• Kohana and Javscript path

  Hi! I have a following Kohana setup: All my files are placed under 'public_html/koh' My js files are placed under 'public_html/koh/media/js/' I use html::script helper to include those javascript files which generates me following html code: In my js I access one of controllers like 'json/getsomething' (which is http://localhost/koh/json/getsomething). It works OK as long as I'm staying in top of the controller: http://localhost/koh/home When I go to 'http://localhost/koh/home/index' it renders the same page of course but 'json/getsomething' is not accessible from Javascript anymore. How can I solve this problem? Include Javascript using absolute path? Create a variable in js like var fullPath = 'http://localhost/koh/'? What is the best practice to do it? Leonti

  I'm new in both javascript and V8. According to Google's Embedder's Guide, I saw something in the context section talking about built-in utility javascript functions. And I also found some .js files(e.g. math.js) in the downloaded source code, so I tried to write a simple program to call functions in these files, but I failed. Does a context created by Persistent<Context> context = Context::New() have any built-in js functions? How can I access them? Is there a way to first import existing js files as a library(something like src="xxx" type="text/javascript" in HTML page) and then run my own execute script? Can I call google maps api through the embedded V8 library in app? How?

  Hello, to initialize a javascript loaded grid, I need to pass a list of values from controller/gsp. Since the javascript is activated once the page is rendered/loaded, there may not be a direct way to do it. 2 possibilities 1. do an ajax call, and retrieve the list of values from the server 2. store the list in html as a hidden element, and read it from javascript. option 2 seems better as it avoids few calls back to server. So, which control should I use for a list of values? Any jQuery code snippet to read it back into array/list. thanks in advance.

  Currently I am working on a legacy web page that uses a ton of javascript, jquery, microsoft client javascript, and other libraries. The bottom line - I cannot rewrite the entire page from scratch as the business cannot justify it. So... it is what it is. Anyway, I need to pollute (I really tried not too) the global namespace with a variable. There are the three options I was thinking - Just store/retrieve it using a normal javascript declaration - var x = 0; Utilize jQuery to store/retrieve the value in a DOM tag - $("body").data("x", 0); Utilize a hidden form field, and set/retrieve the value with jQuery - $("whatever").data("x", 0); What does everyone think? Is there a better way? I looked at the existing pile of code and I do not believe the variable can be scoped in a function.

  I know I'm able to this in PHP, but I can't remember the name or the way to do it, so I'll just explain what it is, and when someone tells me how it's called I'll update this question. I have some error messages defined as constants on javascript, however, some of those messages need to contain dynamic part as in the following example. "The username must be between 4 and 20 characters" In php, If I'm not mistaken there was some option for storing that string in a way that when called it would replace the variables with the data provided on the call. I want to do that on javascript, something like: config['string',vars] And have javascript insert those vars inside the string so it's customized. Wow, this must be the worst question I've made! I'm sorry for the lack of information, I'm kinda braindead on Sundays.

• How to superpose two GwtCanvas ?

  Hi, I'm trying to superpose two GwtCanvas (which use an Html5 canvas). I am able to get this effect by using an absolute panel. But by doing this, I can't get my object to fill my panel. I would like to this so I can do a whiteboard in GWT. So far, I'm pretty advance but I would like to have multiple canvas overlay to support undo or preview. For example, if we draw a rectangle, it would be good to preview it as we move the mouse. I have found a javascript tutorial to do this : ex: http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/html5-canvas-painting/ There is a javascript example, but I'm not sure how to do the bridge between GWT and JavaScript. Any ideas ?

• Getting ready to learn html5

  I'm a desktop application developer, and I plan learning html5, but as it's not released, there are (almost) no published books and not too much infomation for beginners on the web... I feel I should start with html4 and the current web development skills. I think I should start with html4, css, and javascript... but there are so many technologies related that I get lost :D So, what current technologies will be still used when html5 is released? I mean, what about "jquery" and "ajax"? I know they are javascript under the hood, but will they still make sense in the future? What would you recommend me considering that I have just a little bit of html knowlegde, almost null CSS and completely null in javascript?

  I want to change the cursor to an hourglass in my asp.net application to let my users know that the process is running. I searched for an answer and was advised to use javascript as follows. 1) Add this javascript function hourglass() { document.body.style.cursor = "wait"; } 2) then in my code in the page load event: btnImport.Attributes.Add("onclick", "javascript: hourglass();"); When btnImport is the button they click on However this does not work. While the html() method properly evaluates the inline JS code, it doesn't download and evaluate the external JS file "myfile.js". Any tip for this issue?

  I'd like to display two independent Tumblr blogs next to each other on one page. I'd like them to look identical to their Tumblr theme. What's the best way to do this?   My rails app is about to go live and I'm trying to figure out how to create a widget based on data on the site. My Javascript is not too hot--limited to the O'reilly head first book on JS. I can read simple Javascript okay but when it comes to writing it I'm a little lost. That said, I hope to roll out a widget, maybe a wordpress plugin too soon after my app is launched. Does anyone know of any rails plugins, javascript templates, tutorials or books that can get me going? I did ask a similar question before here: But my limited knowledge of JS kept me from implementing the suggested answer properly.

• Changing API level Android Studio

  I want to change the minimum SDK version in Android Studio from API 12 to API 14. I have tried changing it in the manifest file, i.e., <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="14" android:targetSdkVersion="18" /> and rebuilding the project, but I still get the Android Studio IDE throwing up some errors. I presume I have to set the min SDK in 'project properties' or something similar so the IDE recognises the change, but I can't find where this is done in Android Studio. Pointers greatly appreciated.   Hi all, I am building a small facebook application. I am using asp.net and currently working with the fb:req-choice control (tied along with fb:request-form and fb:multi-friend-selector). Problem is, that when I specify the redirect url for when the user clicks my invitation, instead of getting what I specified: http://apps.facebook.com/myApp/forum.aspx?tId=1&ref=app&code=2.74rRNejG7tpAOqgDCNf8qA__.3600.1275202400-106570384737670%7CPi8JpoHDW3xGuq2lxdZl1d4CLUU. Instead, only the first parameter is written, why is that? How can I get this right?

• ASP.NET - Display Message While Page Is Loading

  I have a page that performs a long-running task (10 to 15 seconds) in the page_load method. I have client-side javascript code that will display a decent "page loading" animated gif to the user. I am able to invoke the JavaScript method from the code-behind, to display the "page loading" animated gif, however, the long-running task is hanging up the UI such that the animated gif doesn't actually display until after the long-running task is complete, which is the exact opposite of what I want. To test this out, in my page_load method I make a call to the JavaScript method to display the animated gif. Then, I use Thread.Sleep(10000). What happens is that the animated gif doesn't display until after Thread.Sleep is complete. Obviously I am doing something incorrect. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Chris

  I am at present introducing code to my site to combine css and javascript files. Is there a way without having to include an external library to load javascript asynchronously or in parallel? I have read on some blogs that combining of files can be counter productive as the load of the http request can be large and its better to load multiple files in parallel. Opinions on this? I am caching my javascript/css. And would have thought it was better to combine rather than have multiple http requests.

• sproutcore or cappucino for web app development?

  I recently found out about the sproutcore and capuccino frameworks for web app development as proper MVC approach to creating Desktop-like applications. As far as I could understand, the main difference between the two frameworks is that Cappucino abstracts away the HTML+CSS+Javascript to Objective-J - a new programming language developed be the creators of Capuccino that adds OO capabilities to Javascript, whereas Sproutcore uses HTML5,CSS,Javascript. After lots of pondering, I thought it's probably best to go with technologies we know, so I downloaded the Sproutcore tools and did the tutorials, and I have to say I was very impressed. Just the kind of thing I was looking for, for organizing a complex web app. However, I just stumbled across the following link: http://charlesjolley.sys-con.com/node/1341228 in which Charles Jolley (the creator of Sproutcore) syas that he's tired of waiting for the HTML5 and ECMAScript5 specs to get finalized, and announces that from version 1.1 onwards they will be switching to Objective-J ! So now the question is - what will actually differentiate Sproutcore and Capuccino - and which one should I choose now? Kind Regards Swami

• API access to a manually-created Google Map

  I have a number of public custom Google Maps created via http://maps.google.com/ - obviously associated with my google account. Can I access these maps via the Google Maps javascript api? The api doesn't appear to work with the manually created maps located on maps.google.com from what I can tell? And if not, is there another way to store overlay data (markers, etc) that the javascript api can grab and load into the map on the client's browser? Am thinking a service like dabbleDB, except that I don't think they offer write access via javascript (this would be necessary for the user adding markers to the map, for example) Obviously I could create a db layer on my server, but am looking for a 'cloud' solution that removes the strain from my databases!!
