• Can Delphi 5 generate a .PDB file that VS can use?

  We've got this large application written in Delphi 5, and development is ongoing to this day. There is research going on into migrating to newer versions, but so far there is no success, as some 3rd party components have not been updated in ages and do not work on later versions. In the meantime however people need to continue work on it. Now Delphi 5 IDE is no real treat. It's pretty bug-ridden and lacks a lot of features of contemporary IDEs which makes it difficult to use. Especially when it comes to debugging. So I was wondering - would it be possible to use Visual Studio in the process? As far as I know the .PDB file format is pretty old and is well documented. Could it be possible to make the Delphi compiler to somehow generate a .PDB files for it's compiled results? Then the program could be debugged with Visual Studio, possibly to a much greater extent than in the original IDE. Well, the absolute Holy Grail would be to move all development to VS, just keeping the compiler from Delphi, but I imagine that would be pretty impossible.

  My specific problem is that I have configured two beans that implement the same interface and I have a third bean that has a property of that interface's type. I inject the property using a config property. So, assuming RemoteDataSource and LocalDataSource implement IDataSource and dao1 has a property of type IDataSource, my XML config might look like this: <bean id="datasource1" class="com.foo.RemoteDataSource"> <property name="url">${url}</property> </bean> <bean id="datasource2" class="com.foo.LocalDataSource"> <property name="path">${filepath}</property> </bean> <bean id="dao1" class="com.foo.MyDAO"> <property name="dataSource">${datasource}</property> </bean> With url, filepath and datasource being defined in an included properties file. We are now making a push for annotation-driven configuration and I'm not sure how to annotate my dao to put the data source configured in the property file.   I'm creating an application that collects users location (Cell broadcast location code) and saves that location with a name of users option, for example say my CB location code is 546034, now my app allows me to store that location code with a name of my choice say 'Home'. So, essentially my app has that following modules, To collect users CB location. To collect a custom name from user of that location. To store these values in a database. I've succeeded in doing all the above modules. I have a sub-module for my third module which has an option for user, of showing and deleting the database values, the screen shot looks as follows, Now, Users should be able to view and delete entries when he chooses the option 'View my database of locations' I've learned how to query my database values and I'm stuck with creating a list view and providing the delete option. I am able to select the xElement (xEl1) and update its value. • Good functions and techniques for dealing with haskell tuples?

  I've been doing a lot of work with tuples and lists of tuples recently and I've been wondering if I'm being sensible. Things feel awkward and clunky which for me signals that I'm doing something wrong. For example I've written three convenience functions for getting the first, second and third value in a tuple of 3 values. Is there a better way I'm missing? Are there more general functions that allow you to compose and manipulate tuple data? Here are some things I am trying to do that feel should be generalisable. Extracting values: Do I need to create a version of fst,snd,etc... for tuples of size two, three, four and five, etc...? fst3(x,_,_) = x fst4(x,_,_,_) = x Manipulating values: Can you increment the last value in a list of pairs and then use that same function to increment the last value in a list of triples? Zipping and Unzipping values: There is a zip and a zip3. Do I also need a zip4? or is there some way of creating a general zip function? Sorry if this seems subjective, I honestly don't know if this is even possible or if I'm wasting my time writing 3 extra functions every time I need a general solution. • Linear Interpolation. How to implement this algorithm in C ? (Python version is given)

  There exists one very good linear interpolation method. It performs linear interpolation requiring at most one multiply per output sample. I found its description in a third edition of Understanding DSP by Lyons. This method involves a special hold buffer. Given a number of samples to be inserted between any two input samples, it produces output points using linear interpolation. Here, I have rewritten this algorithm using Python: temp1, temp2 = 0, 0 iL = 1.0 / L for i in x: hold = [i-temp1] * L temp1 = i for j in hold: temp2 += j y.append(temp2 *iL) where x contains input samples, L is a number of points to be inserted, y will contain output samples. My question is how to implement such algorithm in ANSI C in a most effective way, e.g. is it possible to avoid the second loop? NOTE: presented Python code is just to understand how this algorithm works. • Custom API requirement

  We are currently working on an API for an existing system. It basically wraps some web-requests as an easy-to-use library that 3rd party companies should be able to use with our product. As part of the API, there is an event mechanism where the server can call back to the client via a constantly-running socket connection. To minimize load on the server, we want to only have one connection per computer. Currently there is a socket open per process, and that could eventually cause load problems if you had multiple applications using the API. So my question is: if we want to deploy our API as a single standalone assembly, what is the best way to fix our problem? A couple options we thought of: Write an out of process COM object (don't know if that works in .Net) Include a second exe file that would be required for events, it would have to single-instance itself, and open a named pipe or something to communicate through multiple processes Extract this exe file from an embedded resource and execute it None of those really seem ideal. Any better ideas?

• Logging in to Wordpress through CodeIgniter DX Authentication

  Hello All, I'm about to start a very large project of rebuilding my companies intranet. The plan is to have most of the intranet live in a CI application. I chose to use CI because i'm very familiar with all the CI methods. Some sections of the intranet are going to be wordpress blogs. For example the Human Resources Dept. and the Marketing Dept will have their own wordpress blogs. Ideally my plan is to log on to the intranet, with a CI authentication library like DXAuth by querying the Active Directory of the company. When I return the AD information for the user I will by saving their group memberships into a session. It would be fantastic if I could have that session information of the user be used by wordpress to log the user as an editor if they are a member of the Marketing Group. And allow users who are not members of the group be able to comment on that blog, with out logging into wordpress. My question is if there are any CI classes or Wordpress Plugins, or tutorals out there, of this sort of integration with the two systems. Thank you for your help!

• What could the negative effects be of attaching to a process as a debugger?

  Background A client of mine has a major problem. They have a CRM system, which was created by a single person over a period of 9 years. Unfortunatelly, a few weeks ago, this person died. I believe the company has learned their lesson, and they have started a project of rewriting the CRM system to a modern platform. I have been hired to create a solution in the meantime to make adaptations to the CRM system. I have given up understanding the code, as this would take too long. My solution, is therefore, to make a window and show this on top of the CRM system, whenever this CRM system is showing. This part works fine, but my major problem is extracting the data from the CRM system. Proposed solution After excluding 6 approaches, including runtime code injection, memory searching, database integration, I have arrived at attaching to the process as a debugger, so I get notified about event, and use this in combination with reading from process memory. This approach seems to work, but I am worried about possible side-effects of this approach. Question What are the dangers of using this in a production environment, where there are 250 employees utilizing the system. Needless to say, I cannot risk reducing the already shaky stability of the system.

• Overlaying one div over another, but not knowing the size of the div

  I'm trying to lay one div over another. This is really simple if you know the dimensions of the div. Solved here: How to overlay one div over another div So, here is my HTML: <div class="container"> <div class="overlay"></div> <div class="content"></div> </div> In my case, I don't know the exact dimensions of the "content" or "container" div. This is because I don't have control over any of the content in the div (we are making our app extensible for 3rd party developers). See my example on jsFiddle The overlay should cover the content entirely. Width 100% and Height 100%. However, this does not work because in my example I positioned the overlay absolutely. One solution is to use JavaScript to get the size of the content div and then set the size of the overlay. I don't like this solution much since if image sizes are not specified, you need to wait until images are loaded and recalculate the size of the div. Is there any way of solving this problem in CSS?

  Each time I'm writing a method that takes a boolean parameter representing an option, I find myself thinking: "should I replace this by an enum which would make reading the method calls much easier?". Consider the following with an object that takes a parameter telling whether the implementation should use its thread-safe version or not (I'm not asking here if this way of doing this is good design or not, only the use of the boolean): public void CreateSomeObject(bool makeThreadSafe); CreateSomeObject(true); When the call is next to the declaration the purpose of the parameter seems of course obvious. When it's in some third party library you barely know, it's harder to immediately see what the code does, compared to: public enum CreationOptions { None, MakeThreadSafe } public void CreateSomeObject(CreationOptions options); CreateSomeObject(CreationOptions.MakeThreadSafe); which describes the intent far better. Things get worse when there's two boolean parameters representing options. See what happened to ObjectContext.SaveChanges(bool) between Framework 3.5 and 4.0. It has been obsoleted because a second option has been introduced and the whole thing has been converted to an enum. While it seems obvious to use an enumeration when there's three elements or more, what's your opinion and experiences about using an enum instead a boolean in these specific cases?

  I am using excel 2010. I am trying to create pivot table between two worksheets 'Summary' and 'Summary2'. I have identical row of data ranging from cells B5 to F5 in row 5 in both worksheets. Data in the two worksheets looks like this: Summary worksheet: Issues,20,3,4,5 Summary2 worksheet: Issues,10,0,3,9 Worksheet referes to issues from location 1 and worksheet referes to issues from location 2. Col B has title 'issues', Col C refers to issues of customer 1, Col D refers to issues of customer 2, Col E refers to issues of customer 3, Col F refers to issues of customer 4 I go to a third worksheet and start pivot table and in the table range I give this: 'Summary:Summary2'!$B$5:$F$5. Then I Say OK. Gives error "data reference source is not valid". Can someone tell me how to select the row from two different worksheet in pivot table? Also I want to be able to add issues of customers between two locations and get % completion for each locaiton. Can someone please help?

• Fluent NHibernate no data being returned

  Hello, I have been successfully using NHibernate, but now I am trying to move to Fluent NHibernate. I have created all of my mapping files and set up my session manager to use a Fluent Configuration. I then run my application and it runs successfully, but no data is returned. There are no errors or any indication that there is a problem, but nothing runs. when using NHibernate, if I don't set my hbm xml files as an embedded resource, this same thing happens. This makes me wonder what I have to set my Map classes to. Right now, they are just set to Compile, and they are compiled into the dll, which I can see by disassembling it. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what may be happening here? • Prevent hash navigation url

  I have the following problem: I'm using a slider (coda) to let people navigate trough some 'pages'. The slider uses hash links to navigate to the next page/slide. If a user is at page one (#page1), there is a link which will lead the user to page 2 (#page2) and so on. At the top of the slider the numbers of the pages appear as a link, but only when the page is visited. So if there are six pages and the user navigates from the first to the second and then the third one, there are only three links at the top of the slider (to page one, two and three). The problem is that a user can navigate to page five (or any page actually) without first visiting the pages previous to page five by just using the hash URL and typing the whole link in their address bar. For example if I would type www.mydomain.com/slider/index.php#page5 the slider automatically navigates to the fifth slide/page of the slider and thereby skipping the first four. I want to allow users to navigate to #page5 only if they have visited the first four (So by clicking trough the slides). This means that if they would go to #page5 directly by typing the URL in the address bar, I would like them to be send to the first page (#page1). Does anyone have any idea on solving this?

  I'd like to ask your input on what the best practice is for handling null or empty data values when it pertains to data warehousing and SSIS/SSAS. I have several fact and dimension tables that contain null values in different rows. Specifics: 1) What is the best way to handle null date/times values? Should I make a 'default' row in my time or date dimensions and point SSIS to the default row when there is a null found? 2) What is the best way to handle nulls/empty values inside of dimension data. Ex: I have some rows in an 'Accounts' dimensions that have empty (not NULL) values in the Account Name column. Should I convert these empty or null values inside the column to a specific default value? 3) Similar to point 1 above - What should I do if I end up with a Facttable row that has no record in one of the dimension columns? Do I need default dimension records for each dimension in case this happens? 4) Any suggestion or tips in regards to how to handle these operation in Sql server integration services (SSIS)? Best data flow configurations or best transformation objects to use would be helpful. Thanks :-)

  I have Eclipse configured to use an external maven instance. Nonetheless I have an integration test that runs fine from the command line, but fails from within Eclipse. The error is a class Spring application context bean error: Cannot convert value of type [java.lang.String] to required type The culprit it a bean that sets property values using a PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer. <!-- property settings for non-JNDI database connections --> <bean id="placeholderConfigUuid" class="org.springframework.beans.factory.config.PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer"> <property name="systemPropertiesModeName" value="SYSTEM_PROPERTIES_MODE_OVERRIDE" /> <property name="location" value="classpath:database.properties" /> <property name="placeholderPrefix" value="$DS{" /> </bean> I know which bean is failing because it appears in the stack trace and because when I replace the $DS{hibernate.dialect} with a static value it works. I have two questions: 1) Since M2Eclipse is using the same Maven setup as the command line, why does one work and the other fail? 2) How to fix this? I really like the ability to run a single jUnit test from within Eclipse on demand.

However, when I try to connect from a remote computer, not on the LAN, given the server's IP address, I receive the following exception on the client after a long wait: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time How can I resolve this? I'm sure it's a configuration problem because the ports are forwarded properly on the server and there is no firewall active. Thanks

• OpenCV compare two images and get different pixels

  For some reason the code bellow is not working. I have two 640*480 images which are very similar but not the same (at least few hundred/thousand pixels should be different). This is how I am comparing them and counting different pixels: unsigned char* row; unsigned char* row2; int count = 0; // this happens in a loop // fIplImageHeader is current image // lastFIplImageHeader is image from previous iteration if ( NULL != lastFIplImageHeader->imageData ) { for( int y = 0; y < fIplImageHeader->height; y++ ) { row = &CV_IMAGE_ELEM( fIplImageHeader, unsigned char, y, 0 ); row2 = &CV_IMAGE_ELEM( lastFIplImageHeader, unsigned char, y, 0 ); for( int x = 0; x < fIplImageHeader->width*fIplImageHeader->nChannels; x += fIplImageHeader->nChannels ) { if (row[x] == row2[x]) // the pixel in the first channel (usually G) { count++; } if (row[x+1] == row2[x+1]) // ... second channel (usually B) { count++; } if (row[x+2] == row2[x+2]) // ... third channel (usually R) { count++; } } } } Now at the end I get number 3626 which would seem alright. But, I tried opening one of the images in MS Paint and drawing thick red lines all over it which should increase the number of different pixels substantially. I got the same number again: 3626. Obviously I am doing something wrong here. I am comparing these images in a loop. This line is before the loop: IplImage* lastFIplImageHeader = cvCreateImageHeader(cvSize(640, 480), 8, 3); Then inside the loop I load images like this: IplImage* fIplImageHeader = cvLoadImage( filePath.c_str() ); // here I compare the pixels (the first code snippet) lastFIplImageHeader->imageData = fIplImageHeader->imageData; So lastFIplImageHeader is storing the image from the previous iteration and fIplImageHeader is storing the current image.

  I want a function that changes (1 to 0) on a list, when number of 1's isn't even. I have done these functions: 1) Sees if the lines in a list are even or not: parityLine :: [[Int]] -> [Bool] parityLine [] =[] parityLine (x:xs) |sum(x) `mod` 2 == 0 = True:(parityLine(xs)) |otherwise = False:(parityLine(xs)) 2) Sum the corresponding elements on a list of lists: sumPositions :: [[Int]] -> [Int] sumPositions [] = [] sumPositions (x:xs) = foldl (zipWith (+)) (repeat 0) (x:xs) 3) Sees if the columns in a list are even or not: parityColumn :: [Int] -> [Bool] parityColumn [] = [] parityColumn (x:xs) |head(x:xs) `mod` 2 == 0 = True:parityColumn(xs) |otherwise = False:parityColumn(xs) 4) Does the operation or with two boolean lists: bol :: [Bool] -> [Bool] -> [[Bool]] bol [] _ = [] bol (x:xs) (y:ys)= (map (||x) (y:ys)):(bol xs (y:ys)) 5) Correct List: correct :: [[Int]] -> [[Bool]] correct [] = [] correct (x:xs)=(bol(parityLine (x:xs))(parityColumn(sumPositions(x:xs)))) So what I want is to alter the function correct to [[Int]]-[[Int]] that does this: My Int list(x:xs) With my correct function applied [[0,0,1,1], [[True,True,False,True], [1,0,1,1], [True,True,True,True], [0,1,0,1], [True,True,True,True] [1,1,1,1]] [True,True,True,True]] Now I can see that in the first line third column, False, so I have to correct that number 1 to have a number of 1's even. Result I want that function correct does: [[0,0,0,1], [1,0,1,1], [0,1,0,1], [1,1,1,1]] Thanks.
