• IllegalArgumentException: width and height must be > 0 during zoomOut in Google MapView

  I'm trying to zoom in on a Google MapView on step in the oncreateMethod of my Activity. Everytime I try to zoom the map via the mapController I get an IllegalArgumentException: 04-15 10:16:51.012: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(528): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{com.innomos.couponimo.android.client/com.innomos.couponimo.android.client.ui.showstores.StoreMap}: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: width and height must be > 0 This Exception is thrown if I call the zoomOut or zoomIn function of MapController. Sadly the zoomIn function I'm using does not take any arguments. The onCreateMethod where I'm calling the zoom functions looks like this: mapView = (MapView) findViewById(R.id.map); mapView.setBuiltInZoomControls(true); MapController mapController = mapView.getController(); mapController.zoomIn(); I'm a little bit at loss here because I'm doing nothing special. • Error accessing a Web Service with SSL

  I have a program that is supposed to send a file to a web service, which requires an SSL connection. • Linux Distro for Beginners

  Well... I know that's the question arising all over the Internet, but I couldn't find an answer to suit me after googling for quite some time. I'd like to get a Linux distribution, and start learning using the CLI. I'm looking for a distribution already having GNOME installed, as I'll be using Linux-Command.org as my learning resource, and I'm not very familiar with CLI-based web browsers. I'd mainly like to get to know my way around a UNIX-based system, and then I think I'd like to pick up a CLI-only distribution, and start doing more complex stuff. I've tried Ubuntu, Fedora Core, OpenSolaris and FreeBSD (the last two aren't linux distros, I know). Ubuntu and FC are fine, they do come with Firefox, but I'm not really sure they're meant for learning purposes. OpenSolaris was OK as well, but I haven't got to play with it enough. FreeBSD 7.2 did not want to install itself on my 13" MacBook Pro, it generated a kernel panic everytime while copying the files to the disk. So to sum this up, I'm trying to learn Linux, and I'm willing to invest time into this (that is, not giving up when the first problems arise). I also have intermediate knowledge of C++, if it helps, and I'm also using the CLI-vim to write small C++ CLI-based programs, so text editing should be any problem. And... speaking of Macs, how am I going to be limited if I try to learn how to use UNIX-based systems using the OS X Terminal? It uses bash 3.2, isn't this the same shell as the one found on most of the Linux machines? How does the fact that OS X is based on FreeBSD 4.4, if I'm not mistaking, affect this? Thanks in advance, and hopefully, I'll have a starting point ASAP.

• How to stop UITableView moveRowAtIndexPath from leaving blank rows upon reordering

  I am having an issue where in reordering my UITableViewCells, the tableView is not scrolling with the cell. Only a blank row appears and any subsequent scrolling gets an Array out of bounds error without any of my code in the Stack Trace. Here is a quick video of the problem. • tinymce not working with chrome when i dynamically setcontent

Now, the Java versions on the two machines are slightly different. Both the machines have Sun's java, the Linux machine has 1.6.0_10, while the Windows machine has 1.6.0_08, or maybe 07 or 06, I can't remember the exact number right now, and don't have the machine at hand. But even though the minor versions of the Javas are slightly different, the code shouldn't break like this. Does anyone understand what's wrong here?

• TomTom GO & Ubuntu Linux: impersonating a GPRS phone with dund

  Background: I've called TomTom support, and they don't support Linux. I can get my GO 730 to mount Mass Storage, and I found a shell script that will allow me to install maps (haven't tried it; will update when I do.). As of note: USB 2.0 only. 1.1 ports will not work. However--I still can't update the TomTom or take advantage of any traffic services. The GO will connect to a mobile phone, but I don't have one that supports tethering. However, I've found a site that claims to know a way to get a Linux Machine to impersonate a phone advertising GPRS services and it apparently works in Fedora as old as FC4. I'm having some serious trouble getting this to work on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic, mainly because I think some of the built-in bluetooth stuff is getting in the way. Changing the class bits in main.conf (hcid.conf does not exist) doesn't crash..., and dund starts and listens, but the TomTom device never seems to want to connect to my machine. I haven't played around much with sdcptool (I think that's the name, not in front of a Linux machine right now) but maybe I have to advertise the DUN profile...I'm not very sure. My Question: I have no way to diagnose the problems. What are some diagnostic tools I can use to help dig down and figure out what's going on? Update: apparently dund is a legacy tool that's going away. What replaces it?

  Sometimes I have two trees that used to have the same content, but have grown out of sync (because I moved disks around or whatever). A good example is a tree where I mirror upstream packages from Fedora. I want to merge those two trees again by moving all of the files from tree1 into tree2. Usually I do this with: rsync -arv tree1/* tree2 Then delete tree1. However, this takes an awful lot of time and disk space, and it would be much easier to be able to do: mv -r tree1/* tree2 In other words, a recursive move. It would be faster because first of all it would not even copy, just move the inodes, and second I wouldn't need a delete at the end. Does this exist ? As a test case, consider the following sequence of commands: $ mkdir -p a/b $ touch a/b/c1 $ rsync -arv a/ a2 sending incremental file list created directory ./ b/ b/c1 b/c2 sent 173 bytes received 57 bytes 460.00 bytes/sec total size is 0 speedup is 0.00 $ touch a/b/c2 What command would now have the effect of moving a/b/c2 to a2/b/c2 and then deleting the a subtree (since everything in it is already in the destination tree) ?

  I have a JSON result that contains numerous records. I'd like to show the first five records in one page and create pager links which have to move to that page with five record so on. I don't want the page to refresh which is why I'm hoping a combination of JavaScript and jQuery... • Is it possible to be a Linux professional studying on your own?

  I read economics at university(nothing to see with linux, isn't it? :P). I have some basic knowledge about booting process, Linux Kernel compiling from source and stuff like that. But of course I have still much to learn sometimes some errors appears and "voila" I am lost. I had: Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSuse, Arch.. using Gentoo now. I'd like to know what you linux users, professionals, administrators... would think it is the best way to learn linux in a professional way. Is it worth studying it and passing the LPIC test enough to work in the linux world? or do I need going to IT uni? I've heard LFS is a good way of learning about linux, is that real? I've been thinking about getting to LFS learn about more deeply about the linux process and learning scripts. • Where should CentOS users get /usr/share/virtio-win/drivers for virt-v2v?

  I need to migrate a number of virtual machines from VMware ESX to CentOS 6 KVM hypervisors. Ultimately, I wrote an RPM spec file that solved my problem at https://github.com/fasrc/virtio-win/blob/master/virtio-win.spec but I'm not sure if there's another RPM in base CentOS or EPEL (something standard) I should be using instead. Originally, I was getting this "No root device found in this operating system image" error when attemting to migrate a Window 2008 VM. . . [root@kvm01b ~]# virt-v2v -ic 'esx://my-vmware-hypervisor.example.com/' \ -os transferimages --network default my-vm virt-v2v: No root device found in this operating system image. . . . but I solved this with a simply yum install libguestfs-winsupport since the docs say: If you attempt to convert a virtual machine using NTFS without the libguestfs-winsupport package installed, the conversion will fail. Next I got an error about missing drivers for Windows 2008. . . [root@kvm01b ~]# virt-v2v -ic 'esx://my-vmware-hypervisor.example.com/' \ -os transferimages --network default my-vm my-vm_my-vm: 100% [====================================]D virt-v2v: Installation failed because the following files referenced in the configuration file are required, but missing: /usr/share/virtio-win/drivers/amd64/Win2008 . . . and I resolved this by grabbing an iso from Fedora at http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/virtio-win/latest/ as recommended by http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/WindowsGuestDrivers/Download_Drivers and building an RPM from it with this spec file: https://github.com/fasrc/virtio-win/blob/master/virtio-win.spec Now, virt-v2v exits without error: [root@kvm01b ~]# virt-v2v -ic 'esx://my-vmware-hypervisor.example.com/' \ -os transferimages --network default my-vm my-vm_my-vm: 100% [====================================]D virt-v2v: my-vm configured with virtio drivers.   of course), I have a number of DNS servers, all running bind9 (9.5.1, to be specific) under fedora. 4 of them are slaves, fed by a common master for our public DNS. These are all located on the public gateways of our various offices. One of them has tons of messages in its log files similar to these: Jul 21 17:26:18 gateway named[3487]: client 10.171.3.8#52500: view internal: error sending response: host unreachable I wonder where that comes from. The firewall is open on port 53 between the two machines (10.171.3.8 is an internal DNS server located on a Windows Domain Controller). The internal domains do NOT list the gateway as a name server (so there should not be any attempts of replicating the domains), and the gateway does not handle any internal DNS. The clients in these messages vary between the two domain controllers on the internal network and a third internal name server (running bind9 on debian in a different segment of the network). Any pointers are highly welcome. In response to the first reply: The issue with this really is that tcpdump doesn't show any problems. Here is an extract from "tcpdump -i any port 53" 09:13:38.283308 IP valine.aminocom.com.61815 ns-pri.ripe.net.domain: 14075 PTR? 166.225.58.95.in-addr.arpa. (42) At the same time, the DNS log shows: Jul 22 09:13:38 gateway named[3487]: client 10.171.3.6#61300: view internal: error sending response: host unreachable Jul 22 09:13:40 gateway named[3487]: client 10.172.3.12#56230: view internal: error sending response: host unreachable Jul 22 09:13:40 gateway named[3487]: client 10.171.3.8#55221: view internal: error sending response: host unreachable Jul 22 09:13:49 gateway named[3487]: client 10.171.3.8#51342: view internal: error sending response: host unreachable So clearly at 09:13:40 there were two unsuccessful attempts to connect to internal machines (10.172.3.12 and 10.171.3.8, both are DNS servers), but nothing in the tcpdump output.

• Which OAuth library do you find works best for Objective-C/iPhone?

  I have been looking to switch to OAuth for my Twitter integration code and now that there is a deadline in less than 7 weeks (see countdown link) it is even more important to make the jump to OAuth. I have been doing Basic Authentication which is extremely easy. Unfortunately OAuth does not appear to be something that I would whip together in a couple of hours. http://www.countdowntooauth.com/ So I am looking to use a library. I have put together the following list. MPOAuth MGTwitterEngine OAuthConsumer I see that MPOAuth has some great features with a good deal of testing code in place but there is one big problem. It does not work. The sample iPhone project that is supposed to authenticate with Twitter causes an error which others have identified and logged as a bug. http://code.google.com/p/mpoauthconnection/issues/detail?id=29 The last code change was March 11 and this bug was filed on March 30. It has been over a month and this critical bug has not been fixed yet. So I have moved on to MGTwitterEngine. I pulled down the source code and loaded it up in Xcode. Immediately I find that there are a few dependencies and the README file does not have a clear list of steps to fetch those dependencies and integrate them with the project so that it builds successfully. I see this as a sign that the project is not mature enough for prime time. I see also that the project references 2 libraries for JSON when one should be enough. One is TouchJSON which has worked well for me so I am again discouraged from relying on this project for my applications. I did find that MGTwitterEngine makes use of OAuthConsumer which is one of many OAuth projects hosted by an OAuth project on Google Code. http://code.google.com/p/oauth/ http://code.google.com/p/oauthconsumer/wiki/UsingOAuthConsumer It looks like OAuthConsumer is a good choice at first glance. It is hosted with other OAuth libraries and has some nice documentation with it. I pulled down the code and it builds without errors but it does have many warnings. And when I run the new Build and Analyze feature in Xcode 3.2 I see 50 analyzer results. Many are marked as potential memory leaks which would likely lead to instability in any app which uses this library. It seems there is no clear winner and I have to go with something before the big Twitter OAuth deadline. Any suggestions?

• ModalPopup CodeBehind Function Wait For User Response

  I have set up a function which returns an enum of the button that the user clicked in the ModalPopup. I have a variable of type enum to store which button the user clicks in the button click event. In this function, I call the ModalPopupExtender's Show() method. My problem is, the function finishes out and returns the default enum (which is "none" since no button was clicked yet) before the ModalPopup can be shown and store which button the user clicks. So without changing the function to a method and using a different way to store the user's button click, how can I pause the function after the Show() method of the MPE has been called and wait for the user to click a button? Edit(11/20/2009): Clarification: On the aspx page, I include a ScriptManager, PlaceHolder, and an asp:Button with a codebehind click event. What I want is to click the button, then in the click event handler, I want to call a custom static class function that returns a variable. One of the arguments it takes is the PlaceHolder. The function creates all the necessary controls in the PlaceHolder needed to display a ModalPopup. It calls the created ModalPopupExtender's Show() method. What should happen: At this point is the ModalPopup gets displayed, the user clicks a button, that button's event handler fires, the button sets a variable indicating that it was clicked, it then calls the ModalPopupExtender's .Hide() method, and then the function returns the variable that indicates which button was clicked. We then return to the event handler from the original button that was clicked and the programmer can then perform some logic based on what variable was returned. Crux: When the ModalPopupExtender's .Show() method gets called, it does not display the ModalPopup until AFTER the function returns a default variable (because no button was clicked yet) and after the event handler from the original button that was clicked ends. What I need: After the ModalPopupExtender's .Show() method is called, I need the ModalPopup to get displayed immediately and I need the function to wait for a button click to be made from the ModalPopup. My thoughts: Some PostBack needs to be made to the page telling it to update and display the ModalPopup Panel. Then maybe a while loop can be run in the function that waits for a button to be clicked in the ModalPopup.
