  • Pre-load MS Windows right-click menus and Start menu at startup

    Hello brainy people. On my WinXP SP3 laptop (1.4Ghz 1.2GB ram), after I first log in, when I right-click in Windows Explorer and choose New, the submenu can take up to 15 seconds to load, which is a pain in the ass when you want to do a quick easy operation. After the submenu has loaded the first time, subsequent loads perform instantly, obviously as the menu has been cached. My question is: can these right-click menus (and the Start menu, which also takes some time to load the first time) be pre-loaded at Windows startup? Thanks.

  • Run .sh (no service) file on startup

    How to execute a script once at startup time on CentOS 6.3? I added file with following containment #chkconfig: 2345 95 20 #description: Some description sh /opt/somePath/my.sh into /etc/ini.d and it works fine (I executed required chmod, chkconfig). But my.sh file is compatible to run as service. And when I try to run in same way another .sh file (which can't to tun as service) I get exceptions on starting X. So I want to know how I can run .sh files which are not services. Thanks.

  • Install user scripts on Chrome

    I created a JavaScript file, and named it test.user.js. I tried double clicking it, dragging & dropping it into Chrome and opening it with Chrome, but it won't install. I've already installed the dev version of Chrome, because it's stated somewhere that it's needed, but I can't get it to work. Then, I tried searching for a Chrome Greasemonkey addon, just to see that it was no further developed on, because Chrome has built-in support. Could someboy tell me what I have to do in order to get user scripts working on Chrome v21?

  • Running a script at startup as root?

    Hi i developed a script which I set to run at startup i.e. when the Desktop appears. In the script I mounted a partition using sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt &> result.txt After executing script a file named result.txt was created which contained sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified In other words the mounting failed. If I run the script using sudo ./myProgram i don't face this problem and the drive gets mounted successfully. Any suggestions please....

  • can't run binaries or shell scripts

    I am running Debian testing and I am not able to run any binary or shell script. I keep getting "No such file or directory". The umask is the default one and I haven't fooled around with the paths. Also, I am aware of this question, but it doesn't work out for me - I compiled my code on this machine and trying to run it on the same machine. Also, all of my shell scripts have the correct shebang. Any advices?

  • DVI monitor detected only on computer startup

    I've recently connected a new monitor, LG M2252D-PZ, to a rather outdated computer with Windows XP and Radeon 9600. XP has SP3 installed, video drivers are the latest version back from the times the video card was still supported. My problem is that the monitor works fine only as long as I don't turn it off or switch it to a different input. When I turn it back on, it says "no signal". The key to the problem must be the DVI port, to which the new monitor is connected. The previous monitor was connected to the VGA output, and I've tested that the new one also works fine when connected to the analogue port. Apparently, the computer tests for the presence of a monitor on the DVI port only on startup. The question is, how do I change this?

  • Black Screen on Startup even after running chkdsk

    I started an old (Dell Inspiron 2200) the startup goes all the way to Microsoft Windows XP Logo then I get a black screen. I am still able to move the cursor but that is about it. I tried running Recovery console (from CD) with chkdsk command. First time it said they were errors. I decided to do a fixboot and see if the errors went away. They did. Restarted and still no luck. If there are commands that I can call either from recovery console or elsewhere to further describe the problem please tell me and I will re-edit the question. srvtag:7XNSG81 Also what are my full range of options before wiping the hard-drive (if that is even the problem) I want to exhaust all options before replacing hardware.

  • Run BGInfo At Startup For All Users

    I have a Windows 7 image which I intend to deploy across a business. For simplicity I intend to install BGInfo on each machine and have it update each time a user logs in. From what I can see, when BGInfo creates a configuration file, the file contains variables which are local to each account - and therefore the configuration file will only work on the user account that created it. Has anyone any idea as to how make these configuration files 'generic' so that BGInfo will work for all accounts when they log in? At present I have the BGInfor application and a BGInfo configuration file saved on the C drive and I have written a batch file which is stored in the 'All Users/Start Menu/Startup' directory (which executes every time any user on the computer logs in), however this only works for the account which created the configuration file.     The micro instance of Amazon EC2 only has ram of 613MB, my laptop got 8GB. And I suppose likewise the processing power of my computer would be better than the micro instance. My question is, what are the considerations in deciding to host yourself or on Amazon EC2, especially for a really baby startup? For example, would network speed be a problem? My computer broadband network is 100Mbs up to 1Gbs. What would Amazon compare to this? My site at these moment would just host some images and perform some php requests. I would probably also use cloudflare but seems it increases the dns lookup time considerably... And of course the overall objective is to make the best user experience.

How do I disable this Sign in thing? I do not ever want to use it. The version I'm using is Chrome 18.0.1025.168. (For purposes of testing, I'm intentionally using older version.)

    Is it possible to use the new client side validation features of asp.net MVC 2 without having to use the MS scripts (MicrosoftAjax.js, MicrosoftMvcAjax.js, MicrosoftMvcValidation.js)? I use JQuery throughout my application; JQuery has a great plugin for validation and I don't really want to force my users to load MS scripts just for validation. Is this possible? If so, any suggestions for how to accomplish it are appreciated.

    I usually do the following at office - Set the startup program for the project to System32\dllhost.exe, and set the command line arguments for the startup program accordingly. This used to work perfectly fine, because I was running Visual Studio 2008. However, one of my developers use C# Express Edition and they need to do a similar thing.   • Powermock Slows Down Test Startup on Eclipse/Fedora 10 when on NTFS partition

    I've just started having a proper play with Powermock and noticed that it slows down test startup immensely. A quick look at top while it was running shows that mount.nfts-3g was taking up most of the CPU. I moved Eclipse and my source directory to ext3 partitions to see if that was a problem and the tests now startup quicker but there's still a noticeable delay. Is this normal with Powermock or am I missing something obvious?
