• twitter gem not working in heroku ?

  Hello, I'm working on a ruby app that updates a twitter account using 'twitter' gem. It's working fine locally (as usual :) ). But when I deploy it on heroku it seems the gem is not properly installed or something lile that as I got the following error: NameError: uninitialized constant Twitter::OAuth My code is very simple: oauth = Twitter::OAuth.new(consumer_token, consumer_secret) oauth.authorize_from_access(access_token, access_secret) client = Twitter::Base.new(oauth) client.update("Updating my status from twitter gem. • Convert ASP.NET membership system to secure password storage

  I have a potential client that set up their website and membership system in ASP.NET 3.5. When their developer set up the system, it seems he turned off the security/hashing aspect of password storage and everything is stored in the clear. Is there a process to reinstall/change the secure password storage of ASP.NET membership without changing all of the passwords in the database? The client is worried that they'll lose their customers if they all have to go through a massive password change. I've always installed with security on by default, thus I don't know the effect of a switchover. Is there a way to convert the entire system to a secure password system without major effects on the users?

  I tried what I think are 4 most popular XMPP (aka "Jabber") clients (Spark, Pidgin, Psi, Pandion) to connect to ActiveMQ instance (Apache ActiveMQ ver. 5.3.0) on XMMP connector with an idea to use the "AciveMQ.Agent chatroom" for querying queues/etc and no success at all Some of them fail with 'Unknown error', some don't fail but kind of "hang"... interestingly, some communication does indeed reach the ActiveMQ side, because when I close a client it spits an exception "could not close" or something to that effect... and if I try "register new user" option (present on most clients" the ActiveMQ also spits some most cryptic warning message But I was never able to get to the point when I could see or specify "ActiveMQ.Agent" as chatroom and issue any commands... Before I waste any more time on this curious feature, I would like to hear whether anyone had any success with it? Thank you! PS: BTW, the book "ActiveMQ in Action book" http://www.manning.com/snyder/ shows that it is apparently works and is very easy using some Mac client (AdiumX), but I wanted it on a Windows PC ;)

• How to properly close a process with NppExec?

  I'm not sure what's going on here, but the following code continues running even after I end the process in the NppExec console with Ctrl-C (during the execution of the while loop). I restarted my computer to stop the Ctrl key sends.   I built a TicTacToe game application (I'm using TCP protocol) that consist of server and client (that run two times to represent the 2 opponents). I have a problem and I can't find the solution for it, that is why I'm asking this question. the problem is : when the client try to connect the server on my machine, it never connect because of the IP address(obtained from the support tab from the local area connection in my windows) of my machine isn't correct. I tried to obtain my IP address from websites that told you your IP but I doesn't work. I have a problem to determine my IP address that any machine can connect to me from anywhere. p.s. • What alternatives are there in OS projects for c# similar to Joomla/Mambo/Drupal?

  I'm beginning a project with a client to build a web application and I'm a little stuck on which solution to go with. I've used Joomla for many clients in the past, but this client has specific requests that I KNOW I'm going to have to build myself. The problem I'm facing is that I work full time under the .NET spectrum and while I am a novice developer in PHP, and I've been studying Joomla's plug in architecture for about a month now, I am a lot more comfortable building something in ASP.NET than I am in PHP. My question is, what OS projects are out there that have a similar community following as Joomla/Mambo/Drupal, along with a plug in architecture that is somewhat akin to Joomla as well? I don't really have the time to build out a full blown CMS system in ASP.NET, but if something already exists that can give me X% (25%, 50%, something) of what Joomla has that will at least get me on the right path. Joomla just has too many extensions and too much of a community backing for me to pass it up if there's not something comparable in the ASP.NET realm.

I want to do something like: for sandwich in request.POST['sandwiches']: print "%s on %s with %s is yummy!" % (sandwich['meat'], sandwich['bread'], sandwich['topping']) But I don't seem to have a list of dicts when my data arrives at my client app.

• rsync over ssh is not working anymore, while ssh itself is working fine (Write failed: broken pipe)

  This issue started happening after i changed router. This is the scenario: Windows7 Host Ubuntu 10.04 Guest (VirtualBox) Ubuntu 10.04 remote server What i used to do is run a very basic rsync command: rsync -avz --delete /local/path/ username@host:/path/to/remote/directory This worked perfect until i did change adsl provider, and i changed router aswell: now, this happens: rsync on Ubuntu Guest is not working anymore (to any random server), if using this new router rsync on Ubuntu Guest is WORKING, if i switch back to old router i tried a new virtual box ubuntu install, and the command is WORKING with both the routers So, the not-working-combo is oldUbuntu + newRouter. To get things worst, i can state that (on the not-working ubuntu) i ping the remote host plain ssh connection to the remote host is working fine (i can auth, connect, and do stuff on the remote host) I am looking to create a confirm password field using asp.net MVC2 that works on the client. All my other client validation is done with MicrosoftMvcValidation.js by just adding the Html.EnableClientValidation(); call. Some of my considerations. Should the confirm password be part of the model object? Using that approach i have created server side validation by creating my own model binder. Are there any projects out there that have done this?

  I'm writing a GUI-based app in VB.net that talks to a LambdaMOO server via telnet, sends commands to display the object hierarchy, then parses the output and creates a visual representation of the object hierarchy. So my question is: is there some kind of "telnet client" class for .NET to simplify the sending and receiving of data, or do I have to write my own using the socket API? Does Mono have something like this? Barring an easy solution, does anyone have a good tutorial they can point to for telnet client programming in VB.net?

• Designing a service for consumption on multiple mobile platforms

  I am building and designing a (mostly) read-only interface to some data. I'll be uing ASP.NET MVC to build a psudo-restful API. I'm wondering if anyone can provide some resources for building full-client applications for various mobile platforms, iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, etc. I'm thinking that serving up XML data is going to be the most simple and universal, but parsing XML in objective-C for example doesn't sound like fun to me, but maybe there are some good libaries out there to help ease this task? In other words, what formt will be the quickest to implement on the client side? Are there any JSON parsrs for iPhone or Android? I know there are .NET JSON parsers, but not sure about other platforms -- is ther another format that might better? Or should I stick with pure XML and deal with it on each platform differently?

  Hi, I have an asp.net page with a WebMethod on it to pass JSON back to my javascript. Bellow is the web method: [WebMethod] public static string getData(Dictionary<string, string> d) { string response = "{ \"firstname\": \"John\", \"lastname\": \"Smith\" }"; return response; } When this is returned to the client it is formatted as follows: { \"d\": \"{ \"firstname\": \"John\", \"lastname\": \"Smith\" }\" } The problem is the double quotes wrapping everything under 'd'. Is there something I've missed in the web method or some other means of returning the data without the quotes? I don't really want to be stripping it out on the client everytime. Also I've seen other articles where this doesn't happen. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

  I'm developing an ASP.NET MVC application in which I want to encrypt a short string on the server, using C#, and send it to the client-side. Then on the client-side it will be decrypted through Javascript code. Any thoughts on how to implement this? Do you know of a simple encryption algorithm (doesn't have to be bullet-proof secure) that can be easily translated from C# to Javascript or vice-versa? NOTE: I could do this entirely in C# and do the decryption through Ajax, but I'd prefer not to do it this way, as I want to reduce website traffic as much as possible.

  hi, I am using a WebBrowser to render some HTML text. The WebBrowser is located within a rich client. I can detect the window's orientation when the rich client is launched. How do I make the text rendered within the WebBrowser to be dispayed in RTL order. I have tried body.setDir("rtl"), but it only aligned all the text in the WebBrowser to the right. It does not really reverse the content. For example, I have a photo that is displayed on the left and then a segment of text displayed on the right. After calling body.setDir("rtl"), it only aligned everything to the right in the WebBrowser, but it did not move the photo to the right, and it did not move the text to the left. Thanks a lot!

They look like a text field with the "Select a topic..." text. When you select the text it disappears and if you type a character and then delete it the options are shown (i.e. pull down is invoked) however, there is still no pull down arrow. Does anyone know what the issue might be? Or how I can investigate further? Is it possible to see the actual HTML the browser is getting, when I View Page Source I only get the landing page HTML. As an additional I also have a import com.google.gwt.user.client.ui.Grid that does not render correctly. It is in table format but has no grid lines or header bar etc. Cheers, James

• PayPal $0 Dollar Transaction?

  Hi. I have a client who wants a paypal shopping cart. All of the services have "Buy Now" buttons, all with different prices. However, there is one service, which is a FREE 0 dollar service. The client wants the "Buy Now" button to remain there, to be consistent with the rest of the site. Does anyone know how I can do a $0 dollar transaction with paypal? I can't find any insight on this being possible. Thanks.
