• Get a CSS value from external style sheet with Javascript/jQuery

  Is it possible to get a value from the external CSS of a page if the element that the style refers to has not been generated yet? (the element is to be generated dynamically). The jQuery method I've seen is $('element').css('property','value');, but this relies on element being on the page. Is there a way of finding out what the property is set to within the CSS rather than the computed style of an element? Will I have to do something ugly like add a hidden copy of the element to my page so that I can access its style attributes?

• Maintaining the query string in ASP.Net MVC

  Hi all Just beginning my journey in ASP.Net MVC and I have a query about something before I dig myself in too deep. I have a table, which is paged, and I have 2 controls above the table: Dropdown that defines order of the results and apply button next to it Textbox that defines a filter and apply button next to it What I need to achieve is that if the user changes the order or adds a filter I fire of an AJAX call to my action like such: /Membership/Users?sort=value&filter=value&page=pagenumber. So my controller action is: // GET Membership/Users?sort=&filter=&page= public ActionResult Users(string sort, string filter, string page) So I have 3 questions: Is this the correct approach? What would be the best way to ensure that the query string is maintained, bearing in mind that the action will nearly always be called by Jquery/Ajax functions? If I wanted to link directly to this action passing the arguments would I need to hard-code the querystring? Thanks

  When i got MaxRequestLen errors in file upload page, i set MaxRequestLen=31457280 using: <IfModule mod_fcgid.c> MaxRequestLen 31457280 FcgidIOTimeout 90 </IfModule> Now file upload works when i use http url. I have recently configured ssl for my site and when i use https url for same upload page, i get the same error: HTTP request length 131073 (so far) exceeds MaxRequestLen (131072) Is there a different setting for https? Please help. Thank you.

  I was going through the interview questions and found out the below question which I am not able to answer it. Can anyone provide some sort of algorithm for this problem how can I solve it? There are a cluster of stateless servers all serving the same pages. The servers are hosting 5 web pages- p1.html, p2.html, p3.html, p4.html and p5.html p1.html just redirects users to the other 4 pages Requests to p1.html should result in 10% of users being redirected to p2.html, 5% of users redirected to p3.html, 20% of users redirected to p4.html, and 65% of users redirected to p5.html. Users do not need to stick to the page they are first redirected to. They could end up on a different page with every request to p1.html Write a function/pseudocode that would be invoked with every request to p1.html and redirect the correct percentage of users to the correct page. Any suggestions will be of great help.

  Hi I'm working with a Wordpress template. I have a separate template page for the blog section. On the other pages of the site I have class that works fine and looks like this .post header h2 { display:none; } On the blog page, I add this to the CSS and it works as it should #main .post header h2 { display:block; } However if I try that with other classes like #main .wrapper { background-color:#000000; } Nothing happens. • Cannot save properly the source of .html file containing Russian letters as .txt

  When I save the source of this page of a Russian website: http://www.mail.ru/ as a .txt file, all Russian letters turn into Chinese characters (I am working on a Chinese computer at the moment), but when I save another page of another Russian website: http://starling.rinet.ru/cgi-bin/response.cgi?root=/usr/local/share/starling/morpho&morpho=0&basename=\usr\local\share\starling\morpho\ozhegov\ozhegov&first=4001 also as a .txt file, all Russian letters are saved in it as the are. Why is it so?

• Modifying a global variable from <a href>

  I have created some code to popup a confirm dialog if a user tries to leave a page without saving their changes. However, I don't want the confirmation dialog to popup if the user has clicked the "Save" button. I have some code at the top of my file which looks like this: var confirmClose = false; window.onbeforeunload = function(evt) { if (confirmClose == true) { message = "There are unsaved changes on this page. Are you sure you wish to leave?"; if (typeof evt == 'undefined') { evt = window.event; } if (evt) { evt.returnValue = message; } return message; } } Further down on the page I have a link which looks like this: <a href="javascript:confirmClose=false;$('#stockForm').submit()" title="Save" class="button positive" id="stockFormSubmit">Save</a> However, this doesn't seem to work - it doesn't seem to change the value of confirmClose, and changing it to window.confirmClose didn't help either. What am I doing wrong here?

• JQuery delegate what may cause it to not function

  I have a webpage using jquery 1.42 The following 2 segments of code live in my page. $('body').delegate('h2', 'click', function() { $(this).after("<p>delegate paragraph!<\/p>"); }); $('body h2').live('click', function() { $(this).after("<p>live paragraph!<\/p>"); }); The live method always works, yet the delegate doesn't fire at all. If I create a trivial page with simple html <body><h2>blah</h2></body> both approaches work. So I'm assuming there is something else going on in my page. With firebug I am seeing no javascript errors, no html errors. and breakpoints on the delegate method definately do not get hit. What else might be the cause of delegate not triggering?

  I created a marker interface: public interface ISupportAJAXPostsBacks{} I added it to my Page.. public partial class MyWebForm : PageBase, ISupportAJAXPostsBacks I have this check in my PageBase class... if(this is ISupportAJAXPostsBacks) { ... do some stuff ... } If I step through via the debugger, "this is ISupportAJAXPostsBacks" evaluates to true for the initial page load, but evaluates to false when an UpdatePanel posts back on that same page. (scratches head) What is happening under the covers to cause this and what can I do about it?

• Decoding and caching json every 60 minutes

  Hi, How do I do this on a php webpage? I want to get and decode a json string and display the results as html on my page, however, I don't want it hotlinking back to the source. If I could write the decoded string to a txt file say weather.txt on the server and keep the html formatting and do it so that the page won't fetch the json script until 60 minutes has passed since the last time it was fetched regardless of how many times the page is opened during that 60 minute period and the weather.txt is viewed. All I can come up with is a simple script that hotlinks, everything else I have tried simply failed. $file = file_get_contents('http://sample.com/weather'); $out = (json_decode($file)); echo $out-mainText; Will appreciate any help with this.

By smart, what I mean is that I only want to show, for example, 2 adjacent pages to the current page, so instead of ending up with a ridiculously long page list, I truncate it.   Hi, on our site we do url rewriting to generate massive amounts of database generated pages. on every page, there is a Login control for users. like this: Internal aspx page: /DB.aspx?id=123 User visible url: /ABC/123.aspx, /ABC/456.aspx ... (url rewritten) unfortunately, the tag on each page has an action attribute of "DB.aspx?id=123". when the user clicks the button the browser is posting to /ABC/DB.aspx?id=123 which of course does not exist. solutions i tried: 1. change the action attribute by subclassing HtmlForm. this destroys the all other forms on the site. 2. remove the action attribute (so that the browser is always posting to the same url). this works on the rewritten pages but on "/" (the default.aspx in the root dir) i get a message that the verb post is not allowed on "/" (iis 6 and i have no control over mappings) anybody?

  I've got a simple page, and in that page runs a simple jquery keypress routine to catch clicks of the numbers 1 to 9 (has to be that to pass RNIB accessibility test). And in that page is a form, which can have numbers entered as part of a postcode. http://find.talking-newspapers.co.uk/result.php?addressInput=kingston Scroll to the bottom, try typing 8 or 9 for example. The text is entered, but it also acts on the keypress. Expected, but not good. I'm aware of various things like document.getElementById, but I can't figure out how to put these together to ensure that while the cursor is in the text input box, it doesn't act out the keypress catcher.

• Java Security filter together with thickbox pop-ups

  Hi, I have a java application that uses a security filter to protect certain resources. If there is no user logged on, it will keep in session the request path and redirect to a logon page. After a successful logon, user is redirected to the original requested page. I have now added some thickbox (ajax bases pop-up) popups to the application. Unfortunately, when I get now a popup that is "secure" the filter redirects to a logon page (which is not a popup) and makes the whole application messy. Anyone with ideas on how to solve this? • Is a new thread in a Visual Studio test project aborted when the test ends?

  Hi, i have to do some message exchange with a 3rd party (in a website). When the client posts a page, i start the message exchange. When that doesn't succeed for some reason, i report this to the client by rendering the page with a message. On the background, in a separate thread, i start a process to send abort messages to the 3rd party. I can't do this while the user is waiting for the page to come back, because it might take a few minutes. But in a test project, the test ends when the message to the 3rd party is sent, and after the new thread is started. But it seems that the new thread also ends, when the test is done. Is that normal behaviour? I do start the thread in a new class with a reference to 2 objects from the class which tries to send the message in the first place, may that be a problem?

  $page = $curl->post($baseUrl.'/submit.php', array('url'=>$address,'phase'=>'1','randkey'=>$randKey[0],'id'=>'c_1')); $exp = explode('recaptcha_image',$page); The id recaptcha_image is not found although if i echo $page; the webpage will be displayed and surprisingly even the recpatcha div (with the image itself). Curl shouldn't load the image for recaptcha but somehow it does though when i try to find the div, it is not there. Is there a way to capture the url of the recaptcha image?
