Disable suspend / hibernate via the policykit

I am trying to run Lubuntu 12.04, but if the computer suspends I am unable to bootup again. Instead I see the bios post, the hard disk light flickers once and I have to install again (I have tried to re-install grub2). I am new to Linux and what I found that best answered my question was posted by James Henstridge. The instructions say to create disable-shutdown.pkla in etc/polkit-1/50-local.d/ but this directory does not exist, so do I create a folder titled 50-local.d in poolkit-1 or do I have to place this file elsewhere?

What does Avg Position from Google Webmaster really mean

I have a website I am tracking on Google's Webmaster tools. When I look at the Search queries page it shows me a graph of Impressions and clicks per day. Underneath that there is a table showing specific results. One of the columns is Avg Position. That columns seems to include paid ads. Is that correct, does the Avg Position also include the top result ads(the ads at the top of the search results)? I am asking because the company I work for has a not so common name and whenever I Google it our site is the #1 result 100% of the time. The only thing above it is 1 paid add. When I checkout Webmaster tools I notice that searching for our name returns with us at an Avg Position of 2.0. That seems like it would be only possible if paid top result ads were included in that position. Does anyone know?

How do I add changes resolv.conf without getting overwritten?

I have migrated to 12.04 from 7.10 finally. I have one last part to complete but I am stumped. I am using puppet on each server, and in the past have used resolv.conf to point to my search to the puppetmaster. search puppetmaster.com nameserver 192.168.1.XXX When trying to use the file on 12.04 resolv.conf the file gets over written when rebooted. I cannot use a static IP for these, so using the /etc/network/interfaces to help me out is a nill point. # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN nameserver 127.0.0.1 Is there a way to get resolvconf to handle this either in the head, tail or base. If there is, are there any examples I can use to tweak on my server. Any help is much appreciated.

Why isn't cron running my script?

Now I want to use Backup and Whenever gem to automatic backup my database. SEO and Spelling mistakes in keyword

I am about to register a domain name (suppose) someone.com (with proper spelling), in mind targeting the keyword "SOMEONE". But then I discovered on 'google keyword research tool' that not this but a typo "SOME1" seems to be more popular and people search this significantly more often than the proper keyword. And luckily someone.com and some1.com both are available. I understand that I can register both the domains, but I don't know on which should I keep my website and redirect the other one. Should I make the typo "some1.com" my base site? But that's a typo. P.S., my site has a totally relevant content and not just keyword targeted worthless site. What do you guys suggest? I am confused. How would that affect my SEO ranking?? EDIT: Because the competition for the keyword I am targeting is fairly low, I think nevertheless whatever domain I choose, it will appear on the search engine first page.

Google webmaster tools / Geographic location settings

I am building an website. It has an .nl domain. Now only my domain is showing up on google.nl I hope I can change this somehow that it could be findable in all google's (like google.com / co.uk) and so on. If I look on google forums. They say go to webmaster tools and change your geographic position over there. But I have added this site and I am not able to change it there because there is no select box. I dont have any idea were to search (yes I searched on google offcourse) or where to ask for this special problem. So maybe here can someone redirect me or explain me what is possible and what not. One of my friend told me that your websites index is visible and its one step away to access the password file and he shows me that very simply using the Google search. How can i prevent this and i am hosting my site with a hosting company and i report about this to them but they simply replied to me still its secure so you no need to worry... am i really don need to worry and continue my site with the visible index of admin page?

PATH command not found

Hi, I'm not experienced with PATH (Any good reference would be appreciated), but I made a mistake and did PATH=/google_appengine, which I'm assuming completely overrid PATH. Still, I restarted bash and echo'd PATH and found that the folders were back. mark@mark-laptop:~$ echo $PATH /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games However, when I then tried to append to it, I got an error that PATH wasn't found. Is my robots.txt working as it should?

I want crawlers to have access to http://www.example.com but not http://www.example.com/ My robots.txt is as follows: User-agent: * Allow: /$ Disallow: / My site is in google search results, but I am not coming up in Bing, Yahoo, etc. I have had the same robots.txt since last year, and I initially requested inclusion ~1 year ago, having also resubmitted the URL to those latter search engines several times since as well. Is my robots.txt blocking those other crawlers? And if so, why not google as well? Thanks in advance!

Having Trouble Granting Access Via Squid

I'm by far no expert at this but how do I grant access to Squid? I'm current using 2.7.STABLE9. I've read you need to add a couple of lines, an acl and http_access line. So here's what I added and where. I highly doubt this is right since I'm trying to connect via my laptop and Firefox is yelling at me saying the proxy server is refusing connections. Database Rebuild

I promised I’d have a simpler mechanism for rebuilding the database. Below is a complete MSBuild targets file for rebuilding the database from scratch. I don’t know if I’ve explained the rational for this. The reason why you’d WANT to do this is so that each developer has a clean version of the database on their local machine. This also includes the continuous integration environment. Basically, you can do whatever you want to the database without fear, and in a minute or two, have a completely rebuilt database structure. DBDeploy (including the KTSC build task for dbdeploy) is used in this script to do change tracking on the database itself. The MSBuild ExtensionPack is used in this target file. You can get an MSBuild DBDeploy task here. There are two database scripts that you’ll see below. First is the task for creating an admin (dbo) user in the system. Restricting crawler activity to certain directories with robots.txt

I would like to use robots.txt to prevent indexing of some parts of my website. I want search engines to index only the / directory and not search inside my controllers. In my robots.txt, I have this: User-Agent: * Disallow: /compagnies/ Disallow: /floors/ Disallow: /spaces/ Disallow: /buildings/ Disallow: /users/ Disallow: / I put this file in /mysite/public. I tested the file with a robots.txt validator and got no errors. However, Google always returns the result of my site. For testing, I added Disallow: /, but again, Google indexed all pages. floors, spaces, buildings, etc. are not physical directories. Is this a bug? How can I work around it?

Trying to configure samba share with office server

Hi, i'm trying to set up fstab to automatically connect to my office shared server. I'm undoubtedly doing something silly here as the username and password and server name work fine in the first code snippet below, just not the second - any help would be appreciated! Why are we being twitter spammed?

This is a search relating to us: https://twitter.com/#!/search/realtime/scirra We're getting a of of new accounts tweeting: The Layers Bar - Scirra.com Firstly this is not us doing it as we're quite proud of doing everything completely whitehat. Also this tweet doesn't make any sense, "The Layers Bar" seems to be referring to a manual entry of ours. They all seem to be new accounts with no followers and no prior tweets coming in like clockwork every hour. Does anyone know why this could be happening? Could this harm us? It it possible to find out the source of this? I should mention I'm hesitant to report them all as spam because it could look like we are the culprits.

Configure firewall (Shorewall/UFW) to allow traffic for services on an Ubuntu Server

I have an Ubuntu Server 11.04 x64 which I want to secure. The server will be open to Internet and I want to be able to SSH/SFTP into the machine and the SSH-server runs on a custom set port. I also want a web server accessible from the Internet. These tasks seems not to hard to perform but I also want SAMBA-shares to be accessible from within the local network and this seems to be a bit trickier. If possible I also want to be able to "stealth" the ports necessary to protect the server further but also allow the SAMBA-shares to be automatically found within the local network. I've never configured firewalls before except for a router and I always bump into a bunch of problem when doing it all by myself so I was hoping for some tips or preferably a guide on how to this. Thank you! Update: On second thought I'd could just as likely go with UFW if the same settings are achievable ("stealth" ports).
