WordPress injection?

I don't really know how to express my problem, so bear with me. This is a bit hard to explain. I have a Wordpress installation, the latest, and often (once a day) my site redirects users to the /wp-admin/install.php file. Asking for my login credentials of course. I have tried reinstalling WordPress and still have not been able to figure what they are doing. That happens regularly. Also, a few hours later, I am able to see my site normally. Hope this makes sense. I suspect there myst be some database DoS that allows them to inject a redirect of some sort into my admin area, thus redirecting the user to said directory (install.php). But that's just me. I really have no clue what else could they be doing. I looked at the source code from several php files and noted some of them don't include a ? tag. Could that be an issue? My hosting company is iPage, I've contacted them and they say there's nothing wrong with my files. Anyone have a clue? I can paste the code to any source file.

Why can't I create an Alias Resource Record Set for an EC2 instance

I have been working with AWS for over a year, setting up EC2 instances, domains, ELBs, etc. When I want to assign a subdomain to an EC2 instance, I have to create an elastic IP (that I pay for), then assign a CNAME record to that elastic IP. When I want to assign a subdomain to an ELB (load balancer) instance, I just create an alias resource record set to the ELB. I've read over the docs and don't understand why AWS doesn't support aliasing to instances. Am I missing a key concept here? Wouldn't it be simpler to just alias EC2 instances and skip the whole elastic IP bit?

Ubuntu: Take actions when system temperature gets too high

One of the CPU fans on my Compaq Presario laptop running Ubuntu 9.10 seems to have bit the dust. The fan is deep within the case and I intend to replace the laptop in the next 6 months so it's not worth replacing it. I have the laptop on a cooling pad and most of the time the system is fine, CPU temps around 90°-110°F. Occasionally, however, I'm seeing random lockups which I believe is due to the system overheating. How can I configure the system to: Lower the CPU speed when the temperature reaches a certain level? (I.E. 110°F) Shutdown the system when the tempature reaches a critical level? (And what would that be? 130°?)

Kiosk view of remote machine X11vnc

I need to connect to a remote machine through vnc viewer applet embedded in a webpage. The remote machine will host a program running on the desktop connected through the viewer. I need to enable the viewers to view only the running application program without access to any other feature such as the desktop and/or the task bar. How can I achieve this? BTW, I am experimenting with x11vnc -id, -sid command options, but got no desired view. Please help as I am in a bit urgency.

How to rotate html5 canvas as page background?

Hi, I want to achieve the following: Image a white sheet of paper on a black desk. Then rotate the paper a little bit to the left (like, 25 degrees). Now you still have the black desk, and a rotated white box on it. In this rotated white box I want to place non-rotated normal html content like text, tables, div's etc. I already have a problem at the very first step: rotating a rectangle. Cacti is not monitoring the correct host... How do I change SNMP target?

I have been handed a Cacti server that monitors a few hosts. I noticed that three of the targets were displaying the exact same data - the cacti machine, machine a and machine b. After doing a bit of digging, I noticed that machine a and machine b had "Local Linux Machine" set under "Host Template". I have since changed the host template to "Generic SNMP-enabled Host", however, all the graphs still only display data from the local cacti machine (Updates every 5 minutes - I changed this yesterday - 12 hours). I can't think what else is wrong and was wondering if anyone knows/can recommend anything?

What is the advantage to using a factor of 1024 instead of 1000 for disk size units?

When considering the disk space of a storage medium, normally the computer or operating system will represent it in terms of powers of 1024 - a kilobyte is 1,024 bytes, a megabyte is 1,048,576 bytes, a gigabyte is 1,073,741,824 bytes, and so on. But I don't see any practical reason why this convention was adopted. Usually when disk size is represented in kilo-, mega-, or giga-bytes, it has to be converted into decimal first. In places where a power-of-two byte count actually matters (like the block size on a file system), the size is given in bytes anyway (e.g. 4096 bytes). Was it just a little aesthetic novelty that computer makers decided to adopt, but storage medium vendors decided to disregard? Whenever you buy a hard drive, there's always a disclaimer nowadays that says "One gigabyte means one billion bytes". It would feel like using the binary definition of "gigabyte" would artificially inflate the byte count of a device, making drive-makers have to pack 1.1 terabytes into a drive in order to have it show up as "1 TB", or to simply pack 1 terabyte in and have it show up as "931 GB" (and most of them do the latter). Some people have decided to use units like "KiB" or "MiB" in favour of "KB" and "MB" in order to distinguish the two. But is there any merit to the binary prefixes in the first place? There's probably a bit of old history I'm not aware of on this topic, and if there is, I'm looking for somebody to explain it. (Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I felt that a question on best practice might belong here, but I have faith that it will be migrated to the right place if it's incorrect.)

Reverse bash console text flow

Hi, This is a bit of a weird question and I'm not sure that there is any easy answer to it but I am very interested in finding a solution. So when I work on a linux machine via a console I find that I am constantly staring at the bottom of the screen, as once you have executed a bunch of commands text fills toward the bottom. Now I find that this is decidedly not good for my neck and it would be far better if instead of scrolling to the bottom, the text would scroll to the top instead. So does anyone out there know if there is a way to reverse the direction text appears in a console? Customize Colors for Sprites in Web Game

So I'm working on an html5/javascript/css3-based game. Without going into too much detail, I'm thinking of having the characters be simple 8 or 16-bit style sprites, but I'd like to allow the user to customize the colors of their character. Here are some examples of what I'm talking about : http://jsfiddle.net/simurai/CGmCe/light/ http://www.splashnology.com/article/sprite-animation-in-css3/1485/ So the problem I'm having is two-fold: 1) Should I use something other than a sprite map for my characters, like actually draw them as shapes and animate them in a canvas element? That way I can fill the sprite with colors of the user's choosing? My fear there is that this would be inefficient as far as resources and also waste a lot of time hand-drawing everything, but could allow other customization (like height/width etc). 2) Are there potentially some web apis that would allow you to alter colors inside of a sprite? I suppose I could do it on the back-end with GD, but I'm trying to make it entirely in-browser (including local storage). It's not a definitive one-answer only question, but I'm hoping someone can suggest something they've seen that approaches the same problem from another angle or gives us a way to customize the sprites or manipulate them in some manner. Or avoid them altogether, and use a different method.

Tinker Danilo Larizza needed to share internet access between apartments that are relatively close together but not hardwired–ruling out simply sharing the access via existing LAN infrastructure. Setup LDAP In WAMP

I'm having a really tough time getting the LDAP extensions to work in PHP on a WAMP server. Here is what I've done: Went to C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\modules and made sure that mod_ldap.so exists. I've gone into C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\conf\httpd.conf and made sure that this line is not commented out: LoadModule ldap_module modules/mod_ldap.so I've gone into C:\Program Files\PHP\php.ini and made sure this line is not commented out: extension=php_ldap.dll I've made sure C:\Program Files\PHP is in the Path I've made sure C:\Program Files\PHP contains libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll Restart apache phpinfo() still doesn't show mod_ldap as being turned on. It shows util_ldap under Loaded Modules, but that's the only reference anywhere to LDAP. For a bit more background, I originally posted this on SO.

Why is wireless slow with Atheros AR9285?

I know there are many posts like this, however none of the fixes I have found have worked. I had the issue on 11.04, and after having no luck fixing it decided to try 12.04 however this has not fixed the problem. MSDN Live 2010 – Delivered : 24 sessions (4 x 6) on Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server

We (Mikael Nitell and me) got a whole track on the Norwegian MSDN Live tour this year. We did these as a pair, and covered 4 cities over 4 days, 6 sessions per day, taking 8 hours to come through it. The Islandic volcano made the travels a bit rough, but we managed 6 flights out of 8. The first one had to go by van instead, 7-8 hour drive each way together with other MSDN Live presenters – a memorable tour! Oslo was the absolute top point. We had to change hall to a bigger one. People were crowding, and even the big hall was packed! The presentations were mostly based on demos, but we had a few slides as well. They have been uploaded to my SkyDrive. Info to aliens – some of the text may be Norwegian. These entries will also contain stuff we had to remove from the actual presentations due to the time constraints. Exchange Server Contact Categories - How to Remove/Update All

I've been tasked with cleaning up our companies contact database sitting on our Exchange Server 2003. The rub is this database of contacts has been neglected for the past couple of years and is now a bit messy. My issue is I have say a person named 'Bob Smith', and Bob is listed in multiple categories, 'Students' and 'Student'. I would really like to remove the 'Student' category from Bob and anyone else out there that has the same category. My question is, is there an easy way to edit the master category lists for contacts on the exchange server? I feel like I am missing something simple here since if I were playing with the categories that I use, to say organize email its very easy to do so, but I can't seem to find the proper way to do it for categories that are up on the server. I'm attempting to work through Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003. Any insight would be very helpful as I really don't want to change 8000+ contacts by hand.

Problem with Xen, xvda and sda

I am creating a cloud for my university using Eucalyptus with Xen (PCs have Debian Squeeze 64 bit installed). However, when I start the guest, these are mounted on xvda1 xvda2, provoking an error. Is there anything that I can do about that? It seems like it is a Xen error. Thank you in advance,

Dell U271 monitor DisplayPort suddenly not working

My new(ish) Dell U271 took a bit of a knock and it now suddenly doesn't recognise the Macbook plugged into it via DisplayPort - this had been working great for several months up until now. When I "Scan Sources", it doesn't find anything on DisplayPort. However, one suspicious behaviour leads me to think all might not be lost. When the Mac is woken from sleep, this used to kick the monitor in (as an monitor would) and while it no longer does that, the light on the monitor does go from standby orange to blue briefly, then the monitor says it's going into "power save" mode. It seems like it gets some kinda signal. Any ideas on how I can diagnose the problem? I'm trying to find another mac but no one near me has one ...

git for personal (one-man) projects. Overkill?

I know, and use, two version control systems: Subversion and git. Subversion, as of now, gets used for personal projects where I am the only developer and git gets used for open source projects and projects where I believe others will also work on the project. This is mostly because of git's amazing forking and merging capabilities, where everyone may work on their own branch; very handy. Now, I use Subversion for personal projects, as I think git makes little sense there. It seems to be a little bit of overkill. It is OK for me if it is centralized (on my home server, usually) when I am the only developer; I take regular backups anyway. I don't need the ability to make my own branch, the main branch is my branch. Yes, SVN has simple support for branching, but much more powerful support for it makes no sense, I think. Merging can be a pain with it, or at least from my little experience. Is there any good reason for me to use git on personal projects, or is it just simply overkill?

Sprites, Primitives and logic entity as structs

I'm wondering would it be considered acceptable: The window class is responsible for drawing data, so it will have a method: Window::draw(const Sprite&); Window::draw(const Rect&); Window::draw(const Triangle&); Window::draw(const Circle&); and all those primitives + sprites would be just public struct. For example Sprite: struct Sprite { float x, y; // center float origin_x, origin_y; float width, height; float rotation; float scaling; GLuint texture; Sprite(float w, float h); Sprite(float w, float h, float a, float b); void useTexture(std::string file); void setOrigin(float a, float b); void move(float a, float b); // relative move void moveTo(float a, float b); // absolute move void rotate(float a); // relative rotation void rotateTo(float a); // absolute rotation void rotationReset(); void scale(float a); // relative scaling void scaleTo(float a); // absolute scaling void scaleReset(); }; So instead of having each primitive to call their draw() function, which is a little bit off topic for their object, I let the Window class handle all the OpenGL stuff and manipulate them as simple objects that will be drawn later on. Is this pattern used? Does it have any cons against it's primitives-draw-themself pattern? Are there any other related patterns?

Securing RDP access to Windows Server 2008 R2: is Network Level Authentication enough?

I am a dev with little admin expertise, administering a single dedicated web server remotely. A recent independent security audit of our site recommended that "RDP is not exposed to the Internet and that a robust management solution such as a VPN is considered for remote access. When used, RDP should be configured for Server Authentication to ensure that clients cannot be subjected to man-in-the-middle attacks." Having read around a bit, it seems like Network Level Authentication is a Good Thing so I have enabled the "Allow connections only from Remote Desktop with NLA" option on the server today. Is this acion enough to mitigate the risk of a Man-in-the-Middle attack? Or are there other essential steps I should be taking? If VPN is essential, how do I go about it?

vector rotations for branches of a 3d tree

I'm attempting to create a 3d tree procedurally. I'm hoping that someone can check my vector rotation maths, as I'm a bit confused. I'm using an l-system (a recursive algorithm for generating branches). The trunk of the tree is the root node. It's orientation is aligned to the y axis. In the next iteration of the tree (e.g. the first branches), I might create a branch that is oriented say by +10 degrees in the X axis and a similar amount in the Z axis, relative to the trunk. I know that I should keep a rotation matrix at each branch, so that it can be applied to child branches, along with any modifications to the child branch. My questions then: for the trunk, the rotation matrix - is that just the identity matrix * initial orientation vector ? for the first branch (and subsequent branches) - I'll "inherit" the rotation matrix of the parent branch, and apply x and z rotations to that also. e.g. using glm::normalize; using glm::rotateX; using glm::vec4; using glm::mat4; using glm::rotate; vec4 vYAxis = vec4(0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f); vec4 vInitial = normalize( rotateX( vYAxis, 10.0f ) ); mat4 mRotation = mat4(1.0); // trunk rotation matrix = identity * initial orientation vector mRotation *= vInitial; // first branch = parent rotation matrix * this branches rotations mRotation *= rotate( 10.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f ); // x rotation mRotation *= rotate( 10.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f ); // z rotation Are my maths and approach correct, or am I completely wrong? Sound entirely stopped working on Windows 8 on a Macbook Pro

I am currently running Windows 8 (downloaded from DreamSpark) on a Macbook Pro. This worked fine for a while but suddenly all audio stopped working. When I go to "Playback devices" and hit "Test" on the speakers I get treated with the following message: This also shows up right after I try restarting. I tried disallowing exclusive usage of the devices but it makes no difference. Edit: After some looking around I tried changing the sample rate and bit depth so I would get a dialog screen to force Windows to go around the program that's using it. I did get the dialog but then instead of changing it I got the following error: Edit 2: I narrowed it down to a single service failing to start, the Multimedia Class Scheduler service fails to start with the following error:

Can't connect to hidden network with BCM4313

The wireless works fine with all the other wi-fi nets I have tried, the only problem is with this hidden network. I should add it's the only hidden network I've tried, so I am not sure if the problem is it being hidden or somethings else, but I've checked the settings of NetworkManager against another Ubuntu system (which can connect) and they appear to be the same, passphrase included. The network is using WPA2 Personal with AES encryption, I don't know how to check this setting but I believe it's the usual for WPA2, and therefore usually not a problem. Also, I can connect through ethernet, which should exclude any blacklisting of my device, I believe. I usually use brcmsmac drivers, I've tried also STA but the result is the same. I've also tried the suggestion from Unable to connect to hidden SSID with no luck output of lspci -v is 03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01) Subsystem: Askey Computer Corp. Just bought Logitech G35 headset, want to enable/disable headet in one action

Hello, Just bought Logitech G35 USB headset, want to enable/disable headet in one action. I have windows 7 64 bit, and currently, to switch from the headset to my spakers (or vice versa) without unplugging the headset, i have to go thru this steps: right click on the sound icon select "sounds" select the "Playback" tab right click headset and hit enable right click speakers and hit disable same steps when wanting to switch back I have to disable the devices, because not all of the programs which are outputting sound will switch immediately if I just set either device to default. I am looking for this to be a single action (either a batch script or a windows shortcut to some action with parameters?) Thanks!

Cannot access SWITCH thru VPN

I've VPN connection set up that i connect to company with. I can connect to all devices (other switches, routers, servers from same subnet with same settings just diffrent ip) but I can't connect to NetGear Router GS748Tv3. Settings on switch: IP address 192.168.1.8 Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Default gateway 192.168.1.1 Management VLAN ID: 0 (1 - 4094 or 0) (0 means all VLANs) Switch has 2 VLAN's configured 1 and 2. I can access this switch thru VPN if i log in to server and from server to switch but this is a little bit slower then normal way. Anything I'm missing?
