• Problem deploying portlets on JBoss Portal 2.7.2: Not a canonical value

  I just downloaded the JBoss Portal Server 2.7.2 (JBoss Portal + JBoss AS 4.2.3 bundle to be precise) and tried deploying portlets just as the SimpleHelloWorld provided in the samples. The portlet gets deployed fine but when I put it on a page I get the following exception. I tried adding other Portlets as well (such as the booking MVC portelt supplied with Spring WebFlow dist) but the same problem happens. The problem happens when the new instances are created by me, example when i create a new instance of CMS Portlet, I get the same error. If I use an existing instance it works. If I deploy a portlet that creates an instance using the "portle-instances.xml" then it works fine, but creating additional instances using the Admin and deploying them on page fails due to the following error. What am I doing wrong? The question object contains id ,question,answertype and reference to a form object using form_id. Now I want to alter the values of Question object stored in the database by altering the value stored in the list of Question objects at the specified index position. If I alter the value in the list the value in the database is not getting altered by update query . Could you please advise. • Unable to set nginx to serve my staging website

  I'm having some troubles setting up nginx to serve my staging website. What I did is change the server_name but for some reasons it just doesn't work. The url scheme is "domain.foo" is production, "staging.domain.foo" is staging, "foobar.domain.foo" is a web service, "foobar.staging.domain.foo" is the staging version of the same webserver, ".domain.foo" is routed to serve some s3 static HTML, ".staging.domain.foo" is routed to serve some s3 static HTML in another bucket. All production urls work and are correctly configured, all staging urls doesn't work. Here is my conf file. • Nginx no static files after update

  First, i must say that i am not expert in server administration, my site was setup by hosting admins (that i cannot contact anymore). Few days ago, i updated Nginx to latest version (admin told me that it is safe to do). But after that, my site serves only html content, no CSS, images, JS. If i try to open some image i get message "Wellcome to Nginx" (same thin if i try to open static.mysitedomain.com). More details: Site has static. subdomain, but static files are in same directory as they used to be before setting up static files. I was googling for some solutions, i tried to change something in /etc/nginx/, but no luck. I feel that this is some minor configuration problem, any ideas? • PhpMyAdmin Hangs On MySQL Error

  I'm currently running PhpMyAdmin 4.0.10 (the latest version supporting PHP 4.2.X) on my Amazon EC2 connecting to a MySQL database on RDS. Everything works perfectly fine except actions that return a mysql error message. Whether I perform "any" kind of action that will return a mysql error, Phpmyadmin will hang with the yellow "Loading" box forever without displaying anything. For example, if I perform the following command in MySQL CLI : select * from 123; It instantly returns the following error : ERROR 1064 (42000): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '123' at line 1 which is completely normal because table 123 doesn't exist. However, if I execute the exact same command in the "SQL" box in Phpmyadmin, after I click "Go" it'll display "Loading" and stops there forever. Has anyone ever encountered this kind of issue with Phpmyadmin? Is this a bug or I have something wrong with my config.inc.php? Any help would be much appreciated. • Linux/Apache performance very slow even on local network

  I have an Ubuntu server machine running Apache and MYSQL. System and version info is as follows: Linux kernel 3.0.0.-12 Apache/2.2.20 MySQL Ver 14.14.Distrib 5.1.58 I am running a few websites on this server, some HTML only, some PHP/MySQL. THe [problem is that response time is very slow, both on static as well as the dynamic sites. Sometimes it takes more than 10 seconds before a response is given, this makes the sites very slow and almost unusable. The problem occurs even when requesting from the local network. I have added the involved subdomains to my /etc/hosts file, and abolve all the problem is not solved by using IP numbers instead of URL's. So there is no DNS lookup issue. I have modified the log format by showing the response times and sometimes a files takes 12 seconds to be served, see the jquery~.js file in the example screenshot. I have no explanation for this extremely long response time, but is is not even the only issue here, some other files takes a long time to be served too, but do not show a long response time in the log file. So probably different tissues are involved here. I cannot find a solution until now, any suggestions??? And not only with Apache, also connecting using SSH takes a tremendous time, sometimes it takes up to 15 seconds before the keyphrase is asked for. Also scp works very slowly. The behavious is really unpredoctable and makes the server very hard to use. Any ideas...?

Works great in FF, IE 8, Chrome, and Windows Safari. In IE6 and Opera 10 the drop menus appear too high. • Rails HABTM accepts_nested_attributes_for mapping table

  Currently I have a habtm relationship between a datastream (stream), and a chart. I want to be able to use the 'typical' jquery "add new stream" method to add a new entry into a mapping table that holds the chart_id, and stream_id.. But I think that most examples out there are made to handle a one to many relationship.. The functionality provided here by Ryan Bates is what I'm looking for, But I dont want to use checkboxes, I want to use a select (drop down) to add new items to the mapping table. • terminating java applet thread on page unload

  Hello, I have got a problem here in terminating the threads. The problem is that I am using applet thread to access JS DOM and manipulate innerHTML of a span to right the Thread Name as the innerHTML. It works fine until I keep refreshing the page but if I dont give it a sleep of like 200ms and go to another page which dont have any applet on it, it will give me an error in firebug console: document.getElementById("userName") is null What I am suspecting is, although I send an interrupt on stop and I have also tried the same by setting a flag variable of running in run while loop, the thread executes much faster than the time JVM takes to unload it and I get my page changed in browser but applet is still trying to find an element with id userName. Is that true? Is there any work around of it? Is there any way to know how many threads are running at the moment? Is there any kill all command to send on destroy()? I have searched a lot, seen all the API of java threads and applets, couldn't get this to work. • Javascript Noob Question. Need Help With Simple Script

  Hi everyone, I am new to JavaScript (only a couple of days of reading a book) and I am stuck on this code snippet. I have looked at it over and over again but cannot seem to figure out why it is not working. I am sure it is something really simple that I have just looked over but I really just need a fresh pair of eyes to look at this. The code is supposed to update a placeholder image on a page without the page having to reload. But when I am clicking on the link of an image, it is taking me to the link where the image is located instead of replacing the placeholder image. • Comments show up in database, but only show up on my index page after a refresh.

  Hi, I have AJAX, PHP, jquery, and mySQL in this very simple website I'm trying to make. All there is is a text area that sends data to the database and uses ajax\jquery to display that data onto the index page. For some reason though, I press submit and the data goes to the database, but I have to refresh the page myself to see that data on the page. I'm assuming that the problem has to do with my AJAX JQuery or even some mistake in the index. Also, when I type the text into the text area and press submit, the text remains in the textarea until I refresh the page. Haha, sorry if this is such a noob question.. I'm trying to learn. • Multiple "pages" in GWT with human friendly URLs

  Hi. I'm playing with a GWT/GAE project which will have three different "pages", although it is not really pages in a GWT sense. The top views (one for each page) will have completely different layouts, but some of the widgets will be shared. One of the pages is the main page which is loaded by the default url (http://www.site.com), but the other two needs additional URL information to differentiate the page type. They also need a name parameter, (like http://www.site.com/project/project-name. There are at least two solutions to this that I'm aware of. Use GWT history mechanism and let page type and parameters (such as project name) be part of the history token. Use servlets with url-mapping patterns (like /project/*) The first choice might seem obvious at first, but it has several drawbacks. First, a user should be able to easily remember and type URL directly to a project. It is hard to produce a human friendly URL with history tokens. Second, I'm using gwt-presenter and this approach would mean that we need to support subplaces in one token, which I'd rather avoid. Third, a user will typically stay at one page, so it makes more sense that the page information is part of the "static" URL. Using servlets solves all these problems, but also creates other ones. So my first questions is, what is the best solution here? If I would go for the servlet solution, new questions pop up. It might make sense to split the GWT app into three separate modules, each with an entry point. Each servlet that is mapped to a certain page would then simply forward the request to the GWT module that handles that page. Since a user typically stays at one page, the browser only needs to load the js for that page. Based on what I've read, this solution is not really recommended. I could also stick with one module, but then GWT needs to find out which page it should display. It could either query the server or parse the URL itself. If I stick with one GWT module, I need to keep the page information stored on server side. Naturally I thought about sessions, but I'm not sure if its a good idea to mix page information with user data. A session usually lives between user login and logout, but in this case it would need different behavior. Would it be bad practise to handle this via sessions? The one GWT module + servlet solution also leads to another problem. If a user goes from a project page to the main page, how will GWT know that this has happened? The app will not be reloaded, so it will be treated as a simple state change. It seems rather ineffecient to have to check page info for every state change. Anyone care to guide me out of the foggy darkness that surrounds me? :-)

• Resons why I'm using php rather then asp.net [closed]

  I have basic idea of how asp .Net works, but finds all framework hard to use if you are a newbie. I found compiling, web applications vs websites and all that stuff you should know to program in asp .net a bit tedious and so personally I go with php to create small, to medium applications for my clients. There are couple of reasons for it: php is easy scripting language, top to bottom and you done. You still can create objects, classes and if you have idea of MVC its fairly easy to create basic structure yourself so you can keep you presentation layer "relatively" clean. Although I find myself still mixing basic logic in my view's, I am trying to stick to booleans, and for each loops. ASP .net keeps it cleaner as far as I know and I agree that this is great. Heaps of free stuff for php and lots of help everywhere Although choice of IDE's for php is very limited, I still don't have to be stuck with VisualStudio. Lets be honest.. you can program in whatever you like but does anyone uses anything else other than VS? For basic applications I create, Visual Studio doesn't come even close to notepad :) / phpEdit (or similar) combination. It lacks of many features I constantly use, although armies of developers are using it and it must be for good reason. Personally not a big fan of VS though. Being on the market for that long should make editing much easier. I know .Net comes with awesome set of controls, validators etc. which is truly awesome. For me the problem starts if I want my validator to behave slightly different way and lets say fade in/out error messages. I know its possible to extend it behavior, plug into lifecycle and output different JS to the client and so on. I just never see it happen in places I work, and honestly, I don't even think most of .net developers I worked with during last couple of years would know how to do that. In php I have to grab some plugin for jQuery and use it for validation, which is fairly easy task once you had done it before. Again I'm sure its easy for .net gurus, but for newbie like me its almost impossible. I found that many asp .net programmers are very limited in what they are able to do and basically whack together .net applications using same lame set of controls, not even bothering in looking into how it works and what if? Now I don't want to anger anyone :) I know there is huge number of excellent .Net developers who know their stuff and are able to extend controls and do all that magic in no time. I found it a bit annoying though that many of them stick to what is provided without even trying to make it better. Nothing against .net here, just a thought really :) I remember when asp.net came out the idea was that front-end people will not be able to screw anything up and do their fron-end stuff without worrying what happens behind. Now its never that easy and I always tend to get server side people to fix this and that during development. Things like ID's assigned to controls can very easily make your application break and if someone is pure HTML guy using VS its easy to break something. Thats my thoughs on php and .net and reasons why for my work I go with php. I know that once learned asp .net is awesome technology and summing all up php doesn't even come close to it. For someone like me however, individually developing small basic applications for clients, php seems to work much better. Please let me know your thoughts on the above :)

  I'm trying to server HTML Javascript and CSS content from an iPhone application's local resources, and I'm having trouble handling onOrientationChange events and including external Javascript. I seem to be able to link in CSS properly but not javascript. I'm trying to use the following example of handling onOrientationChange (How to build an iPhone website) but I'm serving the webpage from my app's NSBundle mainBundle. • Jquery dependent dropdown doesn't work in IE

  I have a 3 dropdowns: countries, states, and cities. States and cities are dependent of the previous form and loaded via AJAX. In Firefox and Chrome everything is ok, but in IE (8 in my case) when I select a state, the cities dropdown isn't loaded. It is like IE don't detect the change. It is not a load problem, because I have tested with a simple alert box. Any help will be really appreciated. • jquery $.getJSON only works once in internet explorer Help Please!!!

  I have a php function which inserts a searchbar into each page on a website. The site checks to see if the user has javascript enabled and if they do it inserts some jquery ajax stuff to link select boxes (instead of using it's fallback onchange="form.submit()"). $.getJSON works perfectly for me in other browsers except in IE, if I do a full page refresh (ctrl+F5) in IE my ajax works flawlessly until I navigate to a new page (or the same page with $PHP_SELF) either by submiting the form or clicking a link the jquery onchange function fires but then jquery throws an error: Webpage error details Message: Object doesn't support this property or method Line: 123 Char: 183 Code: 0 URI: http://~#UNABLE~TO~DISCLOSE#~/jquery-1.4.2.min.js It seems like jquery function $.getJSON() is gone??? • A little bit of Ajax goes a long way

  ..except when you're having problems. My problem is this: I have a hierarchical list of categories stored in a database which I wish to output in a dropdown list. The hierarchy comes into place when the subcategories are to be displayed, which are dependent on a parent id (which equals out to the first seven or so main categories listed). My thoughts are relatively simple: when the user clicks the dynamically allocated list of main categories, they are clicking on an option tag. For each option tag, an id (i.e., the parent) is listed in the value attribute, as well as an argument which is sent to a Javascript function which then uses AJAX to get the data via PHP and sends it to my 'javascript.php' file. The file then does magic, and populates the subcategory list, which is dependent on the main category selected. I believe I have the idea down, it's just that I'm implementing the solution improperly, for some reason. I also receive an "undefined index" error (which refers to the key I set for the data type). I'm thinking that for some reason, the data is being sent to my form.php file, or my default.php file which includes both the form.php and javascript.php files via a function. Is there something specific that I'm missing here? Just looking up basic AJAX syntax (via jQuery) hasn't helped out, unfortunately.
