  • Can someone please clarify my understanding of a mock's Verify concept?

    Hi folks, I'm playing around with some unit tests and mocking. I'm trying to verify that some code, in my method, has been called. I don't think I understand the Verify part of mocking right, because I can only ever Verify main method .. which is silly because that is what I Act upon anyways. I'm trying to test that my logic is working - so I thought I use Verify to see that certain steps in the method have been reached and enacted upon. Lets use this example to highlight what I am doing wrong. public interface IAuthenticationService { bool Authenticate(string username, string password); SignOut(); } public class FormsAuthenticationService : IAuthenticationService { public bool Authenticate(string username, string password) { var user = _userService.FindSingle(x => x.UserName == username); if (user == null) return false; // Hash their password. var hashedPassword = EncodePassword(password, user.PasswordSalt); if (!hashedPassword.Equals(password, StringComparison.InvariantCulture)) return false; FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(userName, true); return true; } } So now, I wish to verify that EncodePassword was called. FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(..) was called. Now, I don't care about the implimentations of both of those. And more importantly, I do not want to test those methods. That has to be handled elsewhere. What I though I should do is Verify that those methods were called and .. if possible ... an expected result was returned. Is this the correct understanding of what 'Verify' means with mocking? If so, can someone show me how I can do this. Preferable with moq but i'm happy with anything. Cheers :)

    Hello! I have a localized application, and I am wondering if it is possible to have the DisplayName for a certain model property set from a Resource. I'd like to do something like this: public class MyModel { [Required] [DisplayName(Resources.Resources.labelForName)] public string name{ get; set; } } But I can't to it, as the compiler says: "An attribute argument must be a constant expression, typeof expression or array creation expression of an attribute parameter type" :( Are there any workarounds?   • Handle Enter Key on Website (ASP and VB)

    So I have a website with multiple asp controls. When I press enter inside by login form, the search function runs because it's the first thing found on the page. How would I handle the enter button so that when the active textbox is for the login form, the loginbutton code actually runs rather than the searchbutton. One last problem is that the login controls are inside a loginview so the hierarchy shows that the asp:textbox and asp:button for logging in are inside 3 tags like so: <loginview> <login> <logintemplate> //controls are here. </logintemplate> </login> Just a note that all controls are asp and that all code is prefered in VB.     As im reading through 3 books about GC , ive notice some strange fact : C# via CLR CriticalFinalizerObject : the CLR treats this class and classes derived from it in a very special manner what ??? "not find enough memory to COMPILE a method? " IMHO - the code should be already compiled... no ? when Im writing c# code - the whole code is compiled to IL before its running... no? but according to the text - at RUNTIME - he MAY find insufficient memory for compile... Help ?

    Hello, i have a GridView bound to a DataView. Some columns in the DataView's table are foreignkeys to related tables(f.e. Customer). I want to enable sorting for these columns too, but all i can do is sorting the foreignkey(fiCustomer) and not the CustomerName.   • odd nullreference error at foreach when rendering view

    This error is so weird I Just can't really figure out what is really wrong! This is what happens: Where and what exactly IS null!? I create the users from a fake repository with moq. I also wrote unit tests, which pass, to ensure the right amount of mocked users are returned. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction here? Top of the stack trace is : at lambda_method(Closure , User ) at System.Linq.Enumerable.WhereSelectArrayIterator`2.MoveNext() at ASP.Index_cshtml.Execute() Is it something to do with linq here? Tell me If I should include the full stack trace.

When I want to achieve something like this, I just create an invisible form and run it, but would there be a more "elegant" way of doing this, I'd like to know it. How do you generally do this? This application can't be a Windows Service, as having the NotifyIcon and its Context Menus is important (each one of them will run a different command). Thanks

On show button of the first grid it shows all the employees. then on AdvWebGrid.ClickLink or any selected user on the first grid , i have to display the manager names and their comments on the second grid. I keep current user id and user type in session and authenticate user from these session variables (say Session["UserId"],Session["UserName"] and Session["UserType"]) I do authentications. Please guide me how it is insecure ? I heard such security can be broken and applications can be hacked very easily, like it is possible to get session id and directly connect to that session id etc. Please guide me on this thanks

It looks like label and input have to be next to each other. Does any ony have a solution how to solve this problem?

  • Trying to get distinct values from two List<int> objects

    I have 2 List objects: List<int> lst1 = new List<int>(); List<int> lst2 = new List<int>(); Let's say they have values: lst1.Add(1); lst1.Add(2); lst1.Add(3); lst1.Add(4); lst2.Add(1); lst2.Add(4); I need to get an object containing the "distinct" list of both of these; so in this case the return would be List {2, 3}. Is there an easy way to do this? Or do I need to iterate through each value of the lists and compare? I am open to using ObjectQuery, LINQ, etc as these lists are coming from a database, and could potentially be several hundred to several thousand entries long. Thanks!

  • How to get at specific HTML elements of a document using C# and Hide them/Show them etc.

    Basically I want to load a HTML document and using controls such as multiple check boxes which will be programmed to hide, delete or show HTML elements with certain ID's. So I am thinking I would have to set an inline CSS property for visibility to: false on the ones I want to hide or delete them altogether when necessary. I need this so I don't have to edit my Ebay HTML templates in dreamweaver all the time, where I usually have to scroll around messy code and manually delete or add tags and their respective content. Whereas I just want to create one master template in dreamweaver which has all the variations that my products have, since they are all of the same genre with slight changes here and there and I just need to enable and disable the visibility of these variants as required and copy + paste the final html. I haven's used Windows Forms before, but tried doing this in WebForms which I do know a bit. I am able to get the result that I want by wrapping any HTML elements in a <asp:PlaceHolder></asp:PlaceHolder> and just setting that place holders visibility to false after the associated checkbox is checked and a postback occurs, finally I add a checkbox/button control that removes all the checkboxes, including itself etc for final html. But this method seems just like too much pain in the ass as I have to add the placeholder tags around everything that I need control over as ordinary html elements do not run at server, also webforms injects a bunch of Javascript and ViewState data so I don't have clean HTML which I can just copy after viewing the page source. Any tips/code that you can suggest to achieve the desired effect with the least changes required to existing HTML documents? Ideally I would want to load the HTML document in, have a live design preview of it and underneath have a bunch of well labelled checkboxes programmed to hide, delete or show elements with certain ID's.     I have a table with a ModifiedUserID field that is a foreign key to a User table. In entity framework, I'm loading the first table, but not the users table. I have the user ID of the current user, and would like to set the ModifiedUserID to that value for all entities that have been modified prior to saving. Before calling SaveChanges(), I use the ObjectStateManager to get all modified entities. Since I do not have the user object, but I do have the user ID, I set the EntityReference.EntityKey property as follows: entity.UserReference.EntityKey = New EntityKey("MyContainer.User", "UserID", DatabaseUserID) This works fine, but when I execute SaveChanges(), I receive the following error: A relationship is being added or deleted from an AssociationSet 'FK_Table1_User'. With cardinality constraints, a corresponding 'Table1' must also be added or deleted. Now, I see that setting the EntityReference.EntityKey creates a new AssociationSet entry, but how to I prevent this error?

    I want to write a custom ValidationAttribute that checks if the given value is unique or not. The problem is that in the edit screen, it is not guaranteed that the user actually changed the value, resulting in a false error. Is there a way to check in my attribute whether the value actually changed? Or can I trigger the attribute only when the value has changed? I'm getting the feeling this requirement maybe just doesn't belong in an attribute?
