• FrameworkFolders support for WebCenter Portal

  Oracle WebCenter Content Server includes components that provide a hierarchical folder interface, similar to a conventional file system, for organizing and managing some or all of the content in the repository. We used Contribution Folders (folders_g) which is being replaced by the new Folders (FrameworkFolders) component. The newer FrameworkFolders component fixes a number of limitations that folders_g had and adds a ton of new features. If you have played with the WebCenter Content mobile app, you will notice that it uses FrameworkFolders too. WebCenter Portal requires the use of the folders_g component. Given the fact that folders_g and FrameworkFolders component do not go well together and must never be enabled together on any system, you could never use the new features if you planned to use integrate Content with Portal. I still remember presenting a demo with a colleague for a client and he was showing off the mobile capabilities in Portal (which are pretty impressive by the way) and was getting all the glory; while I was sitting back wanting to show off the Content app but could not (no FrameworkFolders). Not any more; Oracle has released bundle patches for both WebCenter Content and Portal in April 2014 which bring home the support for FrameworkFolders. These patches will bring these products to version 11.1.1.8.3. You can enable support for FrameworkFolders on new Content and Portal installations where the folders_g component has never been enabled using the following patches: Download and apply the WebCenter Content MLR03 patch 18088049. Download and apply the WebCenter Portal BP3 patch 18085041. Download and apply the WebCenterConfigure component patch 18387955. Before applying this patch on the Content Server ensure that WebCenter Content MLR03 patch 18088049 has already been applied. You can find detailed instructions on how to enable FrameworkFolders support in the Oracle® Fusion Middleware Installation Guide for Oracle WebCenter Portal 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.8.3). There may be another bundle patches release (version 11.1.1.8.4) for many FMW products (including WebCenter Portal) in July 2014 which could further enhance the FrameworkFolders support.

  One of the biggest IT challenges facing today’s health care industry is the difficulty finding reliable, secure, and cost-effective ways to exchange information. Payers and providers need versatile platforms for enterprise-wide information sharing. Clinicians require accurate information to provide quality care to patients while administrators need integrated information for all facets of the business operation. Both sides of the organization must be able to access information from research and development systems, practice management systems, claims systems, financial systems, and many others. Externally, these organizations must share claims data, patient records, pharmaceutical data, lab reports, and diagnostic information among third party entities—all while complying with emerging standards for formatting, processing, and storing electronic health records (EHR). Service-oriented architecture (SOA) enables developers to integrate many types of software applications, databases and computing platforms within a particular health network as well as with community, state, and national health information exchanges. • K-12 and Cloud considerations

  Much like every other Public Sector organization, school districts in the US and Canada are under tremendous pressure to deliver consistent and modern services while operating with reduced budgets, IT personnel shortages, and staff attrition.  Electronic/remote learning and the need for immediate access to resources such as grades, calendars, curricula etc. are straining IT environments that were already burdened with meeting privacy requirements imposed by both regulators and parents/students.  One area viewed as a solution to at least some of the challenges is the use of "Cloud" in education.  Although the concept of "Cloud" is nothing new in education with many providers supplying educational material over the web, school districts defer previously-in-house-hosted services to established commercial vendors to accommodate document sharing, app hosting, and even e-mail.  Doing so, however, does not reduce an important risk, that of privacy.  As always, Cloud implementations are viewed in a skeptical manner because of the perceived reduction in sensitive data management and protection thereof, although with a careful approach and the right tooling, the benefits realized by Clouds can expand to security and privacy.   Oracle's comprehensive approach to data privacy and identity management ensures that the necessary tools are available to support regulations, operational efficiencies and strong security regardless of where the sensitive data is stored - on premise or a Cloud.  Common management tools, role-based access controls, access policy management and engineered systems provided by Oracle can be the foundational pieces on which school districts can build their Cloud implementations without having to worry about security itself. Their biggest challenge, and it is a positive one, is how to best take advantage of Oracle's DB Security and IDM functionality to reduce operational costs while enabling modern applications and data delivery to those who needs access to it.   On a Linux or UNIX server this is one of my most frequently used commands. find . -name "*.htm" -exec grep -iH "alter session" {} \; It is an easy way to find a string you know is in a group of files, but don't know or can't remember which file it is in. For the example above, I knew that WebCenter Content sends a bunch of alter session commands to the database when it opens a new database connection. I wanted to find where these were defined and what all the alter session commands were. So, I ran these commands: cd /opt/oracle/middleware/Oracle_ECM1/ucm/idc/resources/core find . -name "*.htm" -exec grep -iH "alter session" {} \; And the results were: ./tables/query.htm: ALTER SESSION SET optimizer_mode = ?./tables/query.htm: ALTER SESSION SET NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS = ?./tables/query.htm: ALTER SESSION SET NLS_SORT = ?./tables/query.htm: ALTER SESSION SET NLS_COMP = ?./tables/query.htm: ALTER SESSION SET CURSOR_SHARING = ?./tables/query.htm: ALTER SESSION SET EVENTS '30579 trace name context forever, level 2'./tables/query.htm: ALTER SESSION SET NLS_DATE_FORMAT = ?./tables/query.htm: alter session set events '30579 trace name context forever, level 2' I could then go edit the query.htm file and find the include that contained all the ALTER SESSION commands.

• SOA Starting Point: Methods for Service Identification and Definition

  As more and more companies start to incorporate a Service Oriented Architectural design approach into their existing enterprise systems, it creates the need for a standardized integration technology. One common technology used by companies is an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). An ESB, as defined by Progress Software, connects and mediates all communications and interactions between services. In essence an ESB is a form of middleware that allows services to communicate with one another regardless of framework, environment, or location. With the emergence of ESB, a new emphasis is now being placed on approaches that can be used to determine what Web services should be built. In addition, what order should these services be built? In May 2011, SOA Magazine published an article that identified 10 common methods for identifying and defining services. SOA’s Ten Common Methods for Service Identification and Definition: Business Process Decomposition Business Functions Business Entity Objects Ownership and Responsibility Goal-Driven Component-Based Existing Supply (Bottom-Up) Front-Office Application Usage Analysis Infrastructure Non-Functional Requirements  Each of these methods provides various pros and cons in regards to their use within the design process. I personally feel that during a design process, multiple methodologies should be used in order to accurately define a design for a system or enterprise system. Personally, I like to create a custom cocktail derived from combining these methodologies in order to ensure that my design fits with the project’s and business’s needs while still following development standards and guidelines. • Turn-based Client-Server Card Game - Unicast (TCP) or Multicast (UDP)

  I am currently planning to make a card game project where the clients will communicate with the server in a turn-based and synchronous manner using messages sent over sockets. The problem I have is how to handle the following scenario: (Client takes it turn and sends its action to server) Client sends a message telling the server its move for the turn (e.g. plays the card 5 from its hand which needs to placed onto the table) Server receives messages and updates game state (server will hold all game state). Server iterates through a list of connected clients and sends a message to tell of them change in state Clients all refresh to display the state This is all based on using TCP, and looking at it now it seems a bit like the Observer pattern. The reason this seems to be an issue to me is this message doesn't seem to be point-to-point like the others as I want to send it to all the clients, and doesn't seem very efficient sending the same message in that way. I was thinking about using multicasting with UDP as then I could send the message to all the clients, however wouldn't this mean that the clients would in theory be able to message each other? There is of course the synchronous aspect as well, though this could be put on top of the UDP I guess. Basically, I would like to know what would be good practice as this project is really all about learning, and even though it won't be big enough to encounter performance issues from this I would like to consider them anyway. However, please note I am not interested in using message oriented middleware as a solution (I have experience with using MOM and I'm interested in considering other options excluding MOM if TCP sockets is a bad idea!).

Az alábbi ismerteto nem teljes köru, mivel számos olyan termék van (Data Masking, Real Application Testing, Real User Experience Insight, Application Testing Suite), melyek kapcsolódnak az Enterprise Manager-hez, azonban licencelésük másképp muködik. Az Enterprise Manager licenceléssel kapcsolatban az elsodleges információ forrás a Licensing Information doksi. A legfontosabb információk: - A Grid Control keretrendszer (Agent-ek és a konzol az alapfunkciókkal - lásd késobb) önmagában ingyenes, sot restricted-use licencet tartalmaz Oracle Database-re, amennyiben azt csak az Oracle Management Repository céljára használják. Fontos, hogy ez nem tartalmaz egyéb Oracle Database opciókat, mint például a RAC! Hasonlóképpen az Oracle WebLogic Server is kizárólagosan az Oracle Management Server kiszolgálására használható ingyenesen, de fürtözés nélkül. - A Grid Control alapfunkcionalitása: Discovery, Groups, Job Scheduling, Real time availability, Performance & monitoring, Target Home Pages, Administration, Console alerts - Az alapfunkcionalitás felügyelt termékektol függoen bovítheto Management Pack, Plug-in és Connector termékekkel. Alapvetoen ezek licencelése mindig a monitorozott, felügyelt termék licenceléséhez kell, hogy igazodjon. Tehát például ha 2 adatbázis szerverre szeretnénk Diagnostic Pack-ek használni, akkor mindkettore kell CPU vagy NUP (Named User Plus) licencet vásárolni, attól függoen az adatbázis maga milyen licenccel rendelkezik. Megjegyzem ezt a konkrét Management Pack-ek kizárólag Enterprise Edition Database esetén lehet alkalmazni. - Számos fizetos funkció külön telepítés nélkül is elérheto a Grid Control felületén (ugyanez igaz Database Control-ra és Fusion Middleware Control-ra is). Hogy elkerüljük a licenc sértést, érdemes ellenorízni hogy az adott környezetben mely Management Pack-ek használata került bekapcsolásra. Ezt a Grid Control Setup menüjében a Management Pack Access almenüben tehetjük meg legegyszerubben. Részleteseb leírás itt található. Database Diagnostic és Tuning Pack adatbázis szintu kikapcsolására is lehetoség van, hogy parancssorból se lehessen használni oket, errol korábban már írtam. • Let Devoxx 2011 begin!

  Devoxx 2011 is kicking off today and Oracle will be well represented for all its Java efforts. Here's a quick rundown of the Java EE and GlassFish side of things. Cameron Purdy, now responsible for the entire Oracle middleware stack (WebLogic, GlassFish, TopLink, Coherence) will host the Java EE keynote, mostly focused on Java EE 7. There will be sessions on individual JSRs by spec leads : Nigel Deakin for JMS 2.0, Marek Potociar for JAX-RS 2.0, and Greg Luck (EHCache) for JSR107 / javax.cache. Oracle's Shaun Smith will also cover JPA 2.1 with some of the unique EclipseLink features such as multi-tenancy. BOFs on Java EE.next and CDI are also planned during the week. Finally, Arun Gupta will be delivering a complete Java EE 6 hands-on lab. There will also be GlassFish-related sessions. A first one will focus on the current state of the community and product (3.1.x) with customers production stories, while GlassFish architect Jerome Dochez will walk you through the enhancements the team is working on for Java EE 7 and GlassFish 4 - virtualization, PaaS, elasticity and more. • Enable/Disable SSL JSSE in Weblogic Server 11g/12c

  Here is the flag to enable or to disable JSSE.-Dweblogic.ssl.JSSEEnabled=true|false Oracle recommends that you keep this value set to true.  Starting WLS 12c, Even if the above option is set to false , it is ignored. The changes are neither persisted nor the Mbean value is also left unmodified.... Please also be aware of the below changes in SSL implementation in 12c version 1. Certicom has been removed from WebLogic Server 12.1.1 and is no longer supported. 2. JSSE is the only SSL implementation that is supported in WebLogic Server 12.1.1. The following configuration changes have been made to be consistent with this support: The default for JSSEEnabled has been changed to true. Oracle recommends that you keep this value set to true. If JSSEEnabled is set to false, it will be ignored. That is, the MBean value will not be changed either in memory or the persisted config.xml file. WebLogic Server will continue to use JSSE, but will issue a warning. Please refer to the below doc in OTN for more info...
