• Git sh.exe process forking issue on windows XP, slow?

  Git is essential to my workflow. I run MSYS Git on Windows XP on my quad core machine with 3GB of RAM, and normally it is responsive and zippy. Suddenly an issue has cropped up whereby it takes 30 seconds to run any command from the Git Bash command prompt, including ls or cd. Interestingly, from the bash prompt it looks likes ls runs fairly quickly, I can then see the output from ls, but it then takes ~30 seconds for the prompt to return. If I switch to the windows command prompt (by running cmd from the start menu) git related commands also take forever, even just to run. For example git status can take close to a minute before anything happens. Sometimes the processes simply don't finish. Note that I have "MSYS Git" installed as well as regular "MSYS" for things like MinGW and make. I believe the problem is related to sh.exe located in C:\Program Files\Git\bin. When I run ls from the bash prompt, or when I invoke git from the windows prompt, task manager shows up to four instances of sh.exe processes that come and go. Here I am waiting for ls to return and you can see the task manager has git.exe running and four instances of sh.exe: If I ctrl-c in the middle of an ls I sometimes get errors that include: sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable 0 [main] sh.exe" 1624 proc_subproc: Couldn't duplicate my handle<0x6FC> fo r pid 6052, Win32 error 5 sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable Or for git status: $ git status sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable Can I fix this so that git runs quickly again, and if so how? Things I have tried: Reboot Upgrade MSYS Git to most recent version & Reboot Upgrade MSYS to most recent version & Reboot Uninstall MSYS & uninstall and reinstall MSYS Git alone & Reboot I'd very much like to not wipe my box and reinstall Windows, but I will if I can't get this fixed. I can no longer code if it takes me 30 s to run git status or cd.

  Hi, I have a program that is compressing a string in an unknown way. I know a few inputs and the output produced, but I am not sure what is being used to compress the string. Here are my examples. (just 38 x a, no spaces or anything else) In: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" Out: "026900211AA63000026900"   (just 32 x a) In: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" Out: "0209001c1aa7a000020900" (31 x a, then 1 b) In: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaab" Out: "0209000177c553c000020900" (31 x b, then 1 a) In: "bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbba" Out: "0209001e7754f38000020900" In: "Hey wot u doing 2day u wanna do something" Out: "02990011C7C62E78CE6B8E3ACD83E81B37C5C5A6B9D1E1B06963DB5E71155C1000029900" (same as previous string, but with a space at the end) In: "Hey wot u doing 2day u wanna do something " Out: "02A90012C7718B9E339AE2EB360FA02CDF17177A674786DF4B1EDAF388AAE08000000002A90000" The only definite thing I can see so far is digit 2 and 3 are the amount of characters (hex value), ie first one is 26 = 38 Also the first 6 digits are repeated at the end Any help / advice would be great, thanks!

  I have a document with dynamic image and dynamic text and would like the text around the image. The image is right aligned on the landscape page. • Maven:install jar file during build process

  I have got a requirement as follows. I need to run ant build file during maven build process. I need to invoke the build.xml from my pom.xml file. I have done that using maven-antrun-plugin. Now I need to install the ant build generated jar file automatically into my local repository before maven compiles my project source. I tried using build-helper-maven-plugin but it did not help. Either I am doing something wrong, or i am not doing right. Please help. Update Thank you. ant maven tasks worked for me as well. • upgrading to worpdress 3.5 erased all posts and pages, wiped database

  So I have upgraded to wordpress 3.5 and that seemed to have erased all posts and custom post types, media images, sliders etc' I have made a backup using both pressbackup and backupbuddy but when I try to restore the database (or everything). when it is done, if I look at the front end, everything is back and looks great but then when I go to the back end it says the database needs to be upgraded and doesn't let me bypass that. if i click ok it prompts the following message and after that everything is wiped again: WordPress database error: [Table 'db446353270.wp_categories' doesn't exist] SELECT * FROM wp_categories ORDER BY cat_ID WordPress database error: [Table 'db446353270.wp_post2cat' doesn't exist] SELECT post_id, category_id FROM wp_post2cat GROUP BY post_id, category_id WordPress database error: [Table 'db446353270.wp_linkcategories' doesn't exist] SELECT cat_id, cat_name FROM wp_linkcategories WordPress database error: [Unknown column 'link_category' in 'field list'] SELECT link_id, link_category FROM wp_links please advise.   Hi, This question occured to me while programming a Android application, but it seems to be a general programming question more. The situation is, I am extending (subclass-ing) an class from a library, and overriding a method. how do I know if I should invoke the method of super-class? and when? (in the beginning of the overridden method or in the end?) For example, I am overriding the method "public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu)" from class "Activity" in Android platform. And I saw someone write "return super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu)" in the end of the method, in an example. But how do I know it should be done this way? and it is correct or not? what's the difference if I begin my method with "super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu)"? BR, Henry

• Concatenating text in an ASP.NET localized label

  Trying to localize text in ASP.NET labels... want to add a ':' after the localized text. I could just add the ':' to the localized text in the resource file, but that seems silly... there should be an easy way to do this. <asp:Label id="RoleTypeLabel" runat="server" Text='<%$ Resources: GS3, RoleTypeLabel %>:' AssociatedControlID="RoleTypeDropDown"></asp:Label> (note the ':' at the end of Text='...') Of course, this doesn't work... and neither does anything I can think of to concatenate a ':' onto the end of the localized text. Anyone know how to do it? TIA, James

On a successful build, I use a <buildpublisher to copy the site to a deployment folder. My problem is that the buildpublisher is copying everything to the destination folder, including every .svn folder and its contents. What is the easiest way to strip out the .svn folders before copying to the deployment folder?

• TcpListener.Start() does not open the port

  Hello, I have a class that inherits from the TcpListener, this class Shadows the Start method just to call the base Start() and the base BeginAcceptTcpClient(). From time to time the method is called but the port is not opened (netstat does not show the port open). This is the command I type in CMD: schtasks /create /sc minute /mo 1 /tn test /tr calc.exe /st 19:17:00 /sd 12/14/2009 I'm trying to tell the computer to run calculator every minute starting at 7:09 PM. Although I get a success message after I type this in and hit enter, nothing happens at 7:09. What gives? Thanks in advance.

  I tracked down a memory leak with instruments. I always end up with the information that the responsible library is Foundation. When I track that down in my code, I end up here, but there's nothing wrong with my memory management: - (void)setupTimer { // stop timer if still there [self stopAnimationTimer]; NSTimer *timer = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0.2 target:self selector:@selector(step:) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; self.animationTimer = timer; // retain property, -release in -dealloc method } the property animationTimer is retaining the timer. In -dealloc I -release it. Now that looks like a framework bug? I checked with iPhone OS 3.0 and 3.1, both have that problem every time I use NSTimer like this. Any idea what else could be the problem? (my memory leak scan interval was 0.1 seconds. but same thing with 5 seconds)

• ASP.net getting NT user name returns administrator?

  This doesnt seem to be an issue with windows XP. But I have an end user (my boss!!!) using windows 7 64 bit... In one of our apps we are grabbing the end user user name via: HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToString.Substring (HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToString.IndexOf("\") + 1).ToLower For me it is returning the correct user name for instance "jhermiz". When my boss tries getting into the app, it thinks he is Administrator??? Does anyone know of any alternative or why this might be happening? The reason this is an issue is because I use that user name to pull other information... This is visual studio 2003.

• Ruby on Rails: strange voting increment behavior

  So I have an up and a downvote button that inserts a vote with a value of 1 or -1 into the database. This works correctly. Then, I display the total vote count for that element by summing up its votes' values. However, this isn't working correctly, because the vote sum display is acting really strange: The first vote on a video doesn't seem to increment it at all. Then the second vote does. If I go from an upvote to a downvote, it increments up once, and then the next downvote is down. This is difficult to explain, but maybe you can figure out what is wrong with my code. I have this function in my Video model (the element that is voted on, it has_many video_votes): def vote_sum read_attribute(:vote_sum) || video_votes.sum(:value) end I also have this in my VideoVote model: after_create :update_vote_sum private def update_vote_sum video.update_attributes(:vote_sum => video.vote_sum + value) end What am I doing wrong?

• How to integrate Purify into Hudson CI?

  Hello everybody! I have a Hudson CI system set up and for the moment it is used for building a project and running some unit tests. My next step is to integrate the memory leak detector Purify into the build cycle. Now I want to start the unit tests also inside purify and for this I have created a new batch task which runs following command: purify.exe /SaveTextData MyExecutable.exe --test TestLibrary.dll --output xml As I read in the Purify documentation the /SaveTextData option is used in order to run purify not in GUI mode. If I run this command on my local workstation in the command line it works perfectly. But in case it is started by Hudson, nothing happens. Unfortunetly there are no logs of purify... Has someone ever tried to start purify either by Hudson or any other CI system? Thanks in advance. On the master I have configured a task which should start the unit tests within purify on the slave. I am running the slave via JNLP.
