On Windows Server 2008 R2 with the User Account Control Settings at the third highest level when you start explorer 'as administrator' it doesnt appear to actually grant administrative rights to the process. Is there a way to leave UAC at that level AND be able to start an explorer process as a 'real' administrator?
Windows 7 requires the following specifications:
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Will it work at all on my old toshiba Satellite A100 PSAA8C-SK400E
Intel® Core™ Solo processor T1350 (1.86GHz, 533MHz FSB, L1 Cache 32KB/32KB, L2 Cache 2MB)
Standard Memory: 2x512 MB DDR2
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with 8MB-128MB.
The main problem I can see is that the graphics is not up to it.
When I installed Windows 8 Professional Edition I noticed that Internet Explorer 10 was missing. I tried to find some source to acquire the installer but none of the sites are providing it. One of my colleagues upgraded recently and he got the new Internet Explorer after his installation was completed. So is there a way to acquire the installer?
Update:
I should have mentioned that I was talking about the Metro version.

Hi all,
I have a SBS2003 with a HP 2600n installed on it. I am able to print from the server, the test page prints. From my computer, Windows 7 Pro, I am unable to print any document...
What would be your suggestions?!
Any takers?
Thanks!
By command line inetcpl.cpl triggers internet options window.
Are there any advance options of inetcpl.cpl available from command line?
Tab selection, i.e Content tab.
Launch new window from internet option, i.e Certificate windows.
Would appreciate if anyone could tell me if it's feasible or show me the right direction.
Info: I would like to run a .bat file to open Internet Options' Certificate Window.
When Spotify is running, it shows a little icon in the activity field. On most operative systems, closing the Spotify window minimizes the player to the activity window, freeing up space in the task bar - but not in Windows 7, it seems.
I think it's a little uneccessary to have two icons in almost the same place that does almost the same thing. Is there anyway to hide a program icon from the task bar, in this case specifically Spotify?
Is it possible to migrate the Windows XP Pro 32 bit operating system, applications etc from a USB external drive which is the recovered hard drive from that failed system to my new desktop computer with Windows7 64 bit system? In doing so, I would like to set up the new computer with the OS and all general applications on the primary 1TB hard drive while the secondary 1TB hard drive to have nothing else but graphics programs and gaming applications complete with their related files and add-ons. What will I need to accomplish this task efficiently and economically?
Hey,
We have a windows 2008 SBS, roughly every couple of days no machine on the network can access sites such as google/msn/bbc etc. Its solved easily by rebooting the DNS on the server, however this obviously should noy happen, can anyone suggest a reason or offer debugging assistance?
As per the title.
My VMWare player installation has setup the two network adaptor VMnet1 and VMnet8 and they are picked up as unidentified networks with no network access (i need this to activate my windows server installation on it).
The option to change the network location is not available (this might be because of network policy on the domain despite having set this as configurable in the local security policy section). Is there anyway i can change how these networks are detected or alter the configuration of vmware to get around this?
I would like to use a jabber client in Windows 7 to use with gmail chat.
I prefer the web based client, but i always keep logging out of my browser which gets annoying.
Im interested to know what clients people are using.
Thanks
There is a remote filesystem I can reach through ssh. On Linux, there are several ways of dealing with it. I like sshfs, because with it I can work with the remote files the same way as with my local files.
Is there any similar to Windows, that can map a network drive through ssh? The best I can use is WinSCP, which is good, but not good enough.
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for a utility for Windows that will, with a keyboard shortcut send an application to the system tray, and hitting the same keystroke (or even a different one) to restore it. This behavior is very similar to Apple + . when using Tweetie to show/hide the app in OS X.
I know of applications like Tray it!, and Autohotkey, but I wanted to know if there was one that did it all.
Does anyone have a solution for this that they have found?
Windows 7 backup fails and gives me the message that there is insufficient disk space. I have over 2oo gigs of free space on one drive and 900 on the other.
Neither Windows XP nor Mac OS X 10.6 seem to support creation of a PAN NAP. What would be the correct way to create a PAN ad-hoc PANU2PANU network with only built-in OS tools?
There are many things you have to do/consider when you want to enable HTTP compression on IIS 6.0 (Windows Server 2003).
Can somebody please provide a comprehensive list of the actions you have to take in order to enable HTTP compression properly?

I have searched and asked questions on Lenovo forums but still no answers.
Are there any tools/utilities that will change Windows Update to not download when a machine is using a 3G-type wireless network connection?
Not sure if there is any difference between using a 3G USB key and a tethered iPhone.
Can anyone recommend (free) Thesaurus software for Windows XP (that isn't WordWeb)? It has to work with British English.
I want to install standalone software that gives me easy access (right click, keyboard shortcut or something) to alternatives to the selected word when I'm writing, whether it's an email, a text doc in notepad, on an internet forum or whatever.
I've tried WordWeb but found it pretty horrible - I want something that acts more like the Thesaurus in MS Word, giving a dozen or so decent alternatives to the selected word.

On a windows server (2008), can you even telnet into the server? (not remote desktop, but via the command line)
If yes, is there much control really?
How do people automate if you can't telnet? (assuming you can't)
I've got a copy of WinXP off of MSDNAA, with a key. I've mounted it to my CD-drive, and now I'm trying to make it in to a VM.
The problem is, it seems that the thing is constantly trying to connect to a DHCP server, fails to connect and then decides no operating system was found.
The file I got off MSDNAA was an .img file, so I had to mount it to a virtual CD drive.
VmWare workstation comes with a Windows XP iso, tried that, also failed.
While attempting to install .NET 3.5 SP1 on a fresh install of Windows 7 RC, nothing happens. The machine gives a UAC prompt. When selecting Yes, nothing happens.
Using the full redistributable package gives the same result: nothing.
Is there a reason why the .NET 3.5 SP1 installer would suddenly quit and not proceed with installation?
