• Escaping Problem in bash using isql

  Hi there, I am currently working on a little backup script from some firebird databases and I've come up with a weird escaping problem that I don't seem to be able to solve. Here's the thing in my script I create a variable called sqllog in which I would like to put the output of a chain of commands, here it is. sqllog=echo "SELECT * FROM RDB\$DATABASE;" | isql -u SYSDBA -pass mypasswd localhost:mydatabase | tail -n 2 | head -n 1 | wc -l if I try to execute this in shell I get the following error Statement failed, SQLCODE = -204 Dynamic SQL Error -SQL error code = -204 -Table unknown -RDB -At line 1, column 15. Table unknown RDB means it didn't take my try to escape the $. thx for any help :)

• how to handle exceptions/errors in php?

  when using 3rd part libraries they tend to throw exceptions to the browser and hence kill the script. eg. if im using doctrine and insert a duplicate record to the database it will throw an exception. i wonder, what is best practice for handling these exceptions. should i always do a try...catch? but doesn't that mean that i will have try...catch all over the script and for every single function/class i use? Or is it just for debugging? i don't quite get the picture. Cause if a record already exists in a database, i want to tell the user "Record already exists". And if i code a library or a function, should i always use "throw new Expcetion($message, $code)" when i want to create an error? Please shed a light on how one should create/handle exceptions/errors. Thanks

  I am working around a problem in Ubuntu 10.04 where after resume, the mouse cursor disappears. This can be "fixed" by running chvt 1; chvt 7 in a script in /etc/pm/sleep.d, such that those commands run on thaw and resume. However, the X console is not always vt #7, so chvt 7 is wrong in those cases. What I would like to do is find out the current vt in the fix-up script and make sure I change back to that vt. How can I find the current vt? (tty(1) just reports "not a tty")

I BELIEVE this involves modifying an attribute with printui, however it might need VB script or possibly another .NET language (I'd either use VB, C# or IronPython). I can add a comment to a given printer, but how do I select preferences and modify them? Pseudocode would look like this: printui.exe /n printername /???   Ok, since this problem has 2 parts, it will be easier to explain them together. So here goes: I am trying to remove the default decorators from these elements, since I am using a little different way of styling them. But no matter what i do, the DtDDWrapper still shows up.   Hi Guys, I am trying to create a little php script that can make my life a bit easier. Basically, I am going to have 21 text fields on a page where I am going to input 20 different numbers. In the last field I will enter a number let's call it the TOTAL AMMOUNT. All I want the script to do is to point out which numbers from the 20 fields added up will come up to TOTAL AMMOUNT. Example: field1= 25.23 field2= 34.45 field3= 56.67 field4= 63.54 field5= 87.54 .... field20= 4.2 Total Ammount= 81.90 Output: field1+fields3=81.90 Some of the fields might have 0 as value because sometimes I only need to enter 5-15 fields and the maximum will be 20. If someone can help me out with the php code for this, will be greatly appreciated.

  Hi, I've a python script which works just as it should but I need to write the time for the execution. I've gooled that I should use timeit but I can't seem to get it to work. • Inserting a newline into a pre tag (IE, Javascript)

  In IE when I insert text into a <pre> tag the newlines are ignored: <pre id="putItHere"></pre> <script> function putText() { document.getElementById("putItHere").innerHTML = "first line\nsecond line"; } </script> Using \r\n instead of a plain \n does not work. <br/> does work but inserts an extra blank line in FF, which is not acceptable for my purposes.

• Should I use DATE and TIME as fields rather than DATETIME

  I have a project on going for a TV guide, called mytvguide in the database - I use PHPMyAdmin. This is the structure for one table, which is called tvshow1: Field Type channel varchar(255) date date No airdate time No expiration time No episode varchar(255) setreminder varchar(255) but am not sure how to get DATE, TIME to work with the pagination script (below is the script, which works for the version with DATETIME): http://pastebin.com/6S1ejAFJ However, although the DATETIME one works - it shows programmes that air on the day itself like this: Programme 1 showing on Channel 1 2:35pm "Episode 2" Set Reminder Programme 1 showing on Channel 1 May 26th - 12:50pm "Episode 3" Set Reminder Programme 1 showing on Channel 1 May 26th - 5:55pm "Episode 3" Set Reminder but I'm not quite sure how to replicate that for the fields that use DATE, TIME functions as seen above. Any advice on this is appreciated, thanks!
