• Exchange 2013 attachments too big?

  I am having the toughest time sending large attachments, everywhere I have checked my file size limit for send/receive is 100mb but yet users are unable to receive files even at the size of 14mb. I'm using a spam filter (Appriver) and have worked with there support for a very long time, we see the following errors in logs 13:32:40.260 4 SMTP-000036([myserverIP]) rsp: 354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF> 13:33:41.038 3 SMTP-000033([myserverIP]) write failed. Error Code=connection reset by peer 13:33:41.038 3 SMTP-000033([myserverIP]) [659500] failed to send. Error Code=connection reset by peer 13:33:41.038 4 SMTP([myserverIP]) [659500] batch reenqueued into tail Windows firewall is disabled on the exchange server, all other emails that are of smaller value come through just fine. • Installing Numpy locally

  I posted this question originally on StackOverflow, but a user suggested I moved it here so here I go! I have an account in a remote computer without root permissions and I needed to install a local version of Python (the remote computer has a version of Python that is incompatible with some codes I have), Numpy and Scipy there. I've been trying to install numpy locally since yesterday, with no success. I successfully installed a local version of Python (2.7.3) in /home/myusername/.local/, so I access to this version of Python by doing /home/myusername/.local/bin/python. I tried two ways of installing Numpy: I downloaded the lastest stable version of Numpy from the official webpage, unpacked it, got into the unpacked folder and did: /home/myusername/.local/bin/python setup.py install --prefix=/home/myusername/.local. However, I get the following error, which is followed by a series of other errors (deriving from this one): gcc -pthread -shared build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.7/numpy/core/blasdot/_dotblas.o -L/usr/local/lib -Lbuild/temp.linux-x86_64-2.7 -lptf77blas -lptcblas -latlas -o build/lib.linux-x86_64-2.7/numpy/core/_dotblas.so /usr/bin/ld: /usr/local/lib/libptcblas.a(cblas_dptgemm.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC Not really knowing what this meant (except that the error apparently has to do with the LAPACK library), I just did the same command as above, but now putting LDFLAGS='-fPIC', as suggested by the error i.e., I did LDFLAGS="-fPIC" /home/myusername/.local/bin/python setup.py install --prefix=/home/myusername/.local. However, I got the same error (except that the prefix -fPIC was addeded after the gcc command above). I tried installing it using pip, i.e., doing /home/myusername/.local/bin/pip install numpy /after successfully instaling pip in my local path). However, I get the exact same error. I searched on the web, but none of the errors seemed to be similar to mine. My first guess is that this has to do with some piece of code that needs root permissions to be executed, or maybe with some problem with the version of the LAPACK libraries or with gcc (gcc version 4.1.2 is installed on the remote computer). Help, anyone?

• Improving performance by using an additional static file server

  Hello there, I´m planning for a large website that includes many static assets (js, css, images and thumbnails) in the generated pages. That website will use TYPO3 as CMS (is is a customer requirement). I guess I could seriously improve performance / page load times by using a two server setup. One server where the main application (PHP) runs and another one where the static files sit being served by a trimmed down version of apache or something like lighthttpd. Including e. g. js or css files from the file server is of course no big deal. Just use an absolute url http://static.example.com/js/main.js and be done with it. But: that website will have pages with MANY thumbnails of e. g. product images on it. So I see two problems when the main application tries to create a thumbnail of some image: the original image like products/some.jpg is uploaded on the static file server and therefore not on the same server as the PHP application which tries to create the thumbnail. TYPO3 writes created thumbnails to a temp directory which is expected to be on the same server. Therefore, hundreds of thumbnails will be written and served from that temp directory which is on the same server as the main application - the static file server is in that case basically useless, all thumbnails will be requested from the server of the main application. So, my question is: how to overcome this shortcomings? Is it possible to "symlink" some directories to another server? So, for example, if PHP tries to open the original products image for thumbnail creation with imagecreate("products/some.jpg") the products folder actually "points" to the products folder on the static image server? I know something like this can be done with .htaccess but is it possible on file system level?

• Failure to connect to admin share pops up dialog

  I'm having an issue with a curious error message when accessing the administrative share on a remote machine. Specifically, the client is logged in as the domain administrator on the machine A, and runs some code that tries to access the admin share on B (a domain member). The access is done in .NET, along these lines (though I am not sure if the method of access makes a difference): string path = @"\\B\admin$"; if (Directory.Exists(path)) { try { path += @"\temp\"; if (!Directory.Exists(path)) { Directory.CreateDirectory(path); } path += "myfile_remote"; File.Copy("myfile", path); Now, on some machines this fails. That is not a big problem as we have a fallback. I'd like to know why but it is not the real issue. The problem is that running this piece of code causes a dialog box to pop up for the logged-in user on B, saying "network error trying to access \\B\admin$\temp\myfile_remote. Contact the network administrator and ask for the correct permissions". Unfortunately, it is a foreign language Windows so I'll spare you all posting a screenshot. It is skinned like a standard Windows dialog box. Why exactly is that dialog box popping up for the user and is there anything I can do about it? Edit to add: B is a Windows 7 Enterprise installation. The client is not aware of any GPO policies being installed. There is AV from Trend Micro installed.

• PC dies when running at 100% CPU

  I recently wrote some Java code to generate images of the Mandelbrot set (fractal). I made use of the new Fork/Join facility in Java 7 to run separate threads on all four cores (2 real, 2 virtual)simultaneously, using a large number of iterations for greater accuracy. The problem is, the process runs fine for about a minute, and then it's as if someone has pulled the plug and the PC just dies. I thought it must be the CPUs overheating, so I ran Real Temp to monitor the temperature. It's an Intel i3 processor. I can see the temperature creeping up to 70 degrees, and then it seems to level off there and run for about another 30 seconds before dying. According to Real Temp, there's still a gap of 35 degrees between the actual temperature and TJ max. I also tried disabling "CPU TM function" in the BIOS, but the problem still occurs. A colleague suggested that it might be a power supply problem, so I borrowed a more powerful PSU (can't remember what wattage it was, but it's higher than mine which is 500W). The exact same thing still happens though. Is anyone able to suggest what the problem might be, or what I can try next?

  We are using ActiveMQ 5.6.0 with KahaDB. No more messages were processed, when we ran into the 1GB temp usage limit. Or that's what we are assuming, is that correct? The configuration looks like this: <systemUsage> <systemUsage> <memoryUsage> <memoryUsage limit="512mb"/> </memoryUsage> <storeUsage> <storeUsage limit="3 gb"/> </storeUsage> <tempUsage> <tempUsage limit="1 gb"/> </tempUsage> </systemUsage> </systemUsage> After cleaning up the log files and being way below the limits, still no messages were consumed by AMQ. Only when we manually purged a route, messages were starting to be delivered again. So we need to ensure, that the KahaDB log size always stays below the temp usage, right? And that delivery was not picked up after fixing that is a bug or are there any other steps to be taken?

• Ping results "echo'd" out to a text file on Windows XP machine has unusual character rather than the outcome

  Here is the situation. I have a Windows XP machine that I would like to ping another machine and send the output to a text file for review at a later date. This is quite a standard question with several answers on this website and others. The issue I have is that when reviewing the txt file afterwards, the outcome of the ping appears as a strange character. A screenshot of the text file output can be found at the following link. Please note its the first 8 ping outputs that have a strange character. The %%B was me hoping that would output what I wanted! (Cannot upload image to any hosting websites because the company I work for seems to be afraid of them ....) • GA-P55A-UD4 SYSFAN 2 problem....

  Hi, I have some strange problems with the mobo in title. I have two fans connected to SYSFAN 1 and 2. Both are the same temp regulated Arctic Cooling F12. They are regulated thru temp sensor which is in different cable from fan. It connects to the 3 pin. So, I connected them to SYSFAN 1 and 2 MB ports. The problem is, when PC starts, the fan connected to SYSFAN 1 spins nice and is reporting speed to BIOS. But second fan connected to SYSFAN 2 starts to spin, than stops. I tried to warm the sensor with no help. Also, in BIOS I found no feature about SYSFAN 2 mode or something. I tried the fan itself by connecting it to PWR fan connector and it works fine. But obviously I want it to operate in SYSFAN 2. Please if you have any advice, help. Thanks.

  I tried the code provided by vba express for combining sheet, while execution it is displaying Run Time error 1004: Application Defined or Object Defined Error: My Scenario is: I have a Excel, in that I have first sheet "Connection" and after it I have Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on. I am combining all sheets except Sheet"Conection" by saying start with sheet2. I tried following line of code to exclude "Connection" sheet: If Not Sheet.Name = "Connection" then but it did not work. Whatever the sheets I have in some of them I have large data in some cells. • How do I install MySQLdb on a Python 2.6 source build, on Debian Lenny?

  I've installed Python 2.6 from source on my Debian Lenny server, as Lenny does not have the python2.6 package. So, my Python 2.5 has MySQLdb installed and working just fine because I installed the python-mysqldb package. • How can I resolve Hibernate 3's ConstraintViolationException when updating a Persistent Entity's Col

  I'm trying to discover why two nearly identical class sets are behaving different from Hibernate 3's perspective. I'm fairly new to Hibernate in general and I'm hoping I'm missing something fairly obvious about the mappings or timing issues or something along those lines but I spent the whole day yesterday staring at the two sets and any differences that would lead to one being able to be persisted and the other not completely escaped me. I appologize in advance for the length of this question but it all hinges around some pretty specific implementation details. It is identical except for name. Instead of Job it's Web. Instead of JobStateChange it's WebStateChange. Instead of JobState it's WebState. Both Job and Web's SortedSet of StateChanges are mapped as a Hibernate CollectionOfElements. Both are @Embeddable. Both are SortType.Natural. Both are backed by an Enumeration with some advancement rules in it. And yet when a nearly identical test is run for Web, no issue is discovered and the data flushes fine. For the sake of brevity I won't include all of the Web classes here, but I will include the test and if anyone wants to see the actual sources, I'll include them (just leave a comment). Everything works perfectly. Not so with Job. A possibly pertinent detail: the reconstitution code works fine if I cease to map JobStateChange.data as a TIMESTAMP and instead as a DATE, and ensure that all of the StateChanges always occur on different Dates. The problem is that this particular business entity can go through many state changes in a single day and so it needs to be sorted by time stamp rather than by date. If I don't do this then I can't sort the StateChanges correctly. That being said, WebStateChange.date is also mapped as a TIMESTAMP and so I again remain absolutely befuddled as to where this error is arising from. I tried to do a fairly thorough job of giving all of the technical details of the implementation but as this particular question is very implementation specific, if I missed anything just let me know in the comments and I'll include it.   Snapshot database is one of the most interesting concepts that I have used at some places recently. Here is a quick definition of the subject from Book On Line: A Database Snapshot is a read-only, static view of a database (the source database). Multiple snapshots can exist on a source database and can always reside on the same server instance as the database. Each database snapshot is consistent, in terms of transactions, with the source database as of the moment of the snapshot’s creation. A snapshot persists until it is explicitly dropped by the database owner. If you do not know how Snapshot database work, here is a quick note on the subject. However, please refer to the official description on Book-on-Line for accuracy. Snapshot database is a read-only database created from an original database called the “source database”. This database operates at page level. When Snapshot database is created, it is produced on sparse files; in fact, it does not occupy any space (or occupies very little space) in the Operating System. When any data page is modified in the source database, that data page is copied to Snapshot database, making the sparse file size increases. When an unmodified data page is read in the Snapshot database, it actually reads the pages of the original database. In other words, the changes that happen in the source database are reflected in the Snapshot database. Let us see a simple example of Snapshot. In the following exercise, we will do a few operations. Please note that this script is for demo purposes only- there are a few considerations of CPU, DISK I/O and memory, which will be discussed in the future posts. Create Snapshot Delete Data from Original DB Restore Data from Snapshot First, let us create the first Snapshot database and observe the sparse file details. Instead the user filled all the Registration fields then press submit after that received a message as a result of PostBack that "THIS USERNAME IS EXIST", Ajax tidies this up by allowing asynchronous querying while the user is still completing the registration form.   ASP.NET enables you to create Web services can be accessed from client script in Web pages by using AJAX technology to make Web service calls. Data is exchanged asynchronously between client and server, typically in JSON format. The problem reads: Each year Sabrina Cantrell, owner of waterglen horse farms enters four of her horses in five local horse races. She uses the table shown below to keep track of her horses in 5 local races. in the table , a 1 shows that the horse won a race, a 2 shows 2nd place, a 3 is 3rd place , and a 0 the horse didn't finish in the top 3. • Another "Windows 7 entry missing from Grub2" Question

  Like many before me had the following problem that after installing Ubuntu (with windows 7 already installed), the grub boot loader wouldnt show windows 7 as a boot option, though i can boot fine if I use the "Choose Boot Device" options on the x220. The difference is that I try using UEFI only so many answers didn't really fit my problem, though i tried several stuffs: after running boot repair it destroyed the ubuntu boot loader custom entry in /etc/grub.d/40_custom for windows which doesnt show up many update-grub and reboots trying windows repair recovery thing while being there i also did bootrec.exe /FixBoot and update-grub and reboot again and finaly because it was so much fun, i installed linux all over again, while formatting and deleting everything linux related before that. Now that i think of it, Ubuntu also didn't notice Windows being there during the Setup and it still doesnt according to the Boot Info from Boot Repair. • NHibernate 2 Beginner's Guide Review

  OK, here's the review I promised a while ago. This is a beginner's introduction to NHibernate, so if you have already some experience with NHibernate, you will notice it lacks a lot of concepts and information. It starts with a good description of NHibernate and why would we use it. It goes on describing basic mapping scenarios having primary keys generated with the HiLo or Identity algorithms, without actually explaining why would we choose one over the other. As for mapping, the book talks about XML mappings and provides a simple example of Fluent NHibernate, comparing it to its XML counterpart. When it comes to relations, it covers one-to-many/many-to-one and many-to-many, not one-to-one relations, but only talks briefly about lazy loading, which is, IMO, an important concept. Only Bags are described, not any of the other collection types. The log4net configuration description gets it's own chapter, which I find excessive. The chapter on configuration merely lists the most common properties for configuring NHibernate, both in XML and in code. Querying only talks about loading by ID (using Get, not Load) and using Criteria API, on which a paging example is presented as well as some common filtering options (property equals/like/between to, no examples on conjunction/disjunction, however). There's a chapter fully dedicated to ASP.NET, which explains how we can use NHibernate in web applications. It basically talks about ASP.NET concepts, though. Following it, another chapter explains how we can build our own ASP.NET providers using NHibernate (Membership, Role). The available entity generators for NHibernate are referred and evaluated on a chapter of their own, the list is fine (CodeSmith, nhib-gen, AjGenesis, Visual NHibernate, MyGeneration, NGen, NHModeler, Microsoft T4 (?) and hbm2net), examples are provided whenever possible, however, I have some problems with some of the evaluations: for example, Visual NHibernate scores 5 out of 5 on Visual Studio integration, which simply does not exist! I suspect the author means to say that it can be launched from inside Visual Studio, but then, what can't? Finally, there's a chapter I really don't understand. It seems like a bag where a lot of things are thrown in, like NHibernate Burrow (which actually isn't explained at all), Blog.Net components, CSS template conversion and web.config settings related to the maximum request length for file uploads and ending with XML configuration, with the help of GhostDoc. Like I said, the book is only good for absolute beginners, it does a fair job in explaining the very basics, but lack a lot of not-so-basic concepts. Among other things, it lacks: Inheritance mapping strategies (table per class hierarchy, table per class, table per concrete class) Load versus Get usage Other usefull ISession methods First level cache (Identity Map pattern) Other collection types other that Bag (Set, List, Map, IdBag, etc Fetch options User Types Filters Named queries LINQ examples HQL examples And that's it! • Adopting DBVCS

  Identify early adopters Pick a small project with a small(ish) team.  This can be a legacy application or a green-field application. Strive to find a team of early adopters that will be eager to try something new. Get the team on board! Research Research the tool(s) that you want to use.  Some tools provide all of the features you would need while some only provide a slice of the pie.  DBVCS requires the ability to manage a set of change scripts that update a database from one version to the next.  Ideally a tool can track database versions and automatically apply updates.  The change script generation process can be manual, but having diff tools available to automatically generate it can really reduce the overhead to adoption.  Finally, an automated tool to generate a script file per database object is an added bonus as your version control system can quickly identify what was changed in a commit (add/del/modify), just like with code changes. Don’t settle on just one tool, identify several.  Then work with the team to evaluate the tools.  Have the team do some tests of the following scenarios with each tool: Baseline an existing database: can the migration tool work with legacy databases?  Caution: most migration platforms do not support baselines or have poor support, especially the fad of fluent APIs. Add/drop tables Add/drop procedures/functions/views Alter tables (rename columns, add columns, remove columns) Massage data – migrations sometimes involve changing data types that cannot be implicitly casted and require you to decide how the data is explicitly cast to the new type.  This is a requirement for a migrations platform.  Think about a case where you might want to combine fields, or move a field from one table to another, you wouldn’t want to lose the data. Run the tool via the command line.  If you cannot automate the tool in Continuous Integration what is the point? Create a copy of a database on demand. Backup/restore databases locally. Let the team give feedback and decide together, what tool they would like to try out. My recommendation at this point would be to include TSqlMigrations and RoundHouse as SQL based migration platforms.  In general I would recommend staying away from the fluent platforms as they often lack baseline capabilities and add overhead to learn a new API when SQL is already a very well known DSL.  Code migrations often get messy with procedures/views/functions as these have to be created with SQL and aren’t cross platform anyways.  IMO stick to SQL based migrations. Reconciling Production If your project is a legacy application, you will need to reconcile the current state of production with your development databases.  Find changes in production and bring them down to development, even if they are old and need to be removed.  Once complete, produce a baseline of either dev or prod as they are now in sync.  Commit this to your VCS of choice. Add whatever schema changes tracking mechanism your tool requires to your development database.  This often requires adding a table to track the schema version of that database.  Your tool should support doing this for you.  You can add this table to production when you do your next release. Script out any changes currently in dev.  Remove production artifacts that you brought down during reconciliation.  Add change scripts for any outstanding changes in dev since the last production release.  Commit these to your repository.   Say No to Shared Dev DBs Simply put, you wouldn’t dream of sharing a code checkout, why would you share a development database?  If you have a shared dev database, back it up, distribute the backups and take the shared version offline (including the dev db server once all projects are using DB VCS).  Doing DB VCS with a shared database is bound to cause problems as people won’t be able to easily script out their own changes from those that others are working on.   First prod release Copy prod to your beta/testing environment.  Add the schema changes table (or mechanism) and do a test run of your changes.  If successful you can schedule this to be run on production.   Evaluation After your first release, evaluate the pain points of the process.  Try to find tools or modifications to existing tools to help fix them.  Don’t leave stones unturned, iteratively evolve your tools and practices to make the process as seamless as possible.  This is why I suggest open source alternatives.  Nothing is set in stone, a good example was adding transactional support to TSqlMigrations.  We ran into situations where an update would break a database, so I added a feature to do transactional updates and rollback on errors!  Another good example is generating change scripts.  We have been manually making these for months now.  I found an open source project called Open DB Diff and integrated this with TSqlMigrations.  These were things we just accepted at the time when we began adopting our tool set.  Once we became comfortable with the base functionality, it was time to start automating more of the process.  Just like anything else with development, never be afraid to try to find tools to make your job easier!   Enjoy -Wes
