• Detect at runtime which country's App Store my iPhone app was downloaded from?

  I have a feature in my iPhone application that, for business reasons, should only be shown/available to customers in the US. If I want to release this app to App Stores outside the US, what's the best way to figure out which country I'm in without relying on user-defined settings such as language and locale? In my mind, the ideal solution is that there's some runtime property that can tell me which App Store country the app was downloaded from, and I can take action accordingly. Looking through the docs and searching the web, I'm not coming up with anything in this department. I don't expect the solution to be 100% foolproof as far as users not being in the country they say they're from, but as close as possible would be nice. I suppose one solution would be to make a separate build for a new product on the App Store and have two versions, one for the US and one for the others, but that doesn't seem ideal. I'm hoping it can be the same product on the App Store to prevent things like fragmentation of user reviews. Thanks in advance!

This is what I have so far: Want: type Point struct { x, y int } type myStruct struct { myVectorInsideStruct vector; } func main(){ myMyStruct := myStruct{vector.New(0)}; myPoint := Point{2,3}; myMyStruct.myVectorInsideStruct.Push(myPoint); } Have: type Point struct { x, y int } func main(){ myVector := vector.New(0); myPoint := Point{2,3}; myVector.Push(myPoint); } I can get the vector to work in my main function just fine, but I want to encapsulate it inside a struct for easier use.

• gVim and multiple programming languages

  My day job involves coding with Perl. At home I play around with Python and Erlang. For Perl I want to indent my code with two spaces. Whereas for Python the standard is 4. Also I have some key bindings to open function declarations which I would like to use with all programming languages. How can this be achieved in gVim? As in, is there a way to maintain a configuration file for each programming language or something of that sort?

• Using system time directly to get random numbers

  I had to return a random element from an array so I came up with this placeholder: return codes[(int) (System.currentTimeMillis() % codes.length - 1)]; Now than I think of it, I'm tempted to use it in real code. The Random() seeder uses system time as seed in most languages anyway, so why not use that time directly? As a bonus, I'm free from the worry of non-random lower bits of many RNGs. It this hack coming back to bite me? (The language is Java if that's relevant.)

• Does C++ require a destructor call for each placement new?

  I understand that placement new calls are usually matched with explicit calls to the destructor. My question is: if I have no need for a destructor (no code to put there, and no member variables that have destructors) can I safely skip the explicit destructor call? Here is my use case: I want to write C++ bindings for a C API. In the C API many objects are accessible only by pointer. Instead of creating a wrapper object that contains a single pointer (which is wasteful and semantically confusing). I want to use placement new to construct an object at the address of the C object. The C++ object will do nothing in its constructor or destructor, and its methods will do nothing but delegate to the C methods. The C++ object will contain no virtual methods. I have two parts to this question. Is there any reason why this idea will not work in practice on any production compiler? Does this technically violate the C++ language spec?

Pleas not another answer "use existing xml parser". Question is - are the regexes proper or not? This is specific situation - C language in embedded system and xml is not well-formed (cannot be fixed - does not depend on me). Xml have specified schema and no problem with namespaces etc. exists.

• drupal + i18n - how to send the currently selected locale to javascript?

  I've got a multi-lingual Drupal 6 installation. The multi-language is provided by the i18n module. I'm displaying some date pickers using jquery ui's datepicker. I'd like to localize those datepickers too (so when the page being shown is English, they show 'mon tue wed ...' but when the page is in Spanish they show 'lun mar mi ...'). My problem is: I don't know how to send the currently selected locale to javascript. The closest thing I could find was the javascript Drupal.locale object. However that object doesn't seem to have a 'locale name'.

To keep long story short, when asking this question I'm asking it as a developer who's coming from Flash world - great graphics/sounds/media support, fully cross-platform, ability to combine several SWFs within a "movie" (which also implies code reusability). A Flash developer have pretty much freedom. What are most important things that i must know in order to jump into silverlight development? I think this is what is causing the problem but it doesnt make sense I just want to return it as a string. It is only happening on this one field name, I can get every other field in the row but this one it gives me the error. I am getting an exception. The exception I am getting is No Dialect mapping for JDBC type: -1; nested exception is org.hibernate.HibernateException How do you query for a specific column on a row in hibernate?

  How do YOU debug a Scala program? I mean YOU as in the person posting the Answer :) Please answer only from personal experience, not from stuff you've heard or read on the Internet. You should not believe everything you read on the Internet, especially tales of complex open-source software configurations that actually work :-) The are many Java tools which claim to support Scala in some way or another, but I have so far struck out in trying to get any one of them to actually let me set a breakpoint in Scala code and step through it. These are big, major open-source IDEs I'm talking about here. The main problem in getting a debugger to work seems to be the "version hell" with fast-changing IDEs, Plug-Ins, JDKs, and the Scala language itself. Hence the second part of my question, which is really the most important part: What is the exact version number of the IDE, Plug-In, JDK, Scala, and even Operating System, that you are successfully using?   Since zf 1.10 Zend Framework ships with pre-translated validation messages. They are outside the library path. I needed help with the NSLog below, and have no idea what it's currently doing (the %@ part). Do you just substitute those in wherever you need concatenation, and then comma separate the values at the end? • Elegantly Handle Repetitive Property Code in C#

  The language shortcut public string Code { get; set; } saves a bit of typing when defining trivial properties in C#. However, I find myself writing highly repetitive, not-quite-as-trivial property code that still follows a clear pattern e.g. public string Code { get { return code; } set { if (code != value) { code = value; NotifyPropertyChanged("Code"); } } } I can certainly define a Visual Studio snippet to reduce typing. However, if I need to add something to my pattern, I have to go back and change quite a bit of existing code. Is there a more elegant approach? Is a snippet the best way to go?

  In this commit there is a change I cannot explain deferred.done.apply( deferred, arguments ).fail.apply( deferred, arguments ); becomes deferred.done( arguments ).fail( arguments ); AFAIK, when you invoke a function as a member of some object like obj.func(), inside the function this is bound to obj, so there would be no use invoking a function through apply() just to bound this to obj. Instead, according to the comments, this was required because of some preceding $.Callbacks.add implementation. My doubt is not about jQuery, but about the Javascript language itself: when you invoke a function like obj.func(), how can it be that inside func() the this keyword is not bound to obj?

• Preloading images in HTML, is there a more modern way?

  I have an image loaded by JS on a mouse event. It's a fairly big image so I want to make sure it gets pre-loaded. I reemmber some old techniques from years ago and found this example: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE = JAVASCRIPT> if (document.images) { img1 = new Image(); img2 = new Image(); img1.src = "imageName1.gif"; img2.src = "imageName2.gif" } </SCRIPT> I wondered if this is still good/relevant, or maybe browsers automatically detect unused images and preload them anyway? Note my page has to support IE6, so I might still need older techniques anyway, but I'm still interested if more modern browsers have a better way?

• Is it legal for a C++ reference to be NULL?

But, as show above, NULL is a possible value. So where is the error? In the language spec? (Unlikely.) Is the compiler in error for allowing that? Is that coding guide in error (or a little ambiguous)? Or am I just wandering into the minefield known as undefined behavior?

• Learning to work with audio in C++

  My degree was in audio engineering, but I'm fairly new to programming. I'd like to learn how to work with audio in a programming environment, partly so I can learn C++ better through interesting projects. First off, is C++ the right language for this? Is there any reason I shouldn't be using it? I've heard of Soundfile and some other libraries - what would you recommend? Finally, does anyone know of any good tutorials in this subject? I've learnt the basics of DSP - I just want to program it! EDIT: I use Windows. I'd like to play about with real-time stuff, a bit like Max/MSP but with more control.
