So, not everyone using an iPhone 5 or Samsung Galaxy SIII then? hardly surprising given one of these devices could cost you a large chunk of your annual income in some countries! The story is a reminder of taking into account local market requirements and using a toolkit to develop solutions for them. The article tells us The BBC World Service apps will feature content from the following BBC websites: BBC Arabic, BBC Brasil (in Portuguese), BBC Chinese, BBC Hindi, BBC Indonesia, BBC Mundo (in Spanish), BBC Russian, BBC Turkce, BBC Ukrainian, BBC Urdu and BBC Vietnamese. • Add copyright notice to a website

  Not really a programming question, but I find it related. If not (or you find this question too subjective), please tell me, yell at me, swear at me, kick me in the nuts, or just vote to close :) I've read some questions and answers here on SO about adding copyright notices, but not the specific ones I am looking for. I want to add a copyright notice to a website I created. Something like (c) Me 2010. All rights reserved. I am aware that everything written by someone is automatically copyrighted (if I'm not mistaken and perhaps depending on country laws). I see some sites use the following format for this (c) Me 2009-2010. However for me that makes no sense to add an 'end-date' to the notice. I am aware I can code to update the notice every year, but I just find it strange. Or is it just me? Another question is: I also use copyrighted code from others (they are all mentioned in the credits incl. links to their licenses ofc) on my site. Would it still be OK to add the copyright notice to the site with only Me in it? So to sum it up I have 2 questions: What is THE RIGHT WAYTM of adding a copyright notice on a website (or code or whatever)? If there is one. Is it allowed to copyright code with other copyrighted code within it?

• Best way to update UI when dealing with data synchronization

  I'm working on a bug at work. The app is written in Objective-C for iOS based device, for the iPad. I'm the new guy there and I've been given a hard task. Sometimes, the UIButton text property does not show the correct state when syncing. Basically, when the app is syncing, my UI control would say "Syncing" and when its not syncing it'll display "Updated @ [specific date]". Right now there is a property on the app delegate called "SyncInProgress". When querying / syncing, occurring on background thread, it updates a counter. The property will return a bool checking expression 'counter 0'. There are three states I need to deal with. Sync has started. Sync is updating tables. Sync finished. These items need to occur in order. My coworker suggested to take a state based approach instead of just responding to events. I'm not sure about how to go about that. Would it be best to have the UI receive a notification to determine what state its in or to pull every so often if state changed? • Ubuntu won't start - blank screen with flashing white cursor

  My laptop is dual-booted with Windows 8 on one partition and Ubuntu 12.04.3 on the other. I've searched for my issue already, but nothing I've found so far has solved the problem. Since last week, when I try to boot Ubuntu from GRUB, I am taken to a purple screen (as usual), but then to a black screen with a blinking white _ cursor. I've tried leaving it, but nothing else happens. When I hold Shift and edit the GRUB entry to change 'quiet slash' to 'text', the back screen instead asks for my login and password. When I put them in, it tells me the date of my last logon, and then waits for further commands. Being very very new to Ubuntu, I have no idea at all what to try out at this point. I tried to launch FailsafeX, but while that was beginning, it said "unable to run server /usr/bin/x" No such file or directory", then shortly after returned to the recovery mode menu. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete goes through an Ubuntu loading screen, then the laptop then restarts. Any suggestions will be very appreciated, and apologies if this is a common issue that has been answered a million times before.

• End of Public Updates for Java SE 6

  It's important for developers and systems administrators to either make the transition over to Java SE 7 or to work with Oracle to get updates via the Java SE Support program. Have you updated to Java SE 7? Along with great features (Fork/Join, NIO, Project Coin), Java SE 7 is being updated and patched regularly. Java SE 7 has been out for over a year and is ready to download.  The last publicly available release of Oracle JDK 6 is to be released in February, 2013. This means that after 19 February 2013, all new security updates, patches and fixes for Java SE 6 and Java SE 5 will only be available through My Oracle Support and will thus require a commercial license with Oracle.    In the event you are not ready to migrate to Java SE 7, Oracle offers: Java SE Support for continued access to critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for JDK 6. Additionally, Java SE Advanced and Suite offers superior diagnostics and manageability tools that minimize the costs of deployment, monitoring and maintenance of Java-based IT environments. The Java SE Support Roadmap reflects an updated timeline for the End of Public Updates for JDK 6. The End of Public Updates date has been extended from November 2012 to February 2013, to allow some more time for the transition to JDK 7. • Developing an iOS app for a single device - licensing issue

  I'm developing an iOS app for a museum as a freelancer. It's a very simple video player, to be installed on a single iPad that will be part of a permanent exhibition, basically acting as a kiosk. It turns out the iPad is the ideal device for that if you're looking for a small and affordable touchscreen. The problem is: as far as I can tell, none of the Apple Developer Program options available will allow me to distribute an app like that. The relevant options are (from the link above): iOS Developer Program ($99/year) Select this program if you would like to distribute apps on the App Store as an individual, sole proprietor, company, organization, government entity or educational institution. iOS Developer Enterprise Program ($299/year) Select this program if you would like to develop proprietary apps for internal distribution within your company, organization, government entity or educational institution. The regular program requires distribution through the App Store. The Enterprise version is for internal distribution within my own organization. Neither is the case here! It seems like I'm doomed to violate Apple's terms of service (and I can think of at least two ways of doing that: jailbreaking, or changing the iPad's date so it won't know the provisioning profile expired). Is that really so, or did I get the descriptions wrong? Has anyone here been in a similar situation?

• GUI based backup utility [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Comparison of backup tools I have read favorable reviews for 'Back In Time' for the purpose stated above. Still I am posting this question as I have some demands in my mind. Few years back I was using ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery by IBM on my Lenovo PC under Windows. That provided me nice features like compressed backups, boot time options - OS Repair, Restore entire OS, restore entire system to an older date, restore individual files etc. Out of these the feature I liked the most was compressed backups. Similar features are available in software like Norton Ghost too. In Back In Time I was surprised to see that the snapshot takes up same amount of space as that of the original contents, no compression at all. Furthermore, I was not able to find options to change the compression ratio etc. under settings. According to me compression of backups is a must have feature. Therefore, can anyone suggest me any other utility which can serve the purpose. I insist on GUI based tool since I don't want to mess up with backups!

• Smarter Search Results in NetBeans IDE 7.2

  After you search your code using NetBeans IDE (using Ctrl-F for "Find" or Ctrl-H for "Replace"), you see the Search Results window, which looks like this: At least, the above is how it looks in NetBeans IDE 7.2. Before that, you didn't have all those extra columns (which can be displayed in the Search Results window after clicking the small button top right in the view) and you also didn't have the quick search (which is invoked by typing directly into the Search Results window), as can be seen here: So, the Search Results window now provides a lot more info than before. Being able to know the path to a file I've found, as well as the last modification date, file size, and the number of matches within the file, is useful at the end of a search process. In the NetBeans IDE 7.2 New & Noteworthy, the above changes are described in the Utilities section, as well as in the Quick Search in OutlineView section, where you can read that these are generic solutions that can be used in your own OutlineViews. • UnsatisfiedLinkError: no swt-gtk-4233

  I'm a Java newbie who just a made a simple Java program using SWT for GUI via eclipse Juno. The code was working and the program was able to run inside eclipse, so I compiled it and made it a runnable jar file so it can be run outside eclipse. I tried to run it using the terminal and this error came up. Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. Reasons: no swt-gtk-4233 in java.library.path no swt-gtk in java.library.path Can't load library: /home/abody/.swt/lib/linux/x86_64/libswt-gtk-4233.so Can't load library: /home/abody/.swt/lib/linux/x86_64/libswt-gtk.so at org.eclipse.swt.internal.Library.loadLibrary(Library.java:331) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.Library.loadLibrary(Library.java:240) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.C.<clinit>(C.java:21) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.Converter.wcsToMbcs(Converter.java:63) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.Converter.wcsToMbcs(Converter.java:54) at org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Display.<clinit>(Display.java:133) at Class1.main(Class1.java:12) So now it looks like it can't find "libswt-gtk-4233.so" and the other file. However, when I took a look at he ".swt" folder I had an "libswt-gtk-3740.so" not 4233. So its trying to find a file that is more up-to-date. So what does that mean, should I update SWT? what's going on?

• How do I restore default menu/top panel text color in Gnome Classic?

  The default text/icon color in my top panel has changed from white to a very dark grey, making my menus virtually unreadable against the black of the Ambiance theme. This includes even the login screen menu. I used Gnome Tweak to change the theme to Adwaita, but while some text has gone light grey (e.g. Date/Time), the login menu text remains dark grey, as do most icons (e.g. dropbox, wireless, battery indicator...) in the top panel after I log in. I tried deleting the top panel altogether but the option of deleting under Super + Alt + Right Click is blocked off. I tried running a panel from the terminal, but it came up in strange colors too, plus icons had moved around and some parts of the panel were opaque and other parts transparent. Deleting the panel wouldn't solve the basic problem anyway, as my login menu would still be very dark grey and unreadable against the default (black) Ambiance background. I would like to keep Ambiance but I want to reset the color to default (white) again. Can anyone help me?

• 404s on password protected content

  I'm new to WordPress and SEO, generally, but we've been running into problems with our site that don't seem to make sense to me. The problem is that our editor likes to schedule posts and/or mark them private until she is ready to make them public, but somehow Google is crawling these posts and getting 404s (because they are password protected). How does Google know they exist in the first place? I checked the sitemap.xml file and don't see a record of the post. One of the offending posts was marked public, but is scheduled for a future date. Could that have something to do with it? I've tried to Google the answer, and I came up with a good amount of reassurance that this won't hurt the site, but I'm still wondering how it's happening in the first place. It's hard because I don't know exactly what the editor's workflow is. Is it possible she's posting publicly first and then revising it to be private only after it's too late? Does anyone know how Google finds WordPress URLs it shouldn't have access to?

  Assembly is the smallest unit of deployment in .NET Framework.When you compile your C# code, it will get converted into a managed module. A managed module is a standard EXE or DLL. This managed module will have the IL (Microsoft Intermediate Language) code and the metadata. Apart from this it will also have header information.The following table describes parts of a managed module.PartDescriptionPE HeaderPE32 Header for 32-bit PE32+ Header for 64-bit This is a standard Windows PE header which indicates the type of the file, i.e. whether it is an EXE or a DLL. • Google penalty recovery

  I have a site, which is a spiritual site and has nothing to do with commercial or business thing. It was in the first page with the keyword RADHANATH SWAMI. Then suddenly, in sep'13, the site went out from google search. When I checked my WebmasterTools, I saw that there were 40,000 backlinks from a site named http://freeguestbooks.net. But manual action section in WebmasterToolssaid "No Manual webspam actions found" and till date, it shows the same. Then I contacted the webmaster of freeguestbooks.net and requested him to remove the 40K odd backlinks and he very kindly removed it. The WebmasterTools now shows 21,777 backlinks from this site. But since 2 months, the decrease rate of these backlinks is very slow, almost zero. Again, I had contacted the webmaster of freeguestbooks.net and he confirmed that there are no backlinks pointing to his site. I am also told that my anchor text is over-optimised... Total backlinks to my site as per WebmasterTools is only 24,937 out of which 21,777 are the links from freeguestbooks.net as shown in WebmasterTools. • Finding back to an old project that was turned upside-down by the developer. Your workflow?

  after some time I'm asked to work on a heavy web-project I did (layout, html/css) about a year ago. There are some changes that have to be made, basically some css and js stuff. By now the whole project was turned upside down by the developer. It gives me a hard time to connect to the work of him, especially because my old files and file-structure won't work anymore. Thats why I need a up-to-date working-environment, but I don't want to change the files on the server directly. Need some testing and improving while doing this. So, what is your workflow in such a case? Thought about copying the whole/parts of the server to a own homeserver. But even that will be a big task for me (I'm more the front-end-guy). Would be great if theres a way to shrink it down (php, mysql,...), since I only need to change some css/html javascript. Are there any tools available? Love to hear how you handle such situations. • How much a programmer should read in order to keep himself updated? [closed]

  There are lots of technical books available. Below are few links which lists some good books If you could only have one programming related book on your bookshelf what would it be and why? What non-programming books should a programmer read to help develop programming/thinking skills? Best books on the theory and practice of software architecture? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1711/what-is-the-single-most-influential-book-every-programmer-should-read ... and the list can go on and on and on. It will be really difficult to read all of the above mentioned books. I am not sure if its even possible for anyone to do that. Even if you filter it based on one's area of interest or work, list is still very large. .. and the technology keeps on changing (even more books :-( ) So, my question is how much a programmer should read lets say per year? How much hours one should put in such activities to keep oneself up to date? How do we find out the time required? PS: Average programmer reads less than one book per year (Code complete). What about the good programmers?
