  • Why am I getting: InvalidOperationException: Failed to map the path '/app42/App_Code/'.

    - by serialhobbyist
    I've been working on a little Silverlight utility which calls a Silverlight web service. It works from my dev machine (XPsp2). I've tried publishing it to a 2008 R2 IIS 7.5 server and it doesn't work when trying to contact the web service. So I've tried using the WcfTestClient to connect to the web service. That gave an error. So I turned off CustomErrors and used IE and I get the following. Any idea why? There's no App_Code folder in the app. Failed to map the path '/app42/App_Code/'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: Failed to map the path '/app42/App_Code/'. Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below. • How do I use DomainContext.Load in my ViewModel?

    - by kristian
    I'm trying to use RIA services to provide data to my Silverlight application by calling DomainContext.Load to retrieve a collection of widgets. I want to expose this collection through a property of the ViewModel so I can bind a control to the collection in my page. I think my approach must be fundamentally wrong because Load is called asynchronously and is therefore not available when my page loads and the control tried to bind. Can someone please show me the right way to do this? My Silverlight page has the following XAML: <navigation:Page x:Class="Demo.UI.Pages.WidgetPage" // the usual xmlns stuff here... xmlns:local="clr-namespace:Demo.UI.Pages" mc:Ignorable="d" xmlns:navigation="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Controls;assembly=System.Windows.Controls.Navigation" d:DataContext="{d:DesignInstance Type=local:WidgetPageModel, IsDesignTimeCreatable=False}" d:DesignWidth="640" d:DesignHeight="480" Title="Widget Page"> <Canvas x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding RedWidgets}" Width="150" Height="500" /> </Canvas> </navigation:Page> My ViewModel looks like this: public class WidgetPageModel { private WidgetDomainContext WidgetContext { get; set; } public WidgetPageModel() { this.WidgetContext = new WidgetDomainContext(); WidgetContext.Load(WidgetContext.GetAllWidgetsQuery(), false); } public IEnumerable<Widget> RedWidgets { get { return this.WidgetContext.Widgets.Where(w => w.Colour == "Red"); } } }

  • Implicit theme error:The property 'Content' was not found in type 'System.Windows.Controls.Control'.

    - by Mark
    I have got an error while trying to upgrade our large project to SL4. I didn't write the original theme and my theme knowlege isn't great. In my demo app I have a Label and a LabelHeader(which i have created and is just a derived class from Label with DefaultStyleKey = typeof(LabelHeader); I am styling lthem like this: <Style TargetType="themeControls:LabelHeader"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate> <DataInput:Label FontSize="{TemplateBinding FontSize}" FontFamily="{TemplateBinding FontFamily}" Foreground="{TemplateBinding Foreground}" Content="{TemplateBinding Content}"/> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> <Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="Tahoma"/> <Setter Property="FontSize" Value="20"/> <Setter Property="Foreground" Value="Red"/> </Style> This works in SL3 but in SL4 I get: Error: Unhandled Error in Silverlight Application Code: 2500 Category: ParserError Message: The property 'Content' was not found in type 'System.Windows.Controls.Control'. File: Line: 9 Position: 168 If I change this: Content="{TemplateBinding Content}" to Content="XXX" Then there is no error but , of course, I get XXX in my label rather than the content I set in XAML on the page Any ideas how I can get this working? Demo project here: http://walkersretreat.co.nz/files/ThemeIssue.zip (Apologies for reposting, I have so far got no answers over here: http://forums.silverlight.net/forums/p/183380/415930.aspx#415930)

  • How can I get a Silverlight application to check for an update and ask user to upgrade?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    I have made an out-of-browser silverlight application which I want to automatically update every time there is a new .xap file uploaded to the server. When the user right-clicks the application and clicks on Updates, the default is set to "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to download and install them": This leads me to believe that it is possible to make my Silverlight application automatically detect if there is a new .xap file present on the server, and if there is, the Silverlight client will automatically ask the user if he would like to install it. This however is not the case. I upload a new .xap file and the Silverlight application does nothing. Even if I add this to my App.xaml.cs: -- private void Application_Startup(object sender, StartupEventArgs e) { this.RootVisual = new BaseApp(); if (Application.Current.IsRunningOutOfBrowser) { Application.Current.CheckAndDownloadUpdateAsync(); } } and update the .xap file, the Silverlight application does nothing. This information enabled me to check if there is an update and if so, tell the user to restart the application, but when he restarts the application, nothing happens: -- private void Application_Startup(object sender, StartupEventArgs e) { this.RootVisual = new BaseApp(); if (Application.Current.IsRunningOutOfBrowser) { Application.Current.CheckAndDownloadUpdateAsync(); Application.Current.CheckAndDownloadUpdateCompleted += new CheckAndDownloadUpdateCompletedEventHandler(Current_CheckAndDownloadUpdateCompleted); } } void Current_CheckAndDownloadUpdateCompleted(object sender, CheckAndDownloadUpdateCompletedEventArgs e) { if (e.UpdateAvailable) { MessageBox.Show("An application update has been downloaded. " + "Restart the application to run the new version."); } else if (e.Error != null && e.Error is PlatformNotSupportedException) { MessageBox.Show("An application update is available, " + "but it requires a new version of Silverlight. " + "Visit the application home page to upgrade."); } else { //no new version available } } How do I make my Silverlight application check, each time it starts, if there is a new .xap file, and if there is, pass control to the Silverlight client to ask the user if he wants to download it, as the above dialogue implies is possible?

  • WCF: Server Not Found - from trace Empty Message when run async but works fine from console app?

    - by MrTortoise
    Todays cause of hair loss has been the following scenario: I have a service that takes 2 strings and returns another. This service uses basicHttpBinding <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="basicHttpNoSec"> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> Anyway, it works fine from a console test app. I have a silverlight app sat on top which implements another basicHttpBinding service that simply reuses the contract in the other service and the silverlight App uses this service. I have a console app that confirms that this service is working and set up with basichttpbinding. I have all the clientAccessPolicy stuff in place. when I run the silverlight app the difference is that it runs everything async ... as such the only message i directly get back rom wcf is server not found. When i enable tracing I dig down to this message - as I know the methods work and the parameteres i pass in will return a valid string i am really puzzled at to what the cause is. any help much appreciated. <E2ETraceEvent xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/2004/06/E2ETraceEvent"> <System xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/2004/06/windows/eventlog/system"> <EventID>131075</EventID> <Type>3</Type> <SubType Name="Error">0</SubType> <Level>2</Level> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2010-06-07T14:17:40.6639249Z" /> <Source Name="System.ServiceModel" /> <Correlation ActivityID="{8ea9530e-12f4-4a82-9c26-dd2e23264c3c}" /> <Execution ProcessName="aspnet_wp" ProcessID="4616" ThreadID="6" /> <Channel /> <Computer>5JC2Y2J</Computer> </System> <ApplicationData> <TraceData> <DataItem> <TraceRecord xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/2004/10/E2ETraceEvent/TraceRecord" Severity="Error"> <TraceIdentifier>http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/System.ServiceModel.Diagnostics.ThrowingException.aspx</TraceIdentifier> <Description>Throwing an exception.</Description> <AppDomain>/LM/w3svc/1/ROOT/CopSilverlight.Web-1-129203938565564172</AppDomain> <Exception> <ExceptionType>System.ServiceModel.ProtocolException, System.ServiceModel, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089</ExceptionType> <Message>There is a problem with the XML that was received from the network. • WCF on Windows Phone 7 (Silverlight 4)

    - by Igor Zevaka
    Has anyone been able to communicate using WCF on Windows Phone Series 7 emulator? I've been trying for the past two days and it's just happening for me. I can get a normal Silverlight control to work in both Silverlight 3 and Silverlight 4, but not the phone version. Here are two versions that I've tried: Version 1 - Using Async Pattern BasicHttpBinding basicHttpBinding = new BasicHttpBinding(); EndpointAddress endpointAddress = new EndpointAddress("http://localhost/wcf/Authentication.svc"); Wcf.IAuthentication auth1 = new ChannelFactory<Wcf.IAuthentication>(basicHttpBinding, endpointAddress).CreateChannel(endpointAddress); AsyncCallback callback = (result) => { Action<string> write = (str) => { this.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(delegate { //Display something }); }; try { Wcf.IAuthentication auth = result.AsyncState as Wcf.IAuthentication; Wcf.AuthenticationResponse response = auth.EndLogin(result); write(response.Success.ToString()); } catch (Exception ex) { write(ex.Message); System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(ex.Message); } }; auth1.BeginLogin("user0", "test0", callback, auth1); This version breaks on this line: Wcf.IAuthentication auth1 = new ChannelFactory<Wcf.IAuthentication>(basicHttpBinding, endpointAddress).CreateChannel(endpointAddress); Throwing System.NotSupportedException. The exception is not very descriptive and the callstack is equally not very helpful: at System.ServiceModel.DiagnosticUtility.ExceptionUtility.BuildMessage(Exception x) at System.ServiceModel.DiagnosticUtility.ExceptionUtility.LogException(Exception x) at System.ServiceModel.DiagnosticUtility.ExceptionUtility.ThrowHelperError(Exception e) at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory`1.CreateChannel(EndpointAddress address) at WindowsPhoneApplication2.MainPage.DoLogin() .... Version 2 - Blocking WCF call Here is the version that doesn't use the async pattern. [System.ServiceModel.ServiceContract] public interface IAuthentication { [System.ServiceModel.OperationContract] AuthenticationResponse Login(string user, string password); } public class WcfClientBase<TChannel> : System.ServiceModel.ClientBase<TChannel> where TChannel : class { public WcfClientBase(string name, bool streaming) : base(GetBinding(streaming), GetEndpoint(name)) { ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = WcfConfig.UserName; ClientCredentials.UserName.Password = WcfConfig.Password; } public WcfClientBase(string name) : this(name, false) {} private static System.ServiceModel.Channels.Binding GetBinding(bool streaming) { System.ServiceModel.BasicHttpBinding binding = new System.ServiceModel.BasicHttpBinding(); binding.MaxReceivedMessageSize = 1073741824; if(streaming) { //binding.TransferMode = System.ServiceModel.TransferMode.Streamed; } /*if(XXXURLXXX.StartsWith("https")) { binding.Security.Mode = BasicHttpSecurityMode.Transport; binding.Security.Transport.ClientCredentialType = HttpClientCredentialType.None; }*/ return binding; } private static System.ServiceModel.EndpointAddress GetEndpoint(string name) { return new System.ServiceModel.EndpointAddress(WcfConfig.Endpoint + name + ".svc"); } protected override TChannel CreateChannel() { throw new System.NotImplementedException(); } } auth.Login("test0", "password0"); This version crashes in System.ServiceModel.ClientBase<TChannel> constructor. The call stack is a bit different: at System.Reflection.MethodInfo.get_ReturnParameter() at System.ServiceModel.Description.ServiceReflector.HasNoDisposableParameters(MethodInfo methodInfo) at System.ServiceModel.Description.TypeLoader.CreateOperationDescription(ContractDescription contractDescription, MethodInfo methodInfo, MessageDirection direction, ContractReflectionInfo reflectionInfo, ContractDescription declaringContract) at System.ServiceModel.Description.TypeLoader.CreateOperationDescriptions(ContractDescription contractDescription, ContractReflectionInfo reflectionInfo, Type contractToGetMethodsFrom, ContractDescription declaringContract, MessageDirection direction) at System.ServiceModel.Description.TypeLoader.CreateContractDescription(ServiceContractAttribute contractAttr, Type contractType, Type serviceType, ContractReflectionInfo& reflectionInfo, Object serviceImplementation) at System.ServiceModel.Description.TypeLoader.LoadContractDescriptionHelper(Type contractType, Type serviceType, Object serviceImplementation) at System.ServiceModel.Description.TypeLoader.LoadContractDescription(Type contractType) at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory1.CreateDescription() at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory.InitializeEndpoint(Binding binding, EndpointAddress address) at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory1..ctor(Binding binding, EndpointAddress remoteAddress) at System.ServiceModel.ClientBase1..ctor(Binding binding, EndpointAddress remoteAddress) at Wcf.WcfClientBase1..ctor(String name, Boolean streaming) at Wcf.WcfClientBase`1..ctor(String name) at Wcf.AuthenticationClient..ctor() at WindowsPhoneApplication2.MainPage.DoLogin() ... Any ideas?

  • Debugging Silverlight crash

    - by RHLopez
    I am trying to debug an IE 8 crash caused by a Silverlight application. I managed to find some articles on how to do a memory dump when a process crashes. I loaded the dump in windbg and ran !analyze -v. Below is the result. I am stuck at what further steps I can take to figure out what module or library that is running in Silverlight is causing the crash. So all I have right now is the crash in IE is caused by an Access violation (attempt to execute non-executable address) and from what is in the stack trace that some animation is running in Silverlight. Any tips or articles that would help me debug this will be appreciated. This dump file has an exception of interest stored in it. The stored exception information can be accessed via .ecxr.
