  I'd like to be able to tell whether or not an assembly is the output/result from using ILMerge on two different assemblies. It doesn't matter how nitty gritty it is, if I have to parse IL, I'm willing to do it. Is there anything that would be indicate that the assembly author used ILMerge?

• Can I create a custom roleprovider through a WCF service?

  I have a web application that accesses a database through a wcf service. The idea is to abstract the data from the web application using the wcf service. All that works fine but I am also using the built in roleprovider using the SqlRoleManager which does access the aspnetdb database directly. I would like to abstract the roleprovider by creating a custom roleprovider in a wcf service and then accessing it through the wcf service. I have created the custom role provider and it works fine but now I need to place it in a wcf service. So before I jump headlong into trying to get this to work through the WCF service, I created a second class in the web application that accessed the roleprovider class and changed my web config roleprovider parameters to use that class. So my roleprovider class is called, "UcfCstRoleProvider" and my web.config looks like this: <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="UcfCstRoleProvider"> <providers> <add name="UcfCstRoleProvider" type="Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests.UcfCstRoleProvider, Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests" connectionStringName="SqlRoleManagerConnection" applicationName="SMTP" /> </providers> </roleManager> My class starts like this: public class UcfCstRoleProvider : RoleProvider { private readonly WindowsTokenRoleProvider _roleProxy = new WindowsTokenRoleProvider(); public override string ApplicationName { get { return _roleProxy.ApplicationName; } set { _roleProxy.ApplicationName = value; } } As I said, this works fine. So the second class is called BlRoleProvider that has identical properties and parameters as the roleprovide but does not implement RoleProvider. I changed the web.config to point to this class like this: <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="BlRoleProvider"> <providers> <add name="UcfCstRoleProvider" type="Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests.BlRoleProvider, Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests" connectionStringName="SqlRoleManagerConnection" applicationName="SMTP" /> </providers> </roleManager> But I get this error. "Provider must implement the class 'System.Web.Security.RoleProvider'." I hope I have explained well enough to show what I am trying to do. If I can get the roleprovider to work through another class in the same application, I am sure it will work through the WCF service but how do I get past this error? Or maybe I took a wrong turn and there is a better way to do what I want to do??

  I have a local collection of recordId's (integers). I need to retrieve records that have every one of their child records' ids in that local collection. Here is my query: public List<int> OwnerIds { get; private set; } ... filteredPatches = from p in filteredPatches where OwnerIds.All(o => p.PatchesOwners.Select(x => x.OwnerId).Contains(o)) select p; I am getting this error: Local sequence cannot be used in Linq to SQL implementation of query operators except the Contains() operator. I get that .All() isn't supported by Linq to SQL, but is there a way to do what I am trying to do?

• JQuery, ASCX and webmethods not seems to be working

  Hi all, I have a cascading dropdown (3 of them) Type, Categories and Sub Categories. Type loads first and upon selection of Type, Category load and selection of Category, Sub Category loads. Also i have 2 buttons, "Add Category" and "Add Sub Category" Upon clicking on these buttons, i call a JQuery Modal Form to add them. I use Webmethod in code behind to add them to database This works perfectly in ASPX page. Since I need use this in 3-4 pages, i thought of making the above as User control (ASCX). When i try to use this in a webpage, the webmethods in ASCX don't get called. Is my approach correct? what should be done for my scenario lOoking forward for your suggestions.   I have an XML document that has a collection of objects. Each object has a key/value pair of label and value. I am trying to convert this into a DataSet, but when I do ds.ReadXml(xmlFile), then it creates two columns: label and value. For this purpose, I devised a generic ResponseWrapper class.   This is just another "working in dev server, why not working in IIS" type question. So, I created a nice DAL using NHibernate as described here. When creating an ISession, I hook up an event handler to the HttpApplication.EndRequest to take care of cleaning it up. However, I deployed my site to IIS and it says: Event handlers can only be bound to HttpApplication events during IHttpModule initialization. Since when? What for? Why? How can I bypass it?

  I don't yet have a good understanding of how the network is set up at my current client, but here is my issue. The vendor has a normal URL, but it might be a leased line. I have a .NET program that calls an external .asmx service. If I go to IE, Connections, LAN Settings, and uncheck "Automatic detect settings" and uncheck "Use Automatic Configuration Sript", then the .NET program runs and access the web service fine. But then, to access internet again from the browser, I have to re-check the two boxes, and so on throughout the day while we are testing and browsing. I'm hoping to put some code like this in the .NET program to avoid us having to constantly change: if (chkUseProxy.Checked) { myclient.Proxy = new System.Net.WebProxy(""); } I tried null and empty string and so far not able to connect without errors. Is this possible, and if so, what might be the correct parms for the constructor? Or are there other objects or properties that would need to be set? Thanks, Neal Walters

  What is your preferred way to handle hits to files that does not exist on your MVC app. I have couple of web apps runing with MVC and they are constantly getting hits for files folders etc. that does not exist in the app structure. Apps are throwing exception: The controller for path could not be found or it does not implement IController I am trying to find out the best way to handle this. I have 3 global routes on my global.asax file (see below) and at this point I am happy with that simple definition. • iTextSharp everything works but getting strange error when opening pdf document

  Hello everybody, I am using iTextSharp to create my PDF document on the fly. Everything works fine, and i get no errors in the code; however, when i open created PDF it gives me error saying that document will be not displayed properly because it contain errors.
