  • double vision screen after installing ubuntu

    I'm not much of a techie but my friend who is a software engineer suggested I download ubuntu after my Windows computer was not connecting to certain Wi-Fi networks ( including the one at my house). He said it may be because of the drivers. I did download ubuntu but now the home screen is totally off center.Any ideas? Step by step instructions would be awesome since I'm not super great at this! Thank you!!

    Using software RAID only Is it possible to start with a 2TB disk full of data and safely add it to a RAID 1 array? Is it then possible to add a third disk and migrate the RAID 1 array into a RAID 5 array? OR Is it possible to start with a 2 disk degraded RAID 5 array and then add the third disk later to create a health RAID 5 array? Backstory: I wish to migrate from a 2 disk NAS (RAID 1) to a 3 disk NAS and only purchase one new disk in doing so

  • Make the Taskbar Buttons Switch to the Last Active Window in Windows 7

    The new Windows 7 taskbar’s Aero Peek feature, with the live thumbnails of every window, is awesome… but sometimes you just want to be able to click the taskbar button and have the last open window show up instead. Here’s a quick hack to make it work better. To better understand the problem, imagine having nine windows of the same type open on your screen, but you are primarily working in just one of the windows at a time. So every time you want to switch back, you have to click the taskbar button, and then choose the one you are using from the list, which can be pretty annoying… Now if you know your Windows 7 shortcuts, you’d know that you can simply hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on the taskbar button, and the last window will show up. In fact, you can keep holding down the Ctrl key and keep clicking, and Windows will cycle through the open windows. It’s a useful shortcut, but hardly something you want to do every single time. Instead, we’ll use a quick registry hack to make the normal click switch to the last open window—if you still want to see the thumbnail list, just hover your mouse over the button for half a second to see the full list. Manual Registry Hack for Last Active Window Open up regedit.exe through the start menu search or run box, and then head down to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced Once you’re there, create a new 32-bit DWORD value on the right hand side, give it the name LastActiveClick, and set the value to 1. Once you are done, it should look something like this: Once you are done, you’ll have to log off and back on, or you can kill Explorer.exe through Task Manager and re-open it. Download the Registry Hack Instead Since you probably don’t feel like registry hacking, we’ve provided you an easy downloadable version. You can simply download the file, extract it, and then double-click on the LastActiveClick.reg file. Once you are done, you’ll have to log off and back on, just like with the manual registry hack.   • Has anyone bought Market Samurai and had a good experience?

    It's hard when a piece of marketing software offers an affiliate program to ever find an objective review of it, so I thought I might try on Quora. It just boggles my mind that it can only cost $97 flat, when other SEO or keyword research tools like Wordtracker cost almost the same PER MONTH, and don't seem to offer much, if anything, more... Can anyone explain this, and would anyone recommend Market Samurai WITHOUT posting a link to it in their review? :)

  • ubuntu server 12.10 get input signal out of range on HP DL380 G4

    After installed ubuntu 12.10 server on HP DL380 G4, I can't boot into it. And the LCD got message "Input signal out of range, recommened settings is 1280x1024". I can't see the terminal and tried several LCDs and still can not work either. How can I should do now? I tried 12.04 but got fail message when installing (select and install software). Is that signal push me to change another os instead of my favorite ubuntu?

  • 12.04: google-chrome takes ~3 min to startup, just shows grey box before that

    This is what I see when I first start google chrome: http://i.imgur.com/suQUv.png I've tried the beta version, the stable version, uninstalling and reinstall through ubuntu software center, logging in and logging out of my sync account, purging and reinstalling through apt-get etc. If I have no profile on then it seems to load with a normal speed, however, even after purging all my local account data and reisntalling and syncing it still takes forever.

    The downsides of Mainframes is well trodden ground; expensive, legacy, dwindling community, etc. I'm not particularly interested in the downsides, but I am curious if there are any benefits to mainframe hardware/software over the current Intel/AMD & Linux/Windows environment. I've been told that MFs are particularly good (and better than current servers) at heavy I/O loads. Is this still true?

  • How can I make the function keys the default on a Logitech K760 Bluetooh keyboard?

    I had hoped that solaar would help, but it seems to only work for the Logitech wireless devices that use Logitech's proprietary scheme. I have Bluetooth keyboard (K760). I know it can be told to use the function keys (rather than the media keys) by default because I can do it on under OS X with software from Logitech. Just remapping the keys won't work as F1, F2, and F3 are special in that they switch which Bluetooth device I connect to and the keys are not sent to the OS.
