I tried to do it like this: placeHolder.setImageDrawable(myDrawb); but it looks like the old image remains there and it is partially covered but the new one (which in my case has different shape). hope you guys can help! cheers

  • Unknown Apache2 + PHP5 FastCGI 500 error .. caused by search engine bots?

    My Ubuntu server is configured with Apache 2.2.8 and PHP 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.18 in FastCGI mode.     Xen and Virtualbox etc both support a range of different virtual machine image formats. These are: vmdk, vdi, qcow & qcow2, hdd & vhd. Without any bias toward a particular product, I'm wanting to know what are the advantages and disadvantages of the various formats both from a features perspective, robustness and speed? One piece of info I discovered in a forum post was this: "The major difference is that VDI uses relatively large blocks (1MB) when growing an image, and thus has less overhead for block pointers etc. but isn't ultimately space efficient in the sense that if a single byte is non-zero in such a 1MB block the entire space is used. VMDK in contrast uses 64K blocks, and thus has more management overhead and generally a bit less disk space consumption What offsets this is that VDI is more efficient when it comes to snapshots." You might be thinking, I want to know this because I want to know which format to choose? Not exactly, I'm developing some software which utilises these formats and want to support one or more of them. Simplicity, large disks and ease of development are my main drivers.

  • Do registry issues with Win7 persist through a recovery from a system image?

    So I need a bit of advice, please; here's my situation: I have 1) a system image on an a brand new external 1 TB SATA drive, that I managed to successfully capture before my 2) primary system drive went down. I realize this is a fairly simple matter of buying a new primary drive and performing the recovery to the fresh disk...however, the issue is that I believe Win7 was also having some significant issues of its own--basically, Update unable to install updates, and Backup continually ditching the auto backup schedule. I'd been trying to address those issues when my system was still working, but it's been so fruitless, I'm convinced a Win7 re-install would be best, and now I'm concerned that if I was in fact having what I believe are likely registry-related issues before, that these will persist through a recovery--would that likely be correct? I'm mainly worried about recovering my files, so if I did a full recovery from the image, should I be able to then access my individual files, and copy them manually to an external drive, so I can then do a full re-install of Win7? Sory if this seems obvious, but I've never done a recovery before and just trying to make sure there's no red flags with what I have in mind...

    How to make an "import image" button/field in a PDF form? I am designing a "Lost Pet" poster for a local animal shelter. The idea is to make a PDF file that users of the shelter's website can download, insert their pet's information, and then print it out if their pet goes missing. I will be designing the poster in InDesign CS3, and then exporting it to a PDF file. I will then add form fields for the user to fill out. I am ok with making text entry form fields. That is a simple matter. What's not so simple is figuring out a way to allow the user to insert a photo of their lost pet into the PDF, save the file, and then print it out with the photo in it. I am running Adobe Acrobat Professional 8. I am running it on a Mac. All of the searches I've done have told me that if I was running Acrobat in Windows, I'd have access to this other program called LiveCycle Designer which has pre-built form item libraries, including a Image Field. But I cannot find any similar option on the Mac version. Has anyone has any experience doing something like this? If so, I could certainly use some tips on making this work. Just a quick clarification... This is a volunteer design project that I am doing for the shelter, so I don't want to spend money on any extra software/addons at all. I am hoping this can be done somehow with the pre-existing software I have.

    I successfully encrypted a VM image and confirmed it still runs. I then closed the VM and reopened it and confirmed the encryption password was valid and worked. However, now I want to un-encrypt the VM. When I choose that option, it asks for "your password". I assume this means the password I created when I encrypted it. It doesn't work. I can still open the VM with the password and run it. But, it refuses to remove the encryption using that password. Am I missing something? Is there a password that I don't know about? Some details: I created this image (using standalone converter; physical machine source) I converted it to ACE Converted back to a normal VM (un-ACE'd it) Encrypted it Cannot remove the encryption but can open it and run it As you can see...   • Kindle (client) for Mac--text search or highlighting/notes?

    just so we're clear, i'm talking about the client/software version here--ie, that you install on your Mac or PC--not the device. The Kindle client was recently released for the Mac. I downloaded it and bought a couple of Kindle-edition books to view on this client. Astonishingly, two features i consider to be more or less essential to any ebook reader are missing in the Kindle client, either that, or i can't find them: (i) text searching; and (ii) highlighting text. First, does anyone know how to access the search feature? I'm aware of the "Go To" button at the top middle of the reader window--the options in that menu when you click the button are: "Cover", "Table of Contents", "Beginning" and "Location." "Location" requires that you type in an integer (but it doesn't correspond to page number--e.g., typing "167" brought me to the table of contents), not a search term. Second, there's a button on the upper right-hand corner of the window "Show Notes and Marks" yet i can't find any way to highlight text. The only kind of "note" or "mark" i have been able to record is to "bookmark" a page by clicking the "bookmark" button also at the top of the window.

    Does image block save internet bandwidth usage. I have a data capped plan from my ISP ( 5GB at 2mbps and thereafter 256 kpbs / pm). I doubt if the addon or other similar addon actually saves bandwidht. Here is my point of view, pls correct if that is wrong. When a request is sent to the server, the server sends out whatever page it's requested to serve with all its text and images etc. So essentially my ISP has made his pipe available for the data to reach me thus he would count those bytes under my data plan. When the data arrives it's all first stored to my browser cache (folder) area which means all the data has actually been received by me/computer using my ISP's pipe. The browser then fetches those data from the cache and displays it. By hitting the stop button or blocking images via ur addon I am just choosing not to display the data which would remain in the cache or eventually be discarded if still on the network pipe after a timeout limit. The point is the data request have been completed by the ISP and so the data would be metered and thus using addon such as image block or hitting stop button while page is loading does not in any way save internet bandwidth.   • Can't create system image. 0x80780119 error after upgrade from 8 to 8.1

    I have upgraded my Windows 8 PC to 8.1 yesterday and it seemed like everything is working fine until I tried to create System Image. I got an error 0x80780119 saying that there is to little space on one of the partitions. I started looking into this problem and indeed one of the partitions does not meet the requirements. There are following partitions on my drive: DISKPART> list partition Partition ### Type Size Offset ------------- ---------------- ------- ------- Partition 1 Recovery 300 MB 1024 KB Partition 2 System 100 MB 301 MB Partition 3 Reserved 128 MB 401 MB Partition 4 Primary 74 GB 529 MB Partition 5 Primary 390 GB 75 GB Partition 1 has only 13MB free space. Partition 2 has 70MB free space, partition 3 is MSFTRES, partition 4 is my C drive with around 35GB free and partition 5 is not included in system image. Partitions were create like this during installation of Windows 8 - clean install from scratch. I am using UEFI so the drive is GPT formatted. So I thought, OK I can resize my C drive a little, move the partitions and expand the 1st one. I tried using GParted but it is not able to move the MSFTRES partition. It does not recognize the file system on it. So the question is: Is it possible to "clean up" the 1st partition in anyway? If not, is there anything special about MSFTRES partition? Or can I just remove it and create it a little further and just flag it as msftres with GParted?

  • Using the HTML5 &lt;input type=&quot;file&quot; multiple=&quot;multiple&quot;&gt; Tag in ASP.NET

    Per HTML5 spec the <input type="file" /> tag allows for multiple files to be picked from a single File upload button. This is actually a very subtle change that's very useful as it makes it much easier to send multiple files to the server without using complex uploader controls. Please understand though, that even though you can send multiple files using the <input type="file" /> tag, the process of how those files are sent hasn't really changed - there's still no progress information or other hooks that allow you to automatically make for a nicer upload experience without additional libraries or code. For that you will still need some sort of library (I'll post an example in my next blog post using plUpload). All the new features allow for is to make it easier to select multiple images from disk in one operation. Where you might have required many file upload controls before to upload several files, one File control can potentially do the job. How it works To create a file input box that allows with multiple file support you can simply do:<form method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <label>Upload Images:</label> <input type="file" multiple="multiple" name="File1" id="File1" accept="image/*" /> <hr /> <input type="submit" id="btnUpload" value="Upload Images" /> </form> Now when the file open dialog pops up - depending on the browser and whether the browser supports it - you can pick multiple files. Here I'm using Firefox using the thumbnail preview I can easily pick images to upload on a form: Note that I can select multiple images in the dialog all of which get stored in the file textbox. The UI for this can be different in some browsers. For example Chrome displays 3 files selected as text next to the Browse… button when I choose three rather than showing any files in the textbox. Most other browsers display the standard file input box and display the multiple filenames as a comma delimited list in the textbox. Note that you can also specify the accept attribute in the <input> tag, which specifies a mime-type to specify what type of content to allow.Here I'm only allowing images (image/*) and the browser complies by just showing me image files to display. Likewise I could use text/* for all text formats registered on the machine or text/xml to only show XML files (which would include xml,xst,xsd etc.). Capturing Files on the Server with ASP.NET When you upload files to an ASP.NET server there are a couple of things to be aware of. When multiple files are uploaded from a single file control, they are assigned the same name. In other words if I select 3 files to upload on the File1 control shown above I get three file form variables named File1. This means I can't easily retrieve files by their name:HttpPostedFileBase file = Request.Files["File1"]; because there will be multiple files for a given name. The above only selects the first file. Instead you can only reliably retrieve files by their index. Below is an example I use in app to capture a number of images uploaded and store them into a database using a business object and EF 4.2.for (int i = 0; i < Request.Files.Count; i++) { HttpPostedFileBase file = Request.Files[i]; if (file.ContentLength == 0) continue; if (file.ContentLength > App.Configuration.MaxImageUploadSize) { ErrorDisplay.ShowError("File " + file.FileName + " is too large. The important thing here is that I iterate over the files by index, rather than using a foreach loop over the Request.Files collection. The files collection returns key name strings, rather than the actual files (who thought that was good idea at Microsoft?), and so that isn't going to work since you end up getting multiple keys with the same name. Instead a plain for loop has to be used to loop over all files. Another Option in ASP.NET MVC If you're using ASP.NET MVC you can use the code above as well, but you have yet another option to capture multiple uploaded files by using a parameter for your post action method.public ActionResult Save(HttpPostedFileBase[] file1) { foreach (var file in file1) { if (file.ContentLength < 0) continue; // do something with the file }} Note that in order for this to work you have to specify each posted file variable individually in the parameter list. This works great if you have a single file upload to deal with. You can also pass this in addition to your main model to separate out a ViewModel and a set of uploaded files:public ActionResult Edit(EntryViewModel model,HttpPostedFileBase[] uploadedFile) You can also make the uploaded files part of the ViewModel itself - just make sure you use the appropriate naming for the variable name in the HTML document (since there's Html.FileFor() extension). Browser Support You knew this was coming, right? The feature is really nice, but unfortunately not supported universally yet. Once again Internet Explorer is the problem: No shipping version of Internet Explorer supports multiple file uploads. IE10 supposedly will, but even IE9 does not. All other major browsers - Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera - support multi-file uploads in their latest versions. So how can you handle this? If you need to provide multiple file uploads you can simply add multiple file selection boxes and let people either select multiple files with a single upload file box or use multiples. Alternately you can do some browser detection and if IE is used simply show the extra file upload boxes. It's not ideal, but either one of these approaches makes life easier for folks that use a decent browser and leaves you with a functional interface for those that don't. Here's a UI I recently built as an alternate uploader with multiple file upload buttons: I say this is my 'alternate' uploader - for my primary uploader I continue to use an add-in solution. Specifically I use plUpload and I'll discuss how that's implemented in my next post. Although I think that plUpload (and many of the other packaged JavaScript upload solutions) are a better choice especially for large uploads, for simple one file uploads input boxes work well enough. The advantage of this solution is that it's very easy to handle on the server side.   • ATI propriatery drivers install latest 12.8, broke my kernel. Stuck on kernel 3.2.0-26

    I messed up a bit. Hoping some here can help me. I tried to install the newest catalyst 12.8. Sadly, this broke my system. I was stuck in low graphics mode. I finally managed to restore the proprietary drivers, and get into ubuntu again. But now I am stuck on kernel 3.2.0.26. I had installed kernel 3.2.0-30, but the system no longer sees it. I have kernel 3.2.0-29 too, but the system cannot see that as well. In the grub menu. When I use sudo update-grub, they are both listed. Here are the output I get: Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub Cannot determine root device.
