• Visual Programming paradigms

  As the number of "visual" OS's such as Android, iOS and the promised Windows 8 are becoming more popular, it does not seem to me that we programmers have new ways to code using these new technologies, due to a possible lack in new visual programming languages paradigms. I've seen several discussions about incompatibilities between the current coding development environment, and the new OS approaches from Windows 8, Android and other tablets OS's. I mean, today if we have a new tablet, it's almost a requirement for coding, to have, for instance, an external keyboard (due it seems to me it's very difficult to program using the touch screen), exactly because the coding assistance is not conceived to "write" thousands of lines of code. So, how advanced should be the "new" visual programming languages paradigms? Which characteristics these new paradigms would be required?

I could provide many more direct links, but you do not need them: just visit the home page of this technology to download whitepapers, watch videos on how this technology integrates with C# and with VB, (through the new async and await language keywords) as well as videos on how the technology works under the covers (based largely on the Task Parallel Library).   The Smart Client Software Factory (SCSF) version for Visual Studio 2010 is supposed to be released sometime this week.  The updated (final?) source code is available on the patterns & practices site already, but I'm guessing it could be updated again due to changes found during the final testing. You'll need the Visual Studio 2010 SDK as well as the new versions of the Guidance Automation Extensions (GAX) and the Guidance Automation Toolkit (GAT) for the SCSF. • Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 1.2 (June 2010)

  I have good news! Microsoft has released the June 2010 Windows Azure Tools + SDK. These new tools extend Visual Studio (both VS 2010 & VS 2008) for Windows Azure development. With these tools you can create, configure, debug, build, run, and deploy scalable web apps on Windows Azure. At first glance what I see as some of the most interesting points of interest are the fact that Visual Studio 2010 RTM is fully supported as well as .NET 4 support. You can choose to build your apps with the .NET 3.5 or .NET 4 frameworks. Another area of interest that I’ll be digging into is the cloud storage explorer. It provides a read-only view of your Windows Azure tables and blob containers from within Visual Studio via the Server Explorer. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about the Windows Azure Tools as I dig deeper… Have a day. :-|

  The implicit line continuation feature in Visual Basic 2010 provided an opportunity to improve the code editing experience in XML literals embedded expressions. In Visual Studio 2008, pressing Enter inside an embedded expression would result in the cursor being positioned to the left of the end embedded expression tag. In Visual Studio 2010, pressing Enter inserts a newline for the cursor, and the end embedded expression tag moves to the line below.   Always a bummer when you update a product and something stops working.  I am hoping it is an installation issue, but each time I go to run “Publish..” in my Web Application, the publish works, but Visual Studio 2012 crashes.  I just noticed this beginning after I ran the Visual Studio 2012 RC July Updates.
