• HP to Cisco spanning tree root flapping

  Per a recent question I recently configured both my HP (2x 2900) and Cisco (1x 3750) hardware to use MSTP for interoperability. I thought this was functional until I applied the change to the third device (HP switch 1 below) at which time the spanning tree root started flapping causing performance issues (5% packet loss) between my two HP switches. I'm not sure why. HP Switch 1 A4 connected to Cisco 1/0/1. HP Switch 2 B2 connected to Cisco 2/0/1. HP Switch 1 A2 connected to HP Switch 2 A1. I'd prefer the Cisco stack to act as the root. EDIT: There is one specific line - 'spanning-tree 1 path-cost 500000' in the HP switch 2 that I didn't add and was preexisting. I'm not sure if it could have the kind of impact that I'm describing. I'm more a security and monitoring guy then networking. EDIT 2: I'm starting to believe the problem lies in the fact that the value for my MST 0 instance on the Cisco is still at the default 32768. I worked up a diagram: This is based on every show command I could find for STP. I'll make this change after hours and see if it helps. But recently I have joined a company which owns VS 6 Enterprise (or some such version) I was just exploring what is available in VS 6 Ent. and I found Visual Modeler. The tutorial provided with it is not good enough. I was wondering if there is any detailed tutorial(s) for Visual Modeler? Is Visual Modeler a cut down version of Rational Rose? I have never used such a tool for developing apps. What are the benefits of developing apps like this? The document claims that one can speed up development and modifications of VB6 & VC++ 6 applications. How true is this claim? My company also has Ration Rose 6. Which is better Rational Rose 6 or Visual Modeler that comes with VS 6 Ent.?

• MySqlDateTime to System.DateTime conversion

  Ok I'm very new to databases and C# in general, but I'm using a piece of code that exports dataset data to an Excel file, and its taking issue with the date/time format. I'm using the MySQL connector so the rowtype is MySql.Data.Types.MySqlDateTime. Is there any quick way to convert it into System.DateTime so I can slot it straight into the case statement? • SQL 2008 Database tuning advisor won't start

  For some reason I can't get DTA to connect to my development machine. It connects to a remote DB just fine but when I point it to my dev machine I get an error saying: Failed to initialize MSDB database for tuning (exit code: -1073741819). I'm pretty sure it's not a permissions issue since I've used profiler to capture what it's doing and all of the commands it's run so far look fine and are being run under my account which is associated with the sysadmin role, when I run them in sql management studio they go through fine. I'm pretty convinced that the problem is related to creating the objects in MSDB that are used by DTA but I tried creating these manually (I found scripts on the web) and it just seems to push the problem along the line slightly. I'm going out of my mind - have even tried reinstalling SQL but that's not fixed it. I'm using SQL 2008 with SP1 (10.0.2531) on windows server 2008 (patched up to date). SAVE ME!!!!!

So far I got to: Regex NotesChanged = new Regex(@"NOTES changed from \[(\w*|\W*)\] to \[([\w-|\W-]*)\]"); which matches only if "NOTES changed from" started at the beginning and has no '[]' within '[ ]', but I have "[CLOSED[]]" and also no "". I want to be able to apply a WHERE statement to return a group of them and then return which date is the earliest from one column and which one is the latest from another column. Also, in Phong(...), when I computed the intensity_diffuse and while debugging, I divided light_color by 10, I was obtaining a resulting image that looked more like what I need. Am I calculating the light_color correctly? Thanks.

• Creating a specialised view filtering form in Rails

  G'day guys, I have a current set of data, and I generate multiple analyses of this data (each analysis into its own active record item called a pricing_interval) using a helper function at the moment. Currently to analyse the set of data, you need a start time(using datetime_select) an integer (using text_field) and a name (using text_field) I would like on submission of the form to be redirected to the index page of my pricing_interval, as the values will be re-generated. Manually generating a range proves that my helper methods work. How would I build a form that on submit would send parameters to a function in the form of (date,integer,name) so that it could immediately begin work whilst redirecting the user to server/pricing_intervals Anything at all would help, I've spent hours over the past few days trying to get the rails form syntax working properly to no avail, a really straightforward guide to what I would implement to get this working would be amazingly appreciated. I've looked through the form guides, as I'm not creating an object, but merely parsing params, there's got to be an easy way to do this, right?

• Microsoft SQL 2005 - using the modulo operator

  So I have a silly problem, I have not used much MSSQL before, or any SQL for that matter. I basically have a minor mathematical problem that I need solved, and I thought modulo would be good. I have a number of dates in the database, but I need them be rounded off to the closest [dynamic integer] (could be anything from 0 to 5000000) which will be input as a parameter each time this query is called. So I thought I'd use modulo to find the remainder, then subtract that remainder from the date. If there is a better way, or an integrated function, please let me know! What would be the syntax for that? I've tried a lot of things, but I keep getting error messages like integers/floats/decimals can't be used with the modulo operators. I tried casting to all kinds of numeric datatypes. Any help would be appreciated.

However, since the algorithm to create GUIDs was changed apparently, I found it hard to get my hands on any up-to-date information. The MSDN seems to try and provide as few information as possible. What is known about how GUIDs are generated in .NET 4? What was changed, and how does it affect the security ("randomness") and integrity ("uniqueness")? One specific aspect I'm interested in: In v1, it seems to be about impossible to generate the same GUID on a single machine again since there was a timestamp and counter involved. In v4, this is no longer the case (I was told), so the chance to get the same GUID on a single machine ... increased?

• What really happens when I use varchar(10) in the sqlite command-line shell?

  I'm messing around with SQLite for the first time by working through some of the SQLite documentation. In particular, I'm using Command Line Shell For SQLite and the SoupToNuts SQLite Tutorial on Sourceforge. According to the SQLite datatype documentation, there are only 5 datatypes in SQLite. However, in the two tutorial documents above, I see where the authors use commands such as create table tbl1(one varchar(10), two smallint); or create table t1 (t1key INTEGER PRIMARY KEY,data TEXT,num double,timeEnter DATE); which contain datatypes that aren't listed by SQLite, yet these commands work just fine. Additionally, when I ran .dump to see the SQL statements, these datatype specifications are preserved. So, what gives? Does SQLite keep a reference for any datatype specified in the SQL yet converts it behind the scenes to one of its 5 datatypes? Or is there something else I'm missing?

  For my project I am using the following: FlashDevelop 3.3.4 RTM Flash Pro CS 5 (libraries only, no code) Some time ago we started using TLFTextfields. One of the things I had to do was include the tlfruntime.swc file from the Adobe Flash CS 5 folder in the FlashDevelop project. Note that I copied this file to the project folder and included it, I didn't just include the file straight from the CS5 path. I have since been given a new computer that has Flash CS 5.5. I recompiled one of my swf libraries in CS 5.5, and now when I run the program, I get: Illegal override of createTextLine in flashx.textLayout.compose.ComposeState I figure the tlfruntime.swc being included in the FlashDevelop project is out of date and needs to be updated with the one from CS 5.5. So I copied the tlfruntime.swc from the CS 5.5 path, include it in the FlashDevelop project (instead of the older file), but now I get this: Illegal override of softKeyboardActivatingHandler in fl.text.container.TLFContainerController. Can anyone assist with what else I need to do to get TLFTextfields working again in CS 5.5?

I am no stats wonk, so maybe it makes sense that a LOESS function’s output would match the input as seen in the above example, but it strikes me as being wrong.   I'm trying to get basic http authentication working on my Rails app. I'm offering a simple REST interface served by a Rails server, only xml/json output. • How to write custom reports in Drupal

  What's the "right" way in Drupal to create reports? I was hoping to use a view but am not having much luck. My goal is to create a table of rows containing three fields: user name, location, SUM of volunteer hours. Once I have this part working, I plan to expose filters for Location and Date. Views Calc only allows you to group by one field. I know Crystal Reports and MSSQL Reporting Services and I was hoping to find a similar kind of thing for Drupal. Is there a framework, examples, or a module to help with this, or do I need to write a custom module implementing the views_alter_SQL hook to get the desired data for each report? I am adding a lot of double numbers into a Serie but when the double numb are actually whole numbers (20.000000.....) the Y-Axis on my chart shows 20. example: this serie : 12.32 11.00 10.13 would actually show up like this: 12.32 11 10.13 I have tried formatting the data as I insert it into the serie like this: serie.Points.AddXY(date.ToString(),double[i].ToString("##.##")); but that doesn't seem to work. I've tried to search for a place to format it in Chart.Series[0].* and Chart.ChartAreas[0].* but I didn't find it there.

• Visual Studio 2005 "Add Web Deployment Project..." not showing up for web application projects.

  I downloaded the Web Deployment Project plug-in for Visual Studio 2005. I installed it. I have a project that I am working on that is a Web Application Project. The Add Web Deployment Project Build menu selection is not in the Build Menu or Solution Explorer. If I create a raw test Web Site Project, the menu item magically appears. Is this by design or am I missing something. Also, I am completely up to date on all the VS 2005 updates.
