I like to read alot of IT books e.g programming / functional. But the problem is that after reading I cannot find reasons to put it into practise and I soon forget what I read.
Any advise?
If I have several OS-X Terminal.app windows open, how can I move one Terminal window to another space?
I'm happy to use any scripting or programming language to achieve this, but would prefer AppleScript or calls to standard frameworks.
(Note this is to move only one window of an application not all windows.)
I'm looking at a database dump file, and I see many records in various tables with their version number set in values other than 0 (even 94 in one case). I understand it has to do with hibernate locking strategy, but my concern is that today is Sunday, and the site has almost no visitors so is: is this normal ? Or is there a known hibernate bug or even some programming malpractice producing this ?
hi, i am new to android programming and want to develop an application similar to vista where the wallpaper changes automatically , so how should i go about it, please could someone guide me on it? thanks
Using GDI+ I've made a heatmap bmp and I'd like to superimpose it on top of my bmp map. I've saved the two bmps to disk, and they look good, I just need a way to put them together. Is there any way to do this, perhaps using the Graphics object? How is transparency/alpa involved?
I'm very new to GDI programming so please be as specific as possible.
Hello, as a way to spice up my C++ programming homework, I've decided to instead of typing the C++ from the book onto my computer, instead reforming it in Ruby. Yes it's a bit silly, but I'm bored.
Anyway, I'm having trouble converting this kind of function to Ruby
void swap(int &a,int &b){
int c=b;
b=a;
a=c
}
What would the equivalent ruby code looking inside a function ?
I am trying to create a similar way to Cpanel password protect directory, where a pop up comes out asking the user for a username and a password, but Cpanel way is amazing but my client doesn't know anything on how to do that, so i wanted to create a pop up msgbox informing the visitor to enter a user name and a password, and i totaly confused on how to create it, and which programming language support similar to CPanel
Please forgive my programming knowledge. I know this is a simple thing, but I do not understand why result is always 0. Why decimal will be fine?
int a = 100;
int b = 200;
decimal c = (a / b) * 100;
Many thanks.
hi,
Can anybody explain me the most interesting feature of C language apart from other languages.
Am expecting some nice replies , so that every one can brush up their own programming skills
i can tell you specifically structure and class.

Hi,
I understand that it's not a programming question, but still maybe someone here knows how comes that www.ipage.com is offering $115.00 to affiliates for every new customer ( that would buy, say, a $36 hosting plan ) ? Where's the catch?
Hi
I am familier with java programming language I like to extract the data from a website and store it to my database running on my machine.Is that possible in java.If so which API I should use. For example the are number of schools listed on a website How can I extract that data and store it to my database using java.
I am learning about heuristics and computer programming - which means 1. the shortest cut to the goal and 2. the estimated cost to the goal. However, I am not in a nutshell how to figure out the estimated cost to a goal. Any gurus able to lend their time would be greatly appreciated.
Hi
im looking (but cant find) for sample app that will show me how to implement UITableView with custom UITableViewCell that is similar to one in the Things app, with smooth animation from read-only view (that hides empty cells) to editable view that shows only cells that can be edited, and custom cell with multiline input with small image. I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction. Im new to Cocoa/Objective-C programming but Im familiar with Object Oriented programing concepts.
I am a beginner in Android programming. I want to build a simple application with a main list view in the screen and two buttons at the bottom of the screen.
When more items are added to the list view, the list view should scroll without increasing the overall length of the list view.
I'm wondering if you have one, or u know any developer/programmer online portofolio. I know many web developers have one (and in many cases very well designed), but not any C++ developer (for example). On the net there are only some good blogs about some programming language, but in many cases these are extremely poor from a design point of view and i'd say very "nerdy".
This is what I'm doing now. Is there a better way to access the super class?
public class SearchWidget {
private void addWishlistButton() {
final SearchWidget thisWidget = this;
button.addClickHandler(new ClickHandler() {
public void onClick(ClickEvent event) {
// A better way to access the super class?
// something like "this.super" ...?
workWithWidget(thisWidget);
}
}
}
}
I'm programming with Google Web Toolkit, but I think this is really a generic Java question.
how powerful is Bluetooth programming on Android? is it possible to add new protocols and encryption techniques? or even change in the current protocols? does it support bluetooth 2.1+EDR?
I am trying to write a pre-qualification programming exam, hopefully using Google Forms... however they seem to be unable to do new-lines in both the questions and the section headers...
My current format is new page for each question, with a "section header" as the main question (because it has a textarea for the "code snippet") and a "multiple choice question" as the ummm... question answer...
Help much appreciated...
I have a large dataset (c. 40G) that I want to use for some NLP (largely embarrassingly parallel) over a couple of computers in the lab, to which i do not have root access, and only 1G of user space.
I experimented with hadoop, but of course this was dead in the water-- the data is stored on an external usb hard drive, and i cant load it on to the dfs because of the 1G user space cap.
I have been looking into a couple of python based options (as I'd rather use NLTK instead of Java's lingpipe if I can help it), and it seems distributed compute options look like:
Ipython
DISCO
After my hadoop experience, i am trying to make sure i try and make an informed choice -- any help on what might be more appropriate would be greatly appreciated.
Amazon's EC2 etc not really an option, as i have next to no budget.
Hey guys,
We're getting a QA for the first time in our project. We're not sure how to best use him.
We work in an Agile environment. Pair programming, user stories, short sprints (two weeks), daily stand-ups, retrospectives, planning meetings, quick releases etc.
One obviously way to use a tester is to verify bugs fixes and user stories every sprint. Are there any better ways for an Agile team to utilize a tester.
Thanks,
Sri
Ever since I started programming this has been something I have been curious about. But seems too complicated for me to even attempt.
I'd love to see a solution.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 // returns 6 (n + 1)
10, 20, 30, 40, 50 //returns 60 (n + 10)
10, 17, 31, 59, 115 //returns 227 ((n * 2) - 3)
Does anyone could tell something about these file? As I know:
1. Common-Lisp and Scheme are both some lisp programming langue.
2. common-Lisp source file *.lisp can be compiled into binary file *.fasl which can be load faster than the source file.
Q:Can the Scheme source code *.scm be compiled into some binary file that will be load faster than the source code?
Thanks in advance
joe
Hi there.
Once I read an MSDN article that encouraged the following programming paradigm:
public class MyClass
{
public void Method1()
{
NewCustomException();
}
public void Method2()
{
NewCustomException();
}
void NewCustomException()
{
throw new CustomException("Exception message");
}
}
Do you think this paradigm makes sense? Wouldn't it be enough to store the exception message in a static const field and then pass it to the exception's constructor, instead of encapsulating the whole exception throw?
I don't want to take the time to learn Obj-C. I've spent 7+ years doing web application programming. Shouldn't there be a way to use the WebView and just write the whole app in javascript, pulling the files right from the resources of the project?
