in a mysql database. I was trying to use nHibernate but I’m having some troubles. My main problem is how to organize my hibernate configuration. In which project do I keep the mapping? Common project? In which project do I keep the hibernate configuration file (App.config)? ListSingleton project?   SELECT Transactions.TransactionNumber FROM Transactions WHERE (((Transactions.Date)>=#11/23/12#)) AND (((Transactions.Date)<=#11/23/12#)); The above code returns all the transaction that happened between the specified dates. But I want those dates to be defined by the user every time the query is executed. I tried using the [] operators to have the user define the criteria in the WHERE, something like this: WHERE (((Transactions.Date)>=[Input a Date])) AND (((Transactions.Date)<=[Input a Date])); But microsoft Access throws a Syntax error message. The same happens when I include the # (date operators) like this WHERE (((Transactions.Date)>=#[Input a Date]#)) AND (((Transactions.Date)<=#[Input a Date]#)); Is there anopther way to manage dates that I'm not aware of or is asking a user for dates in a query out of the question

• Adding new records in Access without wrecking the form

  I'm working on a simple Access 2003 application to keep track of things that need to be done for clients for some colleagues. Each colleague has a set of clients, and each client has a set of actions that need to be taken by a certain date. I've set up a form that consists of a combobox for client ID (indexed), a drop-down for the person who is handling that client's case, and a button for adding new clients (a standard Access-created Add Record button). The actions are listed in a subform below these three elements. The problem I've run into is that the first person I tested this on clicked the button to add a new record, then didn't fill it out and tried to select another client from the drop-down list. Access interprets this as an attempt to set the selected Client ID as the ID for the new record and rightfully throws an error for duplicate primary keys. I can think of a couple of ways around this problem, but I'd much rather hear your elegant solutions than kludge together some junk in a language I don't know. Let me know if you have any questions. • How to encourage domain experts familiar only with C into a C++ opensource project [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to persuade C fanatics to work on my C++ open source project? I am launching an open-source project into a space where a lot of development is done Linux-kernel-style, i.e. C-language with a low-level mindset. My project is broad and complex and uses aspects of the C++ language and libraries, including the Boost library to best effect for simple, slightly syntactically sweetened, elegant and well structured high level code. We are using C++ templates too to avoid duplication of code and for static polymorphism in code specialisation for performance. Many of the experts in this field are well used to pure C-language projects. How can I persuade them to contribute to my idiomatic C++ based project? I have no objection to C-language subcomponents or the use of a C-like subset for parts of the project so that might be part of the answer. This is a rewritten and retagged rehash of my previous question that was closed. Apologies to those who read and answered for it not being constructive. I hope this new question is viewed as constructive. Please note that this is not a language advocacy question and please keep answers in that spirit.
