• Can't Log Into Ubuntu 12.04

  Yesterday, after turning on Ubuntu, I logged into a Gnome session. A few minutes later, I tried switching to Unity for a change. Unfortunately, the background and my desktop icons loaded, but the system bar and launcher failed to load even after several minutes. Unity had always worked fine for me. I then tried the guest account, and it worked fine on both Unity and Gnome. However, the problem with my account got worse; I couldn't log into any desktop at all anymore. I would type in my password and press enter and it would just sit there doing nothing. The computer no longer responded in any way, so I had to hold the power button and reboot. The same problem happened repeatedly. Earlier today, I tried to get on again. I found that I hadthe same problem, when I tried to log in, the computer no longer locked up, but instead flashed a black screen with theconsole output and what seemed to be an error message before returning to the log in screen. It was to quick for me to read, about 1/4-1/2 second. I'd really appreciate some help as I have some important files that are not backed up yet. I can't transfer the files to a new account, or even make a new account because I tried taking the password off my account so now I can't authenticate from the guest to perform root functions. • Is there a proven concept to website reverse certificate authentication?

  We're looking at exposing some of our internal application data externally via a website. The actual details of the website aren't that interesting, it'll be built using ASP.NET/IIS etc, that might be relevant. With this, I'm essentially I'm looking for a mechanism to authenticate users viewing my website. This sounds trivial, a username/password is typically fine, but I want more. Now I've read plenty about SSL/x.509 to realise that the CA determines that we're alright, and that the user can trust us. But I want to trust the user, I want the user to be rejected if they don't have the correct credentials. I've seen a system for online banking whereby the bank issues a certificate which gets installed on the users' computer (it was actually smartcard based). If the website can't discover/utilise the key-pair then you are immediately rejected! This is brutal, but necessary. Is there a mechanism where I can do the following: Generate a certificate for a user Issue the certificate for them to install, it can be installed on 1 machine If their certificate is not accessible, they are denied all access A standard username/password scheme is then used after that SSL employed using their certificate once they're "in" This really must already exist, please point me in the right direction! • lxterminal not working

  My Lxterminal is not working. Here's some background: A few days ago I wanted to configure the keyboard layouts for my Lubuntu 11.10 for English and Romanian. You can find a deetailed description of what I did here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11793260 So, it worked for a few days. Today it stopped working again. So I started reading forums again. I tried to follow this forum: Switching keyboard layouts in Lubuntu 11.10 so I went up in the terminal, went into the .bashrc file and added this sudo tee -a /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart right after this: setxkbmap -layout "us,ro(winkeys)" -option "grp:ctrl_shift_toggle" Then pressed Ctrl+X and Enter. Almost at the same time I installed some system updates. A few minutes later I wanted to use the terminal again, and this is what happens: [sudo] password for dora: I type in the password but nothing happens. Also, whatever other command I try to type, it just gets returned. No errors messages, nothing. Please help. PS: Funnily, I just noticed that I am now able to type in Romanian again!

• Resized Ubuntu 14.04 partition will not boot

  First, a little background info: I intended to install Ubuntu alongside OS X, but I accidentally erased my entire hard drive and was left with Ubuntu alone. Yesterday, I finally tried to create a desperate partition and OS X. I successfully shrank my Ubuntu partition and created ~40 GB of free space. I used gparted to do this. At first I tried to use Internet Recovery to install OS X on the unallocated space I had created, but discovered I couldn't. I went back to gparted and created a FAT partition with that space. I'm pretty sure I actually did this using my Ubuntu partition on my hard drive (the one I had just shrunken), rather than the USB live boot I had used to shrink it. Therefore, at this point, I think my Ubuntu partition was still functioning properly. I went back to internet recovery and used disk utility to turn the FAT partition into a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) [HFS/HFS+] partition. I believe this is probably where the problem occurred. I successfully reinstalled OS X and found it to be fully functioning. However, when I tried to boot back into the Ubuntu partition all I got was a black screen with a little white cursor (it looks similar to a terminal screen/the Mac DFU mode, but I can't type anything into it. Is there anything I can do to repair my Ubuntu partition? If not, can I at least recover the data from it? Thank you for any help.

  Help please! My backup method of choice is to clone my "working" drive to another identical drive. I have 2 windows drives and I clone my working one to the other one once per month. No problem - each will boot if I select it. Now with the lack of future support for XP, I am getting familiar with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I have it on one drive and I have a second identical drive that I want to be able to clone it to once/month. Not as necessary to do this with Ubuntu as with windows, I know, but I'm anal. So I have followed #47209 MestreLion's procedure with just the two Ubuntu drives "on line". I.e., boot my "working" drive with Live CD, use Gparted to be sure I know what's what, open terminal and enter and execute the dd command, Go to bed till the clone is done, shut down the computer, disconnect the input/source drive, boot up using BIOS to select the remaining output drive. The drive starts fine but all is not OK. It puts up a screen that says I'm on a Guest Session and asks for a password. Well, for one thing I have my Ubuntu set up to start without a password being entered. I have one, of course, I put it in but it isn't accepted. I can't get by this Guest Session screen. I am fine, of course. I can disconnect this drive, hook up my "main" ubuntu drive and all the rest, and go on with my business. But I don't have the desired "emergency backup" drive working where I could jump on and use it immediately if I needed it. Can someone give me some guidance here?? What (else) do I need to do.   I'm planning to write a game from scratch (a BIG Game, for commercial purpose). I'm aware that there are certain compute libraries like OpenCL, AMD APP SDK, C++ AMP as well as DirectCompute - both from MS (NOT interested in CUDA) are available in the market. I'm planning to write the game from the scratch, which includes the following engines... 1.Physics Engine 2.AI Engine 3.Main Game Engine (... and if anything is missed). I'm aware that, there are some free physics engine libraries in the market. Not sure about free AI engine libraries. I'm bit confused in choosing between the OpenCL, AMD APP SDK, and C++ AMP libraries (as already mentioned i'm NOT interested in CUDA). I want my game to be published in Windows/Android/Mac OSX. It means it should be a cross-platform game. I will be having "one source code" that i'll compile for various platforms like Windows/Android/Mac OSX, and any others if i missed. Note: Since I'm NOT a Java guy, kindly do NOT suggest me the Java Language. For Graphics language should i use OpenGL or DirectX 11? I have heard that OpenGL runs on a single core, and not sure of DirectX 11. Between OpenGL and DirectX which one should i follow? or else, are there any other graphics language that i need to start with? I want to make use of the parallelism in GPU as well as CPU.

• 3.2.0-31-generic version doesn't boot

  12.04 used to work just fine a month ago. Since August, I installed all of the available updates. Since then my mac-pro is acting weird. If I restart the computer, the screen gets stuck in the purple back ground without any texts. Then if I restart again, I can choose what versions of linux I want to run. If I select 3.2.0-31-generic, the machine gets stuck in a state of blinking cursor. If I boot again to run 3.2.0-31-generic recovery mode, the machine gets stuck in a "..... memory freed End of Stack" mode. I can't boot through this kernel. I have to choose an older version of linux like 3.2.0-12-generic to boot into my mac pro, but I have too boot twice to get into this version. I was wondering --if you could provide me a solution to boot the 3.2.0-31-generic version. -- if you could provide me a solution to boot into any version the first time I restart. (Usually I have to kill the first restart) --- If there is an option in linux to choose what version I want to run every time I restart so that I don't have to choose everytime. Thank you

• How to decrypt an encrypted Apple iTunes iPhone backup?

  I've been asked by a number of unfortunate iPhone users to help them restore data from their iTunes backups. This is easy when they are unencrypted, but not when they are encrypted, whether or not the password is known. As such, I'm trying to figure out the encryption scheme used on mddata and mdinfo files when encrypted. I have no problems reading these files otherwise, and have built some robust C# libraries for doing so. (If you're able to help, I don't care which language you use. It's the principle I'm after here!) The Apple "iPhone OS Enterprise Deployment Guide" states that "Device backups can be stored in encrypted format by selecting the Encrypt iPhone Backup option in the device summary pane of iTunes. Files are encrypted using AES128 with a 256-bit key. The key is stored securely in the iPhone keychain." That's a pretty good clue, and there's some good info here on Stackoverflow on iPhone AES/Rijndael interoperability suggesting a keysize of 128 and CBC mode may be used. Aside from any other obfuscation, a key and initialisation vector (IV)/salt are required. One might assume that the key is a manipulation of the "backup password" that users are prompted to enter by iTunes and passed to "AppleMobileBackup.exe", padded in a fashion dictated by CBC. However, given the reference to the iPhone keychain, I wonder whether the "backup password" might not be used as a password on an X509 certificate or symmetric private key, and that the certificate or private key itself might be used as the key. (AES and the iTunes encrypt/decrypt process is symmetric.) The IV is another matter, and it could be a few things. Perhaps it's one of the keys hard-coded into iTunes, or into the devices themselves. Although Apple's comment above suggests the key is present on the device's keychain, I think this isn't that important. One can restore an encrypted backup to a different device, which suggests all information relevant to the decryption is present in the backup and iTunes configuration, and that anything solely on the device is irrelevant and replacable in this context. So where might be the key be? I've listed paths below from a Windows machine but it's much of a muchness whichever OS we use. The "\appdata\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\itunesprefs.xml" contains a PList with a "Keychain" dict entry in it. The "\programdata\apple\Lockdown\09037027da8f4bdefdea97d706703ca034c88bab.plist" contains a PList with "DeviceCertificate", "HostCertificate", and "RootCertificate", all of which appear to be valid X509 certs. The same file also appears to contain asymmetric keys "RootPrivateKey" and "HostPrivateKey" (my reading suggests these might be PKCS #7-enveloped). Also, within each backup there are "AuthSignature" and "AuthData" values in the Manifest.plist file, although these appear to be rotated as each file gets incrementally backed up, suggested they're not that useful as a key, unless something really quite involved is being done. There's a lot of misleading stuff out there suggesting getting data from encrypted backups is easy. It's not, and to my knowledge it hasn't been done. Bypassing or disabling the backup encryption is another matter entirely, and is not what I'm looking to do. This isn't about hacking apart the iPhone or anything like that. All I'm after here is a means to extract data (photos, contacts, etc.) from encrypted iTunes backups as I can unencrypted ones. I've tried all sorts of permutations with the information I've put down above but got nowhere. I'd appreciate any thoughts or techniques I might have missed.

  Hey all, I'm trying to add a file upload control to my ASP.NET MVC 2 form but after I select a jpg and click Save, it gives the following error: The input is not a valid Base-64 string as it contains a non-base 64 character, more than two padding characters, or a non-white space character among the padding characters. • How to write a test for accounts controller for forms authenticate

  Trying to figure out how to adequately test my accounts controller. I am having problem testing the successful logon scenario. Issue 1) Am I missing any other tests.(I am testing the model validation attributes separately) Issue 2) Put_ReturnsOverviewRedirectToRouteResultIfLogonSuccessAndNoReturnUrlGiven() and Put_ReturnsRedirectResultIfLogonSuccessAndReturnUrlGiven() test are not passing. • Reciving UDP packets on iPhone

  I'm trying to establish UDP communication between a MAC OS and an iPod through Wi-Fi, at this point I'm able to send packets from the iPod and I can see those packets have the right MAC and ip addresses (I'm using wireshark to monitor the network) but the MAC receives the packets only when the wireshark is on, otherwise recvfrom() returns -1. When I try to transmit from MAC to iPhone I have the same result, I can see the packets are sent but the iPhone doesn't seem to get them. • wso2 ESB: server configuration CRITICAL

  My Scenario: I have server_1 (192.168.10.1) with wso2-ESB and server_2 (192.168.10.2) with Glassfish-v3 + web services. Problem: I am trying to create a proxy in ESB using the java Web Services, but the created proxy does not respond properly. The log says: Unable to sendViaPost for http or https does not change the result. I think I should configure the axis2.xml but I am having trouble, and don't know what to do. What is the configuration for my scenario? Please help me! EDIT: To be clear, I can directly consume the WebService in the Glassfish server, it works normal, both port and url are accessible. Only when I create a "Pass through Proxy" in the ESB, it does not work. I don't think is matter of Proxy configuration...I never had problems while deployed locally, problems started once I have uploaded the ESB to a remote server. I really would need someone to point me what is the correct procedure when installing the ESB on a remote host: configuration of axis2.xml and carbon.xml, ports, transport receivers etc... P.S. I had a look at the official (wso2 esb and carbon) guides with no luck, but I am missing something...   I'm having issues with getting DBI's IBM DB2 driver to work with mod_perl. I get this error in apache's error log: DBD::DB2::dr connect warning: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Apache/DBI.pm line 190. DBI connect('SAMPLE','username',...) failed: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified at /data/www/perl/test.pl line 15 First of all, why is it using ODBC? The native DB2 driver is installed (hence it works as CGI). Running Apache 2.2.3, mod_perl 2.0.4 under RHEL5. This guy had the same problem as me: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg22909.html But I have no idea how he fixed it. What does mod_php4 have to do with mod_perl? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm having no luck with google. Update: As james2vegas pointed out, the problem has something to do with PHP: I disable PHP all together I get the a different error: Total Environment allocation failure! Did you set up your DB2 client environment? I believe this error is to do with environment variables not being set up correctly, namely DB2INSTANCE. However, I'm not able to turn off PHP to resolve this problem (I need it for some legacy applications). So I now have 2 questions: How can I fix the original issue without disabling PHP all together? How can I fix the environment issue? I've set DB2INSTANCE, DB2_PATH and SQLLIB variables correctly using SetEnv and PerlSetEnv in httpd.conf, but with no luck. Note: I've edited the code to determine if the problem was to do with Global Variable Persistence.

  I've got an issue with the BasicAuthProvider in ServiceStack. POST-ing to the CredentialsAuthProvider (/auth/credentials) is working fine. The problem is that when GET-ing (in Chrome): http://foo:pwd@localhost:81/tag/string/list the following is the result Handler for Request not found: Request.HttpMethod: GET Request.HttpMethod: GET Request.PathInfo: /login Request.QueryString: System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection Request.RawUrl: /login?redirect=http%3a%2f%2flocalhost%3a81%2ftag%2fstring%2flist which tells me that it redirected me to /login instead of serving the /tag/... request.
