  • Linux DNS Multi tenant

    I need to setup a multi-tenant DNS solution in Linux DNS Server. Currently I serve multiple companies: Company ABC, Company XYZ, etc... I need to create a) Forwarder zone b) Reverse Forward Zone. I can easily create a Forward Zone with domain abc.com The challenge I have is that each of my customer components share the same IP address. Hence If I create the Reverse Forward Zone I end up with something like this: abc.com 1.1.1.1 host.abc.com xyz.com 1.1.1.1 host.xyz.com If I perform a reverse lookup on host.abc.com it works fine...but if I do a reverse lookup on 1.1.1.1 I get a load balance response of: attempt: host.abc.com attempt: host.xyz.com attempt: host.abc.com Any ideas? I want to add logic to the DNS configuration to handle DNS reverse lookup based on source machine and respond with right hostname. Workaround: Create multiple DNS but this is not scalable.

    I need a way to login multiple users into windows at startup, in (XP/Vista/7) I need for each time windows starts, all registered users will automatically login and starts all apps in their startup folder under their own credentials. Any ideas how I could achieve this? i need a 'cheap' alternative to windows vps. lots of people need vps to run certain apps and leave it running. it's less likely they need full admin access other than installing those apps. instead of each users have their own vps running simple apps, it might be cheaper to have one multi-user server to accomplish this?

  • Migrating Windows XP BOOT.INI Settings to Windows 7 Boot-loader

    Two months ago my motherboard died, so I bought a used computer that came with Windows 7. I have since installed my old hard-drive, which had Windows XP on it, in this system. What I am trying to do now is to figure out a way to migrate the settings from XP's BOOT.INI into 7's boot-loader. Below is the BOOT.INI I used in XP (I have reduced the strings and updated the disks to point to the new location of the old HD. Oh and I am not clear on the drive letters. In XP, I could boot the recovery console or MS-DOS from a file in C:\ that contains the boot-sector. I am not sure what drive letter it would be called now—I had to manually change all the drive letters of the old partitions in Windows 7 because it auto-assigned them all wrong/differently).     have main office pfsense firewall configured like this: local networks WAN - internet LAN - local network VOIP - IP phones need to connect remote offices (multi-users) and single remote users (from home) use IPSEC or OpenVPN to build "permanent" automatically connecting tunnels from remote location to main location. in remote locations, network will look like this: WAN - internet LAN - local network multiple users VOIP - multiple IP phones in order for the IP phones to work they have to be able to "see" the VOIP network and the VOIP server back at the main office for single remote users ( like from home ) the setup will be similar but only one phone and one computer so questions: best way to tie networks together? IPSEC or OpenVPN can this be setup to automatically connect ? any issues/suggestions with that design/topology ? QoS or issues with running the VOIP traffic over a VPN throughput, quality etc.. obviously depends on remote locations connection to some degree

  • Can I use a multi-line function or control flow segment into the PowerShellFar editor console

    If I am running farmanager with FarNet and PowerShellFar I can bring up a console of sorts by selecting F11 | .NET PowerShell | Editor Console. This console is based on the far editor. I can paste snippets of powershell scripts into this console and edit them. The only problem is if I want to use a multi-line function or control flow segment in the console. If I paste it in it has no effect. If I attempt to type one in I get an error similar to: ERROR: IncompleteParseException: Missing closing '}' in statement block.     We have VMWare View 5 set up for a single tenant environment, absolutely brilliant and works perfectly. Two thumbs up there! We're looking at the possibility of deploying this in a multi tenant scenario, where multiple unlinked companies connect to a VDI solution hosted by us but have no visibility of each other. Obviously;y this could be achieved by doubling up on all the components, having a complete VMWare View stack for each tenant, but this seems a little bit messy. Has anyone done this before, and if so how? Googling sheds little light apart from this experts exchange topic.

    I want a cheap multi-function printer for Linux usage. I'm looking for rock solid scanning and printing that works with big images. I'd prefer drivers that are available in Debian, or other drivers that are open source, but will settle for proprietary drivers if they are well contained and clean. Some choices I have are: Samsung SCX-4300 HP LaserJet M1120 MFP Samsung SCX-4500 Canon i-SENSYS MF4010 Brother DCP-7040 I am also interested in opinions what printer communication language is best for Linux usage for cheap printers. PostScript is nice, of course, but low-end PostScript printers often have problems when printing complex (large) PostScript files. It seems Samsung printers use SPL for communication, HP uses XQX and ZJS, then there's ofcourse PCL.

    If this has been asked before I apologize (I did not see it in the "related questions"). What are some good free (yet spyware and adware free) multi-monitor tools? My trial of Ultramon just ran out and (sadly) my boss will not spring for a license. I want features like multiple task bars and Maximized window dragging (and/or other cool features I don't know about). I know that there is at least one out there that is free and allows moving windows easily between monitors. (Cause I had it before, but I can't remember its name.) I want to install it again or something similar/better.

    I'm looking for a utility that will take one large sized PDF, and split it into smaller PDFs for banner/poster printing. Looking for a linux or multi-platform solution. More Background My goal is to take an Inkscape document and generate a PDF, then print it on a printer that doesn't do banner/poster printing automatically - so if there's a better solution, I'd be happy to hear that as well. I've found exporting as a PNG both takes a while, and sometimes blends are not preserved. Printing as PDF (Ubuntu print-to-file) seems to work well. I've found utilities that can take large images formats and generate multipage PDFs, but not PDF to PDF.

    A few years back, I saw an open-source application that created fault-tolerant, multi-CD backup sets. The thought was that if a few sectors went bad on one CD, the data could be reconstructed from others similar to a RAID 5 hard-drive setup. I did some searching and I could not find the application again. Does anyone know of a application that works in this manner. It needs to work with both CDs & DVDs. Linux or Windows will be OK.

  • Dell Multi-Monitor Hub: true DisplayPort splitting?

    In my search for a new display, I came across the Dell Multi-Monitor Hub MMH11, which seemed to be an alternative to my search for daisy-chainable DisplayPort displays. However, before I cave and spend $179 on this device, I am wondering if this will be similar to other splitting devices where it appears to the computer as one big monitor and the device does the splitting (which I don't want). Or, does this use the packet-based nature of DisplayPort to present two/three separate displays to the computer? Also, would this device work on my MacBook Pro? (I know the Dell site says it's for Windows, but it also says that no driver installation is required. I'd assume since the MBP supports DP 1.2 it would work, but it's better to ask). Thanks!

  • USB Hub powers down in sleep mode on Win 7 64

    This question has been asked before but not answered. I would like the USB hub to remain on in sleep so I can wake up the laptop from an external keyboard and mouse. I have set all the device drivers by unchecking allow this device to be powered down and disabled selective suspend in control panel but the hub still powers down. If I plug a keyboard or mouse directly in to the PC they remain powered and wake the computer its only when they are connected through the hub there is a problem. I have another PC running Win 7 32. If I set this up in exactly the same way the hub remains powered in sleep. Both PC's are Toshiba Satellites with multi-core celerons but one runs Win 7 32 the other Win 7 64. BIOS settings are the same. Any help would be appreciated even confirmation that this is a feature of Win 7 64.

    Hello, Trying to figure out if this is possible... My company has a cms product that was written in Java and we decided to use Wordpress to run blogs for our clients. Obviously, Wordpress does not run on tomcat(at least not by default) so we installed Pound(http://www.apsis.ch/pound/) on our server and have setup any Apache and Tomcat on different ports. When "/blog/" is requested, the request is directed to Apache. This works fine but we would like to use Wordpress multi site so that we can manage all the blogs from a single interface. We would also like the url for every site to be "/blog/" example: http://www.site1.com/blog/ http://www.site2.com/blog/ I'm thinking it would have to be done with apache??? Is it even possible?     I have a growing number of PCs and laptops in my home that need a backup solution. My question is 2 fold: Most commercial backup vendors appear to license by the machine, are there any products that give a license that can be used on all your machines, without a per machine cost? An alternative is to have a centrally controlled back up strategy controlled from a single PC with an attached hard drive that can back up other machines on the network. What backup software is suitable for this approach? Will this software be windows/Linux interoperable? I've searched for duplicate questions but don't see anything that addresses the multi machine/cost issue. OSs in network will be Windows (XP, Vista, 7) and Linux variants. Not pattern to when machines will be switched on.

    This question may be a bit unusual but I think it's an interesting angle: Why does a remote desktop connection to my server with all four of my 30 inch (@2560x1600) monitors work, even though the server doesn't have a graphics card installed? I guess the graphics are perhaps not really rendered on the server? What exactly happens there so that this works? Searching for this I mostly found "how to enable multi monitor support" but not an answer to my question yet. Any links/documentation I can read to understand this better? (To get all four monitors working well on my local machine the one graphics card I had wasn't even enough, so I have two graphics cards on the local machine now) The operating systems are Windows 7 home premium and it's a Windows Server 2008 R2.

    Can anybody tell me why my wireless router only redirects traffic to ADSL modem when it is on Gateway mode?
