  • Need to configure 4 Serial ports virtualbox guest win machine (my host is ubuntu 11.10)

    I have an application that run's on winNT and requires the APCI-7500 card (a 4-multiport serial card), so I've installed the winNT thru virtualbox, but as i try to configure the serial ports I notice that virtualbox shows only 2 serial ports, only 2 tabs in the ports configuration section.How can I add the other 2 ports and configure them. My host is ubuntu 11.04 My guest is winNT My virtualbox version is 4.0.4_OSEr70112 I'll appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.     I'm trying to fix GRUB on my PC, but I'm running into serious issues doing so. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm completely crippled right now.     I installed the Droid@Screen plugin into NetBeans IDE 8 so that you can see the Android device that I held in my hand while doing the demo below. The demo shows the usage of the Terminal window to create an Ionic Framework application (from "tabs", which is one of the cool templates that the framework provides), i.e., that means I can use AngularJS to create a Cordova application out of the box, with many mobile-oriented components available out of the box. Then I deploy the app to the Chrome browser on Android, which means I can interact with it in NetBeans, e.g., for CSS styling and JavaScript debugging. In this demo, I show how the background color of the deployed app can be changed live from NetBeans. After that, once I'm happy with the styling, I deploy the app again, but this time as a Cordova app, i.e., a hybrid HTML5 application, which means the app is packaged as a native app and deployed directly to the device from NetBeans.     1) Downloaded 11.10 ISO file to Dell XP Workstation 2) Made bootable USB using Pendrivelinux 3) Installed to harddrive using option 1 (Install along side Windows) 4) Rebooted when instructed 5) Booted into Ubuntu just fine (first time) 6) Attempted restart - got first splash screen followed by "input not supported" - tapped ESC and eventually got into Ubuntu 7) Later attempts failed - got "input not supported"; no eventual boot 8) Many retries holding / tapping various keys - same result 9) Booted from USB - all files appear to be in place - can access GRUB on harddrive Suggestions appreciated - must to be able to boot XP.   • Dualboot Asus n56v (ubuntu / win 7 x64) - ubuntu doesn't detect partition table made by windows

    I have an Asus n56v and I've got troubles installing Ubuntu 12.04 x64. I already have installed Windows 7 x64! The hard drive is: Hitachi HTS547575A9E384 My problem: The installation program doesn't recognize the already existing partitions and is offering only options where there are partitions. Can someone help me out? Is this an ACPI/IDE conflict, missing driver or conflict with Windows 7? (I'm not an expert on Linux, only working sometimes with it.) I now tried out some options concerning EFI with a GTP-table. Everything worked but I wasn't able to fix a dual boot (Windows boot loader) nor with GRUB2. The laptop is still having a BIOS, but is able to boot DVDs/CDs in EFI-mode. Now I try to avoid EFI and GTP using the old windows MBR style. I reinstalled Windows, so far no problem. When I want to try to install Ubuntu, it doesn't detect the already existing partition table. It is just showing me an empty space for the whole disk. Other threads like Ubuntu 12.04 does not see windows already install on my computer (dual installation) don't help me out. os-prober shows me a correct result. I don't know how to deal with gdisk as shown in Installer doesn't detect existing partition table/windows 7 partition. I have 750GB for the whole disk. I'm using: 90GB for Windows reserved partition + system partition, 500GB for data and the rest should be for SWAP and linux-system. How can I make Ubuntu detect the partition table?

  • Dual boot Win/7 and Ubuntu 12.04

    So I've always wanted Ubuntu along with windows 7 and finally I went to try and make my computer that last night. (( I'll just skip the long story. )) I loaded Ubuntu from CD, Version 12.04 and it loaded fine and then I clicked the install icon. It asked me witch option I would like to proceed with, and I answered Ubuntu, in Windows 7. So it did everything rather quickly, and restarted itself; upon restarting itself it ejected the CD, and I thought everything was good to go. It brought me to the Option to either load Ubuntu or Windows, I was thinking to myself wow that was alot easier than I thought; Windows 7 Loads fine after it checked the HDD but when I go to load Ubuntu it brings me to the loading screen and then stays there for a long period time, finally moves on as if it was going to load into the regular dashboard, but loads into a dos looking thing. (( I'm sorry if I sound retarded explaining everything I'm not great with computers )) And at the very time it says something like installation failed. It also says it could not find a file or something like that. If you need me to go back and get the full message and put it up here I will. But if I put the CD in it loads fine. Thanks in advance for everyone that helps me solve this problem.

    It's already the second time, I have an E-Mail in the outbox of the Mail-app of Windows 8 which is stuck. I don't see the exact reason why this happens (I have no big files attached to the mails and the recipient is valid). The first time I have had this problem, I have not found a simple way to remove the stucked email. I solved the Problem by removing the accounts from the mail app and then adding the same accounts newly to the app. However I'm wondering if there is a more simple way of doing this? Does someone know how to remove an email which is stuck in the outbox?

    I see that Google App Engine apps run on a so-called secured sandbox JRE; that is, a JRE that Google modified and that makes changes to certain JRE types. This is how GAE prevents developers from writing apps that can do things like: Access the local file system via File Make remote JDBC calls Use JNDI Lots of other restrictions We have a similar need where we have an app that developers will be able to write plugins for. These plugins will need to utilize an API (a JAR) that we distribute with our app. We cannot afford for plugins to do certain things, particularly on the end user's file system, and need to modify the File class in a similar manner that GAE does. Long back-story short, this means we'll need to ship our app with a custom, modified JRE. My question: is this legal to do, or did Google likely pay Oracle some fee to modify/distribute their own JRE for app engine?

    I'm a "newbie" to Ubuntu, but I've been wrestling with this problem for several hours and don't seem to be able to solve it: When I set the time in Windows (Indianapolis, Eastern U.S. time zone) and then re-boot to Ubuntu, the computer time goes to Hawaiian time. When the time is set in Ubuntu, and the computer is rebooted to Windows the time is advanced by 5 hours. I've set the time in the BIOS, and it seems to make no difference. I've tried setting the time from "automatic" to "manual", all with the same result. Not a big problem, but it shows some underlying glitch. Could anyone explain?

  • Basics about file/folder permissions on Win 7

    Hi. Under Win XP I never touched the permissions of a file/folder. I was happy with the way it worked. But recently I installed Windows 7 on a drive that previously hosted Windows XP. Now, some programs do not have 'read' and/or 'write' access to their own folders - and I am not talking about system folders like 'Program Files' but normal folders like 'C:\my data\my own folder\program folder'. I see that for folders created under Win XP I have some user groups that do not exist for 'normal' folders (folders created by me recently under Windows 7). For example, for the Win XP folder I have: Creator owner System Account unknown(S-1-5-21 blablabla... Admins Users For Win7 folders I have: Authenticated users System Admins Users How should I proceed? Should I give the right to the "Users" account to write to XP folders? Should I make the old folders (the XP folders) to have the same groups of users as the normal (Win7) ones by adding the "Authenticated users" account to those folders? Should I delete the "Account unknown" account from my system? (In this case, how?) Many thanks.

  • Combine Windows 8 app and settings search?

    While I've adapted to most things in windows 8 quite easily, I miss the 'combined' search feature of win 7 where pressing Win then typing would bring up all of the applications, settings and files (not that I ever really used the files part). Now, if I want to search settings I press win, start typing, then have to press the down arrow twice, then enter, then find the setting I want (I know I could press win-w, but that's just another thing to remember). Is there any way to bring back the 'unified search'?

  • How can you turn off alternate screen in OSX's Terminal.app?

    altscreen is evil. If you don't know what I'm talking about, see this page for visual demonstration. Problem is, there doesn't seem to be a way to stop it with Terminal.app (under OSX), when you're not using screen. Yes, you can edit terminfo definition, but that's rather blunt hammer. Plus that solution might break if Apple decides to update relevant term's definition in some patch. Is there some clean way to convince Terminal.app to block altscreen usage?
