• Multiple page technique

  Six years ago I wrote an large web application. It was my very first php program, and it grew, and grew. I used a lot of forms, and some very (atrocious) techniques to give an AJAX "look" to the site, and to handle multiple users with various permissions. I am looking to expand this, and sell it to other companies in the field, but I need to seriously modernize it. Currently, it loads index.php where you log in. The user can then select from various "students" or "participants" (We work with people with disabilities). From there, you can select different lesson plans or life skills that are being worked on. There are many other branches as well. At each stage, a different page is served: Sel_Paricipant.php, Sel_Program.php, etc. Are there any fundamental problems with doing it this way? If so, what are some good techniques for eliminating this, so that people only see the TLD in their address bar? Thanks in advance. --Dave

  Hello, I try to deploy a GWT application, to Google App Engine using NetBeans. I had successful run GWT sample http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/tutorial/create.html using Personal GlassFish v3 Prelude Domain, by 1) Copy generated source code from StockWatcher to C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\src\java\com\google\ 2) Modify C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\nbproject\gwt.properties gwt.module=com.google.gwt.stockwatcher.StockWatcher 3) Select Personal GlassFish v3 Prelude Domain, and run. All works fine! Now, I try to select Google App Engine server, and run. However, I get the error "There is no appengine web project opened!" I check... There is file called C:\Projects\StockWatcherNetbeans\war\WEB-INF\appengine-web.xml with content <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <appengine-web-app xmlns="http://appengine.google.com/ns/1.0" xmlns:xsi='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance' xsi:schemaLocation='http://kenai.com/projects/nbappengine/downloads/download/schema/appengine-web.xsd appengine-web.xsd'> <application>StockWatcherNetbeans</application> <version>1</version> </appengine-web-app> I am using NetBeans 6.7.1 GWT4NB (GWT Plugin for NetBeans) 2.6.12 Google App Engine plugin for NetBeans from http://kenai.com/downloads/nbappengine/1.0_NetBeans671/updates.xml Anything I had missed out? Even when I right click to the project, the Deploy to Google App Engine options is disabled. And yes, please do not ask me why not use Eclipse.

• How to handle checkboxes in ASP.NET MVC forms?

  This seems a bit bizarre to me, but as far as I can tell, this is how you do it. I have a collection of objects, and I want users to select one or more of them. This says to me "form with checkboxes." My objects don't have any concept of "selected" (they're rudimentary POCO's formed by deserializing a wcf call). So, I do the following: public class SampleObject{ public Guid Id {get;set;} public string Name {get;set;} } In the view: <% using (Html.BeginForm()) { %> <%foreach (var o in ViewData.Model) {%> <%=Html.CheckBox(o.Id)%>&nbsp;<%= o.Name %> <%}%> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> <%}%> And, in the controller, this is the only way I can see to figure out what objects the user checked: public ActionResult ThisLooksWeird(FormCollection result) { var winnars = from x in result.AllKeys where result[x] != "false" select x; // yadda } Its freaky in the first place, and secondly, for those items the user checked, the FormCollection lists its value as "true false" rather than just true. Obviously, I'm missing something. I think this is built with the idea in mind that the objects in the collection that are acted upon within the html form are updated using UpdateModel() or through a ModelBinder. But my objects aren't set up for this; does that mean that this is the only way? Is there another way to do it?

• How Do I Escape Apostrophes in Field Valued in SQL Server?

  I asked a question a couple days ago about creating INSERTs by running a SELECT to move data to another server. That worked great until I ran into a table that has full on HTML and apostrophes in it. What's the best way to deal with this? Lucking there aren't too many rows so it is feasible as a last resort to 'copy and paste'. But, eventually I will need to do this and the table by that time will probably be way too big to copy and paste these HTML fields. • Stack Overflow problem transforming with a custom xslt

  I've got a system that allows the user the option of providing their own XSLT to apply to some data that's been retrieved, as a means of specifying how that data should be presented. However, if the user includes code in the XSLT equivalent to: <xsl:template match="/"> <xsl:element name="data"> <xsl:apply-templates select="." /> </xsl:element> </xsl:template> this causes .NET to infinitely recurse trying to process it, and produces a stack overflow error. I need to be able to trap this before it crashes the app, as the data that's been retrieved is occasionally quite time-consuming to obtain, and the data is lost when this happens. Is there any way of doing this? I know it's theoretically possible to identify any occurrences of xsl:apply-templates with "." in the select attribute, but this isn't the only way an infinite recursion could happen, I need a way of generically trapping it.

The project I work in, however, uses the Criteria API instead of raw SQL, and I haven't found a way to express the same query in that form. I've taken a look on the Restrictions API and the closest I've found is Restions.in(propertyName, collection) but that works the other way around (one value in object, many values to match against). Any ideas?

• Autoselect, focus and highlight a new NSOutlineView row

  This is probably just lack of experience with the NSOutlineView but I can't see a way to do this. I have a NSOutlineView (implemented with the excellent PXSourceList) with an add button that is totally functional in the aspect that I save/write/insert/delete rows correctly. I do not use a NSTreeController, and I don't use bindings. • ORDER BY column_name help (via link in HTML table view) (PHP MySQL

  My output for my table in HTML has several columns such as userid, name, age, dob. The table heading is simply the title of the column name, I want this to be a link, and when clicked, the selected column is sorted in order, ASC, and then DESC (on next click). I thought this was pretty straight forward but I'm having some difficulty. So far, I have produced this, and no output is taken, apart from the URL works by displaying 'users.php?orderby=userid' <?php if(isset($_GET['orderby'])){ $orderby = $_GET['orderby']; $query_sv = "SELECT * FROM users BY ".mysql_real_escape_string($orderby)."   Hi, i'm using formtastic, all is ok, but strange thing - on = form.input :birthdate, :as => :date it renders to something like <li><label for="profile_birthdate_2i">Month</label><select id="profile_birthdate_2i" name="profile[birthdate(2i)]"> <option value="1">114</option> <option value="2">97</option> <option value="3">110</option> <option value="4">115</option> <option value="5">108</option> <option value="6">97</option> <option value="7">116</option> <option value="8">105</option> <option value="9">111</option> <option value="10">110</option> <option value="11">32</option> <option value="12">109</option> </select> but if i'm using in semantic_form something like = form.datetime_select :birthdate it renders correctly. I've found information, that it may be caused by locale file with no translations for month names, but its so strange - why rails helpers renders month names ok, but formtastic - not :( any ideas?

• problem with converting simple code to silverlight app.

  Hi. I have this code for window form application and I have been attempting to convert it to a Silverlight application but it does not work!. There is a Textbox and I attached KeyDown event handler to it. when the user press the arrow key ( left or right) while the focus on the textbox, it will write . or -. When it is window form i used e.KeyCode and Keys.Right and its works great but when it is silverlight I used e.Key and key.Right and the program doesn't work good because the arrows do the 2 functions moving and write ./-. How I can work this out in Silverlight? • SQL Server Collation / ADO.NET DataTable.Locale with different languages

  Hi all, we have WinForms app which stores data in SQL Server (2000, we are working on porting it in 2008) through ADO.NET (1.1, working on porting to 4.0). Everything works fine if I read data previsouly written in Western-European locale (E.g.: "test", "test ù"), but now we have to be able to mix Western and non-Western alphabets as well (E.g.: "test - ???" - these are just random arabic chars). On the SQL Server side, database has been set with the Latin1_General collation, the field is a nvarchar(80). If I run a SQL SELECT statement (E.g.: "SELECT * FROM MyTable WHERE field = 'test - ???'", don't mind about the "*" or the actual names) from Query Analyzer, I get no results; the same happens if I pass the Sql statement to an ADO.NET DataAdapter to fill a DataTable. My guess is that it has something to do with collation, but I don't know how to correct this: do I have to change to collation (SQL Server) to a different one? Or do I have to set the locale on the DataAdaoter/DataTable (ADO.NET)? Thanks in advance to anyone who will help

• Sorting by custom field and fetching whole tree from DB

  Hello everyone, I am trying to do file browser in a tree form and have a problem to sort it somehow. I use PHP and MySQL for that. I've created mixed (nested set + adjacency) table 'element' with the following fields: element_id, left_key, right_key, level, parent_id, element_name, element_type (enum: 'folder','file'), element_size. Let's not discuss right now that it is better to move information about element (name, type, size) into other table. Function to scan specified directory and fill table work correctly. Noteworthy, i am adding elements to tree in specific order: folders first and then files. After that i can easily fetch and display whole table on the page using simple query: SELECT * FROM element WHERE 1=1 ORDER BY left_key With the result of that query and another function i can generate correct html code (<ul><li>... and so on). to display tree. Now back to the question (finally, huh?). I am struggling to add sorting functionality. For example i want to order my result by size. Here i need to keep in my mind whole hierarchy of tree and rule: folders first, files later. I believe i can do that by generating in PHP recursive query: SELECT * FROM element WHERE parent_id = {$parentId} ORDER BY element_type (so folders would be first), size (or name for example) asc/desc After that for each result which has type = 'folder' i will send another query to get it's content. Also it's possible to fetch whole tree by left_key and after that sort it in PHP as array but i guess that would be worse :) I wonder if there is better and more efficient way to do such a thing?

• How to query MySQL for exact length and exact UTF-8 characters

  I have table with words dictionary in my language (latvian). CREATE TABLE words ( value varchar(255) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci DEFAULT NULL ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_unicode_ci; And let's say it has 3 words inside: INSERT INTO words (value) VALUES ('teja'); INSERT INTO words (value) VALUES ('vejš'); INSERT INTO words (value) VALUES ('feja'); What I want to do is I want to find all words that is exactly 4 characters long and where second character is 'e' and third character is 'j' For me it feels that correct query would be: SELECT * FROM words WHERE value LIKE '_ej_'; But problem with this query is that it returs not 2 entries ('teja','vejš') but all three. As I understand it is because internally MySQL converts strings to some ASCII representation? Then there is BINARY addition possible for LIKE SELECT * FROM words WHERE value LIKE BINARY '_ej_'; But this also does not return 2 entries ('teja','vejš') but only one ('teja'). I believe this has something to do with UTF-8 2 bytes for non ASCII chars? So question: What MySQL query would return my exact two words ('teja','vejš')? Thank you in advance

  hi I'm quite new to mysql and I'm trying to figure out how to use triggers. what I'm trying to do: I have 2 tables, max and sub_max, when I insert a new row to sub_max I want to check if the SUM of the values with the same foreign_key as the new row are less than the value in the max table.
