    Hi Is it possible to measure which web pages are visited mostyy and download their contenet so that people can access them offline. Basic scheme is: There will be client software on each user PC which will extract domain information on http requests and decide if it's already available on server or not. On the server side there will be another software which updates downloaded web pages. Do you think is this a good way of utilizing intranet bandwith ? thanks

    I work in a small department in a very large company. Our department operates largely as a independent unit within the company. Each member of the team has a different role. My role within the team is a operations/admin and no one knew of my skills in programing as I never said anything before about it. I just did my work and in the free time read up on things for my own development Our developer who used to look after our websites has left a few months ago. Now when we require edits to our websites even basic HTML changes we outsource the work. We are getting shafted big time. I could of so said something sooner to highlight my skills in this area but I guess I was just happy to do my own development projects. And one reason was they are using asp.net and I have mainly done things in php. I only hinted before that I have done things but I did not want to reveal them before I had completed anything. I was working on something for myself that the company was also trying to implement something similar(e commerce site). I used open source and they decided to go for a propriety solution. Now I have finished my project and showed it to my boss, their project is still not completed and is quite expensive. He was impressed with what I showed him and suggested I should go for courses to learn asp.net. that I may be able to do the development work for them and there are some big upcoming projects in the future. He said this would be a benefit for me that I should look to be doing a better then role then admin. My employer does have a policy if relevent to the role they may support the costs of courses. Now how do I play this what should I say to my boss. I want to get advise on which MS certified courses would be good for asp.net and how to best approach my boss to see if they will pay all the amount for the course. And how much different will asp.net be from php.

  • VB.Net 2008 IDE hanging - MSVB7.dll eating 100% CPU when editing code

    I am having a problem with msvb7.dll eating 50%+ cpu on my dual core system. This usually lasts 10-30 seconds or so, during which time the IDE is non-responsive. This occurs when I do pretty much anything in the text editor, and can be replicated by simply adding blank lines to a function, and then deleting them. Or pasting some code. Or... lotsa stuff. SP1 installed I had DevExpress' refactor/coderush, components, and codeit.right installed, but have removed all 3 of them. (I had installed the latest version of Refactor Pro! (9.3.4), perhaps the day before) I have tried a VS.NET Repair. There is a kb that referenced some cpu destroying with vb, but it was included in SP1 Also: The solution consists of ~30 VB projects and 2 C# projects 8 other developers aren't having any issues with this (or at least not the SAME issues, we all have em) Clean get from TFS was done Project builds properly, can can even debug. This doesn't seem to happen on really small solutions, but perhaps it does and it just goes away super quick. Any clues at all as to what might be causing this, or how to fix it? I REALLY don't want to lose another day uninstalling and reinstalling and patching and so on =) If that even fixes it.   • What's the easiest way to assign a string returned from the server to a javascript string?

    The following does not work: var js_str= '<?php echo $str_from_server; ?>'; The problem is that, $str_from_server can contain any characters. If it contains single quotes or line breaks or others, the above code will break. And I do not have access to the server-side code. What's the easiest way to "escape" the contents of $str_from_server into a javascript string, and then it can be restored later?

    I was always using the direct Add to Page Tab URL like this: http://www.facebook.com/dialog/pagetab?app_id=238557109577754&redirect_uri=http://www.facebook.com And today that URL gives me "Sorry, something went wrong.". Did something changed on Facebook side? Or is it a temporary bug? Note that I have tried other redirect_uri params, such as the URL of the location where the app is hosted. It does always result in the same error.

  • SQL Server Query with "ELSE:"

    I have various VB6 projects I'm maintaining with some of the queries being passed to the server having "ELSE:" with the colon used in case statements. I'm wondering can someone tell me what the **ll the colon is used for? It causes errors in SQL2005 and greater, but SQL2000 works with no complaints. I'd like to just remove it from the code & re-compile, but I'm afraid it'll break 10 other things in the application.. Thanks in advance...

  • Downside to including headers in every source file (Objective-C)

    I'm currently including my AppDelegate.h and all of my category headers into every one of my source files using the MyApp_Prefix.pch prefix header, instead of manually #importing them only where they are used. The category methods and lots of compiler #define's in my app delegate are used in lots of places in my code. Is there any down side to this? Is it just that compilation will take longer?

  • Are there any data-binding solution that works in C++ and GWT and supports structures polymorphism?

    I expect it should share a common description, like XmlSchema or IDL and should generate classes for target language. I found Thrift and it's really nice solution, but it doesn't support structures polymorphism. I would like to have collections of base class objects, where I could place instances of subclasses, serialize this and deserialize at the opposite side. Some mechanism of polymorphic behavior support, like Visitor, would be a perfect. Does anybody know something suitable for these requirements?
