• [C#] how do I get the height of a rich text content after word wrap?

  Question A. Given 1. A string in rich text format that may have paragraph, tabs, space, line break, indentation, (or even image?) 2. A width for the word wrapping rich text control/editor How do I know the height of the content after it have performed all the word wrapping? Is there something like int MeasureRichTextHeightAfterWordWrap(string aRichTextContent, int aWidth)? Otherwise how does those rich text control know how much to autosize? Do I have to actually place the content on a dummy rich text control and get its height afterwards? Question B. Similar to question A but in plain text onto a plain text memo/control/editor. And manually draw string with manually calculated indentations, breaks, word wrappings. Is it easier or harder?

• OpenVPN not sending traffic to internet?

  I've set up openvpn on my pi and am running into a small issue. I can connect to the VPN server and ping it just fine, and I can also connect to other machines on my local network. I don't think it's my client because both my laptop and my phone (which has an openvpn client) exhibit the same behavior. I had OpenVPN installed on this pi before using debian and it worked, so I don't think it's my router but of course anything is possible.

• jQuery events .load(), .ready(), .unload()

  Hi folks, Just a simple question, for the jquery event. Are the .load(), .ready() and .unload() run in order when the DOM is loaded? The answer seems yes when I see the jQuery Documentation. <script type="text/javascript"> $(window).load(function () { // run code initializeCode(); }); $(document).ready(function() { //run code that MUST be after initialize }); $(window).unload(function() { Cleanup(); }); </script> However, the code inside the .ready() is execute before the initializeCode(); is execute, so I feel really strange. And now I have to place my code inside the .onload() method and just after the initializeCode(); line, which means to be inside the .ready() block. Could someone explain me more about this, as I am new to jQuery. Thank you so much.

  Hi, I've got a value object, which stores info for example amount. The getAmount() getter returns amount in cents. However in various places, we need to get amount in dollar. There are 2 approaches I can think of: write a convert method and place it in a utility class. add a getAmountInDollar() getter in the value object. I prefer the second approach. What do you think? What are pros and cons of both approaches?

  Today I was bitten again by "Mutable default arguments" after many years. I usually don't use mutable default arguments unless needed but I think with time I forgot about that, and today in the application I added tocElements=[] in a pdf generation function's argument list and now 'Table of Content' gets longer and longer after each invocation of "generate pdf" :) My question is what other things should I add to my list of things to MUST avoid? Mutable default arguments Import modules always same way e.g. from y import x and import x are different things, they are treated as different modules. • ubuntu eth0 not reconnecting after cable unplugged

  I'm running kubuntu 9.10 w/ gnome, I have a static IP defined in /etc/network/interfaces When I unplugged my network cable and rebooted, then reconnected the network cable I was not able to connect. I tried using sudo ifup eth0, and then ifconfig and it seemed as though the IP address had been assigned and I was connected, but I wasn't. I then did ifdown eth0, and again ifup eth0. For some reason I'm not able to access the network. Furthermore, I also attempted to connect via wlan, and was able to connect to the wireless network, but cannot "see" the network. I can't transfer data or access the internet or anything on the network including the router. • Using malloc/free in Objective-C object

  I have a class AudioManager with a member of type AudioBufferList *. (This is a struct declared in the CoreAudio framework). Since AudioBufferList is not a NSObject, I cannot retain it, so I have to alloc/free it (correct me if I'm wrong). My question is, where is the 'right' place to free it? Currently I am doing it in the dealloc method of AudioManager. If I understand correctly, this method is invoked automatically once the release message is sent to the instance of AudioManager --- is that true? Is there any other recommended practice regarding using alloc/free on non-objects members of Objective-C objects? Edit: From Apples documentation: Subclasses must implement their own versions of dealloc to allow the release of any additional memory consumed by the object—such as dynamically allocated storage for data or object instance variables owned by the deallocated object. After performing the class-specific deallocation, the subclass method should incorporate superclass versions of dealloc through a message to super: Which makes things a little bit clearer - but more insights are appreciated.

• How to add IP range to a server?

  Hello, First of all I must say that I'm ver inexperienced server and network user. But I rented a unmanaged dedicated server. Well I didn't know what unmanaged really means, then I learned it when I needed support. Well I must do everything by myself. I have a problem. I had already 4 IPs on my server when I rented it. But then I needed more Ips and my server assigned me 32 Ips in which I can only use 27 of them. 85.25.230.0 - 85.25.230.31 this is my Ip range and they say the following Ips must not be configured on the server: 85.25.230.0 - network address 85.25.230.1 - gateway address 85.25.230.2 - router redundancy 85.25.230.3 - router redundancy 85.25.230.31 - broadcast address But the problem is ok Ips are assigned to me but they are not setup on my server. How will I setup Ips to work on my server? I did this after my reseach on google: I used this command on command prompt: route add 85.25.230.0 mask 255.255.255.224 85.25.230.1 metric 1 if then it said OK!. and I thought they should be working. (btw, mask is given to me by my ISP and I don't know metric 1 and if means I just saw it on the net and write it here) I setup my domains via using Plesk Kontrol Panel. So i added one domain and setup one of my new Ips 85.25.230.5 to it. But no it is not working. When I visit the domain via browser, there is a Plesk page comes and says this domain is not configured on the server. Then I changed the domains Ip to one of my old Ips which are given to me with the server and which I have been using for my other domains for a long time. Ok in a second, domain started working. I set it back to my new Ip and domain did not work. As I said, I'm not an expert and do not now the logic. But I'm eager to learn. Can you tell me what might couse the problem and did I do wrong while setting up IP RANGE to my server, if so how can I set them up? Thank you, Efe

Today I desided to find out what is inside Sistem.Web.dll version 4.0.0.0 So I decided to find the place where this assembly located. and opened this assembly with reflector - all methods were empty - and then with ilDasm from 7.0 SDK. This what I saw After some research I've found fullfeatured assemblies in gac. Actualy here C:\Windows\assembly\NativeImages_v4.0.30319_32\System.Web\82087f17d3b3f9c493e7261d608a6af4 They are much larger in size. So why does references goes not to the gac, but to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.0\ Why don't they have IL inside? How does it works? Mabe I don't understand something.

• Calling activateWindow on QDialog sends window to background

  I am debugging certain application written with C++/Qt4. On Linux it has problems that with certain window managers (gnome-wm/metacity), the main window (based on QDialog) is created in the background (it's not raised). This seems wrong, since documentation for activateWindow does not specify any conditions under which something like this could happen. My question is: Is there any reason to have activateWindow in showEvent in the first place? If there is some reason, what would be good workaround for focusing issues?

  Hi, I have a little problem which I could not solve. I really hope someone can help me with that. I wanted to resize the live camera view and place it in the center, using the following code below: picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformScale(picker.cameraViewTransform, 0.5, 0.56206); picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformTranslate(picker.cameraViewTransform, 80, 120); But all I got was a scaled 1/2 sized view on the top left of the screen. It seems as though "CGAffineTransformTranslate" does nothing at all. The translation didn't work even when I used: picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformMake(1, 0, 0, 1, 80, 120); The translation portion seems to have no effect on the live camera view. Hope someone can enlighten me. Thanks.

• Ajax call from Bookmarklet

  I am trying to create a bookmarklet that, upon clicking, would request some information from the user (a url and a couple other fields in this case) and then send that data to a php page on my server and then display the result. I would like to do an Ajax call for this so that I don't actually redirect to the new page, just get the data but I assume I would run into the "Same Origin Policy" limitation of Ajax.... is there any known way of basically doing the same thing? Also, what would be the best way to pass the parameters? I already have a mechanism in place to recieve the parameters as a post message from a form...is there any way I could just reuse this?

  Hi All. I'm trying to run an application on Red5 server. It has the same basic functionality as the bundled demo named OFLADemo. So I installed Red5 and was able to see the welcome screen. I installed an app and tried the demo flash and all went well... But when I tried to install that particular application from /installer I got stuck with a dialog box with this message: installing oflaDemo-r3989-java6.war This may take a couple minutes, please wait. Waited for hours instead of minutes, but nothing happened. I was able to get that specific file from google code, but I don't know where to extract/place it. Any clues?

• What is the correct way to backup ZODB blobs?

  I am using plone.app.blob to store large ZODB objects in a blobstorage directory. This reduces size pressure on Data.fs but I have not been able to find any advice on backing up this data. I am already backing up Data.fs by pointing a network backup tool at a directory of repozo backups. Should I simply point that tool at the blobstorage directory to backup my blobs? What if the database is being repacked or blobs are being added and deleted while the copy is taking place? Are there files in the blobstorage directory that must be copied over in a certain order?

• Spring validator default message codes not resolving

  Hi all, I have a custom spring validator which has the following default message: public @interface FieldMatch { String message() default "au.com.xxx.website.FieldMatchValidation"; ... The problem I'm having is that the message code is not being resolved and <form:error...> is simply displaying the code rather than the message (Which is in a properties file which is being used by a ResourceBundleMessageSource). I've also tried this as String message() default "{au.com.xxx.website.FieldMatchValidation}"; Which causes the message source to crash with an exception indicating that it thinks that the "{}" brackets should contain a number because it thinks it's a parameter place holder. I think that the issue is that the message code is not being seen as a message code and therefore not resolved, but I cannot figure out why. Any suggestions?

• How to return a dynamic value from a Mocha mock in Ruby

  The gist of my problem is as follows:- I'm writing a Mocha mock in Ruby for the method represented as "post_to_embassy" below. It is not really our concern, for the purpose of describing the problem, what the actual method does. But I need the mock to return a dynamic value. The proc '&prc' below is executing rightly in place of the actual method. But the "with" method in Mocha only allows for boolean values to be returned. So the code below outputs nil. I need it to output the value being passed through orderInfoXml. • How to split a path platform independent?

  I'm using the following code to get an array with all sub directories from a given path. String[] subDirs = path.split(File.separator); I need the array to check if certain folders are at the right place in this path. This looked like a good solution until findBugs complains that File.separator is used as a regular expression. It seems that passing the windows file separator to a function that is building a regex from it is a bad idea because the backslash being an escape character. How can I split the path in a cross platform way without using File.separator? Or is code like this okay? String[] subDirs = path.split("/");

  Hello All, I'm taking a discrete mathematics course, and I encountered a question and I need your help. I don't know if this is the right place for that though :) It says: Each user on a computer system has a password, which is six to eight characters long, where each character is an uppercase letter or a digit. Each password must contain at least one digit. How many possible passwords are there? The book solves this by adding the probabilities of having six,seven and eight characters long password. However, when he solves for probability of six characters he does this P6 = 36^6 - 26^6 and does P7 = 36^7 - 26^7 and P8 = 36^8 - 26^8 and then add them all I understand the solution, but my question is why doesn't calculating, P6 = 10*36^5 and the same for P7 and P8, work? 10 for the digit and 36 for the alphanumeric? Also, if anyone could give me another solution, other than the one in the book. Thank you very much :)

• UISegmentedControl register taps on selected segment

  Hi, I have a segmented control where the user can select how to order a list. Works fine. However, I would like that when an already selected segment is tapped, the order gets inverted. I have all the code in place, but I don't know how to register the taps on those segments. It seems the only control event you can use is UIControlEventValueChanged, but that isn't working (since the selected segment isn't actually changing). Is there a solution for this? And if so, what is it? Thanks in advance!

Both :CREATE and :DONTCREATE seem to run regardless? How do I do an If properly then? Output: A subdirectory or file C:\App\Code already exists. DIRECTORY CREATED IT WAS ALREADY THERE So it enters both true and false statements? 2) The app is a C# WPF app. For what I am trying to do here (create a couple of directories if they don't already exist) - should I do it some other way? Perhaps in the application as it runs?

• nginx, php-cgi and "No input file specified."

  I'm trying to get nginx to play nice with php-cgi, but it's not quite working how I'd like. I'm using some set variables to allow for dynamic host names--basically anything.local. I know that stuff is working because I can access static files properly, however php files don't work. I get the standard "No input file specified." error which normally occurs when the file doesn't exist, but it definitely does exist and the path is correct because I can access the static files in the same path. It could possibly be a permissions thing, but I'm not sure how that could be an issue. I'm running this on Windows under my own user account, so I think it should have permission unless php-cgi is running under a different user without me telling it to. . • Doctrine Mssql uniqueidentifier isn't cast as char or nvarchar when retrieved from the database.

  When I retrieve a record from the database which has a column of type "uniqueidentifier", Doctrine fills it with "null" rather than the unique id from the database. Some research and testing has brought this down to a PDO/dblib driver issue. When directly querying via PDO, null is returned in place of the unique id. For reference, http://trac.doctrine-project.org/ticket/1096, has a bit on this, however, it was updated 11 months ago with no comment for resolution. A way around this, as mentioned at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=24752&edit=1, is to cast the column as a char. However, it doesn't seem Doctrine exposes the native field type outside of generating models which makes it a bit hard to detect uniqueidentifier types and cast them internally when building the sql query.
