• Is there a tool for detecting Visual Studio projects with duplicate GUIDs?

  When creating new Visual Studio C++ projects there're two ways: either run the wizard and then painfully change all the necessary settings in the project or just copy and existing project, rename everything there and add files into it. The second variant is great except that the .vcproj file stores a project GUID. This GUID is used to track project dependencies and the startup project when two or more projects are in one solution. If any two projects in one solution have identical GUIDs problems can arise - dependencies are lost and the startup prject is reset on next solution reload. Clearly there's a need for a tool that would scan the filesystem subtree and detect projects with identical GUIDs here. Before I start writing one ... is there a ready tool for that?

• How do I get callgrind to dump source line information?

  I'm trying to profile a shared library on GNU/Linux which does real-time audio processing, so performance is important. I run another program which hooks it up to the audio input and output of my system, and profile that with callgrind. Looking at the results in KCacheGrind, I get great information about what functions are taking up most of my time. However, it won't let me look at the line by line information, and instead says I need to compile it with debugging symbols and run the profiling again. The program which I am profiling is not compiled with debug symbols, but the library is. And I know this, because interestingly, source code annotations for cachegrind work fine. When I run callgrind, it says the default is to dump source line information, but it just isn't doing that. Is there some way I could force it to, or figure out what's stopping it?

• App crashes when adding array data to table cells

  I am trying to create a table view that loads a number of tweets into the table (one per cell etc). I am using NSXMLParser to get the information and have got as far as creating an array with the selection of tweets that I want. However, when I try to add them to the table cells, the app crashes on the line: cell.textLabel.text = cellValue; An NSLog before this shows in the console that the app is getting the correct data, so I am a bit stumped as to why this isn't working. • Adding a new view to a Window-based app (re: MapKit tutorial)

  I'm trying add a new view in a window-based application but not really getting anywhere. I've been going through a great MapKit tutorial lately, http://mithin.in/2009/06/22/using-iphone-sdk-mapkit-framework-a-tutorial/ and have successfully set it up and added some further buttons and customizations. However I've gotten stuck at what I assume ought to be a brain-dead simple step. I have added a toolbar to the bottom of the app, and a 'settings' style button. Following this I created a SettingsViewController complete with it's own view. Now I'd like to connect them but I've had absolutely no luck trying to figure out how to do this. • Looking for jQuery slideshow where a user can hide/show a block of text (link, caption)

  I'm looking to implement a fairly basic jQuery slideshow. One that automatically loops through a set number of images. The snag I'm running into is i'd like to have a little icon in the corner of the picture, that when clicked, brings up a transparent black bar across the bottom with some text and perhaps a link. Has anybody come across anything like this? • Why C++ virtual function defined in header may not be compiled and linked in vtable?

  Situation is following. I have shared library, which contains class definition - QueueClass : IClassInterface { virtual void LOL() { do some magic} } My shared library initialize class member QueueClass *globalMember = new QueueClass(); My share library export C function which returns pointer to globalMember - void * getGlobalMember(void) { return globalMember;} My application uses globalMember like this ((IClassInterface*)getGlobalMember())->LOL(); Now the very uber stuff - if i do not reference LOL from shared library, then LOL is not linked in and calling it from application raises exception. Reason - VTABLE contains nul in place of pointer to LOL() function. When i move LOL() definition from .h file to .cpp, suddenly it appears in VTABLE and everything works just great. What explains this behavior?! (gcc compiler + ARM architecture_)

  How do I parse an XML document that contains nodes where underscores exist? <some_xml> <child_node> <child width_info="" height_info="" /> </childnode> </some_xml> I tried this: for each (var item:XML in Environment._XMLData.some_xml.child_node.child){ trace(child.@width_info); } But that does'nt seem to work. • IIS Virtual Directory/Application & Forms authentication

  I've setup and deployed a simple forms authentication website with membership using .NET 4. I've created a virtual directory (now converted to "Application") in IIS7 and setup the web.config file in the virtual directory as follows: <system.webServer> <directoryBrowse enabled="true" /> </system.webServer> Great! I browse to the virtual directory: ../mydomain/books/ and I'm automatically redirected to the login page specified by web.config in my root directory and the url path is placed as follows: ../Account/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fbooks At this point, I login succesfully, but I am not redirected anywhere, and when I manually return to the directory, ../books, I'm sent back to the login page, where I'm already logged in? So I'm confused about what my problem is! I should be successfully authenticated, and than redirected back to the directory, or at the very least be able to view it manually after I log in right?

• Which browsers support font embedding.

  I've been reading about the @font-face rule and trying to work out if it's worth using it in a project to render "franklin gothic medium" for title instead of something like sIfr. I figured that for browsers that don't support it I could make it fall back on Arial. The thing is that I'm having trouble getting a definitive answer about which browsers support embedding fonts in this way. So far I've worked out the IE does, but doesn't support .ttf files. Other browsers I'm not sure. If anyone could point me towards some kinf of compatibility chart that would be great. Jon

• Migrate a Django project from MySQL to Oracle

  Hi, I have a Django1.1 project that works with a legacy MySQL db. I'm trying to migrate this project to Oracle (xe and 11g). We have two options for the migration: - Use SQL developer to create a migration sql script. - Use Django fixtures. The schema created with the sql script from sql developer doesn't match the schema created from syncdb. For example, Django expects TIMESTAMP columns while sql developer creates DATE columns. Using syncdb with Django fixtures could be great but when trying to load the MySQL fixtures into Oracle, after using syncdb, I'm getting: IntegrityError: ORA-00001: unique constraint (USER.SYS_C004253) violated How can I find what part create the integrity error?   What I am trying to do is run the sed on multiple files in the directory Server_Upload, using variables: AB${count} Corresponds, to some variables I made that look like: echo " AB1 = 2010-10-09Three " echo " AB2 = 2009-3-09Foo " echo " AB3 = Bar " And these correspond to each line which contains a word in master.ta, that needs changing in all the text files in Server_Upload. • How to clear cache for previously installed InfoPath forms on a client computer?

  Hi folks, We recently had a strange issue with an InfoPath 2007 form being opened from SharePoint 2007 and receiving the error message "the system cannot find the file specified". To be clear, this was not a form services enabled form. Anyway, after spending way too much time trying to figure out what was going on (nothing in the MOSS 2007 server log files), we determined that the user had previously installed an older version of the form (but with the same name) on their workstation using a no longer available msi file (meaning we could not uninstall it from the workstation). So I wanted to pass on a very simple solution for anyone who is unfortunate to run into this problem in the future (since I lost a great deal of hair over it): Fire up regedit, go to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE-Software-Microsoft-Office-InfoPath-SolutionsCatalog. Locate the key that has the previously installed form name, and delete it. This will cause InfoPath to stop trying to open the form locally (which is either old or doesn't exist) and force it to open your form from SharePoint. Hope this helps someone!

  This is how I'm doing it now: link_to "Profile", :controller => "profiles", :action => "asked", :id => @profile # => <a href="/profiles/asked/1">Profile</a> Does it make more sense for the URL to be <a href="/profiles/1/asked">Profile</a>? Profile 1 asked some number of questions, so it makes more sense to me for the URL to look like: /:controller/:id/:action. If you agree, how do I accomplish this? If you don't agree, please let me know why. (I'm new to Ruby on Rails, so I'm still getting used to MVC conventions.) Any advice would be great!

• IE6 image scaling with bicubic filter

  I have a project where I have to resize some images in the actual browser side. IE8, FF3 et al all apply a filter to smooth the resizing of the image, so in these browsers everything looks good. In IE7 I have applied the following fix which works great: -ms-interpolation-mode:bicubic; In IE6 however I can only find references to the AlphaImage Filter (the same one used to enable alpha transparency on PNG files). However I can't find an example of how to use it, nor have I been able to get it working myself. Can anyone provide me with an example? Preferably applied to actual img tags, though I could use background images if required. • Tag-like autocompletion and caret/cursor movement in contenteditable elements.

  I'm working on a jQuery plugin that will allow you to do @username style tags, like Facebook does in their status update input box. My problem is, that even after hours of researching and experimenting, it seems REALLY hard to simply move the caret. I've managed to inject the <a> tag with someone's name, but placing the caret after it seems like rocket science, specially if it's supposed work in all browsers. And I haven't even looked into replacing the typed @username text with the tag yet, rather than just injecting it as I'm doing right now... lol There's a ton of questions about working with contenteditable here on Stack Overflow, and I think I've read all of them, but they don't really cover properly what I need. So any more information anyone can provide would be great :)

• How to build a Video Broadcaster, which can handle more than 20,000 viewers

  I want to broadcast Video from a web cam, over internet. The problem is, the Video will be viewed live by more than 20,000 people (expected). I have a very little experience with Red5 Broadcasting. I did some broadcasting using Red5 and Flash. It works fine for 1 or 2 viewers i.e. it is great for personal chatting/ video conferencing applications. But, when the number of viewers increases, the delay in Broadcasting also increases. I am experiencing a Delay addition of about 0.5 Seconds for every new user who joins the broadcast. Can any one suggest me some, better technologies on which I can work out this Live Broadcasting. I don't want to use http://www.ustream.com; I want to create one of my own, such tool. But thats always the last solution.

  I recently found SOAPUI and discovered that it is just a great tool for testing any SOAP/HTTP service. Conventionally, we have been developing our own driver to test our services (WCF based netTCP binding) so far. But with SOAPUI experience, I am really looking for some such tool that can be used with such ease with built-in facilities for load testing, functional testing etc. The other thought in my mind is that for services that I wish to deploy with netTCP can be first tested using a HTTP binding using SOAPUI. Once found suitable, the binding can be changed for the intended one. I shall like the views from all the experts here. Thanks.

  From PyPubSub: Pypubsub provides a simple way for your Python application to decouple its components: parts of your application can publish messages (with or without data) and other parts can subscribe/receive them. This allows message "senders" and message "listeners" to be unaware of each other: one doesn't need to import the other a sender doesn't need to know "who" gets the messages, what the listeners will do with the data, or even if any listener will get the message data. similarly, listeners don't need to worry about where messages come from. This is a great tool for implementing a Model-View-Controller architecture or any similar architecture that promotes decoupling of its components. There seem to be quite a few Python modules for publishing/subscribing floating around the web, from PyPubSub, to PyDispatcher to simple "home-cooked" classes. Sorry if its a repetition The basic idea which I am trying to explore is to design a common Ajax framework/API for our application. The main requirement is to have a common framework in the product which every module in the application can call whenever it needs to provide Ajax behavior. We basically have a page based application and not everything would be Ajax for sure. Mostly it will be smaller pieces of work which Ajax will handle. We have used GWT and it works great. But we have some constraints because of which certain areas in the application need to build standard jsp and html pages only I know little bit about dwr and it looks very promising (as even answered by some people). I wanted to know what are the other possible frameworks like dwr which I can evaluate too, before making the decision

• Quick example of multi-column results with jQueryUI's new Autocomplete?

  I just found out that the jQueryUI now has it's own built-in auto-complete combo box. Great news! Unfortunately, the next thing I found is that making it multi-column doesn't seem nearly that simple (at least via documentation). There is a post here where someone mentions that they've done it (and even gives code), but I'm having trouble understanding what some of their code is doing. • Making sure unsigned int/long always execute in checked context in C#

  Has anyone found it strange that the default context for uint and ulong is unchecked rather than checked considering that they are meant to represent values that can never be negative? So if some code is trying to violate that constraint it seems to me the natural and preferred behaviour would be to throw an exception rather than returning the max value instead (which can easily leave important pieces of data in an invalid state and impossible to revert..). Is there an existing attribute which can be applied to either class/assembly so that it always performs arithmetic operations in a checked context? I was thinking of writing one myself (as an aspect using PostSharp) but would be great if there's one already. Many thanks,

  In your experience, what kinds of things have turned away users and prospective users from using your programs? Also, what kinds of things turn you away from using someone else's programs? For example, one thing that really bugs me is when someone provides free software, but requires you to enter your name and email address before you download it. Why do they need my name and email address? I just want to use the program! I understand that the developer(s) may want to get a feel for how many users they have, etc, but the extra work I have to do really makes me think twice about downloading their software, even if it does really great things.

  I'm attempting to place some embed code into a Premium WordPress Theme. NOTE: I'm not great when it comes to php. The embed code is produced by a video player called EasyVideoPlayer. (Basically it allows me to use Amazon S3 and gives me feedback on when people stop watching the video.) If anyone has any information or links to find out how to do this I would be most appreciative. expListAdapter = new SimpleExpandableListAdapter( main.this, createGroupList(), R.layout.parentnode, new String[] { "day", "number" }, new int[] { R.id.TextView01, R.id.TextView02 }, createChildList(), R.layout.child_row, new String[] { "image", "childName", "date"}, new int[] { R.id.ImageView01, R.id.childname, R.id.date } ); setListAdapter( expListAdapter ); is what my adapter looks like at the moment, I have very little experience in customising adapters so I do not know where to start. Any help would be great :D
