• How to work with XAML editor in Visual Studio 2010?

  I've worked with Visual Studio 2008 and editing XAML was really painful because the designer reloaded very slowly. Now I have installed Visual Studio 2010 and it seems to me that the XAML editor + Designer haven't changed much. For example in order to force designer to change a color in my control I have to close the xaml file and open it again. Is it just my problem? I've tried this solution: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/859335/visual-studio-2008-xaml-editor-not-working-disappeared but it didn't help. Are there any better tools for Visual Studio to edit XAML? Thanks!

  Borland Developer Studio 2006, Delphi: I have a TOLEContainer object with AllowInPlace=False. When the external editor is closed and changed my OLE object I have to do something with this OLE object inside TOLeContainer. The problem is I can't catch a moment when the external editor is closed. OnDeactivate event is not working. Probably I should change the source code of TOLEContainer adding this event myself, but I don't know where is the best place for it. Can you advice some method?

  I was reading this new article on Synthetica and NetBeans RCP this morning, when I remembered this screenshot from Henry Arousell from Sweden: Here, Nimbus is heavily being used, highlighting 6 areas where Henry would really benefit from any help regarding how the foreground properties should be set: The color of the main menu (and its subsequent unfolded menu options) The TopComponent tab colors (as you can see from the screenshot, they've managed to change the foreground colors of the ones in the editor mode by setting the Nimbus property "TextText"). They cannot manipulate TopComponents in other modes, though. Table header foreground colors The foreground color of any provided composite component, like a JFileChooser or the ICEPdf viewer or any other panel with label components. The progress bar message color. AgroSense is an agricultural services platform created in Java on the NetBeans Platform.   I'm simulating a small scenario: Users can be dragged into roles; roles can be dragged into role groups. When a drop is made into a role group, a new role is created (WindowManager.getDefault().setRole("")). Then, when the user logs in, they log into a particular role. Depending on the role they log into, a different role group is assigned, which maps to a certain "role" in NetBeans Platform terms, i.e., the related level of security is applied and the related windows open.

  From the moment I got to the airport in Amsterdam, I've been bumping into JavaOne pilgrims today. Finally got to my hotel, after a pretty good flight (and KLM provides great meals, which helps a lot), and a rather long wait at customs (serves me right for getting seat 66C in a plane with 68 rows). And, best of all, on Twitter I've been seeing a few remarks around the Duke's Choice Awards for this year. The references all point to the September - October issue of the Java Magazine, where page 24 shows the following: So, from page 24 onwards, you can read all about the above applications. What's especially cool is that three of the above are applications created on top of the NetBeans Platform! That's AgroSense (farm management software), MICE (NATO system for defense and battle-space operations), and Level One Registration Tool (UN Refugee Agency sofware for managing refugees). Congratulations to all the winners, looking forward to learning more about them all during the coming days here at the conference.

• Lost in Code?

  Sometimes you're coding and you find yourself forgetting your context. For example, look at this situation: The cursor is on line 52. Imagine you're coding there and you're puzzling on some problem for some time. Wouldn't it be handy to know, without scrolling up (and then back down again to where you were working), what the method signature looks like? And does the method begin two lines above the visible code or 10 lines? That information can now, in NetBeans iDE 7.3 (and already in the 7.3 Beta) very easily be ascertained, by putting the cursor on the closing brace of the code block: As you can see, a new vertical line is shown parallel to the line numbers, connecting the end of the method with its start, as well as, at the top of the editor, the complete method signature, together with the number of the line on which it's found. Very handy. Same support is found for other file types, such as in JavaScript files.

• SQL Developer Database Diff – Compare Objects From Multiple Schemas

  Ever wonder why Database Diff isn’t called Schema Diff? One reason is because SQL Developer allows you select objects from more than one schema in the ‘Source’ connection for the compare. Simply use the ‘More’ dialog view and select as many tables from as many different schemas as you require Now, before you get around to testing this – as you should never believe what I say, trust but verify – two things you need to know: I’m using SQL Developer version 3.2 On the initial screen you need to use the ‘Maintain’ option Maintain tells SQL Developer to use the schema designation in the source connection to find the same corresponding object in the destination schema. Choose ‘maintain’ if you want to compare objects in the same schema in the destination but don’t have the user login for that schema. So after you’ve selected your databases, your diff preferences, and your objects – you’re ready to perform the compare and review your results. The DIFF Report Notice the highlighted text, SQL Developer is ‘maintaining’ the Schema context from the two databases. Short and sweet. That’s pretty much all there is to doing a compare with SQL Developer with multiple schemas involved. You may have noticed in some posts lately that my editor screenshots had a ‘green screen’ look and feel to them. What’s with the black background in your editors? In the SQL Developer preferences, you can set your editor color schemes. I started with the ‘Twilight’ scheme (team Jacob in case you’re wondering) and then customized it further by going with a default green font color. The way I'm developing is very counter-productive because every mistake I fix I have to shutdown Glassfish, re-build the app and re-deploy it. My app is a Java back-end with REST services and the Html, JavaScript, CSS for the frontend. Everything is packed in a .ear file. As of right now, I'm just working with the frontend but I do have to make this whole process to update the files. My question is ... is there a better way of doing this? Can somebody tell how do you guys work in a similar setup to do the everyday development?

• Hide collision layer in libgdx with TiledMap?

  I'm making a 2D game with libgdx, and I'm using its TileMapRenderer to render my map which I have made in the map editor Tiled. In Tiled I have a dedicated collision layer. However, I can't figure out how I'm supposed to hide it and its tiles in the game. This is how a map is loaded: TiledMap map = TiledLoader.createMap(Gdx.files.internal("maps/map.tmx")); TileAtlas atlas = new TileAtlas(map, Gdx.files.internal("maps")); tileMapRenderer = new TileMapRenderer(map, atlas, 32, 32); Currently the collision tiles are rendered on top of everything else, as I see them in the map editor.

• Starcraft 2 - Third Person Custom Map

  I would like to try my hand at creating a custom map in Starcraft 2 that has a third-person camera follow an individual unit. There are a few custom maps that exist with this feature already, so I do know this is possible. What I'm having trouble wrapping my head around are the features that are new to the SC2 map editor that didn't exist in the Warcraft 3 editor. For instance, to do a third-person map, do I need a custom mods file, or can everything be done in the map file? Regardless, is it worth using a mod file? What map settings do I NEED to edit/implement? Which are not necessary, but recommended?

• Braces (syntax) highlighting in OpenOffice Math formula text editor

  When you use OpenOffice Math, in upper part you see formula and formula text editor in lower part. Almost like this: %sigma = 2 %mu %epsilon + %lambda Tr(%epsilon)I So my questions are: How to replace OpenOffice Math's formula text editor with own text editor? ... or how to enable braces (syntax) highlighting in embedded editor? ... are there any extensions for anything like this? I need this because sometimes it's too much braces and stuff and it's hard to distinguish which braces match each other. Please do not suggest me to use MathType Mathematica (or anything) instead of OpenOffice Math (because I'm almost happy with it:)

• What is the best way to implement paginated text editing in Python?

  I'm trying to build a formatted text editor in python. I need the editor to be paginated on edit mode. Same as in all popular word processors - when the user is editing the document what he/she sees is a representation of the actual, physical, page. I've tried looking into PySide but I can't find any ready solution to this, nor I can work out a way to do it myself. I am totally open to new technologies, so if you think Python is not the right choice here I would love to hear about new stuff (especially when I'm this new to UI coding). It only needs to be cross-platform and let me do rapid development (hence me looking for an out-of-the-box solution to this). Please suggest the best way to implement this. Please also note that I am looking for either a ready solution or an advice on how to tackle this. Thank you very much !

• What's the best language to use for a simple windows 7 dynamic gui desktop app [closed]

  [Note: I hope I am not breaking etiquette, but I originally posted a variant on this question here, but am re-asking here because I am making this now solely a question about programming.] I would like to program of the following simple form: The user can produce X number of resizable frames (analogous to HTML frames). Each frame serves as a simple text editor, which you can type into and save the whole configuration including resized windows and text. The user should be able alternately "freeze" and present the information, and "unfreeze" and edit frames. Thus it will be a cross between a calendar and a text editor. I don't particularly care if it is a web application or not. What languages are ideal for such a setup? I know some C and Python and Html, and am willing to learn others if need be. It seems to me this should be a relatively easy program to make, but I need a little direction before starting. EDIT: My OS is Windows 7.
