  • Will I have internet connection issues next day, if I unplug router at night?

    I did this regularly a few years ago and used to feel like I was 'being punished' by the Interent svc provider for disabling access to my computer, because trying to re-connect the next day became a constant pain. I have the same linksys router, a comcast modem, and hi-speed broadband through their LAN. Question: who or what is at fault for lousy internet connections, slow connections, or no connections: (everybody's tech dept. blames everybody else) The router? 10 year olds, maybe obsolete? The modem? came with the service plan - can connect three devices on a sharedconnection. The ISP: I read they not only even control and completely regulate bandwidth usage, but they also ration it!! (true?) So can I safely 'pull the plug' each night for security or not? thnx

    Hi guys, I received alot of event logged in the event viewer with this message. I notice is always the same user id which encounters this error. The user id is use by an application to access the database. However, this account does not exits on this server. How do I trace the services/program use by this user id which causes these error messages?   • Error 1069 the service did not start due to a logon failure

    Our CruiseControl.NET service on Win2003 Server (VMWare Virtual) was recently changed from a service account to a user account to allow for a new part of our build process to work. The new user has "Log on as a service" rights, verified by checking Local Security Settings - Local Policies - User Rights Assignment, and the user password is set to never expire. The problem I'm facing is every time the service is restarted, I get the 1069 error as described in this questions subject. I have to go into the properties of the service (log on tab) and re-enter the password, even though it hasn't changed, and the user already has the appropriate rights. Once I enter the password apply the changes, a prompt appears telling me that the user has been granted log on as a service rights. The service will then start will no problems. Not a show stopper, but a pain none-the-less. Why isn't the password persisting with the service?

  • Possible to find what IP address caused a 403.6 error?

    I have a website setup in IIS that is rejecting all IP addresses except for a specific set. I thought I had added my machines IP address to this list, but evertime I try to access I get the error: HTTP Error 403.6 - Forbidden: IP address of the client has been rejected. Internet Information Services (IIS) I would like to figure out what IP address it think I am coming form when it rejects me. I tried looking at the IIS logs and in the Security Event Logs but I'm not seeing anything. Suggestions on where to look?

  • Deleted printers keeps coming back - and multiply

    My users are on 2012 R2 RDS Session Host servers. I've used "Deploy Printers" (from Print Manager) to deploy 4 printers. The last week, I've had a lot of problems where users can't print. If I deleted the printer and added it again, they could print just fine. Now I've removed all printer deploying from GPO - and I have no printers in any login scripts. I did a gpupdate /force, but all the 4 printers are now listed 3 times... If I delete the printers and log off and back on, all the printers are popping up again. Sigh! This is driving me nuts. This script doesn't show any of the "SVFREJA" printers...     OS: Vista and Windows7 I have Microsoft Office Document Imaging installed. .tif and .tiff files association is set to " Microsoft Office Document Imaging" When I open a TIFF file, it opens in " Microsoft Office Document Imaging". Good so far. However, when I right-click on the TIFF file and invoke print, I see a "Print Pictures" dialog, ("How do you want to print your pictures?") I have some applications installed on my machine that print incoming TIFF files on the printer. They work fine on XP. However, on Vista and Windows7, I get this "Print pictures" prompt requiring an user intervention (i.e, click on Print button). How do I get rid of this "Print Pictures" prompt?

  • How do I prevent ConEmu auto-attaching to every single cmd.exe?

    I don't want ConEmu to attach to every cmd I open, but this is how it works now. I remember that I told ConEmu to do this, but I don't want it anymore. Maybe I just overlooked something, but I've read all the settings pages and I couldn't find an option to disable it. Am I missing something? How do I prevent ConEmu from attaching every single cmd.exe I open? My ConEmu version is 121109 x86, on winXPproSp3x86.

Vista takes four minutes. Is there some software that can determine which services I don't need? On 7, there's no propietary HP stuff at all, yet it seems to run fine. Because all these service, there's a LOT of them and some just sit there doing nothing, monitoring for updates I don't really need or want or need to know about the second they're available. my laptop is the only computer i use at home, there's no home network, aside from the modem-router, which is cabled, not wifi. Take for instance Parental controls, and stuff for people with bad eyesight, Tablet PC. I really never use any of that stuff. Hope this question is specific enough.   • Menu command stuck on screen

    For some reason, periodically when I select a menu command, the command label gets "stuck" on the screen and won't go away. I can close all open applications, including whichever one I was using when it got stuck, but it still won't go away. In the screenshot below, I opened an new instance of IE just to show how the label stays on top. The label was not created by this instance of IE. Edit with the source: The label that gets stuck is the first menu command I select in IE. If a label is already stuck, a new one does not get stuck (regardless of which instance(s) of IE are involved). Based on this knowledge, I now just open IE on my secondary monitor, carefully open the context menu so the Properties command is in the bottom corner, and click it. This is not a solution... The label never moves and is transparent to mouse input (if I click it, it's as if I clicked the item behind it). The label does not go away if I close all running applications. I haven't tried stopping services or closing system tray items like Live Mesh. The label does go away if I change the screen resolution and then change it back. Any ideas how I can stop this from happening? It's happened a half dozen times since yesterday and it's becoming quite disrupting to my work. Obviously I added the circle in MS Paint. That part isn't stuck. ;)

  • Workstation 7 build 203739 - Capture Movie Mouse Pointer Not Visible

    Hi, I have noticed that whenever I create a Capture Movie, the movie is fine but the mouse pointer is not visible at all. The clicks are on buttons file menus are executed but is hard for a viewer of the capturre movie session to follow the recording smoothly. This was not a problem in previous versions of WorkStation. Is this a bug or is there a setting I can set to see the mouse pointer? Note: VM Tools are installed, Host is Vista Ultimate Edtion SP1, x64 and the guest is a Win XP SP2.   • Files being rolled back on server 2008 R2

    I've got a weird situation occurring on my dev server. Randomly, and for no reason that I can see, files are being rolled back to an earlier version! This has happened twice now - the first time I assumed I'd done something wrong somewhere, restored the file I was after from a backup and gave it no further thought. The second time, just now, it happened to a folder containing just a few files that I was working on - suddenly all the changes I'd made over the last day or two were gone! (I know, commit more often, ay?). Thankfully I have a daily backup and so have recovered my files, but I'm very concerned about this and need to understand how and why it's happened. The only change made between file states is that I enabled sharing on a completely unrelated folder. I'm developing an app on Railo, which is running on Tomcat. The code was all fine and in c:\websites\appname. I shared the 'Railo' folder, which is c:\railo in order to allow my IDE access to the logs generated by the app (contained in c:\railo\tomcat\logs) and when I reloaded the app, the code was reverted to a few days ago! I'm at a complete loss here. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

  • Media Center is sending duplicate #'s when changing channels

    I recently switched from cable to DirecTV (satellite). I went through the "Set up TV signal" in Media Center, and I went through the manual setup of the remote as it didn't recognize the DirecTV remote. All seemed okay, except sometimes (often - about 1/2 the time) when I select a channel in Media Center's guide it sends 5527 instead of 527 or 5446 instead of 546 - so it doesn't change the channel correctly. (I see the numbers show up on the TV screen before the channel changes.) I tried re-learning the remote, but the problem is still there. (Media Center is changing channels through the IR Blaster attached to the front of the DirecTV box.)

Most of the time it works OK and the restart count is anything up to 4. In this case the Trunk log confirms that the Restart Count is 5 and so is considered to be exceeded. Presumably, this triggers the termination of the other services and Trunk is actually doing its job.So, coould this just be a timing issue and we need to increase the tolerance level (i.e restart count) or do we need to address the 0xa08990002 error in vmd?

    How do I granularly increase the various fast-forward/rewind speed/rate for each of the speed settings for skipping through commercials? The current defaults go from barely faster than playback, too fast for unexpectedly short commercials, to omfg its so fast I can't see what is happening. Do people suffer with these defaults, or is there some better setting in the registry, or elsewhere?

  • Why would the servers network type change from Private to Public?

    Just found a fault with a server, other users have had problems connecting to it. The setting on the network card had changed from Private (domain) network to Public (the other option being Home). The switch to the network interface would have caused the firewall to block a lot of normal functions. I am guessing that since the event log showed no reason for the change that it might be due to a complete shutdown we had recently where someone powered up the machines, however the domain controllers might not have been booted up first. Any confirmation that this might be the case?

  • Application windows have colossal fonts in Enlightenment 17, while system windows are untouched

    I'm trying to get used to using Enlightenment instead of KDE on my Slackware64 multilib computer, but I'm having a terrible time getting one problem fixed. My fonts are HUGE on application windows - from Firefox to Gimp to Xchat to anything else, all the fonts are 3x the size they should be. But at the same time, the system menu is the correct size. I'm at a loss - I want the applications to have the same DPI as the system menu. When I'm in KDE, they all look normal. I've included a screenshot to show what I'm talking about.

  • Users getting 'flooded' with not read notifications (NRNs) for old emails and meeting requests

    I'm being placed under quite a lot of pressure from senior management over a relatively trivial issue. Basically the vast majority of users are complaining that they receive not read notifications (NRNs) for old emails and meeting requests in large numbers multiple times a day. I know something strange is happening because some are delivered at silly times in the morning (i.e 3AM or 4AM). The problem I have is that these some of these NRNs are from meeting requests and messages that are 120 days old, so some users have deleted the original message so I don’t actually know if the NRN is from an email or meeting request.   • Where did my backup files go? Can they be recovered?

    I just purchased a Western Digital Essential SE 1TB external hard drive from Best Buy at their recommendation. I then exchanged it for a Toshiba Canvio (I think that was the name). I have a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q898. The Canvio locked up my computer and rewrote some kind of OS file, and erased all the restore points as well as the system image backup (according to Best Buy) just by plugging it in for the first time. Never even got to the install part or anything -- plugged it in and fried my computer. They spent about an hour and a half on my computer and got it back to a somewhat working condition and gave me access to my files. So now they say I have to back it up using my recovery disk and rewriting my OS. Enter the Essential. Brought it home last night, plugged it in and installed everything. Works perfect, no problems. Backed up everything on it. I unplugged and plugged it twice to make sure that everything was on it. Essential told me it had both the HDD and SSD backed up. So I reinstalled my OS. Plugged the Essential in and everything loads right up. Went to retrieve my files and the Western Digital has nothing on it. It shows all my music, pics, ETC. as still being on my computer and needing to be backed up, but since there are no files on my computer now. Where is this information coming from and where did my files go? It's about 810GB worth of files I've amassed over several years. Is there any way to recover data from this? I plan to contact Western Digital and Best Buy, just thought I would check here too. Any advice will be appreciated as a lot of these files are invaluable to me.
