• How to display different value with ComboBoxTableCell?

  I try to use ComboxBoxTableCell without success. The content of the cell display the right value for the attribute of an object. But when the combobox is displayed, all items are displayed with the toString object method and not the attribute. I tryed to override updateItem of ComboBoxTableCell or to provide a StringConverter but nothing works. Do you have some ideas to custom comboxbox list display in a table cell ? I put a short example below to see quickly the problem. • Help with Design for Vacation Tracking System (C#/.NET/Access/WebServices/SOA/Excel) [closed]

  I have been tasked with developing a system for tracking our company's paid time-off (vacation, sick days, etc.) At the moment we are using an Excel spreadsheet on a shared network drive, and it works pretty well, but we are concerned that we won't be able to "trust" employees forever and sometimes we run into locking issues when two people try to open the spreadsheet at once. So we are trying to build something a little more robust. I would like some input on this design in terms of maintainability, scalability, extensibility, etc. It's a pretty simple workflow we need to represent right now: I started with a basic MS Access schema like this: Employees (EmpID int, EmpName varchar(50), AllowedDays int) Vacations (VacationID int, EmpID int, BeginDate datetime, EndDate datetime) But we don't want to spend a lot of time building a schema and database like this and have to change it later, so I think I am going to go with something that will be easier to expand through configuration. Right now the vacation table has this schema: Vacations (VacationID int, PropName varchar(50), PropValue varchar(50)) And the table will be populated with data like this: VacationID | PropName | PropValue -----------+--------------+------------------ 1 | EmpID | 4 1 | EmpName | James Jones 1 | Reason | Vacation 1 | BeginDate | 2/24/2010 1 | EndDate | 2/30/2010 1 | Destination | Spectate Swamp 2 | ... | ... I think this is a pretty good, extensible design, we can easily add new properties to the vacation like the destination or maybe approval status, etc. I wasn't too sure how to go about managing the database of valid properties, I thought of putting them in a separate PropNames table but it gets complicated to manage all the different data types and people say that you shouldn't put CLR type names into a SQL database, so I decided to use XML instead, here is the schema: <VacationProperties> <PropertyNames>EmpID,EmpName,Reason,BeginDate,EndDate,Destination</PropertyNames> <PropertyTypes>System.Int32,System.String,System.String,System.DateTime,System.DateTime,System.String</PropertyTypes> <PropertiesRequired>true,true,false,true,true,false</PropertiesRequired> </VacationProperties> I might need more fields than that, I'm not completely sure. I've used this code to implement the Web Services: public class VacationConfigurationService : WebService { [WebMethod] public void UpdateConfiguration(string xml) { // Above code goes here } } Which was pretty easy, although I'm still working on a way to validate that XML against some kind of schema as there's no error-checking yet. I also created a few different services for other operations like VacationSubmissionService, VacationReportService, VacationDataService, VacationAuthenticationService, etc. The whole Service Oriented Architecture looks like this: And because the workflow itself might change, I have been working on a way to integrate the WF workflow system with MS Visio, which everybody at the office already knows how to use so they could make changes pretty easily. We have a diagram that looks like the following (it's kind of hard to read but the main items are Activities, Authenticators, Validators, Transformers, Processors, and Data Connections, they're all analogous to the services in the SOA diagram above). We also want to interface it with the company Voice Mail system but that is not a "hard" requirement. Performance requirements: Must handle 250,000 Transactions Per Second Should be able to handle up to 20,000 employees (right now we have 3) 99.99% uptime ("four nines") expected Must be secure against outside hacking, but users cannot be required to enter a username/password. Platforms: Must support Windows XP/Vista/7, Linux, iPhone, Blackberry, DOS 2.0, VAX, IRIX, PDP-11, Apple IIc. Time to complete: 6 to 8 weeks. My questions are: Is this a good design for the system so far? Am I using all of the recommended best practices for these technologies? How do I integrate the Visio diagram above with the Windows Workflow Foundation to call the ConfigurationService and persist workflow changes? Am I missing any important components? Will this be extensible enough to support any scenario via end-user configuration? Will the system scale to the above performance requirements? Will we need any expensive hardware to run it? Are there any "gotchas" I should know about with respect to cross-platform compatibility? For example would it be difficult to convert this to an iPhone app? How long would you expect this to take?   Hi iam using a listbox to show a list of items. in the listbox i ahve an togglebutton on every item. When i click on the toggle button the state of the togglebutton is pressed.   I'm working on adding a todo list to a project system and would like to have the todo creation trigger a async postback to update the database. I'd really like to host this in a usercontrol so I can drop the todo list onto a project page, task page or stand alone todo list page. Here's what I have. My problem is on the inner list, when I position absolute, the inner list is centered to the page, and when I position relative, it is positioning inline with the parent list. • Binding collection indexes to a WPF DataGrid at runtime

  After trying to develop our own control to display a table of data we stumbled on the WPF toolkit DataGrid and thought we were saved. A couple hours later I'm scratching my head trying to figure out if it can do what we really want it to do. The DataGrid seems to be based on displaying various properties of a single object, where I think I need something that can display a collection's items, I want to display a table of strings with a variable number of rows and a variable number of columns. Each row represents the state of a number of inputs at a given time. The number of samples may change, and the number of inputs may change at runtime. As a result, I can't create a custom object that represents a row with a property for each input. This makes the DataGrid binding more complicated, since I can't bind to a fixed property for each column. I thought I found a workaround for this by binding to ".[" + channelIndex + ]" but it hasn't worked out quite the way I wanted. Right now I have a collection of a collection of strings that represents the two-dimensional array of strings. I'm using ObservableCollection so string change event notifications work, but I can use any collection type needed. It looked like everything was working great until I realized that every row was showing the same line of data. Binding in C# is not my strong suit, so I'm kind of lost on what's going wrong.   I have been tasked with developing a system for tracking our company's paid time-off (vacation, sick days, etc.) At the moment we are using an Excel spreadsheet on a shared network drive, and it works pretty well, but we are concerned that we won't be able to "trust" employees forever and sometimes we run into locking issues when two people try to open the spreadsheet at once. So we are trying to build something a little more robust. I would like some input on this design in terms of maintainability, scalability, extensibility, etc. It's a pretty simple workflow we need to represent right now: I started with a basic MS Access schema like this: Employees (EmpID int, EmpName varchar(50), AllowedDays int) Vacations (VacationID int, EmpID int, BeginDate datetime, EndDate datetime) But we don't want to spend a lot of time building a schema and database like this and have to change it later, so I think I am going to go with something that will be easier to expand through configuration. Right now the vacation table has this schema: Vacations (VacationID int, PropName varchar(50), PropValue varchar(50)) And the table will be populated with data like this: VacationID | PropName | PropValue -----------+--------------+------------------ 1 | EmpID | 4 1 | EmpName | James Jones 1 | Reason | Vacation 1 | BeginDate | 2/24/2010 1 | EndDate | 2/30/2010 1 | Destination | Spectate Swamp 2 | ... | ... I think this is a pretty good, extensible design, we can easily add new properties to the vacation like the destination or maybe approval status, etc. I wasn't too sure how to go about managing the database of valid properties, I thought of putting them in a separate PropNames table but it gets complicated to manage all the different data types and people say that you shouldn't put CLR type names into a SQL database, so I decided to use XML instead, here is the schema: <VacationProperties> <PropertyNames>EmpID,EmpName,Reason,BeginDate,EndDate,Destination</PropertyNames> <PropertyTypes>System.Int32,System.String,System.String,System.DateTime,System.DateTime,System.String</PropertyTypes> <PropertiesRequired>true,true,false,true,true,false</PropertiesRequired> </VacationProperties> I might need more fields than that, I'm not completely sure. We have a diagram that looks like the following (it's kind of hard to read but the main items are Activities, Authenticators, Validators, Transformers, Processors, and Data Connections, they're all analogous to the services in the SOA diagram above). The requirements for this system are: (Note - I don't control these, they were given to me by management) Main workflow must interface with Excel spreadsheet, probably through VBA macros (to ease the transition to the new system) Alerts should integrate with MS Outlook, Lotus Notes, and SMS (text messages). We also want to interface it with the company Voice Mail system but that is not a "hard" requirement. Performance requirements: Must handle 250,000 Transactions Per Second Should be able to handle up to 20,000 employees (right now we have 3) 99.99% uptime ("four nines") expected Must be secure against outside hacking, but users cannot be required to enter a username/password. Platforms: Must support Windows XP/Vista/7, Linux, iPhone, Blackberry, DOS 2.0, VAX, IRIX, PDP-11, Apple IIc. Time to complete: 6 to 8 weeks. My questions are: Is this a good design for the system so far? Am I using all of the recommended best practices for these technologies? How do I integrate the Visio diagram above with the Windows Workflow Foundation to call the ConfigurationService and persist workflow changes? Am I missing any important components? Will this be extensible enough to support any scenario via end-user configuration? Will the system scale to the above performance requirements? Will we need any expensive hardware to run it? Are there any "gotchas" I should know about with respect to cross-platform compatibility? For example would it be difficult to convert this to an iPhone app? How long would you expect this to take? (We've dedicated 1 week for testing so I'm thinking maybe 5 weeks?)

• Problem with room/screen/menu controller in python game: old rooms are not removed from memory

  I'm literally banging my head against a wall here (as in, yes, physically, at my current location, I am damaging my cranium). Basically, I've got a Python/Pygame game with some typical game "rooms", or "screens." EG title screen, high scores screen, and the actual game room. Something bad is happening when I switch between rooms: the old room (and its various items) are not removed from memory, or from my event listener. Not only that, but every time I go back to a certain room, my number of event listeners increases, as well as the RAM being consumed! (So if I go back and forth between the title screen and the "game room", for instance, the number of event listeners and the memory usage just keep going up and up. The main issue is that all the event listeners start to add up and really drain the CPU. I'm new to Python, and don't know if I'm doing something obviously wrong here, or what. • Why is my WCF RIA Services custom object deserializing with an extra list member?

  I have been developing a Silverlight WCF RIA Services application dealing with mock financial transactions. To more efficiently send summary data to the client without going overboard with serialized entities I have created a summary class that isn’t in my EDM, and figured out how to serialize and send it over the wire to the SL client using DataContract() and DataMember(). Everything seemed to be working out great, until I tried to bind controls to a list inside my custom object. The list seems to always get deserialized with an extra, almost empty entity in it that I don’t know how to get rid of. So, here are some of the pieces. Does it have anything to do with the other list of Transaction entities being serialized as part of the EconomicsSummary class (TotalAccountHistory)? Do I need to decorate the EconomicsSummary class members a little more/differently? -Second, where are the peculiar values coming from on that extra entity? PRE-POSTING UPDATE 1: I did a little checking, it looks like that last entry is the first one in the TotalAccountHistory list. Do I need to do something with CollectionDataContract()? PRE-POSTING UPDATE 2: I fixed one bug in TotalAccountHistory, since the objects weren’t coming from the database their keys weren’t unique. So I set the keys on the Transaction entities inside TotalAccountHistory to be unique and guess what? Now, after deserialization RecentTransactions contains all its original items, plus every item in TotalAccountHistory. I’m pretty sure this has to do with the deserializer getting confused by two collections of the same type. But I don’t yet know how to resolve it…

• iphone Dev - activity indicator with NSThread not working on Nav controller table view

  I really can't get this to work, basically when my JSON feeds loads I want the indicator to show, then hide when it's stopped. It loads top level menu items 1st "Publishing, Broadcasting, Marketing Services", then when Broadcasting is selected it loads a feed using the JSON framework hosted on Google. Round this load I call startIndicator and stopIndicator using the NSThread. • Windows 2008 RenderFarm Service: CreateProcessAsUser "Session 0 Isolation" and OpenGL

  Hello, I have a legacy Windows server service and (spawned) application that works fine in XP-64 and W2K3, but fails on W2K8. I believe it is because of the new "Session 0 isolation " feature. (Note: As a StackOverflow newbie I'm being limited to one link in this post, so you'll need to scroll to bottom to lookup the links for '' items)* Consequently, I'm looking for code samples/security settings mojo that let you create a new process from a windows service for Windows 2008 Server such that I can restore (and possibly surpass) the previous behavior. I need a solution that: Creates the new process in a non-zero session to get around session-0 isolation restrictions (no access to graphics hardware from session 0) - the official MS line on this is: Because Session 0 is no longer a user session, services that are running in Session 0 do not have access to the video driver. This means that any attempt that a service makes to render graphics fails. Querying the display resolution and color depth in Session 0 reports the correct results for the system up to a maximum of 1920x1200 at 32 bits per pixel. The new process gets a windows station/desktop (e.g. winsta0/default) that can be used to create windows DCs. I've found a solution (that launches OK in an interactive session) for this here: *(Starting an Interactive Client Process in C++ - 2) The windows DC, when used as the basis for an *(OpenGL DescribePixelFormat enumeration - 3), is able to find and use the hardware-accelerated format (on a system appropriately equipped with OpenGL hardware.) Note that our current solution works OK on XP-64 and W2K3, except if a terminal services session is running (VNC works fine.) A solution that also allowed the process to work (i.e. run with OpenGL hardware acceleration even when a terminal services session is open) would be fanastic, although not required. I'm stuck at item #1 currently, and although there are some similar postings that discuss this (like *(this -4), and *(this - 5) - they are not suitable solutions, as there is no guarantee of a user session logged in already to "take" a session id from, nor am I running from a LocalSystem account (I'm running from a domain account for the service, for which I can adjust the privileges of, within reason, although I'd prefer to not have to escalate priorities to include SeTcbPrivileges.) For instance - here's a stub that I think should work, but always returns an error 1314 on the SetTokenInformation call (even though the AdjustTokenPrivileges returned no errors) I've used some alternate strategies involving "LogonUser" as well (instead of opening the existing process token), but I can't seem to swap out the session id. I'm also dubious about using the WTSActiveConsoleSessionId in all cases (for instance, if no interactive user is logged in) - although a quick test of the service running with no sessions logged in seemed to return a reasonable session value (1). • Crash when trying to get NSManagedObject from NSFetchedResultsController after 25 objects?

  Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to Core Data on iOS, but I think I've been getting better with it. I've been experiencing a bizarre crash, however, in one of my applications and have not been able to figure it out. I have approximately 40 objects in Core Data, presented in a UITableView. When tapping on a cell, a UIActionSheet appears, presenting the user with a UIActionSheet with options related to the cell that was selected. • How can I make a jQuery UI 'draggable()' div draggable for touchscreen?

  I have a jQuery UI draggable() that works in Firefox and Chrome. The user interface concept is basically click to create a "post-it" type item. Basically, I click or tap on div#everything (100% high and wide) that listens for clicks, and an input textarea displays. You add text, and then when you're done it saves it. You can drag this element around. That is working on normal browsers, but on an iPad I can test with I can't drag the items around. If I touch to select (it then dims slightly), I can't then drag it. It won't drag left or right at all. I can drag up or down, but I'm not dragging the individual div, I'm dragging the whole webpage.   I created a simple tab control that has 2 tabs (each tab is a different dialog). The thing is that i don't have any idea how to switch between tabs (when the user presses Titlu Tab1 to show the dialog i made for the first tab, and when it presses Titlu Tab2 to show my other dialog). I added a handler for changing items, but i don't know how should i acces some kind of index or child for tabs. Tab1.h and Tab2.h are headers for dialogs that show only static texts with the name of the each tab. There may be an obvious answer to my question, but i am a real newbie in c++ and MFC. • Tabular (X)HTML forms

  I have a set of items that can be in various states. I want to allow a user to use an (X)HTML form to change the state, and easily view the state of a group of objects ...so to this end, I'd like a layout like: | item1 | radio button for state 1 | radio for state 2 | ... | [update button] | | item2 | radio button for state 1 | radio for state 2 | ... | [update button] | etc. I prefer the radio buttons to list boxes so that it's easy for a user to visually scan for things in a certain state. It seemed like perfectly tabular data to me. The only problem is, you can't have forms inside a table that cross table cells (ie. <tr> <form> <td> ... is invalid). I thought, "hey, I could have one giant form wrapping a table, and make the [update button] value contain the IDs for each row!" Turns out certain versions of IE send ALL THE SUBMIT BUTTON VALUES on any single form. So I thought perhaps to to lay it out with <div>s and place the forms inside a single <td>. But then they break a line on each <div>. So I fixed their width and made them float: left. But then they wrap inside the table cells if the table row is wider than the page, and the radio controls don't line up with the headings. Is it possible to lay this out as I intend? The XHTML below shows the intended structure.   i have a listview with some items.when the user touch the first list item it starts a dialog activity with a photo and some text below.that happens for every list item.but unfortunately i m getting
