• Java replace slow?

  Hi StackOverflow, I have a Java application that makes heavy use of a large file, to read, process and give through to SolrEmbeddedServer (http://lucene.apache.org/solr/). One of the functions does basic HTML escaping: private String htmlEscape(String input) { return input.replace("&", "&amp;").replace(">", "&gt;").replace("<", "&lt;") .replace("'", "&apos;").replaceAll("\"", "&quot;"); } While profiling the application, the program spends roughly 58% of the time in this function, a total of 47% in replace, and 11% in replaceAll. Now, is the Java replace that slow, or am I on the right path and should I consider the program efficient enough to have its bottleneck in Java and not in my code? (Or am I replacing wrong?) • Binding position to ActualHeight

  Hi I want to bind a lists position to its own height in XAML. So its lower left corner always will be at 0.0 of the canvas. I'm using elementBinding to get the ActualHeight and a converter to invert the property. But the height sent to the converter is 0. • How to set classpath in manifest file , while creating JAR from eclipse?

  I am trying to creat JAR file through eclipse. I read some of the threads from stackoverflow as well as other forums. But nothing is helping.   Hi All, If, as here at work, we have test, staging and production environments, such as: http://test.my-happy-work.com http://staging.my-happy-work.com http://www.my-happy-work.com I am writing some javascript that will redirect the browser to a url such as: http://[environment].my-happy-work.com/my-happy-video I need to be able to determine the current environment that we are in. There is the possibility that I will currently be at a url such as: http://[environment].my-happy-work.com/my-happy-path/my-happy-resource I want to be able to grab the window.location but strip it of everything but: http://[environment].my-happy-work.com And then append to that string + "/" + "my-happy-video". I am not skilled with regex, but I suppose there would be a way to parse the window.location up to the ".com" Thoughts? Thanks!

• Selenium and HTTPS/SSL

  I'm running selenium-rc 1.0.3 on a Mac OS X & Windows 7 and both seem to be giving my the annoying accept cert error in firefox. In reading the docs they say I should be able to just use the *firefox run mode and rc should take care of it for me via a proxy or something, but this appears to not work. The only solution that I was able to find on the internet was to create a skeleton profile and pass the path into the rc startup, but thats not a real option. As that doesn't solve problems of testing in IE/Chrome/Safari. Does any know of any other solution that will work. • Applet in different directory than .html page

  Hello all, I'm trying to use a different directory to contain the applets and other directory with .html pages. Both are in the same level, that is, none is a sub-directory of the other. For that I was trying to use the parameter codebase, however, no matter what I put in codebase value (relative, absolute path) I always get a class not found error. I googled and found some people with the same problem, but no answers:( Does anybody knows how to accomplish this? I'm using JRE 1.6_20. Cheers, Jorge

• Installing Ruby Gems behind a Proxy

  It appears this topic has been covered a few times before, but those solutions have only gotten me so far. I now have my sources properly updated and I am able to query for gems without an error but I keep getting empty results for my searches. I installed rubysspi and copied over the spa.rb file as mentioned in the readme. The readme also suggested using this line which did not work for me based on my install path: ruby -rspa 'C:\Program Files\ruby\gem' list --remote sspi So I switched it to my install directory off the root: ruby -rspa 'C:\ruby\gem' list --remote sspi But that also didn't work so a search for the gem file located it in the bin directory so this command finally worked for me: ruby -rspa 'C:\ruby\bin\gem' list --remote sspi But I got empty results back: *** REMOTE GEMS *** SO I tried other gems and had the same results. Then I listed my gem sources and rubygems is listed as expected. Am I missing something else? c:\ruby>gem sources *** CURRENT SOURCES *** http://rubygems.org

  Having a look around at WebsiteSpark from Microsoft - the deal is good (especially if you were looking to go down this path already). But I'm one of those people that likes to 'wait for the next version' if I'm in no rush to sign up. One question that's been bugging me is whether or not the program includes upgrades to Visual Studio and/or they will change the starting pack at some point? Currently, If you sign up now, you get 3 copies of Visual Studio 2008. If you're umming and ahhing about the scheme, is it worth waiting and hoping that they adapt their program so that it comes with VS2010? Or maybe that they'll offer free updates to those already in the scheme? (This question may be a little subjective I guess and it probably applies to the BizSpark side of things as well. Have there been any hints set in other Microsoft programs that might indicate the outcome? ).

• alternatives to System.Diagnostics.Process.Start when command is too long

  I have some code which is generating a rather long command that is being sent to System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(). The call fails with a Win32Exception, message "The filename or extension is too long". The path to the program itself is not very long, but the parameters passed in are quite long. I am calling the version where an instance of ProcessStartInfo is passed as the parameter, and in this case its the ProcessStartInfo.Arguments .Field that is very long. (other parameters: CreateNoWindow = true, UseShellExecute = false, RedirectStandardError = true). It looks like the exception is coming from a call to win32 function CreateProcess. Does anyone have an idea of another way to start the process?

• Java Searchable JTree

  I'm trying to use the Searchable JTree from girishchavan on a FileSystemModel from Sun. It didn't work the first time because Sun's Node implementation is a File so I transform it into DefaultMutableTreeNode to be compatible with Searchable JTree. I also edited Searchable JTree to match the path of a file. But it still doesn't work. As far as I can see, it seems that the Searchable JTree only detects the root of the original JTree and cannot go further. Maybe the Nodes are not bind to each others even if they display correctly in a JTree. How can I make it compatible ?

  Hello! I have a problem with writing cookies in cakephp and even don't know how to debug it or where too look for a clue. I've inherited a project where cookie were only created using the Session component, of course i added 'Cookie' to $components array in app_controller and put this in beforeFilter: $this->Cookie->name = 'foo'; $this->Cookie->path = '/home/~nick'; $this->Cookie->domain = 'hostname'; $this->Cookie->secure = false; //i.e. only sent if using secure HTTPS $this->Cookie->key = 'some key'; and in some action i use: $this->Cookie->write('key', 'value'); I access page by http://hostname/home/~nick/foo and actually try to put even something so silly. I doesn't work. I would be really gratefully for any clue where to search problem. Thanks!

• Node.js vs PHP processing speed

  I've been looking into node.js recently and wanted to see a true comparison of processing speed for PHP vs Node.js. In most of the comparisons I had seen, Node trounced Apache/PHP set ups handily. However all of the tests were small 'hello worlds' that would not accurately reflect any webpage's markup. So I decided to create a basic HTML page with 10,000 hello world paragraph elements. In these tests Node with Cluster was beaten to a pulp by PHP on Nginx utilizing PHP-FPM. So I'm curious if I am misusing Node somehow or if Node is really just this bad at processing power. Note that my results were equivalent outputting "Hello world\n" with text/plain as the HTML, but I only included the HTML as it's closer to the use case I was investigating. I certainly think Node has a real niche that it could fit well, however with these test results (which I really hope I made a mistake with - as I like the idea of Node) lead me to believe that it is a horrible choice for even a modest processing load when compared to PHP (let alone JVM or various other fast solutions). As a final note, I also tried running an Apache Bench test against node with $ ab -n 20 -c 20 http://speedtest.dev/ and consistently received a total test time of greater than 0.900 seconds.

  I've been having the following problem with my GoDaddy's server. I am using JSPs with the JSTL Library. My /WEB-INF/lib folder contains the following libraries: jstl.jar standard.jar My JSP looks something like this: <%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" %> <p>Hello! <% out.print(System.getProperty("java.class.path")); %></p> But I keep getting the following exception: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: The absolute uri: http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core cannot be resolved in either web.xml or the jar files deployed with this application Any ideas as to why it is doing that?   Let's say that i want make a request a to a web page which is hosted in Europe (i live in USA).My packets only consist the IP address of the web page, first the domain name to ip address transformation is done, then my packets start their journey through to europe. i assume that MAC addresses never used in this situation? are they? First, my packets deal with many routers on way how these routers communicate with each other?, are router addresses added to my packet headers ? Second, is there a specific path router to router comminication or which conditions affect this route? Third to cross the Atlantic Ocean, are cables used or... ?

• UILabel background color not updating in UITableView

  I'm having a perplexing problem with a simple UILabel I put on a cell in a UITableView. I enter a separate view after tapping on a row, like many UITableViews. In there, I update the cell so that when I return to the rows, it should be updated, with this: MyTableViewCell* cell = (MyTableViewCell*) [mTableView cellForRowAtIndexPath: [NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:mActiveRow inSection:0]]; cell.myLabel.text = @"New Value"; // updated text cell.myLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor greenColor]; // updated color When I return, though, only the text is updated, not the color. When I scroll the row off the screen and return it refreshes properly via another path of code that has exactly the same code. Could there be some trigger to refresh specifically the background color of the UILabel? I'm not sure why the text will refresh but the color won't.

For some reason, I have a problem regarding Rating value that gets lost when I load from XML (using void LoadFromXML(string path) method. • Retrieving JSON from a web URL

  This may be a terribly uninformed question, brace yourself. A company I'm working with has given an 'API' that I can use to access orders, however, there are only two real commands, getorders and getorderdetails. These commands are put in the format of http://www.server.com/path/to/the/orderapi/getorders/UniqueKey/ If I go to that web address, I'm prompted for a username and password, and once authenticating, get presented with a page of JSON formatted order details, contained in the body of the html page. I would like a service to check this information and create orders in our crm based on it, is there an obvious way to access it without the browser/client interaction?

• UnauthorizedAccessException cannot resolve Directory.GetFiles failure

  Hi all, Directory.GetFiles method fails on the first encounter with a folder it has no access rights to. The method throws an UnauthorizedAccessException (which can be caught) but by the time this is done, the method has already failed/terminated. The code I am using is listed below: try { // looks in stated directory and returns the path of all files found getFiles = Directory.GetFiles(@directoryToSearch, filetype, SearchOption.AllDirectories); } catch (UnauthorizedAccessException) { } As far as I am aware, there is no way to check beforehand whether a certain folder has access rights defined. In my example, I'm searching on a disk across a network and when I come across a root access only folder, my program fails. I have searched for a few days now for any sort of resolve, but this problem doesn't seem to be very prevalent on here or Google. I look forward to any suggestions you may have, Regards

  FileMaker Pro 10 Server: Mac OS X Server 10.4.11 DAtA Server: Windows Server 2008 I am having problem cross platform issue when exporting XML from FileMaker Pro client on a Mac to DATA Server. My FileMaker Pro server is hosting on a Mac OS X and the I need user to export their data to a DATA server which is hosting on a Windows Server. I created a button(function/script) in the FileMaker form for user to export data once they finish with their job. FileMaker Pro client on the PC works perfectly but It does't work on the MAC. • MSI Install Folder Composed with Value from Radio Dialog

  I'm using .NET2, I have an installer project. In the User Interface, I've created a RadioButtons (3 Buttons) dialog box. I've placed it before the Installation Folder Dialog. I wish to incorporate the value selected in the RadioButtons dialog as part of the Installation Folder. To do this I've placed the name of the variable amongst the path where I wish to use it in the DefaultLocation: [ProgramFilesFolder][Manufacturer]\[ProductName]\[BUTTON3] The effect of this is that the default value for the variable, BUTTON3 in the example above, is resolved as part of the folder, not the selected value. Anybody know how to make this variable use delayed expansion in some way to get the selected value?

  I've got an issue with JavaScript intellisense in Visual Web Developer 2008, which I'm starting to believe is "just one of those things", but thought I'd ask here just to check. I have a file MyOtherFile.js with a function GetRandomNumber() defined like so: function GetRandomNumber() { /// <summary> /// Summary description for GetRandomNumber /// </summary> return Math.random(); } When I reference this from another file, screen.js (/// <reference path="MyOtherFile.js" />) I get the intellisense as expected with the summary text as above. If, however, I call the function GetRandomNumber from within its own file (MyOtherFile.js) then I don't get the sumamry description. Any thoughts? Thanks.

• Subsonic custom mapping of objects to tables

  Geeting, I'm using Compact Framework 3.5 and have tenatively settled on a custom build of Subsonic 3.0 to do data access. The trouble is that I am used to developing model-first but am also interested in keeping control of my DB schema. Therefore, neither ActiveRecord or Repository appears to meet my needs, and I want to use my existing POCO model and map it to my existing tables. I'm used to doing this via NHibernate and Entity Framework. After some investigation, it appears that I might be able to author a custom QueryMapping to give me the custom mapping I want. Before I start down this path, however, I'd like to see some kind of example of this being done. I can't seem to find any on the web, and wonder if anyone could give input on experience with Subsonic, model-first and a custom Table-per-Type and Table-per-Hierarchy mapping.
