  Today Oracle University announces the release of new Oracle Database 12c Administrator certifications. The new Oracle Database 12c certifications emphasize the foundational and advanced skills needed by Database Administrators and will prepare DBAs to leverage powerful new management and consolidation capabilities, resulting in an even more valuable credential for customers and partners. ORACLE CERTIFIED ASSOCIATE (OCA)  The Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) for Oracle Database 12c objectives measure IT professionals' mastery of day-to-day administration skills and their ability to manage the challenges they're likely to encounter on the job. This credential focuses on SQL skills, operational administration of the Oracle Database including performance and space management, and installing, patching and upgrading the Oracle Database. Earning the OCA credential requires successful completion of two exams: 1Z0-061 - Oracle Database 12c: SQL Fundamentals and 1Z0-062 - Oracle Database 12c: Installation and Administration. The OCA certification track also allows for several alternate exams which can be substituted for 1Z0-061. • New Process For Receiving Oracle Certification Exam Results

  On November 15, 2012, Oracle Certification exam results will be available directly from Oracle's certification portal, CertView. After completing an exam at a testing center, you will login to CertView to access and print your exam scores by selecting the See My New Exam Results Now link or the Print My New Exam Results Now link from the homepage. This will provide access to all certification and exam history in one place through Oracle, providing tighter integration with other activities at Oracle. This change in policy will also increase security around data privacy. AUTHENTICATE YOUR CERTVIEW ACCOUNT NOW One very important step you must take is to authenticate your CertView account BEFORE taking your exam. This way, if there are any issues with authorization, you have time to get these sorted out before testing. Keep in mind that it can take up to 3 business days for a CertView account to be manually authenticated, so completing this process before testing is key! You will need to create a web account at PearsonVUE prior to registering for your exam and you will need to create an Oracle Web Account prior to authenticating your CertView account. The CertView account will be available for authentication within 30 minutes of creating a Pearson VUE web account at certview.oracle.com. GETTING YOUR EXAM RESULTS FROM ORACLE Before taking the scheduled exam, you should authenticate your account at certview.oracle.com using the email address and Oracle Testing ID in your Pearson VUE profile. • How to Disable the New Geolocation Feature in Google Chrome

  The latest release of Google Chrome has geolocation enabled by default, and if you are worried about privacy or just don’t want websites to prompt you for your location, we’ve got the quick details on how to turn it off. Readers should note that the new Geolocation feature doesn’t give out your details by default, so don’t panic. It’s also only active, at the time of this writing, in the Dev channel builds of Chrome—so if you are using the regular stable build this feature won’t arrive for a while anyway. Note: If you’re a Firefox user, be sure to check out our guide to disabling geolocation in Firefox 3.x. What’s this Geolocation Feature About? Geolocation is a way for your browser to tell a website about your physical location, so you can get results tailored to where you actually are—for example, if you visited Google Maps it can ask you for your location to give you an accurate picture of where you are. To use this feature in Google Maps, you would click on the small white icon to activate the feature. As soon as you have clicked on the small white icon, a thin green toolbar will appear at the top of the webpage, asking to Allow or Deny.   How to Turn Chrome’s Geolocation Off If you want to turn geolocation off you will need to open the “Chrome Options Window”, navigate to the third tab, and click on the “Content settings… ” button. When the “Content Settings Window” opens go to the “Location Tab” and select “Do not allow any site to track my physical location”. Once that is done close out the “Content Settings & Chrome Options Windows”. When you go back to Google Maps and try using the small white icon again this is the message that you will see at the top of the page. Now that is much better! If you are unhappy with geolocation being enabled by default in the latest Dev Channel release then this will help get the problem sorted out nicely. Here is some of what we did during the past few months.   1) Zooming&Scrolling and the new sampling engine: Without a doubt one of the most important things we did. This new feature allows you to bind your chart to a very large set of data with blazing performance. Dont take my word for it give it a try!   2) New Smart Label Positioning and Spider-like labels feature: This new feature really helps with very busy graphs. You can play with the different settings we offer in this example.   3) Sorting and Filtering. Much like our RadGridview control the chart now allows you to sort and filter your data out of the box with a single line of code!   4) Legend improvements Weve also been paying attention to those of you who wanted a much improved legend. It is now possible to customize the look and feel of legend items and legend position with a single click.   5) Custom palette brushes. You have told us that you want to easily customize all palette colors using a single clean API from both XAML and code behind. The new custom palette brushes API does exactly that.   There are numerous other improvements as well, as much improved themes, performance optimizations and other features that we did. • New TPerlRegEx Compatible with Delphi XE

  The new RegularExpressionsCore unit in Delphi XE is based on the PerlRegEx unit that I wrote many years ago. Since I donated full rights to a copy rather than full rights to the original, I can continue to make my version of TPerlRegEx available to people using older versions of Delphi. I did make a few changes to the code to modernize it a bit prior to donating a copy to Embarcadero. The latest TPerlRegEx includes those changes. This allows you to use the same regex-based code using the RegularExpressionsCore unit in Delphi XE, and the PerlRegEx unit in Delphi 2010 and earlier. If you’re writing new code using regular expressions in Delphi 2010 or earlier, I strongly recomment you use the new version of my PerlRegEx unit. If you later migrate your code to Delphi XE, all you have to do is replace PerlRegEx with RegularExrpessionsCore in the uses clause of your units. If you have code written using an older version of TPerlRegEx that you want to migrate to the latest TPerlRegEx, you’ll need to take a few changes into account. The original TPerlRegEx was developed when Borland’s goal was to have a component for everything on the component palette. So the old TPerlRegEx derives from TComponent, allowing you to put it on the component palette and drop it on a form. The new TPerlRegEx derives from TObject. It can only be instantiated at runtime. If you want to migrate from an older version of TPerlRegEx to the latest TPerlRegEx, start with removing any TPerlRegEx components you may have placed on forms or data modules and instantiate the objects at runtime instead. When instantiating at runtime, you no longer need to pass an owner component to the Create() constructor. Simply remove the parameter. Some of the property and method names in the original TPerlRegEx were a bit unwieldy. These have been renamed in the latest TPerlRegEx. Essentially, in all identifiers SubExpression was replaced with Group and MatchedExpression was replaced with Matched. This new feature moves GoldenGate’s capture capabilities closer to the Oracle Database engine and is the foundation for Oracle GoldenGate on the Oracle Database platform over the long term. It is important to note that Integrated Capture does not replace our classic Capture process. Both are available on the Oracle Database platform. The Integrated Capture mechanism relies on Oracle’s internal log parsing and processing to capture DML transactions. By moving closer to the Oracle Database engine, Oracle GoldenGate can take advantage of new Oracle Database features and functionality more quickly. For example, this new mechanism allows GoldenGate to support advanced features such as compression. Integrated Capture provides support for all flavors of Oracle compression, including hybrid columnar compression (EHCC) on Exadata, where as our “Classic” capture would not. Integrated Capture supports two different deployment configurations; On-Source and Downstream. The on-source deployment model is what most customers are familiar with. Oracle GoldenGate is executing on the database server capturing changes in real time. This is the default deployment method. The other option is downstream, where the source database and the Oracle GoldenGate Capture process are on different machines. This method effectively off-loads the processing requirements to a second machine. • Turn Chrome’s New Tab Page into an Ubuntu Forums Powerhouse

  There’s a lot of start page plug-ins for Google Chrome, but if you’re an Ubuntu Forums enthusiast, you might be interested in the powerful UbuntuForums.org Start Page extension. Using the Ubuntu Forums Chrome Start Page Once you’ve installed the extension and opened a new tab, you’ll notice quite a difference from the boring default “New Tab Page”. While you may look at this and wonder if what you see is all that there is to it, there’s actually a lot of hidden customization and functionality. The upper left corner is where you will control the content displayed in the “Ubuntu New Tab Page”. The “Buttons Toolbar” that you see at the top lets you shift between the types of content viewed, from RSS feeds to bookmarks and more. This entire set of links provides direct links to the appropriate section in the Ubuntu Forums. As with the set of links pictured above each of these will open in a new tab when clicked on. There’s even a feature to browse wallpapers from DesktopNexus with categories on the left and pictures to the right. If you want to return to the regular layout you should use the “Start Page Link” highlighted here. Options The options will allow you to customize the colors shown in the “Ubuntu New Tab Page” to create a very nice match to your current browser and/or system theme if desired. You can also do some customization to the fonts, “Bookmark Shortcuts”, and populate the “Custom Links Section” in the main page. Conclusion If you are an Ubuntu enthusiast then this will be a very useful extension to add to your browser. The wealth of direct links and built-in functionality make this extension worth trying. • new installation won't sync directories with my account

  I had a dual-boot arrangement on my desktop with 12.04 and 12.10 (testing). Last week, I managed to trash both and ended up re-installing both. After doing all the updates, I activated Ubuntu-one which worked just fine on the previous installations. On both 12.04 and 12.10, the Ubuntu-One window fails to show the folders for syncing and only syncs the Ubuntu-One folder. Adding a folder on my net book on which sync is working properly brings up a pop up on my desktop that tells me a new folder is available for syncing - but the Ubuntu window fails to show it. I have put a screenshot from my net book (working OK) and one from my desktop which shows the problem. Any suggestions please?

It will also be available via the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud with the November update in about 1 week. This is a maintenance release that fixes a number of bugs. You can find more information on the contents of this release in the change log. You will find binaries for the new release on My Oracle Support. • Where must i focus [on hold]

  i have been working in technology field for last 7 years. i started with vb.net windows application along with oracle plsql. Later on i did projects that included coding in java ,struts framework ,javascripts. I have lost interest in doing projects with struts framework and doesn't find oracle plsql appealing too. I would love to work with new technologies especially mobile techs and my interests in coding persists still. But i am not sure if my organisation will ever shift its tech base to new and modern frameworks. Now i am 25 years old and worried about taking the right decision. i feel like quitting the job but at the same time i am concerned if i have the sufficient tech skills to start working on modern technologies in other organisations. Also i am confused if i must stick to the same company and wait for management jobs. Kindly suggest your opinions on the right strategy i must opt , being a 25 year old with this background.

• How to create a new LaTeX command that behaves something like \verb?

  I have been using LaTeX from sometime now, but have never actually gotten my hands dirty declaring a new command, as I try to avoid that. However, I need to add monospace text often in my document and I use \verb for it which is fine, except that the verb font size is bigger than the normal text font. So I need to change the font size and undo done like \small{}\verb#My monospace code#\normalsize{}. This is not very convenient and mistake-prone. Is there a better way to do this? Can I define a new command for this? How?

  I have parent window (opener) and child (popup) ---------- -------------- | | | | | parent | -----> opens popup | child | | | | | ----------- -------------- Let's say, in parent page, I have js function hello() In order for child to call parent's hello() when the child window is closed and also pass an argument, I can do, window.close(); window.opener.hello(someArgument); This will close the window and also call parent's hello(); But what if I don't want to have the code window.opener.hello() in child page? I mean I want the code to be in parent page only One thing I can think of is: Somewhat parent knows when the child is closed (event listenr??? not sure in js) But in such case how to receive the argument? (i.e. some data back from the child)

• c# resize window over display resolution

  I am total newbie in .Net programming so be patient, please ;-). I have problem with resizing window. I want to resize from my app other app's window and take screenshot of it. I do resizing based on this example: http://blogs.geekdojo.net/richard/archive/2003/09/24/181.aspx. But I have a problem. I work on a laptop with 1024x640 pixels screen resolution but I want to resize my window to 1200x1600 px. I can't do that couse display limitations. Is there any tricky solution to resize window for this resolution and take a screenshot of whole window? I've alos tried Sdesk program witch is suggested here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/445893/create-window-larger-than-desktop-display-resolution. Any help?

  When the following XAML used, the window size is not 5000x5000, but some small window where the button is cropped. <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" > <Button Width="5000" Height="5000">XXX</Button> </Window> From what I can tell, size I did not specify the SizeToContent attribute, the default is "Manual", so it will use *size of a window is determined by other properties, including Width, Height, MaxWidth, MaxHeight, MinWidth, and MinHeight. * From the WPF Windows Overview, it seems those other properties are FrameworkElement::MinHeight/Width, and FrameworkElement::MaxHeight. But since the default for the Mins are 0, the Maxs are Infinity and the Width/Height is Nan....what's going on? Where is WPF getting the window size? Any pointers to the right direction would be appreciated.

• Identifying that a variable is a new-style class in Python?

  I'm using Python 2.x and I'm wondering if there's a way to tell if a variable is a new-style class? I know that if it's an old-style class that I can do the following to find out. import types class oldclass: pass def test(): o = oldclass() if type(o) is types.InstanceType: print 'Is old-style' else: print 'Is NOT old-style' But I haven't been able to find anything that works for new-style classes. I found this question, but the proposed solutions don't seem to work as expected, because simple values as are identified as classes. import inspect def newclass(object): pass def test(): n = newclass() if inspect.isclass(n): print 'Is class' else: print 'Is NOT class' if inspect.isclass(type(n)): print 'Is class' else: print 'Is NOT class' if inspect.isclass(type(1)): print 'Is class' else: print 'Is NOT class' if isinstance(n, object): print 'Is class' else: print 'Is NOT class' if isinstance(1, object): print 'Is class' else: print 'Is NOT class' So is there anyway to do something like this? • deny iframe javascript to scroll parent window

  I've a site with banner ads, loaded using iframes. The banner ads always scroll the parent window when the banner doesn't complety fit into the visible region. This is really annoying and I'd like to deny the javascript of the iframes to scroll the main window. Here is what I already tried: Move the iframe src code to another domain. Normally js from another domain should not be allowed to access the parent window, is it?! This doesn't work. Overwrite window.moveTo, window.scrollTo, window.scrollBy in parent with my own functions. This doesn't seem to work neither, as none of these functions seems to be called. :-( Any help would be really great :-)

• Cocoa window position anomaly

  Hello everyone, I have a weird problem with positioning a window on screen. I want to center the window on the screen, but i don't know how to do that. Here's what i've got. The window is created from nib by the main controller: IdentFormController *ftf = [[IdentFormController alloc] initWithWindowNibName:@"IdentForm"]; [[ftf window] makeKeyAndOrderFront:self]; Now the IdentFormController has awakeFromNib() method in which it tries to position the window. For the sake of simplicity i've just tried to do setFrameOrigin(NSMakePoint(0, 0)). What happens is as follows: The first time i create this window, everything works as expected. But if i create it again after releasing the previous, it starts appearing at random positions. Why does it do that?

• Correct (pretty) window redraw during the creation

  Does anyone know what is a correct way to redraw window during lengthy initialization operations? Say I have HWND with NULL brush, and it does some not so quick child window initialization (Window initialization is not so quick on Vista and 7, especially on netbooks, even with threaded app). With this config window stays black for half a second on slower laptops. But if I supply window color brush, it seems that there are some sort of child controls or something that draws black squares on top of it, which also seems ugly. Even though the controls are created without WS_VISIBLE initially. Oh, the window has the WS_EX_COMPOSITED style, which should do the double buffering to avoid flicker. But it still behaves ugly. Are there any other tricks I've forgotten, missed?

• Listening to another window resize events in C#

  Hi all I am implementing a small application (observer) that needs to "attach" itself to the bottom of another window (observed). The latter is not a window inside the application. At this moment I solved by getting the hWnd of the window and querying periodically in a thread the location of the observed window, moving the observer window accordingly. However this is a very inelegant solution. What I would like to do is to listen to the resize event of the observed window so that the observer will react only when necessary. I assume I should use a hook, and I found plenty of ways of doing it, but my lack of knowledge of the C WinAPI is blocking me in understanding which hook I need to create and how (pinvoke/parameters/etc). I'm pretty sure this is quite trivial, and some of you familiar with C/C++ and WinAPI will have the answer ready at hand ;) Thanks

• How to access parent window variables from object

  I've got an XHTML 1.1 Strict document that is loading another XHTML 1.1 document in an <object> element (as <iframe> isn't part of the XHTML 1.1 spec). I'm having trouble in IE8 (don't care about 6 or 7) with accessing a javascript variable, Lightbox, in the parent window, from the document loaded in the <object>. In Firefox and everywhere I've seen online, I can just use window.parent.Lightbox. In IE8 however, I get it being undefined. window.parent does give me an object but it doesn't have my Lightbox variable. I've also tried window.Lightbox, window.top.Lightbox, and window.top.document.Lightbox, but all return undefined. I should mention I'm using Javascript to set the data property of the <object> - but I don't see how that could affect anything relevant. What Javascript Fu do I need to do to be able to access my Lightbox variable?

• Using new to allocate an array of class elements with an overloaded constructor in C++.

  As an example say I have a class foo that does not have a default constructor but one that looks like this foo:foo(int _varA,int _varB) { m_VarA = _varA; m_VarB = _varB; } How would I allocate an array of these. I seem to remember trying somthing like this unsuccessfully. foo* MyArray = new foo[100](25,14). I don't think this will work either. foo* MyArray = new foo[100](25,14) Can this be done? I typically do this by writing the default constructor using some preset values for _varA and _varB. Then adding a function to reset _varA and _varB for each element but that will not work for this case. Thanks for the help.
