  I want to make bat (windows) file that will move * files from desktop to x folder and then make shortcuts on the desktop (they must be linked to files in x folder). So: the problem is: There is no way to make shortcut using bat. Only using third-party applications... Or/and using scripts. I need the program/script... that will get their adress, link shortcut to every single file (...\x\s.exe, desktop\s.lnk; ...\l.txt, desktop\l.lnk)...

• Full screen: launchbar + panel overlaps when showing a dialog box

  I'm developing a program for 12.04 that will run on full-screen, so I would like to have full control of what appears on the screen. However, when I show another window (possibly a dialog/message box), the Uunity Panel and Launcher appears on the top and left side of the screen. I've experienced this behavior with other applications (Firefox, Gnubg) as well when in full-screen mode. I tried to play with the settings, now my dialog box is hidden from the the taskbar, set to float on it's parent, which is my full screen window. The problem still exists. Is there a way to prevent these panels from showing up, when the new window isn't shown in taskbar, or it's parent is a full-screen window? Or do I need to completely disable them?

I was reading the release notes for Visual Studio 2013 and .Net 4.5.1 and it mentioned a new/updated Authentication approach. “ASP.NET Identity is the new membership system for ASP.NET applications. ASP.NET Identity makes it easy to integrate user-specific profile data with application data. ASP.NET Identity also allows you to choose the persistence model for user profiles in your application. You can store the data in a SQL Server database or another data store, including NoSQL data stores such as Windows Azure Storage Tables” There’s a great page on the asp.net site that gives an introduction, overview, how to use it, and how to migrate to it. I won’t be doing a new project for awhile at work, but I’ll definitely be looking into this more when I get the time.

  I am planning to upgrade from 8.10 to 10.04. But I am wondering if there will be data loss during the upgrade? For example: Will the application that I have installed on 8.10 still be there after upgrade? Will the settings of the applications such as the bookmarks for Firefox and for Google Chrome be preserved? Will all the personal files under my home directory be preserved? Any other things I need to know for the upgrade? Thanks and regards!

• Repainting a window with a new scene with winapi (beginner question)

  I'm following theForger's win32 API tutorial in order to create a GUI for a project. I've successfully made simple, one window applications, but I can't figure out how to repaint an entire window with new information. As an example: I have five buttons corresponding to five colors on the main application window. When a user clicks a color button, the entire window is repainted such that: 1. all five buttons are removed and a new "back" button is replaced, 2. the background is colored the color that was picked. I'm able to change the background color by trapping the button pressed message in my wndproc, but I can't figure out how to change the entire window with a new "scene" (removing the color buttons and adding a back button). This seems like a trivial task, but I can't find a solution in tutorials. Do I need to declare a new windows class with the back button and then have my button trap create a window of this class?

• What is the relationship between OpenGL, GLX, DRI, and Mesa3D?

  I am starting out doing some low-level 3D programming in Linux. I have a lot of experience using the higher level graphics API OpenInventor. I know it is not strictly necessary to be aware of how all these things fit together but I'm just curious. I know OpenGL is just a standard for graphics applications. Mesa3D seems to be an open source implementation of this standard. So where do GLX and DRI fit? Digging around on Wikipedia and all these websites, I've yet to find an explanation of exactly how it all goes together. Where does hardware acceleration happen? What do proprietary drivers have to do with this? Thanks!

• Screen gets garbled on some web sites

  I have a Gateway notebook with graphics card 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS690M [Radeon X1200 Series] with open source driver Linux version 2.6.32 -28 - generic. No other operating system on the computer. When I am using firefox to browse the web, everything normally works just fine except that when I attempt to access some particular web pages the screen completely messes up going mostly white with various streaks, etc., although I can access other pages of the same site without problems. When I run the cursor over the garbled screen, bits of the image recompose themselves, at least partially, and I can continue to open the applications window, or turn the computer off, or open the terminal, or take screen shots, etc., although all menus are unreadable. Also, when I zoom in on Google Earth the screen completely messes up. At all other times, there are no apparent problems. Any ideas?

In addition to the release documentation, the following new information is provided: A new document, Using the Image Ops API, describes how to read and write raw pixel data to and from JavaFX images. The Handling JavaFX Events document has been updated with more information on touch events. The Working with Touch Events chapter and Touch Events sample provide information about handling individual touch points to provide sophisticated responses to touch actions. The Implementing Best Practices document has been updated to include information about running tasks on background threads. The Troubleshooting section of Deploying JavaFX Applications now includes a section about disabling the automatic proxy configuration in your application code.   The company I work for develops custom factory automation applications for multiple customers. Even though each application is custom, they contain common code which is re-used across projects. One of the customers is now looking for the source code to their application, which has caused a major storm in the company. Management have decided that we can't give them the source to the shared components as they are used by other customers. I've been asked to modify the shared components 'enough' so as they aren't common. So my questions are: 1) Legally, should there be any problem with re-using common components for different customer? 2) If I really need to modify the common components, then how much is 'enough' ? (I know this sucks, but I either do this or hand in my notice). Oh yeah, and my company has no license in place with any of these customers.
