• Query to return internal details about stored function in MS-SQL database

  I have been given access to a ms-sql database that is currently used by 3rd party app. As such, I don't have any documentation on how that application stores the data or how it retrieves it. I can figure a few things out based on the names of various tables and the parameters that the user-defined functions takes and returns, but I'm still getting errors at every other turn. I was thinking that it would be really helpful if I could see what the stored functions were doing with the parameters given to return the output. Right now all I've been able to figure out is how to query for the input parameters and the output columns. Is there any built-in information_schema table that will expose what the function is doing between input and output?

  Hi, I need to figure how much time passed between 2 times. For example: (14:00:00 - 13:15:00) * 24 = .75 I need this to later on convert KW to KWh, but that's not the point. I can not find out how to do this in PL/SQL. My date/time fields look like this in the DB: 1/23/2010 21:00:00 I would appreciate any suggestions. Steve

  I have a SQL DB that has a table of products, and another table which contains a list of the sku variants of each product if it has one. I want to export all the products and their SKU's into excel. At the moment, I have a helper SQL function which performs the subquery against a product_id and concatenates all the SKU's into a comma-delimited string, e.g: Product Code, Name, SKUs 111 P1 77, 22, 11 Is there an easier way to do this, so that each SKU is a row which the associated product code as well, i.e: Product Code, Name, SKUs 111 P1 77 111 P1 22 111 P1 11

• Passing an array of data as an input parameter to an Oracle procedure

  I'm trying to pass an array of (varchar) data into an Oracle procedure. The Oracle procedure would be either called from SQL*Plus or from another PL/SQL procedure like so: BEGIN pr_perform_task('1','2','3','4'); END; pr_perform_task will read each of the input parameters and perform the tasks. I'm not sure as to how I can achieve this. My first thought was to use an input parameter of type varray but I'm getting Error: PLS-00201: identifier 'VARRAY' must be declared error, when the procedure definiton looks like this: CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE PR_DELETE_RECORD_VARRAY(P_ID VARRAY) IS To summarize, how can I pass the data as an array, let the SP loop through each of the parameters and perform the task ? I'm using Oracle 10gR2 as my database.

  Why does Oracle 10 R2 not allow use of notational parameters while calling functions in insert statements ? In my app, I'm calling a function in an insert statement. If use notational method of parameter passing, I get an ORA-00907: Missing right parenthesis error message INSERT INTO foo (a, b, c) VALUES (c, F1(P1=>'1', P2=>'2', P3 => '3'), e) Changing the same to position based parameter passing, and the same code gets compiled with no errors. INSERT INTO foo (a, b, c) VALUES (c, F1('1','2','3'), e) Why is this so ?

• jQuery-AJAX to rebind dropdown list to results from stored procedure

  I have a dropdown list of peoples names that is quite long. As many as 2,000 names. I would like to make it easier to find the name the user is interested in by limiting the dropdown list to a subset of names at a time. I have done this by creating a series of 26 links (A, B, C ... Z) that call a method in the code behind that populates the dropdown list with only those names starting with the letter the user clicked. This all works well but I would like to be able to use AJAX to accomplish this update of the dropdown list without a page refresh. I would like to use jQuery for the AJAX functionality rather than ASP.NET AJAX. My problem is I am not sure how to execute the stored procedure and then "rebind" the dropdown list with the new dataset via jQuery AJAX. Any suggestions or resources that might provide and example or walk-through? Thank you.

Besides it's inconvenient, if i get all this multi-results (which i really don't need at all), about 5 (limit's param) for each of the hundreds of thousands of records in Soul, i'm afraid it will take all my memory (and all in vain). Also, i noticed, if i do prepare from an empty string, it still has multi-results... At least how to get rid of them in the execute statement? And i would like to have a recipe to avoid ANY output from SP, for any possible statement (i also have a lot of "update ..."s and "select ... into "s inside, if they can produce multi's).   My Subversion repository is available over HTTPS. I've got a self-signed CA root certificate, and the server uses a certificate signed with that. The CA root certificate is stored in Trusted Root Certification Authorities, which means that (for example) Internet Explorer recognises it. AnkhSVN, on the other hand, reports "There are some problems with this server's certificate". So: what is AnkhSVN using as its certificate store? It doesn't appear to be the Windows one. And how do I put my CA root certificate in there?

  I understand there isn't a way to interrogate a users IE settings directly due to security reasons, but is there a way to derive this answer with some other mechanism? I would like to stop a user from using my site if the setting "Check for newer versions of stored pages" is set to "Never". Any suggestions? Is there a way I could test for this using javascript? An example of what I am trying to accomplish is this: While it is not possible to check IE settings to see if you are running a popup blocker, that is a way to "test" for a popup blocker via javascript. I am looking for something similiar but for the cache setting, not the popup blocker.

• How to check value of stored procedure output parameter

  I have a stored procedure that: A. inserts some rows into a "table variable" based on some joins B. selects all values from column x from that table into a string with comma separated values C. selects all from the "table variable" If I execute the procedure like this: EXEC CatalogGetFilmDetails2 2,111111; a table is returned as instructed per step C above. How can I execute it so that also the output parameter value is displayed? (see point B above). I need to check if it's calculated properly. And since the second parameter is of output type, meaning it's calculated inside the procedure, why is it mandatory to specify a value for it when executing the procedure? I normally use a random value for it, it anyway doesn't matter/impact the result. On the other hand if I try to execute it without the output parameter, it returns an error) Thank you very much! • Prevent strings stored in memory from being read by other programs

  Some programs like ProcessExplorer are able to read strings in memory (for example, my error message written in the code could be displayed easily, even though it is compiled already). Imagine if I have a password string "123456" allocated sequentially in memory. What if hackers are able to get hold of the password typed by the user? Is there anyway to prevent strings from being seen so clearly? Oh yes, also, if I hash the password and sent it from client to server to compare the stored database hash value, won't the hacker be able to store the same hash and replay it to gain access to the user account? Is there anyway to prevent replaying? Thank You!

I run the sp_LockReader at same time in two diferent query windows and the second one starts showing test table contents without the first one terminates. Something like: insert into data_view(field) values('abc') returning id into my_variable would be nice but doesn't work with error: ERROR: cannot perform INSERT RETURNING on relation "data_view" HINT: You need an unconditional ON INSERT DO INSTEAD rule with a RETURNING clause. I don't really understand that HINT. I use PostgreSQL 8.4.
