• SharePoint Saturday Huntsville Wrap Up

  So, Cathy Dew (@catpaint1) and company put on a great SharePoint Saturday event this past weekend. I got to hang out with some old friends and meet some new ones. I’d list you all, but I’d undoubtedly miss someone and don’t want to offend anyone.  Although I find it odd that I see @MossLover now more since she moved to New Jersey than when she lived next door in Kansas City… what’s up with that? Anyway, Cathy did a tremendous job organizing the event.  Everything went smoothly and everyone had a great time. Maybe I can talk her into organizing the rest of SharePoint Saturday Ozarks on June 12th… you know that’s coming up? right? • Are two database trips reasonable for a login system?

  I am designing a login system for a project, and have an issue about it requiring two trips to the database when a user logs in. User types in username and password Database is polled and password hash is retrieved for comparative purposes (first trip) Code tests hash against entered password (and salt), and if verified, resets the session ID New session ID and username are sent back to the database to write a row to the login table, and generate a login ID for that session. EDIT: I am using a random salt. Does this design make sense? Am I missing something? Is my concern about two trips unfounded? Comments and suggestions are welcome.

  Hello so I was hoping someone knew how to move or change color and position actual image pixels and could explain and show the code to do so. I know how to write pixels on a surface or screen-surface usigned int *ptr = static_cast <unsigned int *> (screen-pixels); int offset = y * (screen->pitch / sizeof(unsigned int)); ptr[offset + x] = color; But I don't know how to alter or manipulate a image pixel of a png image my thoughts on this was How do I get the values and locations of pixels and what do I have to write to make it happen? • PHP OOP: Am i following right way?

  I'm learning OOP (PHP). I've realized my own CRUD Class, that performs some kind of queries SQL. Btw, a Gasoline asked us to realize a smart, simple web-app where he can update prices of his gasoline (gasoline, diesel, lpg) and via an API i could recall them and display in his site. So, I did create a new Class Gasoline but it perform some methods of CRUD Class public function getPrezzoBenzina($id) { $prezzo_benzina = $this->distributore->sql('SELECT prezzo_benzina FROM prezzi WHERE id = '.$id); return $prezzo_benzina } And so on (code is pseudocode, just to explain). I could perform all my code only with help of Crud Class... without necessity of Class Gasoline. So, what I'm missing about OOP? Where am I wrong?

Then it should show a blank site with some meta tags in the header. • Name attribute is obsolete, what is the correct behavior when dealing with anchors?

  Putting some code through the html5 validator, I get this: Warning: The name attribute on the a element is obsolete. Consider putting an id attribute on the nearest container instead. I find that unclear. Is the "nearest container" for an anchor link the a itself, so that the correct code would be <a id='blah'> instead of <a name='blah'>? Or are empty placeholder <a> tags as a whole deprecated, and anchors can simply point to any element with an id instead?

• Vaadin Calendar events not shown if overnight [migrated]

  In my vaadin project there is the possibility to create events that are shown by the calendar. It does works, except when the event is overnight, let's say the night from 23th to 24th, and the calendar shows as only day the 24th. In this case the part of the event that belongs to the 24th is supposed to be shown, but it is not. When I switch to weekly view, the event is shown properly. • How to disable integrated webcam and still be able to use an external one

  I am looking for a way to disable the webcam that is integrated into my laptop. The webcam is using uvcvideo module but I do not want to blacklist it since it is also being used by an external webcam I have. Is there any way of disabling the device itself without touching the modules list? This is how the webcams are listed by lsusb. The first one is an integrated one (It is identified by some apps as BisonCam NB Pro), the second one is the external Logitech C525: Bus 002 Device 004: ID 5986:0361 Acer, Inc Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:0826 Logitech, Inc. I have already checked BIOS - there is no way of disabling the webcam from there. Besides I would love to learn how to disable the device by ID anyway. Thanks!

• How do I drag my widgets without dragging other widgets?

  I have a bunch of drag-able widgets on screen. When I am dragging one of the widgets around, if I drag the mouse over another widget, that widget then gets "snagged" and is also dragged around. While this is kind of a neat thing and I can think of a few game ideas based on that alone, that was not intended. :-P Background Info I have a Widget class that is the basis for my user interface controls. It has a bunch of properties that define it's size, position, image information, etc. It also defines some events, OnMouseOver, OnMouseOut, OnMouseClick, etc. All of the event handler functions are virtual, so that child objects can override them and make use of their implementation without duplicating code. Widgets are not aware of each other. They cannot tell each other, "Hey, I'm dragging so bugger off!" The OnMouseDown event gets fired whenever the mouse is hovered over the Widget and when the left mouse button is "down" (but not necessarily in that order!). That means that even if I hold the mouse down somewhere else on screen, and simply move it over anything that IsDraggable, it will "hook" onto the mouse and go for a ride. So, now that it's obvious that I'm Doing It Wrong™, how do I do this correctly?

  I'm just an average Joe when it comes to computing (maybe less then the average Joe) but I hate tap-to-click. In system and settings there is no touchpad tab? Is it true that this has been fixed? I'm using Dell inspiron N5110 xinput list: ? Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)] ? ? Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)] ? ? PS/2 Generic Mouse id=13 [slave pointer (2)] This is really strange because Dell is one of the top manufacturers in laptops and Ubuntu one of the top distros in Linux and Canonical claims that they are working closely with Dell.

• What's the syntax to add a calendar reminder from Google Command Line?

  I've been using googlecl successfully to add events to my calendar. Things like: google calendar add "call Paul tomorrow at 8:30am" work great, and add the appropriate event t the right time. But no reminder is added for the event. I tried: google calendar add "call Paul tomorrow at 8:30am reminder 10 minutes" and other combinations. It just ends up adding the "reminder" instruction to the event description. What's the syntax I should use to add a, let's say, 10 minutes pop-up reminder? Thanks

• Successful Fusion CRM Bootcamp in Paris - July 24-24th

  The first Fusion CRM Bootcamp for EMEA partners successfully took place in the Paris Pullmann Bercy hotel on July 24-26th. The agenda covered 14 Fusion CRM topics in depth, including detailed presentations and hands-on exercises, delivered by a team of Fusion CRM experts from Oracle Product Development. 89 participants represented 55 companies from 14 different countries, attended this event which was also a great opportunity to network with Oracle Product Development and Alliances & Channels executives during the breaks and the "Fusion Lounge" session each day after the training. As expressed by the participants in the event survey, the overall satisfaction reached to an impressive percentage of 85+ with the response of “met or exceeded the expectations” and with individual comments such as: On top of the presentation of Fusion CRM as a product, this event allowed to better understand Oracle's product and rollout strategy. The ability to meet the development team was really a bonus. In the current implementation when some entity must receive damage, game logic just fires off event that contains damage value and the entity id which should receive that damage. And all HealthBehaviors are subscribed to the DamageEvent type, which leads to any entity possesing HealthBehavior call OnDamage() even if he is not the addressee.

• Issue with Windows Server backup

  I have windows server 2008 r2 installed, Only service running on it is hyper-v. I am trying to take backup using windows server backup feature and it fails with following error in eventlog The backup operation that started at '?2009?-?08?-?22T18:42:14.123000000Z' has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy Service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backed up failed with following error code '2155348129'. Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved. Above error itself is point to other event logs for more detail but i can't find anything in event logs Then i ran following command vssadmin list writers It had following out of ordinary in list Writer name: 'Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer' Writer Id: {66841cd4-6ded-4f4b-8f17-fd23f8ddc3de} Writer Instance Id: {d15c5f78-121c-464f-b23b-f285e919b05c} State: [8] Failed Last error: Inconsistent shadow copy How could i resolve this?

• when should a database table be broken into multiple tables with relations?

  I have an application that needs to store client data, and part of that is some data about their employer as well. Assuming that a client can only have one employer, and that the chance of people having identical employer data is slim to none, which schema would make more sense to use? Schema 1 Client Table: ------------------- id int name varchar(255), email varchar(255), address varchar(255), city varchar(255), state char(2), zip varchar(16), employer_name varchar(255), employer_phone varchar(255), employer_address varchar(255), employer_city varchar(255), employer_state char(2), employer_zip varchar(16) **Schema 2** Client Table ------------------ id int name varchar(255), email varchar(255), address varchar(255), city varchar(255), state char(2), zip varchar(16), Employer Table --------------------- id int name varchar(255), phone varchar(255), address varchar(255), city varchar(255), state char(2), zip varchar(16) patient_id int Part of me thinks that since are clearly two different 'objects' in the real world, seperating them out into two different tables makes sense. However, since a client will always have an employer, I'm also not seeing any real benefits to seperating them out, and it would make querying data about clients more complex. Is there any benefit / reason for creating two tables in a situation like this one instead of one?

• How do I make a USB RS232 dongle show up in /dev/ttyUSB* ?

  I have a couple of FTDI based USB to Rs232 serial dongles. Sometimes when I plug them into my Ubuntu 10.04 laptop, they show up as /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1, which is what I want to have happen. But sometimes they don't. When they don't, sometimes rebooting fixes the problem and sometimes it doesn't. They always show up in lsusb hanging off of Bus 5: Bus 005 Device 003: ID 0403:6001 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd FT232 USB-Serial (UART) IC Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0403:6001 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd FT232 USB-Serial (UART) IC Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub I can see them if I do ls /dev/bus/usb/005 as 002 and 003. But if I pass /dev/bus/usb/005/002 to pyserial, which is what I'm using to access /dev/ttyUSBx, I get SerialException("Could not open port: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/dev/bus/usb/005/002'",).
